well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. we do have new information coming in right now about a dramatic rescue in the waters off richmond. ktvu's kraig debro is with two of the victims right now. what can you tell us? what did they tell you? >> reporter: well, four fishermen went out early this morning to fish for alba door -- to fish for albacore. right now, this boat is in the water. we can't see from here but thanks to everybody at channel 2 at the desk, it looks like we can see the boat is going down facility water. i'm going to talk to thomas deacon. he's completely soaked. he's been in the water.

you must be cold. what do you remember? >> we went out, hit a wall, pulled one out. there was cpr. don't know about one guy. >> reporter: what did it sound like when you hit the rock wall? >> basically, a car accident. >> reporter: it must have been very dark at that time. >> you are right about that. >> reporter: what about the people in the boat with you at the time? >> one guy, i abbed ahold of him. i was trying to pull him in the boat. i seen another man go by. i tried to go by and grab him. i had too many clothes on. i went back, put my rain gear on, took my clothes off. got him to the edge of the boat. he was unresponsive. i gave him cpr. one of them was your dad. >> yes. >> reporter: your dad didn't

want to talk to us but i want to show a picture. he's over there warming up. very cold. both men soaked by the bay area waters very early this morning. now, you guys were fishing for albacore. >> we weren't fishing yet. the plan was to go out. >> reporter: and your dad said he was fishing for decades and that's never happened to him. >> that's true. >> reporter: thomas deacon, one of the surviverses from the -- survivors from the fishing boat. one other man was taken by gurney to a local hospital. it's unknown which one but, of course, we'll follow this and find out about the other two men on the boat. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. 7:03. well, we're also following reports out of iran that uc berkeley graduate sarah shourd has been released from prison after 17 months of captivity. alison burns is in our

washington, d.c. bureau now with new information from her attorney. good morning, alison. >> reporter: good morning, tori. this is new this hour. iranian state tv is reporting that the $500,000 bail has been paid to release sarah shourd and she's been released to the swiss embassy. now, her release comes after a roller coaster weekend of negotiations. iran says they released her for heath reasons. her mother had had said she was not getting treatment for serious medical problems, reportedly including a lump in her breast and precancerous cervical cells. her family and friends issued a statement on facebook saying they are enormously grateful for her release but are praying for the release of josh fattal and shane bauer. all three were arrested while hiking in iraq and allegedly crossing into iran. iranian officials have form mally accused them of being

spies and a prosecutor in the case is voted as -- quoted as saying the other two men will be in jail for two months. barbara boxer issued a statement saying "our hopes and prayers have been answered." she's holding a news conference here in washington at this hour and i will have that for you in my next update. alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, allison. 7:05. we're still following new developments in last week's deadly explosion and fire in san bruno. federal investigators are taking a close look at a well. it's on a curved section of the pipe that blew up last thursday night. in just a couple of hours, the coroner will update the fatality figure from this. the death toll right now stands at four. three people are still missing. also, pg&e will spend up to $100 million to help the fire victims but where will that

money come from? ktvu's jade hernandez is out in san bruno now with the details of this controversial proposal. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we're live in front of the neighborhood affected by the explosion last week. right now, pg&e says the san bruno fire costs are covered but what happens if those costs exceed what's covered by insurance? today, puc will are weigh weren't customers will have to pay for costs incurred which exceed the current coverage? californians can request a deduction. a pg&e spokesperson told me by phone an hour ago, this new proposal, which was introduced last year, would only be a formal vote on how the utility

already operates. here's the concern in the bay area. this new proposal called the wildfire expansion defines an uncontrolled fire larger than an acre and destroys houses and buildings. an explosion would fit under that definition. at this point, it's not clear if this would trigger a rate increase to help pay for last week's gas explosion but the meeting is today. it's the start of a lengthy process which would not be be-- decided until next spring or summer. the meet something scheduled for 1:0 this afternoon in -- 1:30 afternoon in san francisco. reporting live in san bruno, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> okay, jade. make sure you stay right here with us for ktvu news for the -- at ktvu news for the latest developments. you can get updates at ktvu.com

any time. seven minutes after 7:00. we have new information about threats after muni sickout. this morning an employee told us there have been no sick calls and so far there are no reported delays. there was an anonymous flier going around telling operators to call in sick starting today. according to the flier, the sickout was in response to recent changes, including new requirements for new schedules, a new fee for parking and changes to the rules for calling in sick. but again, so far, there are no reports of a sickout on muni. time now, 7:08. that leads us right to sal who is watching the toll plaza right now. >> that's right. it's the peak of the morning commute and traffic is going to be busy. here we are, it's about a 12 to 15-minute delay. if you are getting into san francisco there's been some slow traffic on the bridge. not too many spots. just a couple of spots on the span. taking a look at 880 north and southbound that commute looks pretty good driving up to the

good morning. we have low clouds. it will be sunny. highs, 70s, low 80s. by the coast, a lot of 60s. the gasline pipe disaster in san bruno is prompting a call for action in washington, d.c. california's two u.s. senators are urging the federal government to conduct thorough

inspections on all interstate gas lines. pg&e has already been ordered to inspect gas lines in the entire system in northern california. but barbara boxer and diane dianne feinstein say that order does not go far enough. they are demanding inspections of the 1500 miles of interstate gas pipelines regulated by the federal government. two new pieces of dramatic video clearly capture the horror of last week's huge explosion. walter mcaffrie was just getting home when he heard the loud blast. he grabbed his iphone and began shooting this video from his home. you can see how close the flames came to his house. he says he only had had a few frantic minutes to find his dog and get out. had his home suffered minor damage. the second video is from a gas station surveillance camera and glenview and san bruno, just a few blocks away. you can see names on the left of the screen.

the explosion produced different reaction. some people ran for cover but others immediately headed towards the blast, perhaps worried about family members, friends or pets. secretary of state, hillary clinton, is in egypt today. she's meeting with israeli and palestinian leaders. she sat down with benjamin netanyahu and palestinian president, mahmoud abbas. the first big issue they will deal with is a ban that will expire soon on new construction for israeli settlers in the west bank. there's also new information about the hunt for osama bin laden after the september 11th attacks. a former european intelligence official told cnn that an informant provided a steady stream of information about the al qaeda leader in 2003 and 2004. it indicated that bin laden made several trips into afghanistan during that time period despite the fact that tens of thousands of american troops were there.

that informant says bin laden is probably hiding in the tribal areas of pakistan but has also been able to travel freely across afghanistan despite the fact american troops are there. 7:16. with the november election only seven weeks away, some political analysts are speculating about the future of house speaker, nancy pelosi, if democrats were to lose control of the house of representatives. now, current polls show it's possible republicans could win enough seats in november to retake control of the house. publicly, pelosi says the democrats are not even talking about that possibility. >> i don't have a conversation based on democrats not winning the house. >> if republicans take control of the house in november, pelosi would no longer be speaker. it remains to be seen if she would remain in power as minority leader. jerry brown is now apologizing for a comment about

former president, bill clinton. republican was criticizing a campaign ad that meg whitman is currently airing. the ad features footage of clinton back in 1992, criticizing brown who the two were vying for the nomination. in attacking the ad, brown made a reference to whit -- clinton's sex scandal and questioned whether he always told the truth. >> bill clinton was an excellent president. it was certainly wrong of me to make a comment about something that happened many, many years. the brown campaign has stopped on -- has called on the whitman ad to stop running that ad. but the whitman camp has reduce

reduced. this morning's procedural vote for the $30 million allocated for small businesses. that fund would be available to banks with less than $10 billion in assets. those banks could then use that money to increase their lending to small businesses. in richmond this morning, city leaders and honda will celebrate the auto company's return to the port of richmond. the honda port of entry to broke is -- entry project is expected to pump an $85 million into the local economy the next five years. the project includes a new 85- railcar facility capacity, rail improvements and berth upgrades. this morning's celebration is set to begin at 11:00. and koda automotive is having discussions about putting a

facility nearby. their cars are expected to go 90 to 120 miles on a single charge. final pricing has not been released but is expected to fall between $35,000 and $45,000. tonight, the san jose city council will take up a high- speed rail debate on location of tracks above or below ground. now, some city staff members are recommending a quick deal with the high-speed rail authority for a cheaper above- ground track. however, some city officials, including mayor chuck reed, want more study on this 2.5 billion study option. scott nize is supporting more study of both ideas saying it's premature to commit to a noisier 60-foot structure that will affect the skyline for generations. how a discovery at a park

convenience stores in one night at gunpoint. they released this surveillance photo. investigators say the suspect entered a 7-11 store shortly after:00 a.m. on september 4th and demanded cash. police say he onto robbed two other -- he robbed two other stores. one in hayward, one in milpitas. no one was hurt. a $120,000 reward is being offered. police have made arrests to an armed robbery at six flags. the suspects worked at six flags and were taken into custody sunday night after police pulled them over for a traffic violation. police say the driver was armed and was a park employee. the other suspect worked for a park vendor. 7:24. let's go back to sal. you told us about a crash in antioch. what's the latist with this --

a frightening situation in the marina. a group of fishermen had to be rescued after a boat accident. kraig debro is there with an update on the injuries. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, tori. three people say they are lucky to be arrive after this morning's accident on the fishing boat. it started in richmond at the marina behind me. that truck on the right, that's

the truck that they drove down here. the boat was on the back of that truck. the condition of the fourth person on the boat is unknown but does not look good. the people in the boat say he was unresponsive in the water and they performed cpr out here once they got him back to the marina. witnesses say the unresponsive man at the time the coast guard got him to shore -- witnesses say the man was unresponsive at the time the coast guard got him to shore. they were looking for albacore. one of the men described the condition as extremely loud and then all four men were thrown to the icy waters. one was able to make a mayday call. none of the people on board say they were wearing life jackets. >> he was swimming towards us saying, help me. got him to the edge of the

boat, was holding onto him. he was responsive for the most part. when he was unresponsive, i pulled him toward me. >> definitely had a life jacket on all at times. >> reporter: but not this time? >> no. but that will on the change. >> reporter: that was ralph deacon, he said he remembers being out here and watching them build the richmond bridge. there were four people out here, ralph deacon, the owner of the boat, we don't want to give his name because we don't know his condition and may not have made it. they were doing cpr at the time they finally took him away. the four men went out to fish for albacore. fortunately, they were able to call the coast guard in order for them to be rescued off the boat. we'll continue to try to make some calls to find out the condition of the fourth person.

kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. 7:32. well, we're continuing to follow developments this morning in the release of uc graduate sarah shourd from a prison in iran. shourd's lawyer says his client is in good health and will fry to jordan. shourd was released on $500,000. the two other men jailed with sarah shourd remain in the iranian prison. a new clue has emerged in the investigation in the deadly explosion in san bruno. claudine wong is there with the latest on this. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we're on glenview drive. i want to give you a perspective of where we are. as we get closer to the devastation, it really is striking. if we go down, you can see the pipe in question that's in this huge crater that's been capped

off. that's where a lot of the evidence has been found. we want to give you a perspective of what is around that or what isn't around that anymore. you can see what is left of a home that's left, all that's left is this chimney standing there and really just remnants of the home that once sat there. if we go up further, you can see how hot it burned the trees up there. not much left of them and beyond that, you can see another home or really what was left of another home. just two of the homes that were taken by this explosion and fire. now, certainly, the investigation is focused around that area. the ntsb says it's finished with its work now and that's because they believe the 30- inch pipe they took from the crater will hold crucial answers. those answers need to be found in a lab in washington, d.c. so the pieces were loaded on the truck to be taken to be lab.

the three pieces include the ends of the explosion site. investigators are looking for any kind of corrosion, physical damage or fatigue. they are looking very closely at welds on the pipe. the break happened where the pipe was curved. so there were several smaller pieces of pipe at the point the pipe changed direction. >> one of those wells was the clean end break of the pipe where the -- the -- you could see a very distinct clean break at the end of the weld and and the other end of the pipe was torn and shredded and much less clean. >> reporter: information about the victims of this tragedy also continues to come in. we expect more information from the coroner's office in the next hour about the death toll from this tragedy. the death toll still stands at four, but there are still three people missing. of the four confirmed dead, we know there was an elderly woman, a mother and her son --

and her daughter and her grandfather came to the school. >> i think this is a place of comfort for them and a place where they were -- they knew their children were loved. >> reporter: okay. you're taking a live look at one of the homes, really just three homes up from where this explosion happened. you can see the windows are burnt out, the house roof is also burnt out. but you know, a lot of the damage out here was depending on which way the wind was blowing. it wasn't blowing up the street. the people on the street have talked about the intense heat across the street.

sheriff's office says on saturday night, 45-year-old virginia merney was with her husband and friends on a patio boat docked behind her home. her husband said he went to bed leaving her alone on the boat. he said when he woke up sunday morning, he found his wife in the water. the sheriff's office says it appears they were drinking but they don't know if that contributed to the death yet. mixed news for oakland school districts, it's the most improved largest district in california. and a routine police activity ends up breaking up a large i.d. theft ring in the north bay.

a recession. buffett told a crowd in montana, we will not have a double-dipped recession at all. the latest figures show the unemployment rate among working- aged veterans has reached as high as 21%. but there's help on the way in the bay area. a local veteran service agency is hosting its third annual veteran career fair. the fair is free and open to any veteran who would like to learn more about training programs and job opportunities here. the fair is today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at san francisco's war memorial building. that's on van ness avenue. later today, president obama goes to philadelphia. he will deliver his second annual back-to-school message to students. the president will tell the students nothing is impossible as long as they dream big, work

hard, and focus on learning. schools are not required to air the president's speech. you may remember before last year's address, some conservatives accused the president of trying to force his political agenda on school kids but there's been no similar outcry this year. an east bay school district is the state's most improved large urban district. newly-released numbers show oakland public schools made the biggest gains in alameda county on the academic performance test, jumping to 719 points. the statewide target, 800. over all, 46% of the schools in california meet or exceed those goals. thirteen oakland schools have been put on federal probation because they didn't meet the testing goals two years running. authorities say a castro valley man is at the center of a large scale identity theft

scheme that cost the state $200,000. police arrested brad william in july. investigators say he stole the identities of victims who all used the same mobile blood testing company. investigators say he used the victims' identities to fraudulently apply for unemployment and health support checks. investigators have broken up an identity theft ring in the north bay. they seized counterfeit cash and they busted the ring three weeks ago during a parolee check at a motel. investigators say four suspects were caught with equipment used to rip off hundreds of unsuspected people. >> we have printers. multiple laptop computers, a lamb min eighter -- lamb min

eighter also recovered, stolen mailboxes from san rafael and novato. 7:48. a new report is out from the fbi that shows for the third year in a row violent crime is on the decline. the fbi says violent crimes are up 5.3% nationwide last year. knew, there were 17 -- now, there were 7.3% fewer murders and 8 an -- and an 8% drop in robberies. the experts say the downward trend could turn around because budget cuts have left many cities with smaller police forces. there are reports that nba owners will vote on the sale of the golden state warriors by the end of october. the sports business journal says this would finalize the $4.3 million deal. the warriors sale is being led

she says contractors working for chevron were doing work in the area but it wasn't clear whether that work had anything to do with the fish kill. in colorado, a long-time volunteer firefighter is now being investigated. the blaze in colorado has destroyed 169 homes and burned more than 6,000 acres. fire officials believe a fire set in the home fire pit there was never fully extinguished and that the flames were likely ripped up by high winds. the firefighter in question was the first to report the blaze. he lost his own home in the fire. 7:54. new reports that apple is working on a next-generation ipad that would be available by christmas. the new device would have a front-faces camera that supports face time video conferencing. it would come with more memory and a higher resolution

involved in an early-morning boat accident may not survive. now, the boat flipped over in the waters off richmond. ktvu's kraig debro is out there right now. in fact, he's been talking with two of the survivors. he has the very latest. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, dave. i've got a call in to kaiser richmond to see if i can locate the one person taken away from here in an ambulance and not responsive at a time. i hope to have an update by the end of the report. three people are alive. a fourth person is fighting for survival after this horrible accident here off the richmond marina. >> like a car accident sound. and water started coming over the side. >> it was pretty scary. it still is. >> reporter: boat the men set off in was just about to go under an hour ago. these pictures are from news honor 2 -- newschopper2. the sun had not yet risen when the men set out for the fishing

trip. one of the survivors said the boat's owner was behind the wheel with years of experience. still, the boat hit a rock in the bay. in terms of what the survivors said, they said as soon as the boat hit the rock, there was a loud sound. all four men were thrown in the water. one of the men appeared to have been knocked unconscious during the accident, was floating away. one of the two men that was on board, he pulled his father up to the boat. he got his father and tried to women for the second person swimming away. he couldn't. he got back on the boat, took off some of his clothing, went back out, got that men. three men were rescued by the coast guard, as they were able to make a mayday call while in the water. there was a fourth american in the water at the time. that person was unresponsive. thomas dacon said he was giving

that person cpr. at one point he was responsive. at another point he wasn't. and he was given cpr here at the marina harbor. certainly, three of the men lucky to be arrive after this boating accident. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. two minutes after 8:00. we are continuing to follow developments this moment out of iran where uc graduate sarah shourd has now been released from prison. alison burns is live in our washington, d.c. bureau with reaction from shourd's family and friends. good morning,ally son -- good morning alison. >> reporter: that's right. family and friends have posted a message on facebook saying they are profoundly grateful for sarah shourd's release but they need continued support for the release of the other two americans detained in iran.

now, iranian state tv reports that a $500,000 bail has been paid and that shourd has been released to the swiss embassy. it's still unclear when the uc berkeley grad will return to the united states. she was let go for medical treatments. her mother said she needs treatment for precancerous cervical cells and a lump in her breast. >> translator: because of the situation that she was in, we decided to kind of give some assistance. >> reporter: now, the same prosecutor says it will be at least two more months before the other two americans, josh fattal and bauer, could possibly be released. research is accusing -- iran is accusing all three of them for crossing the border when they

were hiking. alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alison. 8:04. we're following new developments in last with week's deadly explosion and fire in san bruno. federal investigators are taking a close look now at a weld on a curved section of the pipe that blew up last thursday thursday night. last, the coroner will update the fatality numbers. the current death toll is at four. three people are list as missing. pg&e will spend up to $100 million to help the fire victims. where will the money come from. jade hernandez is in san bruno with the details of what pg&e is proposing. >> reporter: good morning. i want to show you the damage. it gets increasingly worse. you go from house to house and down to the burnt cars still on the street this morning. pg&e says the san juan know fire -- san bruno fire costs

are covered. today puc will weigh whether homeowners should pay more after insurance. utilities commission can veto the request. that's why a pg&e spokesperson told me by phone a few hours ago this proposal, which was introduced last year, would only be a formal vote on how the utility already operates. the proposal was created in response to the 2002 fires in california which caused $1 billion in damage. here's the concern for those in the bay area. this new proposal defines a wildfire as any uncontrolled fire larger than an acre which

destroyed houses and building. opponents say the fire and explosion would fit within the wildfire definition. at this point, it's not clear if this plane would trigger rate increase to help pay for last week's pipeline explosion. the meeting today is the start of a lengthy process which won't be decided by commissioners until next spring or summer. that meeting is expected to be held by 1:30 in san francisco. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> okay. thank you. 8:07. well, the san bruno gas pipeline disaster is now triggering a call for action in washington, d.c. california's two u.s. senators want the federal government to conduct thorough informations on all interstate gas lines. pg&e has already been ordered to inspect gas lines on its entire system in northern california. but barbara boxer and dianne

humane remains found in a remote -- human remains found in a park in yosemite may belong to a man who went missing seven years ago. the man disappeared seven years ago while hiking alone. the skeletal remains were found in the east area of the world mountain. investigators are awaiting for dna to confirm the identity. caltrain is growing a -- joying a growing number of critics. they want the high-speed rail authority to rethink its plan for the peninsula. caltrain officials want the authority to consider alternatives to aerial structures that a lot of communities are opposing and to proceed with a phased-in approach to building systems of the options can be considered as the project moves along. also tonight, the san jose city council will take up

another high speed rail debate. it one involves downtown track location. city staff members are recommending a quick deal with the rail authority for a cheaper, above-ground track. how far, city officials including mayor chuck reed want more study on this $2.5 billion tunnel option. the executive director scott nize, says it's premature to commit to a noisier 60-foot high structure that will affect the skyline for generations. it is 8:25. we want to check in with sal who has just found out about a serious crash in martinez. sal? >> that's right. it's eastbound highway 4 at morello avenue. we have a crash there. the chp is with us. it's a motorcycle crash. it looks like they've issued a sig-alert. this will be a major delay for eastbound highway 4. westbound 4 is still getting through from what we here but there will be a little bit of a backup.

far this morning. reporting live in richmond, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. 8:32. federal investigators are now taking a close look at a curved section of the pipe that exploded sparking a deadly and districtive inferno. claudine wong is in the devastated neighborhood with an update on the devastated information. >> reporter: go morning. just a briefing out here for all of the police officers and law enforcement monitoring this area. you can see some of the police officers now moving their way in as they do a shift change in the area that's still blocked off for access to the public. we're just about half a block from where this cre crater was created by this huge explosion last thursday as we're panning down, you can actually see the end of the capped off pipe. that's a 30-inch gas pipeline that was the cause of all of this. around there you can see the devastation as we're getting closer. you can see -- right there at the top of your screen, that's

just the kimmy. that's all that's left of the home that's right next to the right of the explosion. then we pan up a little bit, you can see the devastated hillside and what was left of another home that was there. the crater has really been the focus of the investigation out here. but the ntsb said it's finished with its work there. they are focused on what they took out of the crater. the 30-inch pipe that they believe holds crucial information. it does need to be examined in the lab in washington, d.c. three pieces of that pipe were loaded on to a truck and taken to the lab yesterday. the three sections include a 20- foot piece and a ten-foot piece. they were taken from the ends of the explosion sites the wells on the pipe are really being focused on. the break happened where the pipe curved so there were several smaller pieces of pipe welded on where the pipe changed direction. >> one of those welds was the

clean break end of the pipe where -- where the -- you could see a very distinct clean break of the pipe at the weld and we'll be exploring whether that was a weld defect. the other end of the pipe was torn, shredded, and much less clean. >> reporter: the information about the victims of the tragedy still come in. the coroner's office just said they expect more information to be released in the next hour. the death toll does stand at foul but there are still -- but there are still four people missing. of the dead, jessica morales, jacqueline grieg and janessagrieg and this woman,

elizabeth torrez. looking back live at the end of glenview drive, a few feet from where the explosion happened, you take a look at what's left of that, this is only one small glimpse of the dozens and dozens of homes that were destroyed by this explosion and this fire. really on this street that we're standing on, there was a lot of discussion from people who lived here about the intense heat they could feel coming up the street. but really, you look at it, most of the fire damage is to the right of this area where the wind was actually blowing that thursday night when all of this happened. you see a police cars just going through the scene here. they've beening shifts and they've been out here all night. a lot of police agencies working together in cooperation to make sure this site is secure. when it will be back open, we're still not sure. we now know the ntsb has moved from this location and are focuseded on is documents, work

orders, maintenance words and they are also looking at the control rooms. they are also still asking anyone who may have smelled any gas that may give some kind of clue to some kind of natural gas leak to give them a call. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, claudine. there's still no official word on the fate of a missing grandmother, her son and gan son -- grandson. they are the bullis family the they are the only people listed as missing in the gasline explosion. their home is on claremont drive. police are searching 2004 three men who robbed a couple at gunpoint on the delta deanza trail. this happened at around 4:00 last thursday. they took the women's purse and women's wallet.

>> one reportedly had shoulder- length dread lock hair. the other had closely cropped hair. the third one wore a baseball bat. investigators say they all carried black semi-automatic pistolsle if you have any information, contact oakland police. police are searching for a man who robbed three convenience stores in one night at gunpoint. take a look at this surveillance video released this -- this photo released by police. investigators say the suspect went into a 7/11 store on 23rd avenue shortly after:00 a.m. on september the 4th and demanded cash. police say he robbed two other 7/11 stores, one in hayward, the other in milpitas. no one was hurt during the robberies. there is a $2500 reward offered in this case. 8:38. a new report from the fbi shows violent crime is on the

decline. for the third year if a row. the fbi says violent crime decreased 5.3% nationwide in 2009. there was 7.3% fewer murders. an 8% drop in the number of robberies and 4.2% fewer aggravated assaults. analysts say the downward trend could turn around because budget cuts have left many cities with smaller police forces. 8:39. sal, that crash in martinez really sounds bad. >> yeah, it's a motorcycle crash. we've had a few of them unfortunately. we've had a bun everyone of motorcycle crashes. not all of them serious but this one sure is. eastbound highway 4 at morello. the accident has caused the chp to issue a sig-alert. the two left lanes will be closed for an undetermined period of time as that he investigate this crash. it's a motorcycle down and it was reported about 450 minutes to an hour ago. major injuries and there's no estimated time for reopening as
