and pam. sal, thank you. at 6:00 a major clean up project in the san bruno disaster zone begins this morning. this effects the entire bay area. ktvu is out there live with the details. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. county health officials do want to get this disaster cleaned up as soon as possible. here's why. once the rains come, that could stir up toxic that could run off into the bay. storm drain is covered with sandbags to prevent that from happening. we're here off of claremont drive. that's the street hardest hit by the gas line explosion. what crews will be doing later this morning is clearing away the burnt out vehicles that line the streets. now according to the san mateo county health department they're going to bring in heavy equipment to remove the debris. there will also be workers taking away stuff by hand. neighbors say they are anxious for the clean up to start. they have been staring at

charred cars and what remains of at least 50 homes since september 9th when a pg&e gas line pipeline explosion ripped through this area leaving seven people dead. now tomorrow crews will start tackling the destroyed homes and clean that up. but for now the focus is these cars. if we come back here live you can kind of make out a car in the background. it's a little dark here because it's so early. but it's pretty much a ghost town behind these barriers. the only people we've been seeing are police and night watchmen standing guard. we're here live in san bruno, ktvu channel 2 news. all right. later today the san mateo county health department will host the latest event designed to help the victims of that pipeline explosion. the meeting starts at 1:00 p.m. at san bruno's veterans memorial recreation center on city park way. south san francisco city manager says he's stunned by pg&e's risky pipeline list.

specifically he can't believe a section of pipeline just two miles from the san bruno explosion did not make the list. now pg&e admits that three years ago the buried pipe section was labeled with an unacceptably high risk and needed to be replaced. >> obviously surprised me that we're not on there after we heard reports that we're in a very high risk section of pipe in our town and not on the top 100 when it comes out. >> we did further evaluation of that line including excavating three ten foot sections of the line to physically look at it and ensure that the line was in good condition. >> now the replacement once scheduled for last year is now set for 2013. we'll continue to follow the san bruno fire and investigation throughout the morning. don't forget you can also get updates any time of day by going to our channel 2 website at ktvu.com. time now 6:03. about 50 people evacuated overnight from a student housing facility at berkeley

when a fire broke out. this happened just after 11:00 on prospect. it's right next to the cal memorial stadium. witnesses say they heard an explosion before the fire was discovered right near a pile of paint cans. police and fire crews quickly got there but three students who live there jumped this before the crews arrived and they helped put out that fire. >> got there it was probably as big as three people standing. a bunch of paint cans put out with fire extinguishers. >> luckily no one was hurt. the investigation continues. a san jose police officer faces possible charges of criminal false imprisonment in a bizarre sex case involving his teenage stepdaughter. investigators say he was in full uniform when he pretended to arrest her boyfriend for having sex with a 14-year-old girl. the veteran motorcycle officer says he was simply trying to scare the boy. but the 15-year-old boy's

parents say he's an angry cop abusing his authority. time now 6:04. there's a good chance drivers heading to work in the bay area's largest city could run into some bumpy roads. ktvu is out there right now. we'll have a live report on exactly what we're talking about in just a couple minutes. meantime a decision will likely be made today on a plan to make drastic cut backs to ac transit bus services. the planned cuts would save ac transit more than $12 million by eliminating more than half of the weekend routes and four of the six overnight lines. a lot of people who really rely on those services say those cutbacks will leave them stranded. >> i go to school in the evenings. i'm not going to be able to get to school. going to be hard. >> now yesterday a group of protesters protested in oakland. they are trying to get the board of directors to vote against those cuts tonight. one board member says he feels

their pain but says with the district got an impasse with the union drivers and mechanics they've run out of options. if the cuts are approved, they would take effect in december. 6:05 is the time right now. let's go back over to sal. what are you looking at, sal? >> we're looking at all kinds of things right now. as a matter of fact the traffic is going to be busy. we have a couple of traffic pictures to show you first here on 80 westbound as you drive out to the macarthur maze. not a bad commute. you can see a little bit of a back up building. always starts with a small one. and then pretty soon it starts stretching all the way back. but for now the back up is short. the metering lights should be turned on relatively soon and then you'll be waiting at the toll plaza. no problems reported on the upper deck of the bay bridge. live picture of interstate 880 right here traffic moves well. if you're scrambling to catch your flight at oakland airport no major issues on the freeway there. and this morning's commute is going to be okay on 237 getting into the valley. already some slowing as you

approach 880 but right here it looks okay. and we're talking about a woman, a car into a store here, a woman whose car smashed the window of a hayward auto supply store is recovering from her injuries this morning. it happened shortly after 10:00 last night on jackson street. firefighters rescued the driver from her car and she was taken to the hospital. we don't know the extent of her injuries. there's no word if the store will be closed for business today while workers obviously have a lot of clean up to do. 6:07. here's steve. sal, thank you, sir. good morning to you all. little chill this morning no doubt about it. i'll show you some very cool temperatures. but first the wind has cranked up here. mt. tamalpais gusts to 46 although in the last hour looks to be decreasing. altamont pass hold on to the steering wheel. gusts to 34. crystal springs reservoir on 280 saw gusts coming out of the hills to 27 miles per hour. oakland airport 21. about the same for sfo. hayward gusts to 20 miles per

hour. all associated with the little low right there. there it goes. flies out of the picture. but that has ramped up the breeze. clouds have moved off but still the by-product of low clouds left behind. patchy low clouds will clear out. it's not solid. we will have a cooler forecast. focus on livermore. target forecast for the day. it's mostly cloudy there right now. 57 at 7:00 a.m. go 68 at noon but sunny and breezy and on the cool side. 73 by this afternoon. so 60s and 70s. sunny but breezy. not too bad. in a wind protected area in the sun maybe not too bad. temperatures on the cool side look at kenwood right now 42. petaluma 49. wood side on the me anyone else last and lost altos at 49. if it wasn't for the breeze i think it would be colder for some. would not be surprise first- degree a couple upper 30s show up. 49 tahoe. reason being clouds and a

breeze. truck key is 39. our system will move out. exit stage right. and another system will move into the north. that will keep things in check for about another day or two. then high pressure says i'm going to visit california and spend the weekend there. that means warmer weather. few clouds, cool but sunny and breezy. windy coast and in the hills. temperatures 60s and 70s. that's it. 60s and low to mid-70s even. a cold tomorrow morning. then sunny fall tonight 8:09 p.m. and then little system friday to the north but then we ramp it up for warm to hot conditions by the weekend. pam and dave. like the fall leaves. time now 6:09. good chance drivers are heading for work today in the bay area's largest city you'll probably run into some pretty bumpy roads. ktvu has the details about all of this. we're live in san jose. what's happening? >> reporter: dave, according to this national survey the largest city in the bay area has the worst roads.

you're looking at some pretty bad potholes there at the beginning of this intersection as the cars go by. according to trip, a national group called trip, san jose has the worst roads in the country for an urban area with a population over 500,000 people. now the road from here to paloalto about 18 miles ranks third. top two in a second. according to the authors of the study, 24% of the nation's major metropolitan roads, interstates, freeways and other local routes have pavements in puerto rico poor condition that's just the average in additional operating vehicle costs. >> all the way from the plant all the way back towards where you get onto capitol it's all

welcome back. time now 6:14. it's been a hot topic from the beginning. now a new book by famed watergate journalist bob woodward claims the war in afghanistan also caused a deep division within the obama administration. we're live in the washington d.c. bureau with all the details. allison, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dave. in the early accounts of this book indicate that it reads like a reality tv show full of name calling, distrust and

divisions within the obama administration. the book is called obama's wars about the war in afghanistan and the war in his administration about how to manage it. the bottom line is that some of the key players on the president's national security team have expressed major doubts that his afghan war strategy will succeed. among them richard high school brook who vice president joe biden called egotistical. also new details about how general david patraeus dislikes some of the president's top aids. as for president obama he repeatedly pressed his team for a withdrawal plan last year that was never delivered. he immotherred at one meeting i want an exit strategy. and the book says he set an exit timetable because "i can't lose the whole democratic party." now obviously the white house gave boob woodward a bob woodward. for now live in washington

d.c., allison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. another one of president obama's top economic advisors is leaving the white house. larry summers is stepping down from his position as head of the national economic council. he plans to go back to harvard university at the end of this year. summers is the third member of president obama's economic team to step down in the middle of the economic crisis. senate democrats attached a revision to repeal don't ask don't tell to a popular defense spending bill but it was defeated with all republican voting against it. they accused democrats of trying to force the action before the november elections. >> this is a play tent political ploy in order to galvanize the other side facing a losing election.

>> senator mccain says the vote should wait until after the pentagon releases its new study on the policy which is due in december. the senate will bring the issue up again in a lame duck section after the elections. if democrats lose seats as expected, repealing the ban could prove even more difficult next year. another bill known as the dream act also failed in the senate in the same vote. it would have been allowed young people who are under 16 when they came to this country illegally to become citizens after they graduate from high school and spend two years in college or the military. sponsors plan to make the dream act the first amendment to the defense bill that was just defeated. time now 6:17. san francisco city officials have a vision of fewer drivers on city streets in the future. the chronicle's reporting the city's municipal transportation agency wants to convert the city into a place where driving would be a last resort. agency officials say the focus should be on making roads

better suited for bicyclists and pedestrians. and at the same time improving public transportation and car pooling. all right. it is 6:17. sal is checking on the toll plaza. already crowded, sal? >> yeah. it's getting crowded. good morning to you. if you look at the toll plaza you're going to see more people arriving. this is about the time the magic hour when they switch on the metering lights and then there's a crowd that develops waiting to get on to the bridge. they do that of course so that the bridge doesn't become completely over capacity and they want to meter the five lanes getting into san francisco. then there's the toll where you wait. right now the wait is about five minutes or so. nothing major. but the earlier you get there the better. if you want to go after 9:00 you have that option but you probably don't. go ahead and look at northbound 101 approaching the 80 split that traffic is okay. even that's getting more crowded. steve and i have been talking it's kind of windy. windy on some of the bridges. traffic is looking good on the

peninsula. southbound 280 all of a sudden a bunch of slow traffic approaching the 380 interchange heading down. it's better after the mill area there and down to burling game. you're correct. we have some gusts over 30 miles per hour mainly in the higher elevations. some of the bridges, roads, will have gusts over 25. keep that in mind. it's also chilly out there. we have more upper 40s and 50s but low 40s especially in the north bay up in sonoma county and napa county. patchy low clouds will clear out and sunny after yesterday's system. wasn't a strong system as we said dynamic. cold air with it and also picked up the wind. cloudy in tahoe. sunny but breezy and cool after patchy low clouds. 60s and 70s, 64 in san francisco. mostly clear but rather windy at times. 42 kenwood. that's getting cold. mid-40s upper 40s petaluma, sonoma, all hovering in the upper 40s. all associated with the low heading into nevada.

but as it does it picks up the wind. few clouds, cool, sunny but breezy to windy. winds along the coast mainly in the higher elevations. 60s and 70s today. we will cool it off on this last day of summer. fall starts tonight at 8:09 p.m. tomorrow morning will be very chilly. upper 30s in the north bay. but then we start a warm up. rather pronounced with 70s, 80s and 90s. thank you, steve. clor ox moving hundreds of jobs from its oakland headquarters to another east bay location. executives want to consolidate research operations into one location. it already has 400 research and development workers at its campus in pleasanton and plans to relocate 500 others there by the end of next year. but they will keep its corporate headquarters and 800 workers in downtown oakland. if you're planning to travel for thanksgiving, expect to pay about 10% more than you did last year. the average domestic air fare over the thanksgiving holiday

is $384 round trip. but if you insist on flying when most people do, the tuesday before thanksgiving and the sunday after the holiday, you could pay nearly $200 more than that. that's because airlines have not been willing to add flights due to the economy. limited seats mean airlines can charge more for the premium days and times. time now 6:20. the newest restaurant survey for the bay area is out. it shows two trends. first we're cutting back on how often we eat out. before the recession we ate out 3.2 times a week. that's down to 2.8. when we do dine out we're being real careful with our money. >> i think people are being much more careful about what they spend. they're cutting out expensive bottles of wine which are pure profit for the restaurant. >> diners are also demanding changes to menus. almost 80% of bay area diners say they want organic foods available. this survey for the bay area shows the most popular local

restaurant is gary danko in san francisco. it's been number one the last five years. two other san francisco restaurants, boulevard and slanted door, come in second and third. french laundry and cyrus round out the local top five. well, an important decision on capital punishment is. [ indiscernible ] in years. why the newest death chamber could be put to use as soon as next week. and a series of the arrests in the southern california town of bell. we'll find out what's next with the city officials police rounded up. and right now 237 is looking good. but find out one big factor that could slow you down on your way to work.

good morning. if you're driving across the bay area bridge soon, steve's been telling us it's windy. it certainly is. traffic on the bridges looking good though. westbound bay bridge has a small delay. 6:25. let's go back to dave and pam. all right, sal. police announcing a $25,000 reward for information in a homicide that happened exactly one year ago today. the victim 75-year-old joan rosen that will found shot to

death just outside of her front door. police say they've invested 4,000 hours following leads and investigating this but they've made no arrests as of yet. an anonymous donor has post the that reward money. eight city officials of the southern california town of bell are going from jail to court this morning. they were arrested in a scandal that has drawn nationwide attention. the mayor, the ex-city manager and six current and former city officials are accused of taking more than $5.5 million from this working class suburb of los angeles. the eight are facing dozens of charges for legally paying themselves enormous salaries. a federal judge could decide later this week whether to resume executions in california. capital punishment has been on hold in the state since 2006 following a legal claim that it may inflict cruel and unusual punishment. the state attorney general office is now asking the judge

to lift that ban saying that the state has modified its execution procedures. a ruling on the request is expected by friday. now the first execution if that moratorium is lifted will take place in san quentin's brand new lethal injection chamber. our cameras got a rare look inside. the $800,000 facility has a separate viewing room for the families of the inmate and the victim. now before witnesses were crammed into one room. >> it's night and day. much larger. adjacent to the security area is the holding cell where the inmate spends his last approximately six hours of his life. >> if the judge is satisfied with the state's new execution protocols, riverside county killer albert greenwood brown could become the first inmate to be executed in the new chamber. he's scheduled to be put to death a week from today. now if you're looking for more information about california's death row you can go to our website at ktvu.com.

welcome back to the morning news. they're just ringing the opening bell on wall street. making an appearance there on the new york stock exchange is the president of the republic of chile. some world leaders in town of course for the u.n. meeting.

[ audio problems ] stop in to pay a visit to wall street. looks like an okay day slightly lower as you can see opening numbers starting out. that follows some losses overnight in asia and this morning in europe after the federal reserve made some comments that the board is ready to step in and help the economy but didn't make any specific announcements on any measures. we'll see what happens. keep watching those numberfor you. all right. we'll go ahead and say good morning to you. thank you for joining us here on the ktvu morning news wednesday september 22nd. i'm dave clark. >> i'm pam cook. crews are working to repair a water main break in pleasant hill. ktvu channel 2 reporter jade hernandez joins us now with more on where you're going to want to avoid driving. jade. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. i got off the phone with the contra costa county water district spokeswoman just a few minutes ago and the good news is that there were 40 homes effected, pam, and those 40

residents now have water service restored. i want to step out of the way because i can show you there's a huge hole right here at this street. you can see where crews are working to repair this water main. it was an eight inch water main that broke yesterday evening around 7:30. authorities were worried about flooding. they were also worried that this is the second water main break in the same pipe in a little over a week. these residents reported this break around 7:30 and crews have been working since then to shut off the main to isolate the leak. the good news as i mentioned the 40 residents that were effected have had their water service restored and i've been told the main has been shut off. that's why repairs on this water line have now begun. and i want you to take a listen to a neighbor that we spoke to just about 30 minutes ago. he told us that his water was restored around 2:00 this morning. >> no. it stopped just down the street down here. it happened about a week ago

too. so i guess something's going on with the pipes. >> reporter: the contra costa county water district spokeswoman that i spoke to, jennifer allen, told me she is head today this intersection right here in pleasant hill. she said she's going to head down here and assess the situation. right now we understand those residents do have water service. so that's good news. of course traffic is being diverted around a huge hole in the middle of the street as crews continue to repair the eight inch water main that broke last night. we'll have more on this coming up. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are looking for a driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist. police say the 25-year-old victim was found shortly before 7:00 a.m. yesterday on banker road. he died at the scene. we don't know his identity. but investigators believe he was on his way to work when he

was hit. investigators say they haven't located any witnesses. if you have any information, please call san jose police. time now 6:33. we have an update now on a deadly crash in san jose we first told you about yesterday morning. police say the driver, 18-year- old mitch pennings was under the influence when he crashed his ford explorer into a light pole. his passenger whose name not yet released, was killed. police say pennings was found about a block away from the crash scene. he's facing several charges including vehicle manslaughter and felony drunk driving. a 16-year-old boy involved in a deadly crash has been booked now into juvenile hall after being released from the hospital. police say he was driving the car that collided with a big rig last friday. 16-year-oldize-year-old ice sack was a passenger was

killed. they found beer bottles at the scene. a police sketch of a man believed for two sexual assaults near lake merit. the female victims describe the man and you see in this police sketch right here an african- american in his 20s with a medium build about 5'10" to 6 feet tall. the two victims told police their attacker had a gun when they were robbed. then sexually assaulted them. both attacks happened sunday night. it was in a relatively secluded area around lake merit. a moss beach man arrested accused of vandalism. police say the 28-year-old was picked up after surveillance video from a mobile home park caught him walking up to the side of a truck and tagging it. he was booked into the san mateo county jail on eleven vandalism charges stemming from graffiti he's accused of leaving on vehicles. well, a woman whose car smashed through the window of a

hayward auto supply store is recovering from her injuries this morning. it happened shortly after 10:00 last night at the auto parts store on jackson street. firefighters rescued the driver from her car. she was taken to the hospital. we do not know the extent of her injuries. there's no word if the store will be closed for business today while workers clean up that damage. time now 6:35. a major clean up project in the san bruno disaster zone starts this morning. crews will start hauling away the wreckage of gutted car that is burned up in this month's pipeline explosion. those cars could create a toxic threat for the whole bay area. the season's first rains may stir up tox ins into the debris and the run off could run right into the san francisco bay. we'll continue to follow the san bruno fire and investigation throughout the morning for you. you can also get updates at any time by going to our channel 2 website at ktvu.com. well, if you are just joining us, sal says it's

getting pretty crowded at the toll plaza. >> it sure is. right now traffic is going to be busier at the toll plaza. they switched on the metering lights. you can see what was once kind of an empty toll plaza here is full. it is backed up beyond the 880 overcrossing. that's about 15 minutes or so. and you can see in the car pool lanes things are mostly moving here coming in to san francisco. no major problems in those outside car pool lanes. move along and take a look at interstate 880 also getting more crowded. we're going to ask steve if the wind has died down because the cameras have stopped shaking as much as they were earlier but we asked a professional about this. in the south bay moving well. 101 okay in the sunny vale. those commutes still doing well for the most part. windy on westbound 580 traffic slow now as you can see coming over the pass. 6:37. here's steve. sal, somebody get in touch

with you and myself on twitter. they have traffic or weather information. one of the points sal brought up earlier that i tweeted we had gusts to 44 miles an hour at the altamont pass about an hour ago. there are a few locations where the winds have picked up. things seem to have calmed down a little bit. oakland west at 18. sfo west at 12. concord south-southwest at 7. not too bad at the surface. but some of the higher elevations it's really cranked up. mt. tamalpais did have a gust of 46. that was about an hour ago. last i checked it was 38. so maybe things are calming down a little. there's the pass at 44. it's usually windy out there. crystal springs reservoir saw a gust coming out of the hills at 27 miles per hour. oakland airport 21 and hayward a gust to 20 about an hour ago. why? right there the little low. fog in advance of it and then higher cloud. fall starts tonight but this system come in and ushered in a very cool air mass. the higher clouds are gone but

there are a few little low clouds around. they'll clear pretty fast. just patchy low clouds. most locations are mostly clear. livermore forecast today starting with some low clouds. livermore airport says mostly cloudy. high of 73. if you can hold onto about sunday that high will be 93. so today will be the coolest day. 60s, 70s and 70s. sunny, mostly sunny. maybe not bad in wind protected area in the sun. 56 san francisco. high of 64. mostly clear just breezy windy at times. some of the lows checking in kenwood 42 this morning. four readings all around 44, 45, 46. petaluma 49. sonoma 49. wood acre in marin county 49. then woodside peninsula and lost altos at 49. 49 in tahoe but 39 truck ee. the system that came by right there is on its way out of here.

there's one more little gap. just a little one. little shaver up there has to clip the northern part of the state. that will keep us from warming too much. but after that all signs point towards high pressure being large and in charge by the weekend. but until then it's going to be a cool day after a few patchy clouds, sunny, breezy, 60s and 70s tomorrow morning it will be cold. upper 30s in the north bay but then start to warm it up gradually on friday and then look at that. weekend sunny side up and warmer with 80s and 90s. pam and dave. well, taking state budget talks on the road. why negotiations are coming to the governor in los angeles. which bay area city has the worst roads in the country. that's ahead when the morning news continues.

a new book by watergate journalist bob woodward. that book looks at the way the war in afghanistan caused a big division between the obama administration. a new study out today shows the bay area's largest city also has the worst roads of any big city in the country. ktvu is live now from san jose with the details. >> reporter: good morning, pam. now a little daylight out here we can show you some road out here. you can see the pothole in the roadway. if you look closely you can also see there's new pavement here. so whatever the reason they had to repave this spot at least there is a little bit of improvement. and then over to the right where people are zooming down monterey where those cars are going right now you can see there's a strip of new pavement there. not all bad news. the survey that we're talking about says if you start here and take monterey all the way to paloalto you're riding on one of the worst roads in the

country. survey acknowledges the projects the stimulus package has started but some people feel that the roads aren't as bad as the survey's putting it. >> the roads were horrible. probably the worst from some of a lot of the bay areas i've driven. but now they're doing a good job of cleaning stuff up. all the roads where i live are perfect. they're fun to drive on because they're so clean. >> reporter: the authors of the survey generally disagree with that. the road from here also ranks third on the list of the worst roads in san jose. according to the study's authors, trip, that's an advocacy group promoting transportation policies that relieve congestion, they say that 24% of the country's major roads, interstates and highways are in poor condition. conditions are so bad that it costs drivers an average of $402 a year to repair vehicles damaged by roads. in california cost of tires survey says drivers spend $6 to

$756 per year repairing vehicles because of bad roads. >> i have some pretty bad tires and i had to pull over and fix on the side of the road because i took a bolt from the construction that was going on over here. >> reporter: san jose these are the top three roads with the worst conditions. you can see the number three on the list is tully-curt they are to palo alto. san jose number one, los angeles number two and the authors have got concord, concord, california, at number four. that doesn't seem right or make sense to me. so i called trip this morning in washington d.c. and they told me that those are the figures they got from the transportation department. they also said that concord may have been broken off as a separate metropolitan area but if you live here you know that concord is in the oakland san francisco area which ranks number five. now we have to call the transportation department to see why concord is even on that list of top cities where the

risk was higher. reporting live in san jose, ktvu channel 2 news. state budget negotiations today will take place in southern california today. senate president protem is flying to los angeles. he'll meet with governor schwarzenegger at home being treated for a cold. he says he was tired of sitting around in sacramento waiting for things to happen on the budget. by the way, the california budget is 84 days overdue. later this morning in washington a congressional committee will hear more about the contaminated eggs that made more than 1500 people sick. the heads of two iowa egg farms where the eggs came from are expected to testify. they're expected to talk about conditions at their farms after they tested positive for salmonella two years ago. hundreds of millions of eggs

produced at the farms have been recalled throughout the summer. two teenagers now facing prison time after they pled guilty to assault charges. prosecutors say 18-year-old will be sentenced to eleven years and eight months in prison. joseph will be sentenced to ten years in prison. police say he fired a gun from the sunroof of a car driven by we are too much. targeting a minivan driven by the ex-boyfriend who was injured along with another young man. a late night car accident knocked out a fire hydrant in oakland causing quite an unusual sight. here's what it looked like. take a look at that picture. water from that hydrant shooting high up into the air. it all happened when a car and a minivan collided at the intersection of 35th and international. two people who were eating dinner in the area heard the crash and quickly came to the aid of the victim. >> we heard the noise so we came rushing in. there was an elderly lady in

the backseat. i helped the elderly lady out and my friend helped one of the girls out that was in the other passenger seat. >> the good samaritan tells us that one of the victims of the crash was pregnant. he says four people went to the hospital but the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. time now 6:48. sal says we're getting busy in the commute right? >> this is the time when it starts getting kind of to the peak between now and 7:30 or 7:45. this is the peak of the commute. if you want to take a bridge not the bay bridge westbound 92 looks good as an alternate. you can head up 101 without any big problems. but if you must be taking the bridge that everybody else takes, let's go to the bay bridge and take a look at that. it is pretty crowded right now. there's a big delay at the toll plaza. at least 20 minutes coming in to san francisco with no major problems on the span. no major crashes or stalled vehicles. moving along take a look at 101

in san francisco. that traffic moving along very nicely approaching the 80 split. just checked in with bart and they say their trains are moving on time. here's steve. a little bouncing around some of the traffic cameras. the wind has been up to about 40 miles an hour. some higher elevations. not as bad as the surface. there will be breezy blustery conditions but the visibility will be sparkling today. the wind associated with that low came by right there. there it goes. it's gone. higher clouds late in the afternoon and temperatures struggled yesterday a lot of 70s. that will be the same case today even with sunshine. a lot of cool air in place. temperatures yesterday dropped will hold and steady today not much of a change. santa rosa didn't change a thing. san francisco upped one. walnut creek from 72 yesterday to 74. and downtown oakland i think it was the third day in a row about 67. i didn't see any reason to change anything. san jose 73. tomorrow we'll start a warm up. 40s there are a lot of low and mid-40s especially to the north. santa rosa napa 47.

breeze helps keep temperatures up a bit. seeing upper 40s and right at 50 for a few. [ indiscernible ] san jose 55. and mostly clear skies. patchy low clouds around. they won't last long. 49 tahoe. 39 also in truck ee. that system coming by right there has moved out. and there's one more system right there, just a little guy going to clip the northern part of the state. that will keep things in check today. keep the breeze going. and a few clouds. generally sunny, breezy, maybe in a wind protected area. not too bad with the sun. but temperatures 60s and 70s. windy coast some of the higher elevations. 77 antioch. morgan hill to gill roy maybe hillsburg kind of cool there. 60s and 70s in between and temperatures start to rebound after a cold thursday morning. then it will be sunny. fall starts tonight 8:09 p.m. then nice on friday. look at that. sunny and warmer weather on the weekend. one stock to watch this

morning is adobe systems. the san jose based software company's stock is down 20% right now. that's after posting a 69% jump in net income for the last quarter. but a disappointing forecast for the current quarter. again, that stock down about 20%. and checking in on wall street that is effecting the tech stocks on the nasdaq as well. that sector getting hit today. but in general other stocks are up a little bit following some losses overnight in asia and europe. the dow jones taking a live look at the big board on the new york stock exchange. the dow is up 24 points right now. the oakland zoo is the 2010 employer of the year chosen by the nonprofit marriott foundation. the award goes to a company or organization that participates in the bridges program that helps provide jobs for young people with disabilities. the oakland zoo hires between six and twelve young people from the program to work at the zoo during the summer and the

you can actually post complaints about bedbugs. it's a bedbug registry.com. now in the south bay vector control officials say the problem has spread beyond hotels. >> originally it was only hotels that were people stayed at hotels were calling us. now it's really spread. i'd say you know more than half of them are not hotels. >> this new website allows you to type in the name of a city and you can read detailed accounts of bedbugs. they don't carry disease but they can cause red welts on your body if they bite you. and they can get infected. san francisco a step closer to expanding law onto back key sales. supervisors voted yesterday to extend that ban to all stores with pharmacies including
