>> steve, right now, traffic is moving along pretty well if you're driving on highway 4. contra costa county. we do have a problem in contra costa county. that'd be an accident on the east shore freeway. watch for traffic on the on ramp but not the freeway itself. 6:00, growing concern right now at an apartment complex near walnut creek after the fifth sexual assault in recent months. ktvu's jade hernandez joins us right now. i know you're talking to terrified residents. good morning, jade. >> good morning, the last attack took place several weeks ago, right here at the park regency apartment complex. we were here and reported on that sexual assault. management added security and guards, this morning you can see a security guard standing at the front gate. and this is the fifth attack since june and in the last two attacks, including the one which took place this past saturday, the attacker hasn't been caught

or or identified. investigators are looking into whether saturday's attack is tied to the last actual attack which took place on september 16th are here in unincorporated walnut creek. a man grabbed a 43-year-old woman before 7:00 in the evening and tried to force her into her own apartment with it seemed the intent to rape her. the woman fought to free herself. as she fought to escape, she fell downstairs and hurt herself but managed to get away from the attacker. >> they won't let me out. they said as of the fourth incident, they won't let anybody out without paying anything. and uh, so now we went in today and they still theshgsz not letting anyone out. >> police arrested this man,

22-year-old antonio buton aaugust 10th pointed to dna evidence that tied him to the first three attacks at park regency. he's pleaded not guilty. but no arrests have been made in the latest two attacks, the one on september 16th and the one that happened this past saturday. the victim this past saturday describes her attacker as a white man, 5'9" and a medium build, facial hair. last seen wearing black jeans, black t-shirt and a black baseball cap. authorities say the last two attacks do have similarities. the manager here declined to comment on the policy which would allow residents to get out of their lease, but of course we'll continue to follow the story. we've already contacted the contra costa county sheriffs office this morning. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. a desperate search is underway for a woman abducted from her san jose home less than 24 hours ago. claudine wong has more on the

investigation of that story. >> we're out where this abduction happened. at this point we haven't had any word that this woman has been found. the search is underway, after this uh, kidnapping, yesterday in san jose. we want to show you a picture of 18-year-old judy la. she and a 28-year-old man were confronted by a suspect yesterday morning just after 7:45. the suspect stabbed the man multiple times and took la against her will and took off. the man is in the hospital with non-life threatening wounds. la and the suspect haven't been seen since. she's described as 5'2", 115 pounds with brown hair and black eyes. the suspect is described as brian adrong. police believe he may be using his own car to run.

the vehicle is a black 2002 lexus is250. california license plate of 6dsy212. police are asking for the public's help to help them find la and the man that kidnapped her. we're unclear of the connection between everyone and how this all started at 7:47 in the morning yesterday, but we're calling san jose police and we're checking with residents and we'll let you know what we find coming up on the morning news. this week a big vote set for thursday by california lawmakers on the state's long overdue budget. governor schwarzenegger and legislative leaders finally came to an agreement late friday. details reportedly include $7.5 billion in spending cuts. that's down from the $12 billion the governor had asked for. the deal anticipates getting $5 billion from the federal government, $1.4 billion from

state revenues, $1.2 billion from selling state properties and leasing them back. a ruling is expected today from the california supreme court on whether governor schwarzenegger can keep ordering state employees to take unpaid days off to balance the budget. the so-called furlough fridays began in february 2009. several lawsuits have challenged the furloughs. the supreme court has combined those lawsuits into one. the cleanup starts this morning on what's left of a san jose diesel annual spill. the fire officials say a tank on top of at&t's corporate building spilled 1300 gallons of fuel saturday. they'll focus on collecting the fuel that got into storm drains. starting this morning, things are going to speed up for light rail commuters in san jose. valley transportation authority is launching its commuter express, light rail service. six new trips will be added

if you're heading to europe, the u.s. is warning be extra careful because of possible terrorist threats. ktvu's alison burns is live in our washington, d.c. newsroom with more on what's behind the travel alert. >> reporter: we're already hearing from a number of reports that americans traveling overseas are not really sure what to make of this travel alert. it's pretty vague, it doesn't warn not to go to europe, but it basically warns travellers to be cautious. avoid obvious targets, remove luggage tags that identify them as americans. it reminds travellers that terrorists have targeted airports and public transportation. critics say americans traveling abroad just need more information. >> it has the ring of look the government knows there's this threat, it's an increasing problem. what they want to do is protect themselves, so they warn you. >> reporter: what's behind the

heightened alert. cnn is airing this video of an al-qaeda-linked group training in afghanistan. a terror suspect in u.s. custody has said the group is plotting an assault on public places like the one in mumbai two years ago that killed more than 160 people. reporting live from washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:15. iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad is making controversial statements about the united states, this time saying american leaders should be buried. president ahmadinejad made that remark yesterday, responding to statements from u.s. officials in recent months saying that there remains an option on the table to launch a military attack on iran's nuclear program. ahmadinejad once again accused the u.s. government of being behind the september 11th attacks. today begins a new session of the u.s. supreme court with several landmark cases on the

agenda and a new face. the justices, among other things, will examine whether free speech protects anti-gay protests at military funerals and if it protects the sale of violent video games to children. the newest supreme court justice elena kagan takes the bench for the first time. the l.a. times says more than $69 million in california welfare money has been spent or withdrawn outside the state, including millions spent in las vegas casinos and on cruise ships. the report comes from the california department of social services, $11.8 million of the cash benefits were withdrawn in las vegas, far more than any other destination. $387,000 withdrawn in hawaii and $16,000 from cruise ships. a bay area woman is the

second highest ranking official on the federal reserve board. she's been the president of the federal reserve bank of san francisco since 2004. yellen will now help decide how much additional aid the fed should provide to energize the u.s. economy. and muni appears to have found a sure fire remedy for reducing the number of sick calls it receives. management is now requiring a doctor's note every time a muni driver calls in six. sick calls have plunged 42% in recent weeks. right now, it's almost 6:18. want to check with sal for problems in the commute. >> right now traffic is doing pretty well. if you are driving in most areas, let's go outside, want to show you that 80 westbound is getting more crowded as you

but the san francisco-based bank says it's confident that the foreclosure documents involving the bank are accurate. the executive says he relied on co-workers to ensure that all the other information was correct. bank officials say they have no plans to halt any foreclosures. bank of america looks into paperwork problems with some mortgages. b of a is investigating loans from 23 states where workers rushed the foreclosure process for thousands of borrowers. time now 6:20. we're getting ready for fleet week and some of san francisco's most popular visitors arrived today. the blue angels are scheduled to arrive at 1:30 this afternoon. the precision flying team will practice over the bay and the city thursday and friday. will perform in the fleet week air show saturday and sunday if

traffic on bay area bridges looking pretty good. the bay bridge is getting a little bit of a back-up. those metering lights have gone on. traffic is backed up beyond the 880 overpass. golden gate and richmond bridge traffic moving along nicely. the university of california's debating what to do with the abandoned mansion that used to house uc presidents. the blake house is unfit to live in according to uc officials. it could cost $10 million to fully repair the mansion which is near berkeley.

renovation plans are being criticized by uc staff and students. well today, election officials are scheduled to start sending out vote by mail ballots. those ballots should start showing up in your mailboxes by the end of next week. you have until the 18th of next month to register to vote in the november election. if you're already registered ask for a vote by mail ballot until october 26th. voters in three bay area bay cities will see a ballot different than the ones they're used to. oakland, berkeley and san leandro will used ranked choice ballots. if no canneddidate wins a majority the second and third choices will be considered as well.

well there were heated exchanges during the second debate between meg whitman and jerry brown with the issue of whitman's former housekeeper taking center stage. the face-off on saturday was the first ever spanish language debate in the governor's race in california. the issue of immigration reform came up repeatedly. whitman was asked about the undocumented housekeeper she had employed for nine years. she blamed her democratic rival for the controversy. >> you should be ashamed. you put her deportation at risk, you put her out there and you should be shamed for sacrificing nikki diaz on the alter of your political ambition. >> don't run for governor unless you can stand up and say "i made a mistake." you've blamed her, blamed me, blamed the unions, but don't

identify two men who robbed a 70-year-old man at gunpoint. police have released a photo of one of the gunman. take a look. latino, 40 years old, spoke spanish. the second man also spoke spanish, he's described as african-american, about 45 years old, 5'7" tall and stocky. both men are considered armed and dangerous. an oakland woman is facing child abuse charges after her 2-year-old daughter was found beaten inside their home. neighbors called police last friday. police say the toddler suffered injuries to her face and body and was taken to the hospital. her mother was arrested, 45-year-old griselva castaneda. she also has two teenaged children and a 25-year-old son. no word on the toddler's condition, but she will reportedly be placed in protective custody along with her siblings. time now 6:33.

investigators go back to a santa clara apartment complex badly damaged by a fire. residents were forced to stay someplace else because there's no electricity right now. luckily no one was hurt. firefighters say it appears the fire started in the attic. it doesn't appear to have been an arson fire. a kidnapping suspect is in the hospital and a mother and baby are safely back home, after a terrifying incident that ended on 280 in wood side saturday night. a 26-year-old man kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and the couple's 11-month-old daughter from a san jose home. they say he then raced up and down the peninsula before nengs intentionally crashing his car and jumping off a 30-foot overpass. the mother and babey weren't

good morning, welcome back. here's a quick look at top stories for you. some residents in an apartment complex near walnut creek plan to move out this week after the fifth attack on women in recent months. the latest one happened saturday night. today the california state supreme court is scheduled to rule on furlough fridays. the court will decide whether the governor has the authority to order state workers to take unpaid days off to balance the state's budget. american travellers are being warned about potential terrorist threats in europe. terrorists may be plotting attacks in europe on public places. overnight: there are reports out of pakistan on another attack on trucks carrying nato supplies to afghanistan. it was the fourth such attack

since friday. the pakistani taliban are claiming responsibility for an attack yesterday. at least 20 tankers carrying oil for nato and u.s. troops in afghanistan were set on fire. three people were killed in that attack. the wife of the muslim clerk who wants to build a community center near ground zero says her family has been getting death threats. she made the revelation in a television interview. the threats are being investigated by police. sketches of the islamic center were released last week. construction is at least two to three years away. it is the most comprehensive survey on the sexual behavior of americans since 1994. researchers from indiana university say they surveyed almost 6,000 people about their sexual behavior. among the findings in this report, sexually active 14-year-olds have the highest rate of the u.s. of condoms. 79%. that compares to 25% for all men in the survey.

participants also reported having sex in 41 different ways. 1/3 of the women said they had pain during sex. that compared to just 5% for men. the co-founder of invitro fertilization is this year's nobel prize winner in medicine. robert edwards' break through helped millions of infertile couples have children. their efforts led to the birth of the world's first test tube baby in 1978. researchers are puzzled over new findings about the effects of obesity on your health. a newly study in the journal diabetes care finds that obese people who are metabolically healthy can improve their health by losing a few pounds. they say it may depend on where the person stores their fat and that belly fat is typically the least healthy.

possible witnesses including jonbenet's brother, burke. he was just 9 years old when his sister was found strangled in the family's basement. the police are hoping this new investigation will trigger memories of extra details and in fact at least one detective reportedly still believes jonbenet's family was somehow responsible for her death. high-tech is going to the dogs. puppy tweets is an electronic dog tag with a sensor that detects your dog's movements and sends out a variety of tweets. there are 500 tweets programmed into the device, for example, if a dog is very active he could tweet chasing everything that moves is definitely a full-time job. sal is an expert on the movement in our commute. how's it going? >> yes, it's going pretty well. uh, and i don't know if my tweets will be as interesting as the dogs but you can try it anyway. there's my address below my name there. let's take a look at what we
