>> i'm ken wayne. >> i'm heather holmes. the search is on for the gunman who opened fire on the dance floor during a party at a east bay golf club. two people were killed. we are live with the latest on the investigation including new information about just who rented the space. >> reporter: a beautiful afternoon has golfers wrapping up a day of golf here. everybody arriving here has come upon a surprising and tragic scene. honoring . >> i think it's very sad. >> reporter: they learned here that a double homicide happened last night. they say about 9:45 gun fire rang out at a party inside wedge's restaurant.

>> the officers reported is that people were fleeing, running away from the building, fleeing at high rates of speed in cars as they left the area. >> reporter: paramedics rushed three to the hospital. one of them died. another man was taken by a friend to a different hospital where he died. police say only that one victim was a 19-year-old and the other about the same age. the two others had minor injuries. police are trying to learn as much as possible from the roughly 100 young people at the party which has been challenging. >> especially dealing people between the ages of 16 and 25. it's very typical that people are scared for their own safety, especially knowing that homicide suspects still at large. >> reporter: police add they don't know who held the party or why. >> through the management of the course it appears that the application was either false or provided fake information. >> reporter: the incident seemed to hurt the spirits of

golfers. >> very sad the way the society has become. to many guns, we grew up guys just fought with their hands, no one shot anybody. >> feel sad for the families who have lost loved ones. >> reporter: police said they don't know what led to the shooting, whether it was planned or the result of a confrontation on the dance floor. they also don't flow if the victims were the intended targets. there are no suspects yet. ktvu channel 2news. >> fire crews busy putting out a fire at a refinery in martinezt. broke out around 12:30 on top of a wastewater tank. one worker was sent to the hospital with smoke inhalation. the fire crew put the fire out. no shelter in place was ordered for residents but a hazmat crew was sent into monitor the situation. >> bart police and federal air marshalls teamed up today to safe guard heavyly traveled

areas in oakland. they did a special patrol during the raider's game. teams of police and marshalls patrolled the airport bart station and the surrounding area. they say the idea behind the deployment is to refine and assess counter terrorism patrols in a mass transit setting as well as provide a visible deter entity. >> any time you have a large number of people in a confined area it's a possible terrorist target. we -- we understand that and the transportation security understands that. >> reporter: security officials reported no major incidents during the operation. >> san jose firefighters say budget cuts had a direct impact on their response this weekend to a fire that caused substantial damage to at least three businesses. the fire broke out near a fire station that was recently shut down. we are in san jose with details. >> reporter: we are at station 34 off king road this truck you see behind us is here just

temporarily. august 1st, 34 company closed as firefighters were laid off. the union said the closure had direct impact on a three alarm fire that broke out this time yesterday just a mile and a half from here. it started as a grass fire but destroyed the transmission building for two radio stations. the fire department hasn't calculated the response time but the union is pointing toward fire as proof that the laidoff firefighters need to be reinstated and the radio stations trying to recover. >> i had calls like crazy on my phone saying we are off the air, what do we do? >> reporter: she manages a spanish language station whose transmitter lies in this rubble. along with that a vietnamese station, engineers from both

stations explored building temporary transmitters >> right now and -- we need to go back to -- >> reporter: smoke from the fire forced evacuation of 40 workers at the kellogg factory. it started in the grass but winds spanned it over five acres. >> this is a tragedy as a result of a lack of proper resources to properly put fires out and respond to emergencies in the city. >> reporter: today the firefighter's union offered to discuss new concessions on wages and benefits, not the 3% it was offering earlier. >> tell us what that number is what we will take it to the membership. we want to get the 49 firefighters back online. >> reporter: at the news conference city councilmember showed up arguing that until now firefighters have not been realistic in their offers. >> it's a six point difference that has to come from somewhere. should we close the libraries to do that?

there behind you fred. sciencists say they may know what is to blame for an unusual spike in the number of dead whales found in water around the bay area. at least six dead whales have been seen or washed on shore around the area. researchers say they appear to be following swarms of krill which are taking them into the path of ship traffic. this summer a warning was issued to boaters to watch out for whales in the area. >> if you drive you are probably noticing a increase at the gas pump. according to a new survey out today goose prices have ricen the past two week as long with crude oil prices. at the same time fuel supplies have declined. the nationwide average for a gallon of regular is up more than eight cents to $2.77 a gallon. prices a little higher in the

the plan to bring them up one at a time. >> the operation should start wednesday. that's what we expect now and the whole process should take 48 hours, two days, from the first rescue to the last rescue. >> reporter: the men are said to be in high spirits but are looking at a risky ride to the top. blood clot is a concern because of the speed they will travel. they are taking asprin and will drink a high calorie liquid to combat nausea. the escape route is filled with twists and turns . >> it is great for the families of the miners and for the people it's a joy. >> reporter: they will wear oxygen masks while making the 20 minute trip to the surface. officials will be able to see them on video and speak with them through a microphone during the trip.

in new york. fox news. >> in other news of the world tonight in hungry crews today started clearing roads and homes coated with thick red toxic sludge. bulldozers were working in fields collecting the sludge and changing the soil. officials today said the wall of filled with the sludge will eventually collapse. the disaster has killed at least seven and injured 120 more. voters turned out in force to chose a new government that they hope will bring in democracy. the election was peaceful without any serious violations. it's set to switch to the new system. it's won praise from the united states. under the new system it'll have to free on forming a government and pick a prime minister. today's vote follows a year of troubles and ethnic violence. in north korea ten thousand soldiers marched in the largest military display of the
