on this monday morning. mostly clear skies. looks like patchy fog. that's about it. and temperatures they will start to warm up. we're already sitting near 60 for many. it won't take long. a little northeast wind later today. 70s and 80s and low 90s. >> thanks steve. right now we are looking at the east bay. this is your traffic as you make your way through bay point. looking good on highway four. and up next we have san francisco 101 traffic is also looking good. 6:00 let's head back to the desk. thank you. in the news police are still trying to sort out circumstances for a shooting over the weekend at a golf clubhouse. two people were shot dead. ally is live. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dave. a little while we'll tell you

about the challenges police are having. first here are the details on this shooting. it happened at the monarch bay golf course at the restaurant. the restaurant rents out space for private parties. this shootings happened during one of the private events. san leandro police say at 10:00 gunshots ringed out. all the of the victims were men. two of them later died at area hospitals. the person who organized this private party told the restaurant managers this event was for a family member of his. and his group for college age friends. the people between the party were between 16 and 25 years old. investigators say there were as many as 100 people at this private event. they have interviewed many witnesses. police say they need more people to come forward with more information. >> the challenges from law

enforcement standpoint is to have people come forward. have people come forward and tell us what they saw or what they know or information they have heard. we can work off people who are willing to come forward as cooperative witnesses. we can also work with people who wish to remain unanimous. >> reporter: and police are still looking for the shooting suspect or suspects. they are also looking for the person that paid for and organized this party. police say that person gave the restaurant manager a fake name and falsified information on his application in order to reserve this space. now a little later on this morning we'll post the number for people to call police if they want to report what they saw at that event on saturday evening. that number will be on our website ktvu.com. time now 6:02. we have developing news happening now. several protestors have taken

over this vacant hotel. these are live pictures folks. a live look at the hotel at eddy street. they say they are doing this as part of the first world homeless day. yesterday about 100 people marched through to take over this hotel. it's not clear yet how many protestors are still inside the building this morning. again these are live pictures. this is a developing story happening as we speak. we'll have more details as they are available. >> time now 6:03. a salsa club has been shut down. police are asking witnesses to come forward. the shooting happened early saturday morning at cafe coke coco moe. they say people opened fire inside the hotel. time now 6:03. pinole police are searching for a man that tried to lure two young girls into his vehicle. he's described as white with a

gray goatee and a missing tooth. police say the man drove up to the girls on friday on sunny view drive. he allegedly threatened them and grabbed the younger girl's shirt. her sister pulled her away and both girls ran home. police say he was driving a jeep. cleanup crews plan to finish up their work in san bruno. they have been removing contaminated soil and charred debris from dozens of destroyed homes over the past two weeks. scientists will start testing the soil for toxic soil. those tests will help determine if it's safe to rebuild in that community. meantime there is new report raising new concerns about the safety of pg & e pipelines. they checked the records between 2004 and 2009.

those records indicate the puc did not impose any fines on pg & e in that entire time. that is despite the fact that pg & e had more pipeline infractions than the rest of california's pipelines combined. two bay area radiations are off the air this morning after a fire destroyed their transmission fires. they also destroyed the building that was home to spanish language station kzfs. also forced the evacuation of the eggo waffle factory. those flames may have been spotted sooner had a nearby fire station had been opened. it has been closed since august. >> this is a tragedy as a result of lack of resources. >> 49 firefighters have been laid off. mayor chuck reid says it's because the union has not made

the concessions demanded by the city. they are expected to return to the bargaining table sometime this week. time now 6:05. the giants are one win away from moving on to the championship series. the giants were down to their final strike in the ninth inning but they rallied for two runs and beat the braves 3-2. ktvu news spoke to one giant fan that watched that big game in enemy territory. >> that was a great game. i've never seen a stadium get so loud and quiet. >> the giants lead the series 2- 1 now they can close out the series with a win in atlanta. bumgarner will pitch for the giants. lowe will be on the mound for the braves. you will find much more of the giants coverage on ktvu.com. click on the giants playoff

obama hits five states in a week. he's trying to keep control of congress. it was pennsylvania yesterday. florida today. >> on november sec i need you as fired up as you were in 2008. [ cheering and applause ] because we've got a lot of work ahead of us. >> reporter: now before he hits the campaign trail today, he meets with some of the mayors at the white house. he's promoting a $50 billion spending bill to promote the transportation. he says it will create jobs and be a big boost in the construction industry. we talked to john boehner that said it's that spending that is hurting the economy. >> i think we have to fixes institution of the congress. we have to get serious about

spending. >> reporter: i'll have more on the states the president is targeting. for now we are live in washington, d.c.. time now 6:14 karzai confirm there is are unofficial talks going on with the taliban. it's aimed at bringing peace to afghanistan. appearing on larry king live president karzai explains why he is reaching out to the taliban. >> they are kids that have run and away if the family. the family should try to bring them back and give them better discipline and incorporate them back into the family and the society. >> however president karzai said any members of the taliban that are working against afghanistan they would not be include in the talks. germans want custody of the man that is in custody. the 36-year-old german of

afghan decent was arrested in july in afghanistan by the u.s. military. german officials say he left germany in march of last year seeking military training in pakistan. a law that punishes people about lying about being war heros. one here in california and a federal district court in colorado says it's unconstitutional on first amendment grounds. the law makes it a crime to falsely claim they won a military medal and violators would face up to a year in jail. they have asked the courts to reconsider their ruling. former president bill clinton will campaign. clinton plans to appear with both candidates at ucal -- ucla

on friday. clinton also hopes to help newsom. and former new york city mayor rudy giuliani campaigned for meg whitman. he endorsed whitman last year. whitman held positions on the campaigns of both myth romney and later john mccain. the white house is questioning the need for a nation-wide moratorium for foreclosures. four major banks have stopped foreclosure proceedings. banks have at times used inaccurate documents. the president's top advisor says although the flawed maker work is a serious problem there are valid foreclosures that should be allowed to go forward. the government is expected to announce social security recipients should not get a

cost of unemployment increase. that is the second time that there will be no raise. this year was the first time. more than 58 million americans get social security benefits every month. nearly 700 nurses at children's hospital in oakland plans to walk off the job tomorrow. the three-day strike is because of pay and other issues. children's hospital will remain open during that strike. time now 6:18. tara said the commute is awake now. how is lafayette? >> everybody is starting to get out of the house. highway 24 this is what we see all of the time if we take a look at our camera. yoke k see it's starting to get backed up as you make your way westbound. not gridlocked as it probably will be within the next hour. to the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see it's backed up a little bit there. if you have a fast track it's

be treated for smoke inhilllation. pg & e crews will reestablish the gas supply at a super market. they shut it off because of abnormal readings. the store on willow pass road was evacuated after a strong odor near a back room. they couldn't find a leak. the store was able to reopen. today the crews will try to fix whatever caused that abnormal gas reading. an increase in krill is being blame in the increase of whale deaths. researcherbelieve the tiny crustaceans might be leading them right into the paths of ships. the national marine sanctuary says it's working now on ways to reduce collisions between whales and ships. >> we are also learning the head of the aluminum plant that

spilled red toxic sludge in hungary has been detained by the police. they are closely watching the crack in theless i voir that isholding the remaining sludge. theless i voir is holding up but they are expecting it to give way again soon. also health authorities are warning the dust in that sludge is not safe. they are telling people to wear protective gear. time now 6:25 the 33 miners trapped in chile could make their way to the surface on wednesday. one man at a time in a rescue capsule. there is going 20 be a live video feed following the capsule on its way up. that's to help deal with any possible emergencies. >> we will start wednesday. that is what we are expecting now. the whole process should take something in the range of 48 hours. two days from the first rescue to the last rescue.

>> it's expected to take about 20 minutes each to bring the miners 2,000 feet to the surface. on the escape route that is filled with a lot of twists and turns. the miners will be given aspirin to prevent blood clots and a special drink to prevent nausea. gunfire erupted leaving two people dead. why it's proving to be especially difficult. and i'm paul chambers live in pinole for a warning to parents. the head of the nfl wants two pro football teams to team up.

part of world homeless day. about 100 people marched through to take over this hotel. we don't know how many protestors are still inside the building. we haven't heard of any problems or clashes. you can see police are there at the scene. they have taken over this hotel in san francisco as a part of the first world homeless day. we are looking at it live. we'll keep you posted open what happens there. also in the news right now 6:31 police in pinole are asking for witnesses to come forward about an attempted abduction of two young sisters. they say a has been tried to lure the girl into his vehicle. paul chambers is live. good morning paul. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we are near that intersection where the two young girls say the man tried to lure them in the vehicle. i spoke with pinole police they say they have very little to go on in this. they need all the help they can. now take a look at this sketch.

this is the police sketch that police are releasing. they say the man is described as an older white man with a gray goatee and a missing upper tooth. police say around 4:00 on friday afternoon the man approached two sisters ages five and ten as they walked near sunny view drive and knob hill avenue. the girls told police the man ordered them to get into the vehicle if they did not he would shoot their relatives. the man grabbed the five-year- old by the shirt. however the ten-year-old sister was able to pull her away. they ran off as the vehicle took off and loading down the road. here is the direction of the vehicle. that suspect is driving an older model four-door jeep with tinted windows. it had a rear mounted tire and a left headlight damage and license plate with the letter g and number five. if you have information about this case you are asked to all

police. we are waiting for the daylight to come around. this is a neighborhood watch place. we hope we can talk to neighbors who know anything about it. we are live in pinole. san leandro police are asking for for help. ally is live now at the police department with the latest on this investigate. >> reporter: good morning. their investigators have interviewed several people at this party and saw what happened. they do need more people more witnesses to come forward to give them information. the shooting happened a the the monarch bay golf course. it happened at the wedges restaurant which is on the golf course. that restaurant rents out space for private parties. shies shooting happened during one of the private events.

around 10:00 tabun fire rang out. four people were shot all of the victims were men between the ages of 18 and 20 years old and two of the victims later died. the person who organized the private party told the restaurant something the party was for a family member and group of college age friends. police say the people at the party were between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. as many as 100 people attended. >> we are interviewing people that were there that night. we are looking for the public's help to come forward for people that were present at party to come forward to assist us. so we can bring justice so the families. >> reporter: and police are still looking for the shooting suspect. they are also trying to contact the person who paid for and organized this party. police say that person gave the restaurant manager a fake name and falsify the information in order to reserve the space. now later on this morning we'll have an unanimous number that

san leandro police want people to call. we'll have that on our website ktvu.com. reporting live. pahl low al toe -- palo alto police are investigating another burglary. the burglarrers broke in through a window stole a purse and wallet and a family car. the car was later recovered in the park but the suspects are on the loose. the burglaries are similar to other break ins. 6:35 the head of the nfl says it's time for the 49ers and the raiders to team up. nfl commissioner roger cadel says the bay area two pro football team should look into sharing a new stadium. both teams play in separate

football stadiums. santa clara would be the new site. growers in the napa valley are rushing the grape harvest along. the low temperatures delayed the harvest by three weeks. growers say if they can beat the coming frost, the grapes will have the potential to make great wine. the cool air makes the grapes develop less sugar. time now 6:36. tara says we have a problem in dublin. >> we have a traffic hazard. there is a utility truck that is blocking one of the lanes on 580 westbound near greenville road. it has its hazards on. it's hard to see. be aware of that if you're traveling through dublin. on the east bay we'll take a look here. traffic not too bad westbound. the headlight there is as you make your way toward concord. again no delays on the left

in the torture of three men that were targeted for being gay. two teenagers and a man were beaten and tortured by gang members that's leak within the suspect shouted antigay slurs during the attacks. eight suspects were arraigned yesterday on charge include robbery assault and sexual abuse. the san diego area elementary school where a man shut two young girls will reopen this morning. three construction workers tacked him and held him until police arrived. authorities have not revealed the motive for the shooting or any connection he may have had to that school. at least one of the victims have been released from the hospital. time now 6:44. the pumpkin festival starts this morning. in a couple of minutes the pumpkins will go on the scale

have psychological difficulties. earlier studies show kids could balance the activities with physical activities. students who drop out of college after a year are costing taxpayers billions of dollars. the american institute for research found that over five year period california spent nearly half a million dollars to educate college students that dropped out before their sophomore year. that's more than any other state. the federal government year ewed an additional $1 preponderate 5 billion in grants. come couples in love felt yesterday was the perfect day to get married. churches and other wedding venues were booked because people wanted to get married on october 10th, 2010 or 10-10-10. some of the couples took their vows at 10:00 a.m.. reportedly an estimated 32,000 weddings took place yesterday. that compared to 5,000 on october 10th of last year.
