good morning, paul. >> the police have little information. they need help.man that allegedly tried to lure two girls his jeep. he's described at older white man with a gray goatee and missing upper tooth. around 4:00 friday, he approached two sisters, ages 5 and 10 as they worked near sunnyvale and nobody hill. the man orbed them to get into his vehicle. if they did not, he would shoot their relatives. the girls went on to say the imagine grabbed the 5-year-old by the shirt, however, the 10-year-old sister jumped in and pulled the younger girl away. they ran away, and the convict took off heading down marlesta road. this is a description of the vehicle they say the suspects was driving. an older model four-door jeep with tinted windows, a rear mounted tire with the word why the jeep just on if. -- with the word "jeep" on it.

once again, the police say they have little to go on, and this, about this case, but there are a lot of houses in the area, they were hoping we could talk to parents and adults that were in the area at that time to get more information about this. if you have any information, police call pinole police. >> thank you. time is now 7:02. san police are trying to piece what led up to a deadly weekend shooting that left two dead. it happens standard monarch bay -- at the monarch bay golf course. we have the latest. >> reporter: good morning. san leandro doe police say investigators have enter -- san leandro police say they have interviews many. but haven't been able to get a lot of information, that may be because they have not

apprehended or identified a suspect in the shoot it continues. they think some of the witnesses may be fearing for their safety, and withholding some information, so the police have put up a call to the public to ask for more witnesses to come forward. this shooting happened saturday evening at the monarch bay golf course in the san leandro marina. it happened at the wedges restaurant. they rent out space for private parties. the police say around 10:00, gunfire rank out on the dance floor of a banquet room. four people were shot, all of the victims were men between the ages of 18 and 20. two of the victims later died at area hospitals. the person who organized this private party told the managers that the party was for a family member of his, and her group of college aged friends. police say the people at the party were between the ages of 16 and 25 years old, and investigators say there were as many as 100 people attending the party. again, at this point, police want more witnesses to come

somebody started shooting in the club. a 23-year-old man was critically injured, but now we're hearing word his condition has improved. his wounds are no longer considered life threatens. there's know description of the gunman and he remains on the loose. police are asking witnesses to come forward. we're following developing news in san francisco right now. police are standing guard it front of a vacant hotel that has been taken over by protestor. this is a live look, at larkin and eddy. the activists say they are doing this as part of the first world homeless day. yesterday, about 100 people marched through. you can see the banners. it's not clear how many protestors are still inside the building this morning. it's now been more than a months since that disaster in san bruno, and there's a new report raising concerns about the safety of pg and e pipelines and other parking lots of

northern california. the chronicle examed records between 2004 and 2009. those records show there was not a final on pg and e in that entire time. despite the fact that pg&e it more pipeline infractions than the rest of the state's major pipelines combined. also later today, cleanup crews are scheduled to wrap up their work at the site of last month's deadly pipeline explosion and fire. they have been out the past two weeks, removing contaminated soil and charred debris from the dozens of homes that were destroyed in disaster. scientists will test the soil for toxic substantial, like asbestos and other dangerous chemicals. those tests will help determine if it's safe to immediately rebuild in that community. the giants now just one win away from moving to the national league championship series. that's following san francisco's

and a vietnamese station. the firefighters union says the flames may have been spotted sooner, had a nearby station been open. but it's been closed since august because of a contract dispute. >> this is a tragedy as a result of a lack of adequate resources to adequately put fires out and respond to emergencies in the city. >> 49 firefighters have also been laid off. the mayor says it's because the union refuses to make any concessions required by the city. the young and the city are expected to return to the bargaining table sometime this week. time is 7:14. president obama is crisscrossing the in cam pan mode in the final weeks -- in campaign mode in the final weeks before the november elections. he is trying to keep democrats in control. >> reporter: good morning.

that's right, president obama has about three weeks here to get democrats fired up as he tries to keep control of congress. he follows up yesterday's rally in philadelphia, with two stops in florida later today. imploring democrats to get to the polls in november. >> our job is not yet done and the success of our mission is at stake right now. >> this morning, the president is meeting with some of the nation's mayors about his $50 billion plan to rebuild the nation's roads and bridges. he says it will boost the economy and jobs. but we interviewed minority leader john banor who is railing against government spending and says it's time to put republicans in charge. >> if we can earn back the majority, and i'm fortunate to be speaker of the house, things will be a lot different. >> president obama is targeting five states this week. he's going to be heading out

west to oregon and denver next week, no word on when he's going to be making another stop in california. reporting live from washington, d.c., ktvu. >> thank you. time now 7:15. former president bill clinton will campaign here in california for jerry brown and forgiven newsom, he plans to appear with both at ucla on friday, and and san jose state sunday. officials say it's a challenge to show an alliance after the republican candidate meg whitman used old footage in an old ad of clinton. he hopes to help newsom. the mayor is in a tight race for lieutenant governor. and former new york city mayor rudy guliani campaigned for meg whitman in los angeles yesterday. mr. guliani endorsed whitman last year, even though she did not support him in the presidential race.

it's only the second time since 1975 when the automatic adjustment took effect. there will be no raise. this year was the first time. more than 58 million americans get social security benefits every month. today, is columbus day, it's a holiday for many government employees, all federal offices and post offices are closed, along with most city and county offices, but state offices, they are open. most public transit also running on a regular weekday schedule, exempt for muni, which is using the non-school day schedule. also some banks will be closed. the music world is mourning the loss of a legendary soul singer. >> solomon burke died at the age of 70, his hits include cry to me, and everybody needs somebody

the hazmat crew did keep an eye on that incident. also this morning, pg&e crews will try to fix whatever caused that normal gas read -- and northern gas reading in a supermarket in concord. the store was evacuated yesterday because of reports of a strong odor near a back room. pg&e shut off the gas, but they couldn't find a leak. the story was reopened after firefighters gave the all-clear. san francisco has the highest gas prices in the 48 states, and are getting higher roading to the latest survey. the national average price for regular is $2.81, that's up $.08 from two week ago, and prices are higher in the bay area, with the average at $3.19 a gallon, and san jose and oakland, the average is $3.12. the prices are up between $.04 and $.07 a gallon from the end of last months. muni ridership is down in san francisco for the first time in

you police in san leandro are still trying to sort out what happened at a shooting during a party over the wind at a clubhouse that left two people. -- over the weekend at a clubhouse that left two people dead. we have the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: good morning. san leandro police say what they need are more witnesses to come forward and give them more

information. the police say they have interviewed several people who were at this party and saw the shooting, however, those witnesses haven't given them as much information, haven't given investigators as much information as they would like. the shooting happened at the monarch bay golf course near the san leandro marina at the wedges restaurant. it rents out space for private parties, and this shooting happened during a private event on saturday night. san leandro police say around 10:00, gunfire rang out. two victims later died at area hospitals. the person who organized this private party told the restaurant managers that it was for a family member and her college aged friends, and police say most of the people at the party were between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. as many at 100 people attended the event. >> we are interviewing people that were there.

murder. the couple were arrested saturday in downtown value hoe. police believe they may have be connected to the shooting death of nick stanley. his body was found on august 8. a man in watsonville was stabbed several times while getting his haircut. the 20-year-old man was stabbed on his face, abdomen, and hand in this attack on saturday. the victim claimed the attacker and four other men with him were all gang members. palo alto police are investigating now home burglary, the third one in recent months. this one happened in the 1100 block of hamilton avenue friday night. police say the burglars got into a window, stole a purse, a wallet, and the family's car. that car was later recovered, but the suspects they are still

at large. police sat the burglaries are similar to other break-ins, one on hamilton. the other on waverlily street. a report raises concerns about the safety of pg&e pipelines. we have more on this story. >> reporter: good morning. yes, the san bruno neighborhood will see an important milestone, the cleanup is to be completed today. and then streets can be opening in getting days. this is all happening at new information comes in about pg&e, the pipelines and the investigation. let's first talk about pg&e. the chronicle records between 2004 and 2009, those records indicate that puc did not impose any fines on pg&e during that five year span, and that despite the fact that pg&e had more pipeline infractions than the rest of california's major pipelines combined. pg&e in the meantime is

insisting that safety is their top priority, and hope that motorized cameras will give a better through on what wept wrong with the gas line that explosioned. remote control cameras have been sent into the poop lines, looking at the section of pipe between -- sent into the mine lines, looking at the section of pipe. that pipeline stretches about two thirds of a mile of either direction. the images are being captured and third with the national transportation safety board. pg&e is deciding whether to rebuild that pipe. but now, residents are getting natural gas from other lines in the area. we talked about that cleanup. while residents are waiting for investigators to do their work, work to get back the neighborhood does continue. crews are ahead of schedule and hope to finish clearing the lots. they spend the last couple of weeks removing contaminated soil from 35 home sites. scientists have done complete

separate football stadiums. santa clara would be the most likely choice nor a new joint stadium. last june, voters in that city approved a plan to build a new $900 million stadium for the 49ers. the congestion pricing strategy seems to be working. more solo drivers are avoiding the bridge during the busiest weekday hour to avoid the high toll prices. it is $6 during commute hours, that's $2 higher than other times. many drivers are now crossing before or after the commute hours, hand are ditching their cars for bart. the average bay bridge commute has gone from 27 minutes though 24 minutes during key morning hours. >> it does work. let's go to tara. what happened in oakland? >> we have an accident near the oakland coliseum, so we want to take a live look and show you exactly what we're talking about. 880 southbound, two car crash.

contests. the weigh-off has already begun, and this is under way. we saw a pumpkin that weighed, that was 317 pounds. for that 37 years, the pumpkin weigh-off has been taking off here, and this is something they don't take lightly. john cut his big beauty around 5:30. last year, a 1658-pound you pumpkin won. it hailed from iowa. [ indiscernible ] will not be attending this year's contest, that isn't bad news for those here. joining us is cameron, you know all in a is about pumpkins. >> well, living in half moon bay, you don't have a choice, it's fun times and orange everywhere. >> and talk about some activities, this is a huge fund-raiser.

shooting deaths of two people in a gulf clubhouse over the weekend. we are live with the latest on this investigation. >> reporter: good morning. san leandro police say they need more people that were at the party to come forward and give them more information about what happened. police say the investigators are interviewed several witnesses who were at the party, but they haven't been able to gather as much information as they would like from the witnesses, and police suspect that may be because the suspect in the shooting has not been apprehended. the shooting happened at the monarch bay golf course near the san leandro marina at the wedges restaurant. it rents out space for private parties, and this happened during a private party on saturday night. san leandro police say around 10:00, gunfire rang out on the dance floors of a banquet room. four people were shot. all victims were men between the ages of 18 and 20. and two later died at area

researchers have solved the mystery to explain why there's been a big jump in the number of whale deaths in northern california this year. research believe an increase in krill, tiny crustaceaning in the water, might be leading the whales into the paths of ships at least six whales have been killed since july. it was working on ways to reduce collision between whales and ships. two americans were among the three winners of the nobel prize in economics.
