police had to break in to get inside. that was about an hour ago. now, what happened was last evening about 20 people protesting the plight of the homeless -- [ inaudible ] good afternoon. we begin this noontime with new details about the event where two people were fatally shot at a golf clubhouse. it happened at the monarch bay golf course near the san leandro marina saturday night. it turns out the organizer was got truthful about the type of event that was taking place that night. allie rasmus joins us now with more. good afternoon, allie. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. that shoots happening on a restaurant at the monarch bay golf course.

the wedges restaurant had rented out one of its banquet rooms for what was supposed to be a birthday party. police say that's not the case. they say the organizer of the event advertised this and charged people $10 to attend and it was not a family gathering. this was a promoted party. invitations were sent out to numerous people that spread throughout the bay area, via ward of roof. they were anticipated there would somewhere between 300 and 600 attendees. >> reporter: and police say only about 125 people showed up. most of them between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. around 10:00, someone opened fire on the dance floor of the ban kit room. four people were shot. the victims were between the ages of 18 and 20 years old. two victims died at nearby hospitals later that night. police say the party promoter did have four state licensed private security guards at the

door. partygoers told police that security seemed pretty tight. police say these type of promoted parties typically happen at clubs or bars, not golf courses. >> it's the first that i've heard of it. i understand that there are other agencies within the east bay here that have had similar type attempts to have parties at golf courses within the past few months. but have been turned away. >> reporter: police have not been able to locate or speak with the party promoter yet. they still haven't identified a shooter and haven't recovered any weapons. an autopsy of the two young men killed has been scheduled for tomorrow. police still want anyone who has attended this party to give them a call and provide them information that they have about what happened. they say people can call the department and remain anonymous. we have the number on our weeks. reporting live in san leandro, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, allie. santa rosa police are

investigating a death. a male body was found in franklin park this morning. investigators say there were no obvious signs of trauma. they say the man appeared to be in his 50. the park is a popular gathering spot for the home les. during the past half hour, san francisco police moved into a vacant hotel occupied by the homeless. the group had had been there since a march and rally yesterday marking the first annual homeless day. police stood outside the building overnight but now they are taking action. rob roth has the details. good afternoon, rob. >> reporter: hi, tori. we're on eddie street in san francisco's tenderloin. police have cordoned off about a three-mile stretch. light now, a dozen officers are in this gray building. they just conducted a floor-by- floor, room-by-room search. police had had to break in to get inside. that was about an hour ago.

last evening about 20 people protesting the plight of the homeless. the protesters were squatting inside to make a statement that san francisco has enough vacant space to house every homeless person in the city. >> we have a situation where families are living in garages. they are living in hotels. they are living doubled up with other families. they are living in cars. literally, thousands of families in san francisco that do not have a regular place to call home. >> police are now just telling us that only three people were inside. they are being arrested for trespassing. police say the other squatters who were in earlier apparently left this morning. police say also had the stairwells were blocked with debris and tape. officers are inside checking room by room and attesting the damage. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, rob. it is another hot day for the bay area and there's an

alert about fire danger. mark tamayo joins us from the weather center, with a look at the current temperatures. hi, tori. you will notice the temperature change with temperatures already at this 12:00 hour in the 70s and 80s. just updated these numbers. san francisco downtown already, 78 degrees. look at the 80s for santa rosa. fairfield, san jose, 82 degrees. winds are beginning to clock out of the north to northeast. as a result that's a typical offshore flow which typically increases the fire danger. that will be a concern for today and also into tomorrow and wednesday. as a result, we have this, a red flag warning posted for the north bay hills and the east bay hills. that lasts until 6:00 wednesday morning. offshore winds could be gusting to right around 40 miles an hour. humidity levels right around 15 to 120%. this -- 20%. this is just the beginning of our warmup. coming up wile have the warmest

[ cheers ] >> reporter: we speak to this year's winner before the weighoff even began this morning. he's from citrus heights. he told us he was recuperating from surgery when he saw the contest and decided to attempt it years ago. it first time, his pumpkin didn't turn out the way he wanted but he never gave out. >> just a passion. i saw it on tv and there was a local contest. so i went there and it just consumes you. you grow them and you just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger. it's crazy what we do, the amount of time we spend. >> reporter: the 37th annual

weighoff kicks off half moon bay's art and festival this weekend. about 60 pumpkins were entered. the event has become one of the biggest fund-raisers for the area. it draws tourists and even growers from outside the state. >> we don't have this down south. it's a feel-good thing. >> this is the first time the kids have come with us, and so they are really enjoying seeing the fruits of their labor. >> reporter: this year, $500 prizes went out to the most beautiful pumpkin. that's what you are looking at right there. the biggest pumpkin from california and the biggest pumpkin from the coast side. the winner took home more than $10,000. that's right. he gets $6 per pound and an extra $1,000 for being from california. we're live here at the weighoff. it's all finished up. there are the little ones to the big ones to the adults.

police in pinole are urging people to be on alert after two young girls reported that a man tried to abduct them. the sisters, aingeed 5 and 10, told police they were walking near sunnyvale and nob hill, when the man told the girls to get in the car or he would shoot their relatives. the girls ran away. this has people in the area on edge. >> my daughter has a cell

sunshine and some warm temperatures as high pressure continues to strengthen. it really kicks in tomorrow. as a result, the offshore flow will be strongest as you head into tuesday. for tomorrow we're talking about 80s for 90s -- or 90s. fire danger goes up. that's why we have the red flag warning posted for tonight. that's for the north bay hills and the east bay hills. >> we also have this -- this is a heat watch posted for san francisco from tuesday through late wednesday. typically, san francisco is not that warm. but basically targets the youth and the elderly and the temperatures with the readings in the 80s. for today, you can see the time line throughout the day. warm to hot at 3:00. by 6:00, mostly clear and warm. by the 9:00 hour, clear and

eastern span. it's a more ecofriendly structure. the new digs are scheduled to open in 2012. the price tag is coming out of bridge tolls. george miller and john garamendi is participating in a protest of federally mandated trees. they gathered at wildcat creek where federal flood inspectors want 1,000 trees cut down. no vegetation policy has been around for decades. but federal officials are enforcing it more rigorously since hurricane katrina. they say a tree can fall and damage a levee. >> you may want to go into areas like this and do some selective cutting to provide a better flood path but you dote want to be be dah -- but you don't want to strip them. >> garamendi says this in some ways they could strengthen the

levees. if the federal government goes through with the plan, california are lose 3,000 miles of vegetation. homeowners would be required to buy flood insurance. there is a call for the bay area's two professional teams to share a home. the trapped miners in south america are days from freedom. we have details that's good news for the rescue operation.

nearly 700 nurses at children's hospital in oakland plan to walk off the job tomorrow morning. the three-day strike is tied to an ongoing dispute regarding pay, benefits and other issues. administrators say children's hospital will remain open during the strike. those 33 trapped coal miners in chile could start to make their way to the surface wednesday. the plans are to bring one man up at a time in a rescue capsule. that was tested this morning. it will take them 20 minutes to bring each miner up. the miners will be given aspirin to prevent blood hots and -- blood clots and a special drink donated by nasa. the head of the nfl says

the bay area's two pro football teams should consider sharing a new stadium. both teams currently play in aging and separate football teams. dollar would be the most likely choice for a new joint stadium. last june voters in that city approved a plan to build the new stadium for the 49ers. google is road testing cars that stop, steer and by themselves. the cars have already put 10,000 miles on california streets, highways and freeways. there is a backup driver in case there is a problem. but so far there's only been one accident when another driver ran into a car at a stoplight. the cars uses sensors and lasers to detect other cars. we're keeping an eye on two developing stories today, the takeover of a hotel by homeless advocates, police are inside
