at noon. good afternoon. i'm gasia mikaelian. tori campbell has the day off. within the last hour, we got new details from investigators. crews responding to a fire found twin 3-year-old girls dead inside their home at an apartment complex on north texas street. jade hernandez is live with more. >> no one can understand why and police can't say what may have pushed a mother to kill her own children but this afternoon they did explain what led up to the fire, which firefighters responded to across the street from a fairfield fire station. the fire strucks arrived after a few neighbors tried to get inside the burning apartment.

>> the firefighters discovered the bodies of the twin girls inside. they were stabbed and cut. the mother also had injuries but those wounds, police say were self-inflicted. police are investigating this as a murder-suicide. >> it's sad. i wish it never would have happened. >> reporter: investigators pulled evidence from the apartment early this morning. twin beds could be seen from inside the garage. >> this was a horrific scene. our officers are also fathers and are very sensitive to the fact -- one of the most difficult things for us to see is the senseless loss of

children. moody was very emotional when he gave this update about an hour ago. we know this mother relocated to fairfield for a job. we know that there is a father, but we don't know where he is. at this point, we still don't know if this mother will survive. she's in critical condition. she's 28 years old. again, police say that they may have another update for us at 4:30 this afternoon. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, jade. oakland police say they are looking looking for a man who robbed a supermarket this morning. investigators say the man walked into the lucky's on macarthur boulevard near 40th around 10:00 a.m. and acted as if he had a gun. he ran from the store and got into a gold-colored car. he got away with about $2,000 in cash. >> i've never heard of anyone robbing here. >> especially in the dey time,

matter. they aren't gonna stop what they are doing. >> reporter: the area here includes telegraph to the east and 580 freeway to the south. today, chief batts and the city attorney went to court to ask for the same type of injunction in another part of the neighborhood. >> they are responsible for hundreds of violent crimes, including robbers, attempted murders, robberies, assaults and shootings. residents and businesses have been caught in the middle of a decade's old firefight. >> we're not gonna back off. we as a city, we as a police department will not back off. >> reporter: russo says the gang has been involved in 35 shootings just this year. the request would prevent them

coal mine. tara moriarty in our newsroom with the latest. >> well, we've seen the dramatic scene unfolding all morning long. crews plucking coal miners out. these are live pictures of the efforts. the 20th miner just made it to the top a moment ago. he's been reunited with his family. there's been concern about a sudden drop in blood pressure as the men are being pulled up. but so far there have been no injuries. now, the crowd chanted and cheered as the 16th miner was extracted just before 9:00 this morning. 27-year-old daniel was greeted by his mother. all of the 33 men trapped underground are being hoisted

up from a very narrow cage. once they reach the top, you can see the tearful reunions with their families. now, the second man to be rescued this morning, handed out rocks from the mine for people to keep as souvenirs as sewer vile. he's being nicknamed the rock star. the other miner was greeted by his wife, son and the president of chile. >> translator: he told meal of his gratitude. the gratitude that not only he felt, but the gratitudes towards chileans they felt from the first moment they knew they weren't alone. construction on new homes in the fire zone of san bruno could be underway in months. the city is waiving the permit fees. but some fire survivors say they are not so sure they want to rebuild there, especially if the pg&e line exploded remains in their neighborhood. robert gates is coming out a against a court ruling that abruptly ends the military's don't ask/don't tell policy. he says yesterday's ruling by the appeals court in san francisco will have enormous consequences for the military. he says that issue should be decided by congress after the pentagon completes a study of the issue. in the meantime, there might be

advisory out. a cooler weekend is on tap. ocean beach is at 68. yesterday, they were in the 80s. not today, even though it's sunny. the marina at 72. dolores mark is at 80. twin peaks at 82 degrees. there are some warm temperatures. some are slightly cooler. the high is building north. it's right on top of it us. highway one you might have issues driving with reduced visibility. but otherwise, fog doesn't have much of a chance. but that should kind of alleviate itself by tonight or tomorrow. napa this morning was 48. that's why we're losing the wind. it will still be hot but not as hot as yesterday. 90 walnut creek. there is a little west wind at 3 miles an hour. that wasn't there yesterday. 82 officially in santa rosa.

everyone is really close. livermore/concord, 85. san jose, 85. palo alto, 81. temperatures in the desert, hot, near 100. but 70s, 80s through the interior and then there's the fog. it's starting to move north. you see the system to the left of your screen? that will give us a cooling trend. there is a little bit of fog on the coast. you don't have to find very hard to go. temperatures may not be cool enough for some of you. by the coast a lot of 50s and 60s unless you are on the marin and snow gnaw coast. then it's sunny and warmer. nice and hot. the fog is on its way and cooler for everybody by friday and into the weekend. >> thank you, steve. >> you bet. in san francisco it's day one of a six-day strike by hundreds of hotel workers. >> what do we want!

wall street. we got an update from china and stocks are having a good day all around. all 50 states and the district of columbia joined in on the allegations that banks broke laws in the foreclosure laws. the documents will be looked at closely. employees have already acknowledged that they signed off on documents before reading them. well, it was an attention- grabbing stunt in los angeles that may have background. a orange county rock band held a jam session right in the middle of the 101. they parked their struck, as can see here, and they played a sock called "traffic jam" while up on the roof. it wasn't long before they were swarmed by police officers and arrested. coming up at 5:00, it came a month after the explosion,
