a quarter mile of visibility. we have 40s. end up with fog hanging out by the coast. 60s there. as the fog pushes off inland we'll have 70s. now here is sal. right now the fog you medical examinerred here is thick on the east -- the fog you mentioned here is on the east shore freeway. it might make it hard to drive in some areas. the toll plaza here that traffic looks good. overnight crews cleared an overturned tanker. all lanes are back open. tanker flipped yesterday afternoon just south of toyota creek golf drive. three lanes were blocked for hours. the tanker was carrying 43,000 pounds of liquid wax that had to be transferred to another truck. one of the wheels of the big

rig lifted off the ground but was able to get it moved. drugs and alcohol were not a factor. at 6:00 -- and part of the san mateo bridge is back open following overnight road work. two westbound lanes were closed so caltran crews could be on anticorrosive paint on the steal beam. 6:00. let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. other top story police are searching for two men that robbed restaurants at gunpoint. targeted restaurants that are four miles apart. good morning. >> good morning, pam. you have to imagine these must have been terrifying moments for the employees here at the round table. two armed men came in here looking for money. it happened here and happened

at a subway. now police are looking into the possibility these are also connected to several other robberies in the area. let's talk about what happened last night at the round table. it happened just before 9:00 here on the 2100 block. police say the robbers walked in wearing hooded sweatshirts. one carrying a shotgun another pistol. they ordered employees to the ground and took money from the safe. less than 45 minutes later. police believe the same men did the same thing at the subway restaurant on the 4900 block of concord boulevard. when men came into that restaurant were wearing masks and gloves. at this point it does not appear anyone was hurt. news of the robbery scares them. >> i probably won't be walking home anymore. at least not for awhile. i don't want to get caught up in any of this stuff. i don't want to be robbed. if i was ever in the way

because i walk through here at night. i wouldn't want to get in trouble. >> reporter: police did search the area but did not find the people responsible. there have been according to police that we have talked to several other robberies in this area in recent weeks. and at this point police believe they might all be connected. they believe these two people might be responsible for those as well. they say the transcriptions are very similar. it happened around the same time of night. so they are certainly look into that possibility. we do not have a description of the robbers this morning. in one of the robberies they were wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts. we do have a description of a dark colored suv leaving the area. we have been putting in calls to concord police. this morning muni officials say they believe a

malfunctioning signal has been fixed. they are expecting normal conditions today. the problem first surfaced during yesterday morning commute and caused 30 minute delay for riders. >> it's a traffic signal that is not reporting to central control or the terrains. we're forced to run in manual mode. >> in the meantime muni is warning people to expect big crowds today because of the giants game. >> there could be a giant flu going around the giant area today. many are tempted to skip work to watch the series. paul chambers is outside at & t park. you get to work and be part of the game. >> i know. it's a god job today. you have to be happy when that happens. it's going crazy around the bay area. you'll see a lot of this today. let's go giants. giants fans are excited. they haven't been in this position eight years. i talked to a couple of fans

today. alison burns is covering that story for us in our washington, d.c. newsroom. good morning allyson. >> reporter: good morning to you. the obama administration is asking the judge to change her mind. arguing that abruptly allowing gays to serve openingly in the military will hurt military moral. it's asking the judge today to hold off on list lifting that ban -- lifting that ban. president obama has vowed to end the don't ask don't tell policy. advocates for gays like anthony woods who was discharged after coming out should let the judges ruling stand. >> i don't think we should waste taxpayer dollars. >> reporter: she is not likely to change her mind so it looks like this case is going to keep going through the appeals

process possiblely all the way up to the u.s. supreme court. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns. >> president obama is coming to san francisco on thursday as part of a nation-wide come pain for democrats -- campaign for democrats. he will appear at a fundraiser for the democratic committee. harris worked on the president's campaign in 2008. now traffic in san francisco thursday afternoon can be a bit challenging. president obama is scheduled to arrive along with his motorcade and security right around the same time the giants playoff game start at 4:30. >> we will work with the coast guard. the san francisco police. our partners with muni and department of parking and traffic and safeguard that folks have a good time. >> president obama is expected to stay over in san francisco

thursday night and then leave on friday to travel to southern california to campaign for senator barbara boxer. vice president joe biden will be in san francisco today to attend a campaign event for senator boxer. at 6:00 this evening. governor swats neigher used his weekly radio address if criticize oppositions. governor described sitting in his office at 2 in the morning as lawmakers voted on the various budget bills. he was shocked when the pension reform bill stalled because some republicans who's votes he counted on opposed the bill. >> this pension reform battle i expected organize zed laters to oppose me. since democrats had dated labor. but what i was really surprised about the republican also imped the same unions. >> the governor went on to

question where republicans oppose the pension reform bill did so because they received significant campaign contributions. tonight the ikea retail chain is looking for city approvals to open its warehouse in its emeryville store. people who live in that neighborhood are worried about noise and traffic. it will chuck material into the building. seven-days a week between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 at night. the city council is expected to vote on the idea tonight. >> drivers using the bay bridge this week will see the next major step in construction of the new eastern span. the second tower will be put in the next few days. the fist section was put in place last summer. there are a total of five sections. work on the eastern fan is expected to wrap up in 2013.

time is 6:16 let's go to sal. traffic is actually doing pretty well around the bay area. as we looks at the bay bridge traffic still looks light. this morning's commute on the golden gate bridge. it looks like fog. and this morning's drive on the peninsula 101 and 280 looking pretty good. it's getting busy now. you can see slow traffic on highway 92. see that red there heading up weeks. that's partially due to that thick fog there getting up in half-moon bay. we don't have any major crashes there. watch for fog in that area. now let's go back to steve. >> good morning everyone. we'll have a lot of fog. there is areas where visibility is not very good. a quarter mile or less.

highway one along the bay. airport reports a quarter mile. you can see the fog stacking up on the coast. it's very shallow and will not last very long. but it will be there. temperatures are chilly even if you have the fog. twin peaks 49. we have low 50s as well. 50s, 60s and toys. that is much warmer air than high pressure is building in. that's squashing that fog. pleasant hill is 47. santa rosa is 49. 60s and 70s today. no problems today. we'll have fog but nothing we haven't dealt with were. temperatures in the 60s there. and game three looks good to go. and same for tomorrow. i think we will be the same.

mostly sunny and cloud it up late thursday. possibility of light rain on friday. time now 6:18 san francisco decision to close the park is getting okay from neighbors. right now visitors can be in the park at any hour but they're not allowed to sleep there. if the park were closed police can arrest loiters. now they are issued a citation and ordered to appear in court. the owner and manager of a san francisco printing company are expected to surrounder to police because of the death of a pregnant woman. prosecutors charged the owner and manager because of

involuntary manslaughter. >> the national business association travels to work is 5.5%. the group says that will increase more than 4% next year. companies are looking to keep costs down and buying eats in coach. this morning a commerce department reports new construction of homes expanded for the third month in a row. housing starts for a three tenths. it's also much stronger than analysts predicted. however building permits which is a leading indicator of housing construction to come fell 5.6% which is the lowest rate since april of last year. . >> the major airlines want to move federal air marshals out of o of first class seething. putting the marshalls in first class is a waste of money.

so marshals will be more useful for the back of the plane. air marshals object to the airline request saying it makes public tack tickets they use. there may be an easy way out. the deal pg&e is of everying homeowners. more facebook fallout. why the social network privacy concerns is drawing attention on the capitol. that that traffic is getting busy.

hearing. today's hearing will focus on the maintenance of the pipeline and how similar tragedies can be prevented in the future. . >> there is now word pg&e is offering to buy out san bruno fire victims that houses were destroyed in today's chronicle reports those that fail -- pg&e offer comes in response to worries of many people living near the site of the explosion. police say oakland was free of dangerous side show gathering this morning for the first time in 25 years. chief anthony bass made that announcement last night at a community leader. city leaders and teenagers gathered to talk about alternatives to side shows. some teens asked for more services to keep them off the street. >> we need more organized

activities. we need organized activity. when we leave here from a friday night, we don't want to go home. we want to go to an organized activity. >> police say they used extra patrols so crack down on the side shows. over the years there has been a number of people killed and injured. two u.s. congressmen are demanding answers from facebook about how the social networking site handles its user information. a new comes after the wall streets journal report found several applications have been transmitting users personal information to advertising and internet tracking companies. facebook says it's working to fix the problem and the leaks were unintentional. facebook users are urged to check their applications. >> turn offer the one warehouse don't feel the need for anymore. as long as they are on the authorized list they can still access information. >> all ten of the most popular

and the floor of the new york stock exchange. a lot of herbings coming in this morning. the banking sector has been the foe us overnight. and good morning. thanks for joining us on ktvu channel 2 morning news. it's tuesday october 19th. dave clark has the day off. >> time now is 6:30. and police are searching for two gunman that targeted a pair of restaurants. robberies took place near closing time last night. claudine wong is in concord with more on the crime. >> reporter: good morning. we are in front of this round table where one of the robberies happened. it closes at 10:00 on monday nights. last night an hour before they were ready to lock up their doors two men came barging in armed with guns. the same thing happened four miles away from here at a subway. police believe the men responsible may be responsible for similar crimes.

this all happened as employees in the building. we're not sure if there were customers a the the time. it was just before 9:00. police say the robbers walked in wearing hooded sweatshirts. they ordered the employees to get on the ground and took money from the safe and register before leaving. less than 45 minutes later they did the same thing. there they took cash from the register and also took off. during that robbery we know they were wearing masks and gloves. at this point it does not appear anyone was hurt. residents say it's certainly scary for everyone in the neighborhood. >> it's more concerning that i go to these places and i eat at these places. what if i'm in one of these places or one of my friends were there. these people come in and do shoot somebody. >> reporter: police searched the area but did not find the

suspects. we have learn that this is the latest in a string of robberies that this area has seen at restaurants over several weeks. police do believe that the same people could be responsible for olitories because the descriptions are the same. the times these robberies are happening are also the same. they're looking into that. we do not have a description of the robbers again in one of these instances they were wearing a mask. at this point we only know they were leaving in a dark colored suv. we've been talking to concord police to get any updates. we'll keep you updated. tonight the oakland city council will look at complaints that some internet cafes around the city may be fronts for illegal gambling. >> are you gambling in there? >> nope. >> what are you doing? >> minding my own business. >> one of the suspected locations is durant square on international boulevard. three weeks ago the owner was

served with a cease and desist order. it seems the operation is still going strong. >> does it look like bingo? >> no. >> what does it look like? a slot machine? >> yeah. >> the city attorney's office says it will listen to complaints about the cafe at tonight's meeting and take action if necessary. this morning police in synura fell are looking for two carjacking suspects. they carjacked a minny van just before so that's night. now police believe the two carjackers they still be driving the stolen minivan temperature it's described as a blue-green masada with california license plate 6cim754. san jose police have launched an investigation after an officer crashed his patrol car into a pedestrian.

the victim is a 63-year-old man. he was crossing santa clara street last night when he was hit. we're not sure what his condition is. police say they don't know if the victim was in the crosswalk. this afternoon the giants host the philadelphia phillies in game three of the national league championship series. it is the biggest baseball game in san francisco in years. ktvu paul chambers joins us live from outside at & t park. any fans moving around out there, paul? >> yes, they are. we're outside at & t park. we're outside the public house. fans got up early. there they are. the giants fans behind me. they are on cue. it's been a long day coming. let's take a live look at the ballpark. of course this is where it will all take place later today. it's a big deal. giants fans will pack the house and they will get ready for that 1:19 game. matt cain is on the mound for the giants and 2008 world

see. we see some slow traffic. it took a little while. into concord watch for slow traffic. westbound 4 for chicago there is a not injury accident in that area. so watch for it. that's what could be causing some of the slow traffic. also this morning's commute at the toll plaza is slow. we've had a couple of stalled vehicles. one in the treasure island tunnel. things have been pretty slow. and this morning's commute on the livermore valley a lot of road sensors beginning to turn red and yellow here. and then in the south bay traffic is beginning to wake up fortunately on the south bay freeways. 6:39 let's go back to steve. >> thank you very much. we do have lot of fog around. it won't be that much of an issue for the game today and 60s on game time temperature.

wild pigs. they are tearing up their property and have been shot and killed. jade hernandez is in clayton where neighbors say they were disturbed by gunshots. >> good morning. we're live at the country club this morning. you're right. we've been told by an employee that hunters were out here this morning and pigs have torn apart the golf course. especially hole number 16. that employee did not want to go on camera. we are tracking down the golf course superintendent. we're looking a at wild bore in month ray six years ago. this is similar to the site golfers have seen here. the lush green grass is too i cystable. the appetite could end up killing them. the country club is paying to have hunters track down the pigs and shoot them on site as long as those pigs are away from residents homes. neighbors have reported hearing gunshots in the area and they have reported the noises six they didn't know what was going

on. golf course management says wild pigs are tearing up the golf terrain and fences have not kept them out. this is a serious matter and we're attempting to get ahold of the authorities here. as soon as we do we will let you know what they have to say. a chilean miner known as super mario is giving details about the time he spent under ground. when he was rescued mario emerged from the mine with a bag full of rocks shouting joy. he says during the first 17 days before the miners were found, they feared they would starve to death. he also says stories men had sex with each other or thought about cannibalism are not true. he decided to give the interview despite the secrecy pact. he wanted to set the record

straight. president obama will sign a major initiative at boosting academic achievement. the initiative began 20 years ago under george bush and renewed by bill clinton and george w. bush. president obama says improving the education will help the economy compete. math and science by making an appearance of myth busters. the president has already taped the appearance which is set to air on the discovery channel december 8th. myth busters is taped here in the bay area. former nfl line backer junior seu told investigators he fell asleep before driving off a cliff in the san diego area. a lack of skid marks leading up to where the suv plunged off the cliff seemed to support the claims. and they say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved. the 41-year-old was rushed to

the hospital just hours before the accident. he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. let's go back over to sal to check in on the commute. any problem spots? >> no, the bridge is a little bit slow. we had a couple of problems on the bridge. we have highway 4 that is going to be slow because of a crash in port chicago which is just west of this picture. you should look at the traffic. usually isn't this slow. sometimes it's crowded. it's not this slow getting up to the westbound. they're clearing an accident. didn't sound like it was serious. as i look at it clear it looks like it has been gone. the traffic is still a little bit slow unfortunately getting over to concord. bay bridge i mention that. it's slow because of an earlier stalled vehicle. someone's car broke down in a tunnel. the metering lights were slow. 15 minutes waiting in line before you make it on the

bridge. and this morning's drive on 280 northbound getting up to highway 17 it will be okay. i forgot to mention it again today in san francisco it will be crazy traffic because of that playoff game. bringing in your car into san francisco may not be the best thing we do recommend you take public transportation. now let's go to steve. >> thank you. good morning to you all. we have a lot of fog. it won't matter when we get to game time. fog and sun a little breezy. overall temperatures warming up away from the coast. the low that is responsible for our rain on sunday is now in southern california giving them off and on rain showers in very cool temperatures. high pressure is our fair weather friend for a couple of days. continuing to move up the coast. it will hang out there tomorrow. temperatures on the cool side. twin peaks upper 40s as well. diamond heights at 50. outer ridge 51. financial district at 52. if you're getting the children
