we don't want to get ahead of ourselves but it's just hard to believe the giants just two victories away from going to the world series against either the yankees or texas and two home games coming up in a row here at at&t. giants got it done tonight, who else cody moss. it's a quick 1-0 lead. as it turns out that would be enough for matt cain but it wasn't easy. he was masterful going 7 innings getting out of a jam here in the seventh. getting sean victorino to ground out. then ryan wilson coming in to knock it down not ninth. getting ibanez to get a ground

play. that was it for the victory. 3-0. it was a team that is coming together in all phases right now. after ward, the man who rung up the save talks about the chemistry and all the changes on this roster that have melded into one solid unit. >> we've had a few key additions this year to help boost our team. but you know, that's the kind of ignorance i have in spring training thinking we have the best team. we knew we had spring pitching we knew we had good line up. we just had to play together. that's what we're doing, we're taking october and playing as a team. which is helping out a lot. >> reporter: very good vibes going on in the giants clubhouse as they shake off any ill effects of sunday's defeat. outside the fans are living it up as well they should be and mike mibach has the rest of the story from out here at at&t, mike. >> reporter: not a bad day to

be at the ballpark, not bad at all. it was a sell out crowd, standing room only. some of the folks in attendance still hanging out here having a celebratory drink. they're celebrating as their giants put another one in the books. the ballpark filled with orange and black, fans dancing on shoulders, dancing in their seats, this was game three of the nlcs. >> you can just feel it out here. 1:15 in the afternoon, it was nothing like out there in philly, you can feel it. it's our time. it's our time. one more. let's go giants. >> reporter: the 23,000 plus were loud but early on, the ballpark felt a bit tense. the first three frames in the game were scoreless.

hours. game four set for tomorrow. reporting live mike mibach out here in san francisco. well many fans showed up with no ticket to get in the game. a lot of fans said they just wanted to be there to catch the excitement. others headed to local bars to watch the game with their friends. outside of the ballpark, some friends took to the water hoping to catch a stray ball or a glimpse of the game on a picture perfect day. giants fever has led to new homes for kitties. the humane society has been adopting out orange and black cats for $9 instead of the $90 fee for cats and 100 for kittens. we are looking for photos

from giants fans. if you have any you want to share go to ktvu.com and click orange october. and state senators met to discuss ways to improve pipelines in south california. they say they might have to lift fines. one of the first to testify is the mother of jessica morales who died in the explosion. >> this for me is a huge loss. i can only hope and pray that we continue to find the right answers to make this right. >> state senators were highly critical of the california public utilities commission for its oversight of pg & e's pipeline operations. the utility company has had

shifted $5 million for the pipeline that exploded, but it was for different part of the pipeline than the one that exploded. legal action comes just days after the utility began making direct offers to victims impacted by the inferno. patti lee has more on today's developments. >> reporter: julie, those individual losses were filed just this morning here in san mateo county and the majority of plaintiffs were right here along the epicenter of blast. you can see yellow, red and green tags on houses that are still standing. those color codes to be used down the line by pg & e. he says he could take pg & e's money to rebuild it but he won't. >> why would i rebuild in an area that has the same pipe running through it. >> reporter: pg & e is offering different options for residents in the area.

$10,000 for moderately damaged homes. buy outs and plans to rebuild for those hardest hit. with bonuses for those who sell quickly or finish fast. >> they have time limits but in no way are we rushing people. >> these programs make no sense to me. how can you give someone an incentive to rebuild there without knowing what happened. each one has experienced their own horror movie. >> reporter: the goals compensation of course but also to force pg & e to remove the natural gas line. for many it is the only way this neighborhood will be able to move forward from the tragedy. >> i don't want what happened to us to happen to anybody else. >> reporter: the drama surrounding this tragedy may intensify in the next two weeks. pg & e is scheduled to address the communities concerns about the natural gas line and dozens

more san bruno families are expected to file lawsuits. live in san bruno, patti lee, ktvu news. dozens of investigators today calmed a marine area where human remains were discovered throughout the weekend. they say the remains appear to be that of an adult and may have been in the area for one to two years. the pentagon said today recruiters have been told they must now accept applicants who are openly gay. the policy was apparently still in effect today at an army recruiting station in san francisco. a spokesman for army recruiters based in fresno say they are operating as if don't ask don't tell was not in effect.

>> you oust yourself now in this short period is not going to insulate you from proceedings to to have you discharged from the military later on. it would be a very dangerous thing to do right now. a spokeswoman for the department of defense says she doesn't know why any recruiters would be operating during don't ask don't tell. the new law could change again. san francisco supervisors have decided to delay their vote on a controversial proposal to ban toy give aways in happy meals. unless the meals include fruits and vegetables and limit calories. a vote on the proposal was scheduled for today but is now set to take place two weeks from now on election day. supervisor eric mark says he will use the extra time to come up with a plan to implement the measure. san francisco started a

crack down on business that sell tobacco. it is expected to create more smoke free environments. robert handa has more. >> reporter: we're at one of the parks in santa clara county where it'll soon be against the law to light up a cigarette. retail businesses are also being targeted and that has many owners smoldering. there are many pockets of santa clara city. the city council passed new ordnances aimed at those neighborhoods. one ordnance bans smoking in multi unit residences which made some people happy. >> it comes through the window, it comes through the heating vents, it comes through the stairwells and it's unbearable. >> but the third ordnance drew some fire. it requires all retailers in unincorporated areas to buy a

permit to sell tobacco products. the new law will also restrict the amount of on sight advertising on windows and doors. some small business associations called the new laws an unfair burden. >> small business does not care apparently by our local legislators. because you make it more difficult when you impose tax on us, they make it more difficult to do business. >> reporter: but it was once thought it took young people two to three years to get hooked on smoking. >> new evidence suggests that we were wrong. that teens may experience symptoms of nicotine dependence much sooner than we once thought. even within a day or two of trying cigarettes. >> reporter: the one regarding retail businesses will be held later on november 23rd to give owners another chance to address the board.

robert handa,. with two weeks left until election day, republican candidate for governor made a rare appearance in oakland. the home turf to jerry brown. whitman toured an elementary school where she criticized brown's job as a former mayor. whitman also showed up at a phone bank and helped sr-l tiers there work the phones. running wild, the unique problem at an east bay golf course and the plan to fix it. plus -- >> reporter: some of our most vulnerable citizens get tips on how to survive an earthquake. the new span of the bay bridge hits a new milestone. why this new milestone is coming with warnings to drivers. and i'll have details on which days you will need your umbrella.

as the giants battle to make it to the world series, it's hard to imagine when the loma prieta brought the world series to a halt. today there's new guidelines that will keep people safe. >> reporter: people were wearing giants caps and jackets but they were talking earthquake. the safely out program kicked off in san francisco today. it's aimed at helping people get through a major

catastrophe. kits contain forms that will allow emergency responders how to reach loved ones. there's also a door tag that would let first responders know if someone needs help. it destroyed homes, a freeway and killed 16 people in the city and the east bay. >> i need to be prepared. >> reporter: the hearing was held at the providence baptist church. >> i remember the earthquake, i was there. i was running a child care center and a school and it was really chaotic. >> reporter: the event seemed to make people think. >> it put things on your mind, put it on your mind you know. >> every time you come to an

event like this it helps you to solidify these are the things that are essential. >> reporter: this is part of the kit and state and local officials hope to be able to send tens of thousand of these all over the state as soon as they get enough money to do so. caltrans will begin lifting into place four pillars that will form part of the giant central tower. >> we want to make motorists aware that this construction will happen. if people look at it and slow down, traffic will back up on the bridge. >> they expect to have the tower sections in place by this weekend. a hunter has been hired now

to shoot up to 16 wild pigs that are an expensive problem for a golf course in the east bay. the pigs are tearing up the greens in clayton. police and club managers say in the past they were able to shoo away the few pigs they saw rooting around at night but now there are more of them and they are not as easy frightened. san francisco exploratorium opened it's doored this afternoon. eventually expanding to a nine acre campus including pier 17. they came up with a unique ground breaking ceremony which was a hit with its audience. >> it was pretty exciting. especially when they brought out, because the diver was in the ring. >> i thought what's that tube doing there. then i thought, oh it's for the

exploratorium. >> reporter: the new exploratorium will include research at the pier. and the eyes are on the bay area especially in san francisco with this nlcs and the weather could not have cooperated much better. >> october is one of the best months in the bay area. you knew that and now the rest of the nation knows that. the fog was threatening all day. it's back at the park now. let's go to the current imagery here: you can see the fog all the way across the city now. and that fog will be there in the morning but i suspect by noon, 1:00 like today the fog will burn off. these are the highs from today. your highs tomorrow will be a few degrees cooler than these. we're coming down, today warmest day of the week, today pretty warm mid-70s but cooler than it had be.

saturday night into sunday, looks like might be .04-inch of rain. the actor who played the father on television's long running happy days tom bosely died today at the age of 84. on the show he was known as mr. c. >> i'm not going to leave why why why and blue eyes alone. >> reporter: bosley played the patient understanding father with the quick wit. his agent says he was also battling lung cancer. bosley had a reoccurring role on murder she wrote. he also won a tony award for his work on the musical fiarela. we're back at at&t park. it was warm here, it was sunny, it was beautiful now it's freezing cold. the stadium is empty but the

the national football league announced new rule today

aimed at preventing serious injuries particularly those caused by helmet to helmet hits. the nfl says it will immediately begin suspending players for dangerous and fragrant hits that violate rules. the move comes after several helmet to helmet hits. including that one there, you may recall played at cal, both players ended up suffering concussions. >> that's so hard to watch. i'm so glad to see them get up and walk away. the san francisco giants and fans are both riding high today. the giants shut out the phillies to take the lead in the nlcs. >> what a victory. we go back to the ballpark to mark ibanez to more of the highlights. >> it's candle sticky, but baseball is the happening place around here and the giants do take a 1-2 lead in the series and they get off to a 1-0 lead.

who else cody ross base hit to left field coming through again with a 2-out single against cole hamels. base hit to right, scores the second run of the inning. and as it turns out was going to be enough for matt cain but they do add more, chase utley as freddy sanchez with a 2-out grounder he can't handle. and rowan doubled the lead that inning off. gets him off to a 3-0 lead. and the giants and cody ross ride it to a 3-0 victory. matt cain7 innings of work gives up only two hits, no runs. cody ross talks about the magic he has found as a san francisco giant. >> for the most part it's about confidence going up there and knowing you're going to get the job done or do something to help your team.
