at noon. >> good afternoon, topping our news this noontime president obama is using his star power all over california to help democrats in the upcoming november election. he left the bay area just after 10:00 this morning and arrived in los angeles about 30 minutes ago to help out some more candidates and campaign war chests. jade hernandez joins us now with more from there. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. president obama left sfo about an hour and a half ago and has landed in l.a. that is where he will be later this afternoon then off to las vegas. his motorcade left the hotel around 10:15 this morning. several law in forcement agencies helped with the security detail, including the u.s. coast guard. airforce 1 left sfo around 1 0:30. the president will continue his rally cry for the democratic national committee and speak in an event at usc for senator barbara boxer. she is in a close race for the

republican nominee carly fiorina. yesterday he got off the plane and met with steve jobs for about 45 minutes chatting about american competitiveness and education. then it was to atherton, where san francisco district attorney, who is running for state attorney general. from there down to palo alto for dinner with 50 guests who paid more than $30,000 to meet with the president. there was a group who stood near where the president spent the night earlier this morning, watching and waiting to see airforce 1 leave. >> i can't -- [ inaudible ] >> -- glimpse of our pres president leaving the bay area. it doesn't happen very often, so just don't get the opportunity many times to say goodbye. see him off. its protesters. in atherton a small group made it known they don't support the president's policies. earlier yesterday the president held a backyard town hall type event where he met with women business owners and discussed the economy, his presidency and healthcare and also urged voters to do their part. he will continue on the campaign trail raising support for the midterelection in a few weeks. right now he is in los angeles and as i mentioned he will head from there to las vegas. >> president obama took time from his preelection appearances to comment on a current trend of bullying. he says he is shocked and saddened by the recent suicides of young people taunted for being gay. >> he didn't do anything wrong. he didn't do anything to deserve being bullied. and there is a whole world waiting for you, filled with possibilities. there are people out there who love you and care about you just the way you are. with time -- [ inaudible ] [overlapping speakers]

>> -- website. he says americans need to dispel the myth that bullying is a normal rite of passage. san francisco's historic gay pride parade is under scrutiny today because of budget problems. the organization is $100,000 in debt and owes almost $60,000 to smaller non-profits who were hired to work beverage booths. today the parade's executive director announced her resignation, saying she would leave next week. others also resigned. the city is planning to step in toe help. >> we are going to come in and help raise money but we are asking the city comptroller to also come in and do a technical review and look at some of the issues. [ inaudible ] >> -- expected and they agreed they were short changed. the parade's annual budget is about $2 million. umbrellas are out this noontime as wet weather makes

its way across the bay area. this is light rain but steady in parts of the bay area this morning. it seems to be be a sign of what is to come this weekend. there smythe be mad moderate even heavy run fall by sunday. steve paulson will be here in a few minutes with more on the rain. we are looking into a surprising turn of events about tonight's opening of the exotic erough tick ball. the website has a huge banner across the top saying this weekend's big party is cancelled. there is no explanation as to why. the remember sight only says that details will come soon. that would have been the 31st annual exotic erough tick ball. it was an especially big deal because it is held in richmond and not san francisco. we will have more on this story in our ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00. the champagne is still on ice for the giants. they failed to clinch the pennant last night so now they are heading to philadelphia for game 6 tomorrow.

paul chambers joins us now with more from outside at&t park. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon tori. of course, we are outside as you said, home of the giants. it is not a big fanfare like the last few days. all the booths are gone. i guess last night it wasn't meant to be as they lose 4-2 to the phillies, ming the meaning the team is headed backest. >> it was kind of a loss. i felt it for sure. >> i kind of felt it wasn't going to swing our way. a lot of people said phillies in six. i said giants in six. >> reporter: we were there as they boarded team buses headed to the airport in route to philadelphia, where the giantings will the giants will have their chance at redemption. they need one more victory to send them to the world series. last night's game was a

heartbreaker for giant fans, the giants led 1-0 until the third inning. roy halladay's bunt appear to be foul but it turned into runs for them. the grounder hit off the bottom of his glove and wound up in center field as two runs scored. then the icing on the cake, jayson werth's solo homer in the 9th inning which brought a hush to the crowd of nearly 44 thousand. still giant fans say they are keeping the faith their team will come home with a victory in a national league title. >> closing out on saturday, that is it. going to to the world series and we will take this one, finally. now tim license cum lasted 7 innings last night. it is possible he could return as a relief pitcher this weekend in philadelphia. tomorrow night's games will have jonathan san easy against roy oswalt. live in san francisco, paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news.

off and lost a lot of blood. the coroner is currently on scene and has closed surf, wall and minuteman beach. it is a first of its kind for police. they are trying to find out who buried two human hearts in glass jars at the holy cross catholic cemetery. a maintenance worker found them in an isolated area last week. there were pictures of two different couples one in each jar. they were also emballed and burned candles nearby. they are not sure but they are certain some law was broken. the latest on a mall badly damaged by fire. a national controversy after the firing of a well- known broadcaster. steve paulson has more on the weekend forecast and the rain that is on its way. >> we are just thrilled -- [ inaudible ] >> -- went down in flames last

it is not known when a sacramento area mall will re- open after a man started a fire that damaged several stores and caused part of a roof to collapse. police say 23-year-old

alexander pigging walked into the game stop at the westfield galleria in roseville around 10:00 yesterday morning. he ordered all the employees out, then barricaded himself inside the store and started a fire. security evacuated the mall and the swat team arrested the man. authorities also called in the bomb squad because the suspect had a backpack with him. >> he could have carried anything. he could have carried nothing. it could be any source of things just really depends on what kind of damage this individual wants to do. >> the fire burned for several hours. it caused extensive damage to the mall as well as to dozens of stores inside. no one was hurt. tomorrow protesters -- supporters of oscar grant, including bay area long shoremen are planning to shut down bay area ports and attend a rally at oakland city hall. former bart police officer johannes mehserle is scheduled to be sentenced in two weeks for killing grant. grant's supporters want him to

receive the maximum sentence of 14 years for his involuntary manslaughter conviction. we talked with long shoremen this morning about why they are taking part. >> we wanted to bring labor involved because we wanted to prove that somehow this always gets twisted with violence and rioting and all that and we want to make sure that that is not going to happen. >> the long shoremen say they want to show solidarity with oscar grant because two striking dock workers were killed by san francisco police back in 34. the district attorney has decided not to file charges against a police officer. the officer pretended to arrest a 15-year-old boy who had sex with his step-daughter. prosecutors have concluded the officer was within his legal rights to investigate the potential crime of unlawful sex between mine others, the officer remains on paid leave for the august 30th incident. more than a year after it

was gutted by fire a san jose good will story opened this morning and it is even better than ever. the 15,000 square foot store is in the 3000 block of allen rock avenue. >> 1, 2, 3 -- [ inaudible ] [ cheers ] >> the chamber of commerce was there for the ribbon cutting ceremony. good will says the nowly re- opened store has wider aisles and merchandise departments and has 25 employees and 15 are new hires. the building was destroyed by fire in september of last year, just three months after being remodeled. >> we are just thrilled to be back in the allen rock community and again to have the opportunity to provide them the services and the opportunity to purchase used goods at great value. >> the store features books and furniture along with traditional items such as clothing for men, women and children. the firing of juan williams has sparked a debate over the

freedom of speech and whether the federal government should continue funding public radio. nicole collins has more in this report. >> reporter: juan williams was fired from his post as political analyst for national public radio wednesday, after comments he made about muslims in his other role as a contributor to fox news. >> i am not a bigot. you know the kind of books i have written about the civil rights movement in this country but when i get on a plane, i got to tell you if i see people who are in muslim gear and they are identifying themselves first and foremost i get worried, i get nervous. >> reporter: at a speaking engagement she defended the decision to fire him. >> if you want to be a political activist you may not also be a reporter or news analyst for npr. this is very well understood by the lion's share of our staff and by journalists all over the country and all over the world. >> reporter: fox announced thursday williams signed a

multi year contract for an expanded roll at the network. in washington, nicole, collins. >> now a senator from south carolina plans to introduce legislation that could cut npr funding. n f r says itgets most of its money from aquill 8s and federal funding only provides 2% of its budget. a new poll on proposition 19 shows most californians do not want to legalize marijuana. the poll indicates that fun% will vote no and just 39% will vote e. 10% said they didn't know. prop 19 would allow the possession of one ounce of marijuana for recreational use and up to a 25 foot square pot garden. local government would also regulate and tax any pot sales. checking now with our meteorologist steve paulson, so steve, getting some more rain out there. >> i will say, tori, especially as we get to sunday. cloudy, light rain.

the first system went by this morning and the second one came in behind it spreading high clouds. light rain from livermore towards fremont, milpitas and san jose over to mountain view. light drizzle around oakland up to santa rosa and se because to pal so a great gray day. temperatures upper 50s and low 60s and lows in the 50s so we have not gone very far. only a couple of moments of sun. there goes last night and this morning's system. watch the next one just roar in here so it is already crib creasing. more rain by this evening. lots going on this weekend. cloudy with light rain today. saturday the next system comes in and spreads over the area but that one can't hold a candle to the one on sunday, it looks like heavy rain but everybody will get in on the rain for this system for sunday, which will take us into monday morning. se because to pal and napa picked up over 27/100s. not too bad. petaluma and mill valley 12 and san francisco has picked up a

10th 10th of an inch. so that is not too bad. the next system has ramped up and is arriving tonight into tomorrow. upper 50s, low 60s, livermore- concord 62, oakland and berkeley 62, 59 in san francisco. 52 up in tahoe, south wind ahead so mild conditions, snow will go way up. it will come down sunday night, clouds and wind and rain more than snow but by sunday night it is coming way down. ukia 59 degrees. the one over it is givic us light rain. there is your saturday system right there. that looks pretty good. most of that is going to go to the north. the sunday system packs the big punch and that is developing. there is actually a lot of moisture associated with this so we could get hefty totals in the north bay and northern california lesser amounts south but everybody gets the rain for the weekend. cloudy skies, cool to mild. cloud cover over us with light

next week. actress lindsey lohan avoided more jail time today but she is under new court orders to go pack to rehab until after the new year. this morning the judge told her she is an addict and must remain at the betty ford center until january third and threatened to send her to jail if she relapsed again. lohan cried after the hearing. her legal problems began with drug and drunk driving charges in 2007 and she recently faild a drug test. she is due back in court february 25th. o.j. simpson lost an aspiel today to overturn his armed robbery and kidnapping convictions. he is serving 9033 years at a state prison in nevada. as the result of an armed hotel room confrontation in las vegas. the judge rejected all eight appeal arguments that focused on the racial make up of the jury and the dismissal of two african american jurors. the judge said the lawyers did

not provide evidence of discrimination in those dismissals. jobless figures for california are just out. we will tell you if they are up or down. a new type of exercise debuted today in the bay area that has people hanging from the ceiling.

also moves appear to be held in check as investors turn attention to a meeting of finance that is coming up. right now the dow is down 26, nasdaq down 17, the s&p up 1.5. new unemployment figures out today show no change on the job front here. the unemployment rate remained at 12.4% last month, slightly higher than it was at the same time last year when it was 1 2.1%. nearly 2.3 million californians are unemployed. that is up 10,000 from august. pg&e repaired a gas leak this morning in san francisco. pg&e says it started after a gardener broke a one inch gas line at 29th avenue between lincoln and irving. crews were able to pinch off the line about 11:00 a.m. no evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported. tomorrow bay area yoga students can try out a new kind of yoga for free in campbell.
