little dark, but traffic flowing nicely. 6:01. let's head back to the desk. developing news coming from hayward. a suspicious overnight fire t damaged several cars, and we have home video of the flames. you've got to see it. >>reporter: 20 residents initially evacuated, but have been allowed to go back. we have exclusive video from one resident able to share what he captured on his camera when the flames broke out. intense fire engulfed the carport in the parking lot located along here. a dumpster fire was spread to the cars underneath a nearby carport. firefighters are not sure where the flames originated.

several residents reported a loud explosion, but not knowing where it was coming from. >> i thought it was a shotgun at first, and then my car alarm started going off, so i thought it was some sort of earthquake or something. >>reporter: the good news is, no one was hurt. you're looking inside of the only apartment which had fire and spoke damage. those residents were allowed to go back inside to see what they could salvage. firefighters are letting those residents determine if they want to stay. i'm told they're looking for a

hotel tonight. there was a lot of residents coming out this morning trying to determine if they have any damage to their cars and we'll continue to follow this story. an amber alert has been issued for a their keen-year- old girl. maranda's parents reported her missing on sunday. she's described as white, 5'7", 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. a sheriffs spokeswoman tells us that she voluntarily left her home this past sunday with ivan lopez, a 22-year-old man she apparently met on the internet. lopez has an active warrant for a sex crime from last year.

the van he reportedly is driving is gray with license 2ciw894. again an amber alert has been issued. if you have any information please call police. time 6:04. a nurse at east bay jail is in serious condition following a violent attack. paul chambers is joining us live in martinez with all the details. good morning, paul. >>reporter: good morning, dave. there's been a shift change so a lot of people coming and going, no one giving us additional information. here's what we do know. sometimes last nig was attacked while a person was being booked, being treated by the guards. the nurse was checking the inmate out. the inmate went into a rage and attacked the nurse. we are getting very limited information on this. we're trying to stay on top of this and bring to you what we can. we've seen some nurses come out today.

they do not want to talk to us about it, didn't want to give you additional information, but police did confirm that an attack did happen last night where a nurse was attacked by an inmate being booked. we're also following developing news out of indonesia where 23 people have died in a tsunami and dozens are missing. a 7.7 magnitude earthquake caused a tsunami. the hardest hit village authorities say of the 200 people living there, only 40 have been found. back in december of 2004 a tsunami killed more than

226,000 people. flooded streets after a water main break shortly after 5:00 last night between powell and 59th street. water flooded the streets. that forced drivers to detour around the area during rush hour. they had to reroute service for at least one business, but the service has been restored to normal. it's not clear what caused the break. could be just normal wear and tear. today putting into place the second of four sections of

eastbound, a fender-bender, but the car sticking into the lanes and quite dangerous according to drivers. this right now is a look at the bay bridge. you can see traffic moving pretty well across the span, but at the toll plaza it's backed up so give yourself extra time. 880 near the oakland coliseum, still pretty dark but traffic pretty heavy as you make your way past the oakland coliseum. 680, traffic on the right as you make your way toward freemont looking pretty good at this hour. this just in. the airport 38 degrees, a cold morning, but sunshine returns. we had that yesterday, today sunny and carrying that into tomorrow. a little breezy, higher elevations 15-20.

today both candidates for governor will appear together on a stage in long beach. it is for california first lady maria shriver's woman's conference. the governor will have a conversation with republican candidate and democratic candidate, and it will be moderated by matt lauer. it should be interesting. election officials expected to mail out corrected ballots to thousands of voters who ballots for next tuesday's elections contain mistakes. more than 2700 voters will be

hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid from iran and he said the u.s. has known about it for years. president karzai says his country well comes financial aid from many countries, but is disputing recent reports that the money is being used to payoff tribal leaders or taliban commanders. the state department says the u.s. recognizes the need for the afghan government to work with its neighbors. after several high profile cases of bullying and students suicides as a result, the obama administration is issuing a warning to schools. a letter is going out. >>reporter: the department of education's civil rights division is sending out the letter essentially warning schools they could be violating federal antidiscrimination laws if they don't protect students from bullying and

they go on sale the day after thanksgiving. a new day may be dawning for the bay area jobs picture. a new report by beacon economics indicates several industries started hiring more people over the last three months. they include high-tech, financial services, research, arts and entertainment, hotels, restaurants and bars. there's still weak areas. the list says it's construction, retail, government, and real estate that just aren't too strong right now. >> all right. one woman says santa clara county is ripping off tax payers and the u.s. government. she heads to court today. asking for the giants and rangers as they get ready to walk out on the field for the world series, this is something that will influence a lot of

county for illegally billing tax payers for foster children. social services took away her two boys back in 2001 after her former husband made a false claim during their divorce. she got her children back five days later, sued the county and won a half million dollars, but uncovered a document she says indicates the county counseled her two boys and build the federal government accordingly. >> there was a note that said the county would get a case count for five children even though there were only two. >> she says that she also obtained records showing the county billed for 12 months of care, not just a few days that social services had her boys. a county spokeswoman says the allegations are without merit and that the county has asked the court to dismiss the case. a frantic search continues for a young southern california girl. who she's believed to be with

sometime last night an inmate was being booked into the detention facility. as he was being booked police say he flew into a rage and attacked a nurse brutally. we do not know the name of the inmate or the name of the nurse. we do not know the condition of the nurse. we've put in calls to the sheriff's office to get additional information. they've yet to return our calls. we'll bring you the latest. once again, a nurse here at the facility brutally attacked last night, and that's about as much as we know at this time. the patient accused in the killing of a state hospital worker said to make his first court appearance today. the 37-year-old was arrested after 54-year-old donna gross was found dead in an area of the hospital on saturday. the motive is believed to be robbery. despite complaints from co- workers about a lack of

security, investigators say this is the first time an employee has been killed on hospital grounds. >> there have been homicides there before involving patients on patients, but it's rare. >> investigators are not saying how the woman died, but an autopsy is scheduled for today. also today hospital employees plan to hold a candlelight vigil in her memory at 7:00 this evening. today a suspect will be charged in the shooting of a man at an atm in oakland. police announced the arrest, but are withholding the name of the suspect. police say the suspect and victim have known each other for some time and the victim was targeted. a police officer in san jose was hurt during a crack down on an alleged gambling

ring at hill view park. a high stakes gambling operation. when police arrived they found about 30 people involved in a dice game. the injured officer's leg was cut while chasing one man, who was arrested for evading a police officer and misdemeanor illegal gambling. two others were arrested for possession of marijuana for sale. disturbing testimony during a preliminary hearing for two san jose teenagers accused of killing their classmate. prosecutors say randy thompson and jay williams stabbed michael russell in the back yard of russell's home and left him to die back in november of 2009. all three were students at santa theresa high school and there are reports that a former girlfriend of the suspects testified that they talked about wanting to kill and showed her images of animals being tortured. a new report by pg and e points to an alarming number of

potentially dangerous pipelines that could have gone unnoticed, 38 having leaks during a mandatory examination in the wake of the deadly explosion. four of them were found in large pipes like the one that ruptured. all of the leaks have since been repaired, but could have gone undetected more than a year. they're looking into replacing 300 manual gas valves with remote or automatic ones. the valves have become a central issue in the san bruno explosion after investigators revealed that it took crews 90 minutes to shut off the flow of gas after the september blast. arrest warrants for two fraud suspects in the explosion after they failed to appear in court. a 22-year-old and 25-year-old are accused of trying to get a fake id in order to receive services offered to victims. they were supposed to appear

face value, but you can buy them online from ticket brokers. we went over this yesterday. we're going to go over it again because the prices are actually higher. this section right here is the most expensive. see the orange dot, 12 seats available. here's the problem. look how much they cost per ticket. it's $20,000 per ticket to sit in section 108. the city of san francisco can't do anything about that, but what they can do is try to come up with an idea. they're promoting to set up a large public viewing area for the games at at&t park a lot like they had at the civic center plaza during the world cup.

an oakland hospital has a mystery on its hands this morning explaining how it lost track of one of its patient who died. this is a story you'll see only here on 2. 47-year-old gerald constantine, an auto mechanic, was rushed to the summit back october 8, but later died of heart failure. it wasn't until 10 days later that his family found out he had died. my understanding was the computer system they put down he was discharged as opposed to deceased. >> we were searching the streets for him. everywhere you could think of that somebody could possibly

end up. >> mily members eventually found out from the coroner about his death. they're looking into why the next of kin wasn't notified right away in this case. hospital official did tell us that they're very sorry and that obviously something went wrong. th officials say they've received several complaints about bed bugs at apartments along monument boulevard and plan to hold a public meeting about bedbugs this thursday at meadow homes elementary school. the county bedbug task force will talk about detecting and managing them. they cause itchy bumps, but they're not known to carry any diseases. in los angeles authorities weighing criminal charges for three juveniles accused in a deadly crash. police say three boys in a black bmw ran a red light, hit and killed a pedestrian then slammed into a school bus
