wilson had them locked down early. matt cain, the other way, no slouch at all against a very good rangers' lineup. matt cain has not given up and earned run in itself postseason. kinsler against matt cain in the 5th. he just pounds one to deep center field. it hits the very, very top of the wall and bounced back. kinsler can't believe it e thought he had a home run, but the ball bounced back in. torres fielding it out there. he held them -- him to a double. he was able to get out of the inning, cain gets c.j. wilson to bounce out. so we're halfway through the ballgame and it's scoreless. hard to believe it wound up 9- 0, san francisco having now out

8:39 pm
>> now, if you look at the final score of this game, 9-0, you would never know it was a tight 0-0 game more than halfway through it. it went from a pitcher's -- weird inc. weird ballgame. >> you would think it was a blow out but it wasn't. you had two start' pitchers on top of their game. we got a break when the ball didn't go out, that kept it as 0-0. then we got the home run. matt cain what a job we did. we needed it because we weren't doing much off of wilson. then we benefited from the walks nice to have a cushion going into the 9th inning. >> matt cain, talk about him. hasn't allowed an earned run in

the postseason. you got to be a proud manager of a guy that's come through like that. >> i am. it's hard to believe he's only 26 years old. it seems like he's been pitching about ten years. really, all year he's probably been our most consistent starter. i'm glad that he's just receiving the attention that he should. he's been a hard luck guys in his career and it's great to get these runs for him. >> final question, as you enjoy a day off tomorrow traveling down to texas, set us up for game 3, if you would. san sclerosis, have you decided to go with him first -- sanchez, is he ready after what went on in philadelphia mentally to take on this challenge? >> i certainly believe he is and we all have a hiccup. you look at what he's done down the stretch for us, helped us get here with that big game against san diego, pitched great against atlanta. he will put that last game behind him because we're going

first guy up, he makes a fantastic catch. that's just an example of one of the great moves he's made. he can duno wrong right now. and you won't find any giant fan disappointed with the way he's managing this team right now. >> all right. we will see you in a little bit. thanks so much. i would just say giants' fans, if you didn't have a seat at the ballpark -- >> one of the places that was broadcasting the game was the academy of sciences. david was there with all the fans. anybody still left there? >> people are just starting to arrive for a bigger celebration. i'm standing outside the academy of sciences. it's a great please for a little more sedated celebration. it's a perfect contrast to the

scene at at&t park. this is where about 70 museum goers gathered to watch the game on a big screen tv. many people came in costume. fans told us they were surprised to actually be able to see the world series while serving the museum exhibits. earlier in the game when the score was about 2-0, giants fans said it was still a very exciting event. >> we heard that they had the game on and we could also see the plan tarium and the animals so it's a good place to watch the game and enjoy everything else. >> pretty exciting. i think people don't normally like baseball, i think everyone is getting into it. even people in the east bay are excited. this is a little lower -- it's
8:44 pm
very exciting because we're up. >> reporter: they win the game 9-0. the giants and halloween share the same orange and black colors. the party here celebrating both is expected to go on into the late evening. reporting live outside the academy of sciences. we will head back to you. >> okay. thank you. and elsewhere thousands of giants' fans decked out in orange and black hoping for one more w tonight and that's exactly what they got. like outside at&t park where a lot of happy fans out there, mike. >> a lot of happy fans, frank. how about them giants? look at some of these fans still pouring out of the ballpark. they were loud inside and they are still loud right now. take a listen. [ cheering and applause ] i don't want to get ahead of ourselves but it does feel
8:45 pm
good, standing room only. we were in there for the final out. we will show you what it was like. 8:47 pm
works out. >> reporter: for most of the time you've been on this team, the giants have not had a very strong offense, i'm wondering if that makes you comfortable in title games? >> yeah, this is -- from the time i've been here, we've always played a lot of close games. that's just the way this ballpark usually turns out games to be. so it's one of those things where you get used to pitching and in tied ballgames and trying to understand which situations are -- [ audio difficulty ] could you go through that conversation you had? >> rj was great for a lot of us, for me and -- he did a great job of really emphasizing to stay deep in the game because if you're out there in the groove and you can get
8:48 pm
stuff done instead of trying to change the ball in different guys' hands. the later you can get into a game, seems like the better circumstances will be about winning. >> -- [ audio difficulty ] >> you got to try to work ahead in the count. it's a big thing. trying to get those guys and the defensive swings, stuff like that. if you can get ahead in the count, usually those days is where you can usually get later in the game. >> talk a little bit about matt and what he was doing so well. >> he just commanded the fastball to both sides of the plate. really just, i mean he executed his pitches. he threw them where he wanted to. he was aggressive. he was able to get some quick outs early in the game, keep his pitch count down. then you saw him bare down with second and third and one out.
8:49 pm
he executed his pitches really well against cruz and kinsler. >> reporter: all i heard -- >> i think easterning -- earning the nickname big game matt cain. a lot of people going to be talking about that 8th inning. we go back out to the ballpark now. you hardly ever see something like that. >> thanks a lot. appreciate it. >> reporter: you can see the fans in the background here, pretty happy about the bay things are going. -- about the way things are going. i'm standing with the reliever affeldt. what a ballgame, what a start to this series. it was like two different games. tight pitching, then it got wild in the bottom of the 8th. >> well, i think what you saw was matt cain pitch an awesome game. he kept the tempo where it
8:50 pm
needed to be. got into a little bit of trouble, but he ended up getting an infield popup. kept everything where they needed to be and they had some stuff not go their way. kinsler hit a ball that bounced back in for us. with the tempo he set and getting us on and off the field, he kept good rhythm with the hitters and we obviously kind of took it away from there in the 8th inning with some walks and some key hits. it was a fun game to watch. >> you mentioned that 8th inning and you're a pitcher, you guys are a special certain breed, especially you left handers. but you had to kind of feel for the rangers, i don't think i've ever seen an inning that started with two outs nobody on base, four walks, a hit, next thing you know it's a complete blowout. >> yeah, i don't think the game really necessarily -- that score doesn't dictate that

game. wilson did an awesome job starting tonight. it's a tough situation. sometimes -- yours in the world series, you know. everybody has their first time. they weren't hitting their spots late in the game, walking guys. they have been pretty good all year. i don't think that's them. we will definitely take it. but you know, i think-you kind of feel for them a little bit because you want to be out there and be your best. everybody wants to throw strikes and a lot of them, when you're not it's frustrating and hopeless. >> tell me about these fans. how much of a pump are they giving you guys. >> how much are guys talking about that on the bench? >> well, i the electricity these began -- these fans give us, as loud as they get here, as excited as they are, everywhere you go in the city, they are screaming, yelling, it's all about the giants, we
8:52 pm
really feel good when we come back and play here. they have stuck with us -- 2002 is the last time we've been to the world series. i think everybody in the clubhouse says they are a big part of this and i don't think we would be here without them. >> reporter: i don't think a giant fan will forget what you did in philly. affeldt. safe to say pretty excited fans. they don't want to leave. nobody wearing orange and black tonight wants to leave this ballpark, guys. >> just soak it all in. i don't think i would want to leave either. there is still much more to come here on this special edition. as we head to break here, another pitcher live. as the giants go up two games to none. the series now heads to texas for games 3 and 4.
