complete bay area news coverage starts right now, this is "ktvu channel 2 news" news at noon. >> good afternoon, stopping our news, officials are pouring over two ups cargo planes after intelligence services received reports of suspicious packages on those planes. one plane is being held at a remote area at philadelphia airport, the other is in new jersey. at the same time, a routine screening in the united kingdom uncovered a package sent from yemen containing a toner cartridge, wires, and powder. and there are reports just coming in that fed ex has isolated a suspicious package in dubai that was shipped from yemen. no explosives have been found yet. one u.s. official says authorities are investigating whether the packages might have been part of a dry run for a plot to ship explosives via

ups. and we have breaking news from reno. police say a gunman opened minor in a walmart this morning. the gunman is holed up in the walmart right now after he allegedly shot three employees. the employees have been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. again, this is happening at a walmart store in reno. a freemont-based company wants to help fighting crime. the tool will work as a home surveillance service by using your phone, tv, or smart phone. good afternoon, jade. >> reporter: good afternoon, san jose police that these cameras will empower residents to share information anonymously with police. live in san jose this afternoon, these maps can show

you where the cameras are located and where the different crimes have taken place. today the san jose police department took these maps and partners with logitech alert that allows anyone with a camera to monitor their home. with the help of police and logitech's technology plus the website, the department has increased what they feel is necessary to fight crime in san jose's growing city. >> this is silicone valley, we love the technology that comes out of the valley. the technology will help us to leverage our resources, the hard working and great men and women of the police department need all the help they can get. >> reporter: san jose was the first city in the country to provide crimereports.com with all their 911 incidents, now 1,000 cities have signed up on the website. logitech's indoor and outdoor cameras

water on to his windshield he couldn't see. on arkansas near 18th street, a couple of trees fell into the road. fortunately, the trees did not hit anyone. the trees did block the roadway while crews cleaned up the mess. right now, the giants are on the way to texas where they play game 3 of the world series tomorrow. san francisco has a commanding 2 game to none lead after two strong victories at at&t park, but they are not being overconfident since they still need two more wins. craig debra joins us with more outside the ballpark. a little quieter today. >> reporter: just a little quieter today, notice the area where we're stand, they didn't get a chance to clean it up last night. 2 games to none, not impossible to overcome, the giants aren't being overly confident. when you have a 2 games to none

hoping going home will turn the tide. >> first time the world series for the rangers, we love them, we still love them. >> reporter: was it hard to watch? >> no. well, yeah. >> we had a good time because it was so historical for the rangers to be in the world series and somewhat improbable, but it was a lot of fun. >> reporter: after two unbelievable wins here at san francisco, even those who aren't going to arlington are seeing the giant's fever. this man isn't even from san francisco but he's decked out in giant's fear. >> i'm rooting for the giants. i love the giants. i love san francisco. >> reporter: we found two men traveling from mexico headed to the game. >> they caught the fever. put it that way. they caught the fever here in the city. they enjoyed it quite a bit. >> reporter: chris and gene sullivan knew sue burns, they are going to the game and got

emotional thinking about what this means for the franchise. >> very -- sentimental to us because burns, owners of the giants, passed away early in their life last year. very mel -- they should be here. >> they are such a good-hitting team. but pitching wins series, we definitely had the best pitchers. >> reporter: what kind of receptions will giant's fans get? rangers fans say they were treated well here and giants fans can expect the same, but chris sullivan was nervous. >> i might be halloweeny instead of gianty, but i think the fans will be good. >> i think the fans are nice. i'll make sure they'll treat them right around us. >> reporter: giants fans they talked to are hoping this will be a pretty quick trip. a couple more games and wins and head home.

three similar incidents recently, including an earlier shooting at the museum and shots fired at the pentagon and a marine recruiting center. the fbi say the first three shootings were connected and the fourth could be. no one has been injured in any of the incidents. we are getting breaking news now into the ktvu channel 2 newsroom. authorities in daily city are responding to a hazardous materials report at a business at 20ponsetta drive south of john bull saturday and west interstate 280. you are looking at live pictures from the scene. you can see a lot of official road vehicles there, fire trucks, firefighters responded to a call from an odor and found a caustic material on the third floor. they are said to be treating people on the street outside the building. as we get more information, we'll bring it to you.

these are live pictures from the scene, breaking news in daily city. we'll get you more information as we get it. in a ktvu exclusive, we hear from meserly as he awaits sentencing for the killer of oscar grant. meserly spends almost 24 hours a day in a cell by himself. when he does go outside, he must be escorted by a deputy for protection. meserly says his safety is not his biggest concern. >> i don't worry about myself. that's not my -- i'm sure my family probably -- i know they worry about me, but i worry about them. >> in july a jury convicted meserly of involuntary manslaughter. meserly says he meant to use his taser on grant. since the shooting, bart now requires more taser training.

>> do you blame your training? >> you know, i don't know if i can point fingers, but i think it could have been better now that i've heard everything, yeah. >> meserly says when he realized he'd shot grant with his gun, he was in complete disbelief. he says he tried to calm grant and applied pressure to the gun shot wound. when grant started to lose consciousness, meserly says he prayed grant would be okay. rita williams exclusive interview lasted more than an hour. we'll broadcast additional segments later in the day at the ktvu news at 5 and tonight at 10. interview segments are also posted on www.ktvu.com. bart is celebrating a ground breaking today to expand service in the east bay. the project is the beginning of the new east bart extension

called e-bart. it will run down the median of highway 4 to hill crest avenue. the new diesel powered system is expected to reduce traffic congestion on route 4 and at $262 million officials say it's 60% costly than conventional bart. the project is expected to create 600 jobs during construction and 80 permanent jobs. >> unique project. the coordination of cal-trans, the widening of highway 4, the additional lanes, together with bart, coming together to make it possible. >> officials say e-bart will carry as many people as an additional lane of highway traffic but without the unfriendly transmissions. quite a bit going on today with the weather. rain this morning and more in

the forecast? >> there is. it's been raining most of the day in the north bay, but now a lot lighter as this band swings offshore. more coming off the peninsula, but the main band is going parallel to the coast. picking up a lot of rain, looks like rain in the south bay and east bay. it's a lot of clouds. you can see breeze, an easterly breeze, higher pressure to the east, this low pressure is offshore. the wind has been offshore. watch this rotates back in, the russian river, inch and a half, duncan mills, highway 116 had an inch of rain. santa rosa has been steady this morning. the city, .4, most fell before 5:00 a.m., napa picked up about .3 of an inch. see how the system is a low dig south, it takes the front and

state budgets cuts are crippling my classroom. they can't believe the sacramento politicians will give our state's wealthiest corporations a new billion dollar tax giveaway. lobbyists have the ear of people who are just thinking about wealth. when you cut the budget, then you cut these students' opportunities. passing prop 24 can change all that. prop 24 repeals the unfair corporate giveaway and puts our priorities first. vote yes on prop 24 because it's time to give our schools a break.

for those who have not already taken advantage of early voting or vote by mail, we want to remind you the general election is just four days away. voters will go to the polls tuesday to weigh in on a number of propositions, local offices, members of the house of representatives, california governor and the united states senator. with that in mind, fiorina focused on job creation and appeared with the owner of the sugar shack candy company. the most recent field poll shows barbara boxer with an 8 point lead over fiorina. the giant drug company pfizer says it's recalling 38,000 bottles of the drug lipitor. pfizer says it comes of two complaints of a musty or moldy

odor. it's the third lipitor recall in three months over the odor issue. pfizer recalled bottles in august and earlier this month. pfizer says the odor was traced to a chemical on wooden palettes. the first lowes store in san francisco opened for business this morning. it opened on bay shore boulevard. the 80,000 square foot store is putting 200 people to work. there's also a special garden center. an official grand opening and board-cutting ceremony is scheduled for november 4. tonight at 5, more of ktvu's exclusive interview with former bart officer meserly. >> do you know today why it
