i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's monday, november 1st. this morning, san francisco police are searching for suspects in a city in the potrero hill neighborhood. one of the victims, a 3-year- old girl, who just returned from a halloween event and is now fighting for her life. claudine wong has more details on the ongoing investigation. >> reporter: good morning, tori. yes. this investigation is underway. we're at police headquarter the at the hall of justice. at this this hour two of the three shooting victims are fighting for their lives. one of the victims, the 3-year- old girl. this happened around 10:00 last night in the potrero hill -- potrero hill neighborhood. a man was hit once, the little girl multiple times.

her injuries are being described by police as life- threatening. a short distance away on cota, a 20-year-old man was also found suffering from life- threatening injuries. he too had been shot multiple times. at this point we don't know if and how the victims knew each other or if the shootings are related. we don't have any suspect information. what we do know is the victims are fighting for their lives. anyone with any information is asked to call the san francisco police department. live in san francisco, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, claudine. it is 7:02. oakland police are offering a reward of up to $45,000 to find the gunman who shot nine people at a halloween party. this happened early yesterday morning at sweet's nightclub where a party called "fright fest" was being held.

it's the largest number of shooting victims in oakland in recent memory. >> it was mayhem as the shots were fired. we could not -- there was -- no one found the shooter. >> a man who was shot in the back is believed to have been the bullet -- been the target. the stage is set for a history-making night in bay area sports. the giants one win away from the world series title since they moved to san francisco. kraig debro is live outside city hall with the story. tonight, mayor gavin newsom has announced there's gonna be a big screen out here. this morning already, a little bit of activity. there's scissor lifts.

hearing. attorneys for the state of california will try to done vince the judge -- convince the judges to let the state force the immigration law. in july, an immigration judge put parts of the law on hold, including the prevision that would check the immigration status of the people they've stopped, if they suspect they may be in the country illegally. a car accident in suisun city is blamed for a widespread power outage. a driver collided with a utility box. we just talked to pg&e. they say the crash initially knocked out power to more than 4100 customers. right now, at this hour, about 270 customers are still waiting to get their service back. ac transit riders, you will have to deal with longer waits and crowded buses on this new

commute day. the transit agency imposed service to almost 70 lines. ac transit expects the service cuts to save more than $11 million. let's check in with sal castanedo who is keeping a close eye on the monday morning commute. >> good morning. we're looking at the drive into san francisco because of earlier problems on the bridge. westbound bay bridge, traffic is going to be slow for about a 15-minute delay at the toll plaza. again, it's nothing too major but it's there for sure that slowdown. once you get past the metering lights, another ten minutes off to san francisco you go. this morning's commute in the city looks good. the freeway should cooperate. northbound 280 traffic, also

looks good down king street. peninsula traffic 101, 280. southbound 101 should be okay to the airport. in the south bay it's getting more -- more crowded here and there. here's steve. a very happy monday morning to you all. we have a little bit of patchy clouds. not much. it will be sunny and warmer. temperatures a little chill. not too bad. last week, you know, it was just nutty. it was crazy. we had the low out there. it just teased us and teased us. we had more rain, cloudy conditions. it started to improve and that what the sine of a much quieter workweek. the jet stream, the rever bear is building north. that's a mountain of high pressure over us. patchy fog, sunny, warmer.

no return address and excessive postal should get very careful scrutiny. germany is banning all passenger flights from yemen. this, of course, is the latest response to the attempted bombings of two car gee planes on friday. investigator -- cargo planes on friday. investigators have identified this man as the top suspect. he's believed to be in yemen, where authorities have made at least two other arrests in connection with the plot. the president's top counterterrorism aide says it's a global investigation. >> we can't presume there are not individuals in different locations throughout the world, including the u.s., would might have some association with this plot. >> reporter: now, the new revelation that at least one of the bombs was at some point transported on passenger planes has raised new security questions and puts new pressure on the u.s. government to

drugs. they based it on how many physical and social problems they caused. alcohol was named number one, scoring a 72 on a scale of 100. it was followed by heroin and then creek -- coming up -- she was the victim of a bizarre kidnapping. well, starting today she finally gets her day in court. 237 is busy. but nothing out of the ordinary. we do have a big backup at one of the bridges. we'll explain.

license plate numbers recorded by new security cameras in tiburon will soon be cross-checked with a criminal database. four cameras were installed on tiburon boulevard and paradise drive two weeks ago. as cars come in and leave tiburon, photos are taken of every single license plate. this week, the computer software will be in place that

allows the police to see if those plates are connected with any criminal activity. a new study shows 15 million homeowners are under water in their homes and half own 50% more than the value. the study by moody says millions of those homeowners continue to make house payments which could lead to further economic trouble down the road. that's because the people use all of their available money and not other forms of consumer spending. and that continues to drag on family finances an the overall economy -- and the overall economy. this morning there are two dozen vehicles sitting there. gm announced they were sutt shut -- were shutting down the

pontiac. they were known for powerful engines and fierce-looking grills. sal's back. he's gonna get you to where you need to go. it's been relatively quiet. >> yeah, it's been quiet. but we do have kind of a big backup at bay bridge toll plaza. earlier we had a stalled vehicle at the toll plaza -- not at the toll plaza, i'm sorry, on the bridge itself and that vehicle was removed but the traffic has not been the same since. as a matter of fact, it's been slow as you drive up to the span and there is a big backup at the toll plaza. it's backed up to the maze and the metering lights are on. we're looking at interstate 880 northbound and southbound. northbound 880 on the right looks all right. the morning commute in san jose is off to a nice start getting up to highway 15.

we're following developing news in san jose where firefighters and investigators are still on the scene of a fire right now. it started around 2:30 this morning on north 10th street. jade hernandez is in san jose with an update. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. a fire investigator i just spoke to has confirmed this is a suspicious fire. firefighters are still out here at this point, monitoring hot spots, but for the most part, they are wrapping up their effort. several calls came into

dispatch this morning, about two buildings on fire around 2:38 overnight. one a recycling facility, the other a bar here in san jose. the buildings are connected by an alleyway. sources told us initially this fire was suspicious and fires broke out in the area. a spokesperson told me there could be more information in the next hour. so as soon as we get more information, we'll pass it on to you. they are waiting for a full investigation to be completed. but the arson investigator did confirm this fire is suspicious. they say the fire quickly grew to four alarms. >> flames toward the rolf. we had had fire toward the back. we had had a third crew that went down the alley in between

to put out the fire in the rear. >> reporter: this fire affected union pacific cargo trains which used the tracks behind these buildings. the trains have been stopped. firefighters do not know for how long they want to keep that track open. but these two buildings, when they broke out it was around 2:38. it had aeffected those trains going on those tracks. of course, as i mentioned, we should have more information coming up for you within the hour. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. well, the giants could make bay area sports history tonight. they could win their first title since the team first moved to san francisco. >> aubrey huff, hits one to right, down -- >> that's still sweet to see. aubrey huff, buster posey homered as the giants shut out the texas rangers last night. the giants now lead the series

3-1. a win tonight would give them their first world series title since 1954. giants fans know you can't be too confident. if you think back to 2002, the giants were just eight wins away from beating the angels and blew a five-game lead in game six and lost game seven. plenty of giants' fans will be singing a familiar song tonight. >> that's supposed to be journey's 1981 song called "don't stop believein'." it's actually become their adopted theme song. they are singing it with gusto at the ballpark and in local

rosa police. it's 7:33. a disabled man who was hit by a b.a.r.t. train remains in critical condition this morning at eden medical center. he fell and was hit by a richmond-bound b.a.r.t. station and was pinned between it. it took investigators ten minutes to get hill out. 7:34. the cow palace is being investigated again after 17 young people had to be treated

for double and alcohol overdoses at a rave party. this happened friday night at an event called "the spook fest if the. it was promoted by a radio station. one emergency responder said there included drugs like ecstasy and cocaine. five months ago at another cow palace rave party. nine people were hospitalized. two of them died. state senator leland yee who represents the area air more -- area says more should be done. police say ernest sheer beat his pants inside their home in march of 2008. prosecutors say he was deep in

debt and wanted to stage a fake robbery so he could collect the $1 million inheritance. 44-year-old will lynch of san francisco turned himself into authorities on friday. he faces charges of assault for allegedly attacking a 65-year- old jesuit priest in may at the retirement home where the priest lives. lynch says the police arrested him when he was 7 years old along with miss brother who was 5. >> he took the two of them out in the wounded a -- woods and sexually -- forced them to have sex with him and he also forced them to have sex with each other. 7:36. this morning, the san mateo

cal fire was alerted to a scam by a santa clara county resident who got a call asking for a donation. tiburon's police chief is one of many government employees who is doing what's known as double-dipping. it's nothing illegal but even chief michael cronin says he's sensitive about this when so many are complaining about pensions. he already draws $184,000 when

he retired. he told "the new york times" after three years of retirement exgot bored, so he took the job as tiburon's police chief where he makes another $184,000 a year. the san francisco school district is cracking down on parents who lie about where they live to get their children into city schools. students who are caught will have to leave their schools immediately and their parents will have to pay in$4500 -- pay up to $4500. but families who turn themselves in will avoid the costs associated with getting caught and children will be allowed to finish the semester. let's get to sal. i know you are watching a problem in vallejo. what's happening? >> that's right. it's northbound columbus parkway on eastbound 80. now, 37 drivers can get through. i want to put it on the map for you. it's in this area of the bay.

80 east at the parkway area. it sounds like it could be a very serious accident. it will be causing traffic problems in that area. let's move along and take a look at the commute on highway 4 westbound as you drive up to the willow pass grade. that traffic is actually doing okay with no major problems. it's a little bit slow. but that's to be expected. this morning's drive on the westbound bay bridge approach, it's still slow as you drive up to the pay gates. just a little bit of fog out there. overall, sunny and warmer, we'll carry that into wednesday, maybe thursday. we will have night and morning fog. everything is looking good, coast, bay, we'll end up with a lot of 70s. mostly sunny and warmer. the clouds are lifting north. the jet stream is lifting north. it will stay there for a while. my computer might stay there.

investigation. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. yes. police are still searching for whoever is responsible for these multiple shootings. we are at the hall of justice where the investigation is underway. we don't know a lot except that multiple shots were fired and the shootings happened around 10:00 last night on connecticut in the potrero hill neighborhood. neighbors told ktvu that a 5- year-old man and his 3-year-old granddaughter just came home from a halloween party. they were gunned down as they were in their driveway. the man was hit once. the injuries to the little girl, numerous times. on dakota, a short distance away, a man was also found with life-threatening injuries. he, too, had been shot multiple times. at this point, we do not know if and how these victims knew each other or if these shootings were actually

jade hernandez is joining us. she's there now. you've been there all morning. what's the latest? >> reporter: there have been about a dozen suspicious fires here within the last week in san jose. the fire investigator cannot say if this fire is connected to those smaller fires within the past week. but the investigator is looking for an an origin right now. flames sparked outside one of or both of these buildings that caught fire overnight. firefighters will be out here monitoring hot spots. they wrapped you most of their effort. this is what happened overnight. several calls came into dispatch around two buildings on fire. one a recycling facility, the other a bar. the buildings are connected by an alleyway and are located on the 1000 block of north 10. the fire investigator says this fire mostly began outside and spread. and this fire is still

training. agency was alerted of the scam by a resident who got a call asking for a donation. well, tiburon's police chief is one of many double- dipping. it's not el legal but michael cronin says it's something that he is sensitive about when many people are complaining about inflated pensions. he already draws a pension of $184,000 when he rye tired in 2004. he told "the new york times" after three years of being retired, he got bored. so he took the job as tiburon's police department. that'ser with earns another $182,000 a year. in two years he will qualify for another pension. the san francisco school district is cracking down on parents who lie about where they live to get this children into city schools. students who are caught will have to leave their schools immediately and their parents will have to pay up to $500.
