content. channel 2 news. today's excitement turned into roweddiness in some parts of san francisco as some folks took it too far. on market street people jumped on top of buses and traffic was blocked as folks came into streets of the downtown area after that civic center celebration. it is not clear whether police made arrests but there are no reports of any injuries. there was one giant fan at today's event that did not get a warm reception. governor schwarzenegger. >> thank you very much. >> cheers turned to boos for the republican leader as he approached the crowd. despite the not so welcome reception, schwarzenegger welcomed his congratulations and for more on the san francisco giants you can watch the parade and see the coverage of the team's world series win and visit our website ktvu.com and click on the world series tab.

and jerry brown became california's once and future governor last night beating opponent meg whitman by more than a 10% margin. brown was california's youngest governor when i look leaked in 1974 by the age of 36. he is the oldest candidate to lead at the age of 72. >> all i can tell you is that i didn't create this mess and i will be straight and do everything can to make it world. >> he will take office on monday, january 3rd. meg whitman made a cheerful concession speech. the billionaire spent $141 million of her own money and received just more than 3 million votes. that means that meg whitman spent about $46 for each vote. no word on whether she plans on continuing a public career. senator barbara boxter will be rushing to washington for a

4th term. we was away from the cameras and press today. she spoke with her supporters in hollywood. her opponent waited to today to make her concession speech. >> i have spoken to senator box ter and congratulated her and wished her well. the arena thanked her supporters and said she would try to make sure that government works for the people and not the other way around. an official report shows boxster with 52% of the vote compared to fair rino with 42%. kyle harris is in a cliffhanger with steve coolly for the office of state attorney general. harris thinks she will ummly win but currently leads by only 15,000 votes which works out to .2 of a percent and there are thousands of absentee and provisional ballots that still need to be counted by some estimates and it could be weeks before a winner is declared. folk in oakland are going to have to wait awhile to find out

who is going to be that city's new mayor because of the new ranked voting system. as of 4:00, don per lotta had the lead but not the majority that he needs to win. the registrar's office has to do the math to figure out the winner and that will take time. we are live in oakland with more on the situation. rob. >> reporter: frank, the alameda register of voters is tabulating the votes and said it could be friday before we know who will be occupying the mayor's office here at city hall the next four years. at the registrar of voter's office today dozen of workers had mountains of ballots to sort and check. oakland is using new system called rank choice voting that allows voters to pick up to three candidates of preference. the register says the new system is not slowing down so far. >> usually fit is a close race you don't know the winner so it

has nothing to do with rank choice voting. >> under ranked choice voting if no candidate receives more than 50% the bottom candidates are redistributed to the voter's second choice until the candidate sefs the majority. >> i'll run that algorithm on friday afternoon and those won't be the final results by any means but it will give everybody a better idea of which candidate gets dropped off. >> candidate don per lotta is leading councilwoman jean qualm. the campaign manager has it over ranked choice. >> i don't think this process helped to clarify candidate's positions. >> oakland voters approached the system four years ago but it is just now taking effect. the big attraction of rank choice that's it saves taxpayer money by avoiding primaries and elections money that could go towards police and public parks by city council president jane broader says it short changes

maybe a head by a hair. at normal's barbershop it is about the race between democratic incumbent mcnurry and harmer. mcnury leads by 120 and the count continuing. dean understand us that he voted for mcnury last time but harmon this year. >> this time i went to hor man because of the fiscal issues. it has just gotten out of control. >> reporter: small business owner john mcnamey switched from the democrat to the republican. >> there's so much spending going on and for the future for the kids, they are never going to be able to reap out from that. >> there was quite a bit of talk about in that the shop. >> pretty friendly debate. >> yes, no fistfights over it. >> the candidates are glad of that and today both said they have reason to believe that ballots that arrived late will support them. >> we had 1500 workers on the get out the vote program in the last day and the last weeks leading up to that and we have knocked on one hundred thousand

doors and a lot of the ballots came in because of the program and i'm looking forward to see what they say. >> we have 35,000 ballots yet to be counted where performance have been strong and we are hopeful as they come in the lead that grew slender and vanished will reemerge. >> it appears that everybody in the town will have something to talk about for a a few weeks and that is not counting a possible recount. an uncertain future for silicon valley start up. it should be the economic future but the question is are their questions over that cloud. that story is still ahead. i'm we are tracking rain that is headed to the bay area. i'll tell you which days of the weekend will be wet.

china. >> this is a shakeout that we have been anticipating. >> reporter: the head of berkeley's night of business says in a depressed economy. >> the market should be picking winners and what worries me is when the government gets in and picks winners and some turn out not to be winners which will happen. is the government willing to say oh, that was a mistake or are they going to start throwing bad money after good. >> slender's ceo said its problems are way over blown. >> slender has tremendous growth prospects about 1,000 people in fremont and we will continue to have about 1,000 people and reduction is 30 and we in ten to hire about 30 sales and marketing people during the course of the year. >> reporter: but currently the industry has too much production capacity and not enough customers. important to remember that new technology have rough bumps at the beginning, don't forget that

apple almost failed several times. sales for the u.s. auto industry rose and that includes general motors where sales jumped three-and-a-half percent. sales of wagons and suvs were strong up 36% compared to october. buick, gmc and chevrolet were up 13%. buyers are growing more confident and new models are drawing more people into dealerships. >> stocks reach add new high after the federal reserve announced it would buy $600 billion in treasury bond, an effort to drive interest rates lower and spark more spending. the dow finished up 26 points ant nasdaq was up 7 points. workers in the tunnel after a construction accident this morning. cal train says that a worker was

entire life. >> the got to make it a great day and you might as well make it san francisco giants day in the city of san francisco. >> that was mayor galvin honoring the giants and proclaiming it san francisco giants day and they received a key to the city. the fans were 50 deep during the parade and overall the crowd was estimated about one million people celebrating their hometown heroes. what a crowd. >> amazing and mark is off and joe is in tonight to continue the wave of the giants celebration. >> and when they got here in '58, everybody thought they would do it earlier than 2010. the event many long-time fans thought would never come was

held in san francisco today. the san francisco giants were honored with a parade that celebrated their world series championship. bruce bochy was the carrier of the official hardware as thousands reveled where the team tried many times. since 1997 brian sabin knows the significance of what this team accomplished. >> we deserved this, northern california deserved this and san francisco deserved this and the organization did and the fans, it's the most interesting life experience than anybody could have. >> in spring training and to the torturous august to texas, seeing black and orange was so awesome and fun and exciting and made it so much fun to play

therein they're and -- and all i can say is thank you. on this day of celebration for the giants, former manager clyde king has died at the age of 86. the oakland as has cursed options on ellis and cocoa crisp which means they will be back and they did not do so for the injured chavez. our most images of vladimor, someone seen too freaky to play in the field and the rangers did not exercise the option to keep vladimore for another year. for the moment, everyone can bask in the glory for another day or two. >> and that's what they are doing. speaking of that the party continues in san francisco as the giants continue to celebrate
