this is ktvu channel 2news at six. >> good evening. i'm heather holmes. >> i'm ken wayne. the streets of oakland are back to normal after a peaceful rally turned violent. police say the protesters angry over yesterday's sentencing, broke an agreement with the department, leading to more than 150 arrests. jade hernandez reports. >> reporter: hours after police arrested 152 protesters the streets were quiet again. the only visible damage was a downed fence near the 12th street project. it was the same demonstrators tore down as they marched in to neighborhoods. >> they said they were going to start to down size because they wanted to stay with in the law, they didn't want to violate the permit until six. made me happy they were cooperating but i don't flow -- the crowd went the opposite direction. >> reporter: by morning

residents questioned their decision to not head to the agreed upon park in west oakland. >> why didn't they stay downtown? >> reporter: police say after an officer had his gun ripped from him the department declared the rally over. police reported some of the those marching threw rocks, bottles and missiles at officers, seven location was damaged. demonstrators said today they never saw the crowd get out of control. >> the protesters didn't get out of hand. we were marching just like it's said in the congress constitution. >> they said disperse and then arrested us. >> it was peaceful and anyone that i saw that looked like they were out to cause trouble, there were so few of them that even looked that way that i just wondered who they are. >> reporter: the demonstrators arrested last night may be out

today but they face charges. >> could have been a thousand times worse. >> reporter: that from an auto body shop owner. in oakland, jade hernandez. >> oakland police released a tally of those protesters who were arrested. again 152 people were taken in to custody. 145 were adults and seven were minors ranges 16 to 55. 56 of them live outside of oakland including in san francisco, berkeley and santa cruz. most were arrested for unlawful assembly. investigators are reviewing video. >> the two year prison sentence given down yesterday was closely watched by police departments. will the sentence change the way officers are trained or how they do their job? patty lee is live in oakland

with more on that part of the story. >> the changes have been obvious and immediate but the long term impact is still to be determined. >> reporter: brian prepares for a day of patrol. >> have to check batter level. >> reporter: taking care to put the taser on the front seat. >> in light of what happened with the former officer i have decided to no longer carry it on my person. it's no longer a primary tool. >> reporter: he said that was a personal decision. the shooting of oscar grant led to changes requiring that tasers be away from a gun and requiring a higher level of threat before firing one. the more lasting legacy may be a shift in how officers are trained and how they approach critical situations. >> to think about the

consequences of what they are doing, to think about how it's going to affect other people and if -- it's a huge responsibility because as i said they are making these decisions in a matter of seconds. >> reporter: expects say the tragedy has led to a push toward value based training that requires law enforcement to think big picture. others worry about the impact of pressing criminal charges against officers who act in the line of duty. >> i think that it'll cause officers to hesitate during critical periods when they need to react quickly. >> reporter: former san francisco police chief and professor said if there is something positive to come out of the trial it is this focus on preparation and the acknowledgement that if officers properly trained it can help eliminate second guessing. reporting live, patty lee.

>> our coverage continues at ktvu.com. you will find an enter active map showing where the violence happened in oakland last night. click on the case tab on the front page. >> right now police are searching west oakland for two gun men believed to be responsible for a double homicide. details still coming in but officers were called to the scene of 8th street around 3:30 this an. they found two bodies inside a car. the victims have not been identitied but officers say they are both african american men ages 18 and 22. police say the two gun men are still at large. gun fire rang out in oakland. one man died after being shot after a party. it happened just before 11:00 p.m. another man and a woman were also injured but are expected to recover. officers at the scene say they found another man suffering

from a gun shot wound later near 82nd avenue. police say he was shot in the hand. they think he may be responsible for the first shooting. oakland police responded to shots fired in 73rd avenue shortly after 11:00 p.m. they found an suv riddled bullet holes and shells on the ground. the victim was later found in a home a few blocks away. he was taken to the hospital with wound in his arm and leg. so far no arrests have been made in the case and no word on what led to the shooting. >> a small plane crash in the north bay injured two people. the plane took off shortly after one and only got about a half mile when it crashed between two warehouses. the pilot and the passenger were taken to the hospital. both men are expected to survive. an airport manager said the plane isn't locally registered. a witness said it sounded like it was having engine trouble. concerts and chaos after another incident at the cow

palace that led to a dozen people in the hospital. there are now calls to take it out of the state's hands. ken pritchett is live in daily city with more on the big push. >> reporter: right now the palace is hosting the san francisco bike expo but some say for all events promoters should seek the permission of the police department. their targets are the raids and concerts, some of which have resulted in death and hospital stays. the parking lot was packed for the bike expo but it wasn't the only event. outside a small group gathered demanding change. >> gives us local control. bringing the power back to the community and the residents. >> reporter: the councilman is pushing for new legislation in the wake of spook fest, a concert friday night that resulted in 17 people going to the hospital, some with signs of drug overdose. five months ago two died after

a rave. >> you are 16 and can go to this? there there is something not right with that. >> reporter: he said the permit is be approved first by the police chief and promoters should be held responsible for local police and fire costs. >> why should this community and these taxpayers bear the costs of a promoter? . of. >> reporter: the palace is state owned. some community leaders say it'sing overdue. >> the raves where 16-year-old and young kids are coming, it's just disturbing. . >> doesn't make sense. doesn't make sense. my feeling just tear the building down and bring us much needed resources to this community. >> reporter: the councilman said his proposal would give the police chief the power to deny permits but could events like the marijuana expo or an adult themed event be objected on moral grounds in the councilman said that's not the

intent. >> has the promoter met requirements? >> reporter: we were unable to reach the administration by phone today for comment and we were denied access today to this piece of state property. in daily city, ken pritchett. >> san jose police arrested five men for allegedly kidnapping a man and demanding a million dollars from his family. the men are now facing kidnapping robbery charges. police say the unnamed victim disappeared after 9:00 p.m. thursday night. the next day investigators found he was being held at a home in san jose. the five suspect was arrested there and the victim was found after jumping from a second story window. he was hurt in the fall and police say he was tasered by his kidnappers. he is expected to recover. police say they are trying to determine why the victim was kidnapped and if it had anything to do with drugs later found at his house. >> thousands of people waited

across bay. it was a nice day, areas of fog near thest shoreline, partly cloudy skies for a good portion of the bay area. more clouds expected from tonight. the extended forecast and little bit of a bump in the numbers. as far as rainfall totals you can see the expectations and most of the activity will be targeting the coastal hills, could have amounts approaching two inches and about a half inch to an inch. maybe approaching an inch, closer to san francisco. here is the storm we are watching this cold front. looks impressive on the satellite and this will be a big factor over the next 24 hours. here is the track into sunday and we are expecting rainfall to start early sunday, heaviest bands -- from tomorrow morning from around 6:00 until 12:00 tomorrow afternoon. after this point in time, we will slowly scale back on the rainfall coverage and

intensity. it'll be a gradual process. you can see the expectations. wind around 20 to 30 miles an hour and the sierra, this will be a snow producer, especially across the higher terrain. we have a winter storm warning lasting until 6:00 morn morning. snow fall will be on the order of ten to 20 inches above eight thousand feet. snow levels dropping late sunday, also into early monday morning. here is the forecast model showing you this. we will take it into sunday and those reds correspond to heavier rain. first thing tomorrow in to the early portion of the afternoon and then by seven and 8:00 tomorrow night we will scale back on the coverage. temperatures tomorrow will be continue to cooldown. a narrow temperature range. san jose 64, livermore 62 degrees and here is a look ahead. the five-day forecast, monday no rain, we pull back on it. tuesday a slight chance of a shower, mainly up in the north bay tuesday, late tuesday afternoon and into tuesday

artifacts from all the major wars. >> nice to see that there and concord, also nice to see stanford playing well. >> what's going on with the giants today? pretty good statement by stanford. the cardinal is hosting arizona. both teams bring 7-1 records in to the fame but stanford is leading 14-0 in the second quarter. with brock making his first start the bears will take the win against washington state trailing 10-7 in the third. the bears took the lead for good. ross on the end around, finds clear sailing, that's a 27-yard play. cal hangs on for the win. the bears 5-4. they are feeling it in eugene as oregon hosted washington. ducks quarterback thomas wants the pass. he decides to run. good decision. he goes 34-yards to the end
