let's go back to dave and pam. thank you. 6:01 is our time. we're going to start with overnight news. it involves a high school teacher accused of having sex with her male student. jade hernandez is joining us live now. good morning. good morning. this teacher is no long never jail this morning. she is a teacher at rodriguez high. we have learned from the jail that she has been released on bail. the jail did not know how much her bail had been set at. a 27-year-old felicia killings is a teacher as i mentioned earlier. the sheriffs office confirms that killings is accused of haves sex with a 17-year-old student. the jailhouses the teach sore charged with statutory rape, child endangerment, first

period does not start until 8:00 this morning. we have contacted authorities and hope to hear back from them soon. reporting live jade hernandez. an alameda woman is recovering after a terrifying attack by raccoons. she is one of several victims since june. it happened in the area of alameda at a park. ktvu channel 2 reporter christian captain is there with live information. >> reporter: let's go ahead and show you what may be drawing them to the area. you see the dumpster right here. raccoons obviously looking for scraps for food. that may be what's drawing them closer to people and bringing them into proximity. the latest attack happened on sunday and the victim said it was something out of a horror movie. >> i knew it was a bite, but i don't remember pain.

i was screaming bloody murder. >> reporter: so far there have been nine attacks since june. the latest victim was bitten on the leg. she was walking her dog when an aggressive raccoon approached her. four more animals joined in on that attack. she was able to get under way and under going a series of a bees shots. >> i had to get a tetanus shot and a rabies vaccination and i have to go back for three more shots of a bees. a wildlife experts are speculating the raccoon speculation -- animal control officers are trying to trap the raccoons. they say more than likely they will not youth noise them because that's a -- euthanize them because that's an

unpopular idea. everybody that combs here to washington park has some story about the raccoons. we talked to joggers this morning they have seen raccoons. it's an issue ongoing here at washington park. we're live in alameda. tensions are also rising in one east oakland neighborhood. police are defending their actions after officers shot and killed an unarmed man. now authorities have identified the man killed on track street monday night as derrick jones. investigators say they fired on him after he repeatedly reached for his waistband and produced what officers believed to be a metal object. police say moments earlier he attacked a woman at a laundry mat. >> he attacked her and choked her. >> she was a family guy. just had a daughter. she was only two years old.

she was the nicest dude around. he wouldn't hurt a fly. >> last night dozens of people gathered outside the oakland barbershop he owned to bay attribute. members of jones' family are meeting with attorney john burrless who also represents oscar grants family. you can get more information on this by going to our website ktvu.com. 6:05. we go back to sal even though so far this morning it has been quiet in the commute. >> it has been quiet this morning. if you are driving out in the bay area roads i think you will see a pretty light commute. we are look at a bay bridge. right now traffic will be light here. they have turned the melterring lights -- they have turned the metering lights on. we'll have another traffic report in a few minutes.

there is low in nevada. that is a cold system dropping in. high pressure right around here. starting to move in. after that system goes by we'll see that built in and by the weekend it looks breezy and warmer. today we have clouds a few light showers. peninsula toward monterey bay. we have light fog. it looks like a north, northeast wind. it means breezy and warmer. >> thank you. protest in long beach are planned today as university trustees meet for a final vote of increasing tuitions. one idea will increase tuition by 5% or $105 starting in january. the other would increase tuition by an extra $440 next fall. it's possible the fall increase could be rescinded if state lawmakers approve extra funding

in the state budget. san francisco mayor gavin newsom is promising he will veto the so-called happy meal decision. city ss voted to make san francisco the first city in america to ban fast food restaurants from giving away toys with meals. the proposed law is designed to help childhood obesity. parents not politicians should decide what children eat. they have enough votes to override the mayors veto. one local company is handing out raises. big ones to every one of its employees. the reason it wants to pay more right in the middle of a very tough economy. and i will tell you how president obama is trying to use the g-20 summit in south korea to create more jobs in the u.s.. that is coming up as the morning news continues.

as next week. board president david chew wants a process laid out first. the person selected would serve the final year. in just a couple hours state senator leeland yee will hold a press conference. he plans to run for mayor of san francisco. he has served one term in the state senate. he was elected to a second term. he represents the cities west side including large parts of the richmond and sunset districts. and in the oakland mayor race still no final results yet. the alameda county register of voters says he will not release any updates until the ballots are counted. the latest numbers were released last friday. they showed at that time council woman gene quan with a slight lead over don perata in

its group line to mexico for $959 million. that company is known in the u.s.. you getting hungry? >> yes, i am. >> executives says the deal allows them to focus on their frozen cheesecake and deli meat. a vallejo county won a contract to scrap two of the ships. allied company will be paid $3 million to dismantle the ships. that could lead to other contracts. until now those ships were taken to the golf or east coast. allied defense is promising to hire local workers to do the jobs. dog owners in pacifica might want to pay more attention to leash laws. after two years of debates the

city council voted to enforce those existing leash laws to protect an endangered bird. new signs and fencing will be installed. it was listed as an endangered species in 1993. a candle light vigil will be held tonight for a nurse killed by an inmate. cynthia palomata died after being hit on the head with a lamp. the vigil at 6:00 tonight. 6:22 a real scare for both children and parents. they were sent running inside an elementary school because of a surprise visitor. parents waiting to pick up their kids when a bob cat was spotted on a hill right near the kindergarten. the school went into lock down. parents ran inside. the bob cat disappeared.

they have a lot of snow. the snow is sticking and it is cold in blue canyon. just wanted to show you that real quick. thousands of people off a cruise ship is slowly being towed. mexican tug boats are take -- the ship sailed from long beach on sunday but lost power monday after an engine fire broke out. the fire left the ship with no air conditioning, no hot water, and no cell phone service. navy helicopters have been fairing supplies. this is not your typical thing to have on a cruise. the passengers are eating spam, pop tarts, and canned crab meat. it is expected to be in san diego by tomorrow night. 16 people are behind bars this morning after a major gang sweep around the bay area. 23 locations were raided in seven cities yesterday. in addition to the arrest one

ton of marijuana was seized from five grow houses in vallejo and hayward. officers also confiscated guns and $100,000 in cash. the alleged gang members are linked to a variety of violent crimes. >> we learned they were involved in distribution in ecstasy and marijuana. >> the accused gang members have been booked into santa claire are county jail. a bizarre attack in alameda. and she is not the only victim. how many attacks officials are dealing with. and good morning i'm jade hernandez we're live in fairfield this morning. a teacher is accused of wrong doing with a mail student. she was released from jail this morning. we'll have more on that coming up.

to employees here. i spoke with a woman who works in the kitchen she just arrived. she didn't know of last nights arrest and she didn't know the teacher involved here. felicia killings is an english teacher here. we learned from the jail this teacher was released on bail. they did not know how much the bail was set at. they confirm that killings is accused of having sex with a 16- year-old student. the incident did not take place on school property. the student is now 17 years old. the solano county jail tells us she has been charged with statutory rape and child endangerment. we have contacted the authorities and tried to contact the school and we hope to hear back from either or later on this morning to give you a little more in detail. we'll have more of that coming up. reporting live jade hernandez.

attacks. since june the most recent attack on sunday night. the victim in that case says it was something out of a horror movie. this latest victim was bitten on the leg and said she was attacked by a total of four raccoons. she was walking her dog here in washington park when an aggressive raccoon approached her. four more of the animals dropped out of the trees and joined in on that attack. she says she and her dog ran as fast as she could. she tripped and fell down to the ground and that's when they swarmed on top of her. >> i knew it was a bite. i don't remember pain. i was just screaming bloody murder. help me. help me. >> the victim in this case was able to escape. she is recovering and under going a series of a bees shots and tetanus shots. her dog was uninjured. the raccoon population here is booming and there is increasing competition for food and that may be leading to more

aggressive behavior. they say they will not be catching and killing the raccoons. they say euthanizing them is not a popular option. they will try to control that access to the food source. they will try to make sure there is less food in the area. they hope that will decrease the raccoon population or encourage them to go for food elsewhere. we are live here in alameda. 6:34. a fire that destroyed a san jose autobody shop is being investigated this morning. crews rushed to the automarket and truck shop shortly before 9:00 last night. that building and three cars were engulfed in flames. firefighters had to evacuate a nearby home that was briefly threatened but luckily no one was hurt. the only fire station in the marin head lands will close today. they began closing the station back in september. it's part of a cost cutting

move to disban the fire department and save three quarters of a million dollars. the southern marin fire district will handle emergency calls in the marin headlands. they are warning business owners to take extra precautions following three downtown burglaries. something old something new store was hilt on october 21st and christy james jewelers on sunday. now the burglars broke into all of the businesses at night stealing cash, jewelry, and computers. 6:36 the new clipper cars used to pay fairs on multiple bay area transit lines. it has a flaw in it and costing taxpayers money. they can ride anywhere for just $2. that's because the clipper schoolyards allow rider -- clipper cards allow riders to

good morning to you. welcome back. here's a quick look at some of the top stories. oakland police are defending their actions after officers shot and killed an unarmed man. 37-year-old parolee derrick jones was shot and killed. they shot jones after he reached for his waistband and pulled out what officers believed was a metal object. college students plan to stage protest in long beach today. they need to take a final vote on tuition hikes. if approved tuition would go up by 5% beginning in january and by another 10% next fall. there is still no official explanation of what this was that streaked through the skies off the coast of southern california monday evening. the pentagon says they didn't fire anything off. some of the experts say it may with the water vapor trail of a jet.

a food fight of sorts is heating up in satgoing major ga planning to veto a law of banning kids meals. but it will not go without a fight. kraig debro is joining us now. >> reporter: part of the fight will be on behalf of the kids. i know mine love to go to mcdonalds because they can get the happy meal and this toy. yesterday the board of supervisors in san francisco passed an ordnance which would ban these kids meals from being sold with a toy. the toy becomes the hook. that could lead to serious help problems. supervisor erik proposed the ordnance. it says no restaurant can sell a fast food kids meal that has 660 sodium -- so it's not just mcdonalds it's all fast food restaurants. if they are not sold with the toy the same meals can still be

sold to kids. the 8-3 vote is veto proof. parents should decide what their kids eat and not politicians. mcdonalds sent several executives to meetings yesterday that oppose the measure. mcdonalds and burger king are among -- have joined involuntary effort. the meals they provide or advertise the kids meet government standards. my next report i will be trying to speak with parents about what they are going to do if this goes forward. as many of you know, the kids want the meal and the toy and parents don't want the tantrum. they don't get it. reporting live in san francisco kraig debro. former usf basketball star quintin daily has died at the age of 49. he has died from cardiovascular disease.

he spent ten seasons in the nba. he had a troubled pass. daily pleaded guilty attempting to assault a nursing student. the incident played a key role in usf suspension of its basketball program for a number ofeers. recently daily was working with at risk kids in las vegas. some members of michael jackson's families are pretty angry about the recent debut of a new song. now listen to that. the song is called breaking news. it's part of an album of new material released next month. some jackson members say they don't believe that is the voice of michael jackson on that track. however a long-time producer and the record label is claiming, no that is authentic. it is michael jackson. the bay areas newest car pool lane opens this morning.

the san mateo bridge it looks windy. you see the white caps or the water moving around. we'll ask steve about that. he knows. westbound 80 that traffic is okay. traffic is going to be all right. there is a minor accident east 80 but west 80 is not effected. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. we are getting a northwest breeze. still a couple little showers holding on. there is also fog being reported right there. that will go down highway 1. why not? it went by half-moon bay. otherwise we have partly to mostly partly cloudy to mostly clear. there is fog out there. it will be mostly sunny and breezy. you can see it dropping right down there. drier air is beginning to move in. there will be clouds off the coast as the cooler air rides over the ocean temperatures. sun and clouds today. still on the cool side.

temperatures below average. the only question i have here some things don't make sense to me. all the record highs expect for santa rosa were set on this date. san francisco 82. oakland 79. san jose 84. santa rosa says 74 in 2005. you are probably saying the same thing i am. that doesn't make any sense. that's what they say. temperatures today 60s and low. these are near average to slightly below. by the weekend we will start to see temperatures going above. 44 in napa and santa rosa. everybody is pretty close. patchy fog being reported. the last rain in the past 24 hours. after that it trails off. san jose in there. crocket .08. and livermore .05. mountain view .05. lake tahoe 32.

secretly tracking users lists. internet companies and the obama administration haven't agreed on any limits or how they should be enforced. let's check in on wall street. here's a live look at the big board on the new york stock exchange. dow jones down almost 60 points to 11,288. numbers down across europe this morning and a couple of things responding to the weekly jobless claims unemployment numbers that came in were a little bit disappointing. we also had trade deficit narrows in september. and other than that, there isn't anything big coming up but perhaps still more profit taking after big gains last week. the company thatons east ridge, south land, and three other bay area mall has emerged from bankruptcy. they filed for chapter 1119 months ago.
