of the alleged rape victim against the west contra costa county unified school district. the terms and the details of the case have been sealed, but a school board member told us today that the district thought settling was the appropriate action in order to let the victim heal and to move on with her life. parole agents will now monitor a marin county man accused of starving his son to death and abusing his 12 other children. and he is seen here, and he led a group called the family, which included five women and 13 children, and his 19-month- old son died in 2001 from starvation. the marin county district attorney says wright will be released on monday after serving the minimum of his 16- year sentence. the d. a. appealed to the corrections department after learning wright was going to be released on unsuper viced parole. it is a place for parents to take their children for good family fun, but it turned into a horrifying intense as three masked gunmen stormed the building. today the police released

individual yes of that attempted take over robbery. ktvu is at the chuck e. cheese restaurant with the details. >> reporter: the detectives working a couple of leads at this hour in connection with this case, a case that involves those three men, guns drawn, children dropping to the floor. it was quite the scene inside this venue avenue that is known for family and fun. a teenager boy with a gun pointed at his face inside a chuck e. cheese. >> i would never have thought of it. absolutely not. absolutely not. it is just really sad. >> reporter: a the time was just before 10:00 saturday night. >> i'm sure it is very traumatic, especially for the children, and very, very aggressive take over. >> reporter: the police commander bob douglas rewinds the image and takes us from the top. the young employee is seen assisting a couple of customers. seconds later, the cameras capture the first robber storming into the building with a gun in hand.

>> and ordered him to the ground while the two others round up the patrons and the employees of the restaurant, ordered them to the ground. you'll hear people saying don't hurt my children, things like that. >> reporter: douglas says the masked men corralled the 40 customers and attempted to get the restaurant's cash but did not succeed. the commander says the customers called 911 from their cell phones. the police arrived within three minutes and the armed robbers were gone. >> i wouldn't feel safe to bring my kids back. >> reporter: and this mother says she won't until the three men are in custody. >> it is an unfortunate thing, but, i mean, there are people out there that are on drugs or certain other things that it is going to affect them, and they're going to go and do whatever they need to do to run their life. >> reporter: and, again, the police are working a few leads in this case. of course, they can always use more. if you have information about it, just give them a call

there. reporting live tonight, ktvu channel 2 news. a pedestrian was struck and killed today in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood when she was hit by a ucsf shuttle van. it happened around 12:30. the witnesses say the woman was in the cross walk crossing the street when the van made a turn on to the street and hit her. she ended up dying at the scene. the coroner is not releasing her name, but says she is in her mid 60s. the driver of the van was not cited or arrested. a 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter in a collision that killed a classmate. three others were hurt when the driver lost control on a curve and hit a big rig truck. the boy also pleaded to guilty to driving under the influence and driving without a license. the driver's name has not been released because of his age. he is said to be sentenced on december 2. the results of a two-year study are out on a controversial proposal to charge those who drive in and out of san francisco.

the idea has already sparked outrage. we are live now with a look at who is being targeted and how it would all work. maureen? >> reporter: some of those people being targeted are right behind me. take a live look now at northbound 280. the drivers headed here to the city, those are the targets because officials say those on the peninsula are least likely to use public transportation to get to san francisco. they're floating charging $6 during the morning and evening commute. if you leave your heart in san francisco, you may have to pay to get it back. the two-year study looks at using electronic fast track technology to use drivers $3 dure in and out gurring peak weekday travel. the idea is in the infant stages, but has already sparked anger from some commuters. >> i don't agree with it. i mean, it is just another way to make revenue, but us working people can in the afford.

this. >> it is ridiculous. it is ridiculous. and who came up with this, anyway? >> reporter: the san francisco transportation authority, which says its study shows the idea would reduce traffic and improve air quality. >> this isn't about san francisco building a mote around itself. >> reporter: the goal, he says, is to invest the $60 million plus each year to improve transportation. >> this would essentially be a way to encourage people who are commuting every day in their cars to think about other alternatives. >> reporter: but this councilmember says it would unfairly tax san mateo county residents. >> we're going to get $60 million of your money and we're going to apply that for transportation programs. to me, fundamentally wrong. absolutely wrong, and we're going to fight it. >> reporter: the idea is years from imputation and faces big hurdles, including approval from the state. the next step is to take the results of this study before the transportation board next

the church. ktvu's paul chambers is in oakland with the story. paul? >> reporter: today the church leaders came out and said they received thousands of dollars to combat gun violence. this announcement came less than 24 hours after the 46-year- old leon wilson was gunned down right here at the foot of the church. this event, as tragic as it is, enforces the need for us to provide programs in this community community. >> reporter: wilson, who was released from prison about a month ago, was taking ged classes here. those who interacted withhim say he was an easy going person. and just before noon yesterday, witnesses say he was in the classroom when he received a phone call. the witnesses claim they overheard wilson say i'll be right out and moments later the shots were fired. >> and today the church leaders announced they received a grant worth more than $4 30,000 to create and implement programs

out of making his final speech in office, and instead the mayor posted his state-of-the- city address online. in it he says the business and employment are improving and crime is down, but oakland residents say they don't feel any safer. >> we need a lot more direction and what to do with our police force. >> reporter: the lack of a public speech is fueling some rumors that he may leave office early. he is said to be seeking a lobbying job in washington, d.c. and paid speaking engagements to help pay a $25 2,000 tax bill. california's budget crises is topping governor-elect jerry browne's agenda. the governor elect was in sacramento earlier this week to get a briefing on the situation from the state budget officials. brown's office says he will return to the capitol again in the coming days. brown takes office on january 3. the state constitution requires his budget proposal by january 10. and a citizens advocacy group is raising concerns tonight about a political

conference going on in maui this week. 22 state lawmakers from both parties are at the california independent voter project. the non-partisan group, the california common cause, says it is a lobbying trip for the prison guards' union, pg&e, pharmaceutical companies and other groups. state law requires the lawmakers to disclose any with gifts received from special interest groups. the former candidate for governor meg whitman has reached a financial settlement with her former housekeeper. she will pay her $5,5 -- $5,500 for alleged underpayment of wages. the attorney said she had proof that her client was underpaid. we're speaking out today because nicky also wants other housekeepers to know that they have a right to be paid for all of the hours that they work. >> reporter: a spokesman for whitman called to complain of a

have improved. >> the state's prematurity rate dropped from 10.9% to 10.5% and, therefore, more babies in california will be born full term. >> reporter: the health officials say premature births can lead to a number of health complication ins a baby, including crier brail papsy. they say that's why it is important for women to billion healthy before they conceive. the march of dimes also discourages pregnant women from scheduling when their babies are born before their natural due date. and it was a calmer day on wall street today. the markets remained markedly steady on the knews that britain may come to the aid of debt ridden ireland. the dow jones lost a little more than 15 points and the nasdaq was up about -- a little over six points. foreclosures are forcing down prices in some of the markets hardest hit by the housing crises. san francisco's-based research firm says the price cuts have hit an all-time high in 15 u.s.
