it's monday november 22nd. i'm pam cook. >> and i'm dave clark. we do have partly cloudy skies. it's cold and it could be worse. we start with 40s and a few showers. really it's an between day. there is one more system that will drop down late tonight into tuesday. occasionally there is an isolated shower. westbound highway 4 at eighth street in antioch there is an accident there. you may see the tow trucks and chp with flashing lights. also the morning commute looks okay on 24 westbound as you drive to oakland. it's 6:00 let's go back to dave and pam. thank you. a man who police say sexually salted a young girl in her home in berkeley is on the run. ktvu tara moriarty is live in berkeley with more on where the

police say this suspect is heading. >> reporter: around this same time berkeley police were called to this neighborhood after hearing a report of a home invasion and rape. we're here off of evelyn street. that's where authorities believe 27-year-old omar sosa had broken into an unlocked bedroom window and sexually assaulted a young girl. police say they wouldn't have been able to identify sosa without the victims help. >> you want to talk about someone's salient every -- valiant efforts it's her. >> reporter: authorities have good reason to believe that sosa is trying to escape into mexico. he may be driving a gray 1997 ford ranger pickup truck. it's a double cab with a white camper shell. officials do not have a license plate number at this time. berkeley detectives have

alerted law enforcement from the bay area down to the mexico border. as for the victim she was treated at a hospital and released. meanwhile sosa will face charges ranging from burglary to said my and rape. there is snow on some of the bay area highest peaks. you can see a blanket of snow. about five inches of fell on mount hamilton over the weekend. chains are required on some of the major highways into the sierra. over the weekend blustery winds covered the streets. it looks like a bit like a parking lot yesterday as an entire lane of traffic had pulled over so drivers could put on their chains. vehicles were only allowed a few miles past that point without them. >> it's a lower snow level that's what is causing people a

little bit of surprise. it's more of january snow level than november. >> chains are required on interstate 880 from gold run to the north dakota state line -- to the nevada state line. also you have all wheel drive or snow tires. there is plenty of snow out there for skiers and snow borders. the lifts are up and running at north star, squaw valley. alpine meadows will open december 10th. overnight news a dangerous situation in pacifica where firefighters reminding homeowners take precaution this winter. just hours ago the residents at this house woke up to the smell of smoke. they left logs smoldering in the fireplace. he grabbed a garden hose and put out the fire before firefighters got there. no one was hurt.

firefighters are reminding all of us make sure fireplace fires are completely out before you go to bed. the city of oakland will decide who will receive the four valuable permits needed to run a medical marijuana farm. thpermits are expected to go to the wealthiest growers since the price of a single permit is $211,000 a year. last summer oakland became the first city in the nation to license large scale pot cultivation. a black bear has been seen roaming around marin county. the bear was last spotted a week ago more than a mile from the bear valley trail near seashore headquarters. it has also been spotted at tomales bay point. for now they are going to leave the animal alone. >> you know those areas as well. >> yes, i do.

6:04. sal, i know you are keeping an eye on antioch what is happening there? >> there is a crash on westbound 4 it's on the shoulder. that is a wide part of the freeway as you know. it gets narrow again and then gets wide here at bay point. and people always ask me when is the widening going to be done and it will be a few more years i'm afraid for that stretch of highway 4. that is why traffic is always bad. right now that accident son the shoulder westbound 4 at eighth street. let's move along and take a look at westbound 80. not a big delay but we are seeing a bit of a back up here at the toll plaza. at 6:15 they turn the metering lights on. and if you are driving in the southbound northbound 101 traffic looking pretty good. i sent out a tweet asking how many people are already on vacation this week and i only got one back saying i wish. lol. so i guess a lot of people are

we'll also go for a high of 56. 43 now napa and santa rosa. san jose has dipped to 44. reno 44. 40s from eureka, redding, and ukiah. don't always see that in november. the system that has dropped behind me it's coming late down out of the north for a late monday night and tuesday morning. and this will be extremely cold air. so today most of today a little bit of sun. clouds cool. rain returns for us tuesday morning. we're on the western edge of this. it will be more of a dynamic system for the mountains. it will be dry on wednesday and thursday but very cold. lows will dip into the 20s around here. for the sierra they are measuring snow and feet. there will be a powdery snow up there as we get past tomorrow.

there will be a lot of snowfalling and more now. winter storm warning kicks in again tonight. another couple of feet will fall along with the wind cranking up and extremely cold air will be plunging into the mountains. for us sun and clouds today. continue cool. highs in the 50s. mid 50s for many today. that system plunges in here for morning rain on tuesday and turning very cold those are 20s for lows wednesday, thursday inland. not on the coast but it will be cold around here and better on friday. we talked a lot about people frustrated about airport screening. we have the story of one man that was so fed up that he stripped down to his underwear. and new this morning the head of the tsa is talking about whether those controversial pat downs are here to stay. i will show you what he has to say coming up as the morning news continues.

welcome back. time now 6:11. the passenger at san diego's airport angry about the new tsa screening procedures stripped down to his underwear to show security screeners he's not a danger to anyone. when he refused to put his clothing back on to go through the pat down procedure he was arrested. police also confiscated his iphone he was using that to record the whole incident and

he confiscated a video camera used bay person that was traveling with him. as we head into one of the busiest travel weeks of the year the tsa is dealing with one of its busiest controversies. they went on tv to defend the security checks at the airport. alison burns is covering this controversy. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, pam. president obama is not happy about the pat down secretary of state hillary clinton said she would opt out of getting one if she could and the outrage seems to be growing among the traveling public. there is a lot of talk about the cell phone video showing a boy getting a security pat down his dad had taken off the boys shirt to move the process along. tsa says the parents should not do. the whole incident is raising questions why kids are being targeted. john pistol went on tv this morning. he did not seem to budge on the

tough airport security. >> we're always looking at ways to evolve our technology and our protocols how we go about doing this. in the short-term there will not be any changes. >> reporter: members of congress are calls for changes. ron paul wants a traveler dignity act to pretect against the physical and emotional abuse of the tsa. barbara boxer wants a trusted traveler program to exempt prescreened passengers from the process. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. travelers furious with the new airport security measures are calling for a national day of protest on wednesday. one of the busiest travel days of the year. it's called national opt out day. travelers are asked refuse the body scans.

north korea advance facility is part of an energy program. it appears to be a uranium enrichment facility. last week north korea showed off the top secret security to a visiting scientist from stanford. the professor told the new york times he was stunned. san franciscans could become the first city in the country to require drug companies to collect and dispose of used or expired drugs. pharmaceutical companies say the expense of this could drive up drug prices. supporters of the idea says unused drugs are often thrown in the trash or flushed down the toilet. let's check in with sal.

service agents wouldn't talk about. but now two agents are breaking the silence. sandra is here with the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it certainly is a very fascinating account of what happened 47 years ago today when president john f. kennedy was tragically assassinated. we have seen the pictures of the very young charismatic president making his way in dallas texas through this parade route and it was very interesting to note in this book called the kennedy detail written by two secret service members they recount the president just days before his assassination saying he really want his agents that are there to protect him work every day to protect his safety. he wanted them to scale back a little. he said to them we're in the middle of an election we've got to be accessible to the people and that was really what the charm was of john f. kennedy. keep in mind. so the agents at this moment at

this rally on this parade route did in fact hop off of the limousine and walk beside the car. again it was the urging of the president to be more accessible to the people. they do not blame the president in this book for urging that. they still say it was up to them to preserve the safety of the president and save his life. so certainly very chilling accounts of what happened that day and a clear indication of the witness that these secret service detail agents had and the access ability they had to this president and their version of what exactly happened that fatal dave. >> i can't wait to read the book myself. the continuing controversy i don't know if you have an answer to this question. if there was more than one bullet fired. do you know if that pops up in the book from the secret service agents? >> reporter: it's interesting in their account in terms of who exactly shot the president

zaire are -- sarah shourd, shane bauer, and josh fattal. sarah shourd had not been summoned to attend. she was freed on bail back in september. pg&e says they are considering new options for its customers that are opposed to the controversial smart meters. the wireless meters can cause cancer or contribute to other diseases. pg&e denies that and says the smart meters are safe. however, the ceo of pg&e says the utility is looking for a compromise for any concerned customers. it didn't indicate where that might mean. police have a warning about a new scam targeting the elderly. it starts with a phone call. the scammers tell people they have won the lottery along with other prizes but they have to seabed money to jamaica for

taxes. >> i really -- he had convinced me so i went ahead and mailed the $400 to jamaica. >> the conartist build a relationship with their victims. many seniors refuse to believe they are being scammed. the fbi says u.s. citizens sent $30 million to jamaica. questions are being raised about uc berkeley plan to build a new art museum in the wake of tuition hike. the project is expected to cost $96 million. only half that money has been raised. the university says it could provide $20 million if fundraising goals are not met. it's not clear where that money would come from a campus spokesman says no student fees would be used. an emergency shelter has been set up in san jose for 1,000 domestic rats. look at these pictures. these are baby rats.

a minute. and we'll smile and say good morning to you. thank you for joining us. monday november 22nd i'm dave clark. >> i'm pam cook. time now is 6:30. a man who police say sexually assaulted a young girl in her bedroom in berkeley is on the run this morning. it happened early saturday morning on evelyn avenue. tara moriarty is in berkeley with more on where police think this suspect is heading. good morning. >> reporter: good measuring. a state-wide man hunt is under way for a berkeley man that sexually assaulted a young girl. we're here off of evelyn avenue where detectives believe 27- year-old omar sosa climbed through an unlocked bedroom window and attacked the girl. >> at this point we believe he has fled the bay area and heading south toward mexico if a-- south toward mexico to

avoid an arrest. >> reporter: he may be driving a gray 1997 ford ranger pickup truck. it is a double cab with a white camper shell. officials do not have a license plate number at this time. police did say the victim was able to give an identity of the victim rather quickly and they are calling her efforts to further this investigation along heroic. time now 6:32. a va lay moe han is -- a vallejo man is in critical condition after being shot at a comedy club. this happened on texas street just after midnight. the 29-year-old victim was shot once in the abdomen area but is expected to survive. police are calling it a chaotic scene. several fights broke out and the people refused to leave.

officers are still trying to identify the shooter and a possible motive. also this morning oakland police are still looking for the driver involved in a hit and run crash that killed a 91- year-old man. alameda county coroner has identified the victim of ty. police say ty was just hit after 6:00 a.m. friday on 14th and market street. he died at the scene. they say the driver of a four- door sedan left the scene before officers arrived. still no arrests have been made. if you have any information about this case, contact the police. in antioch the search continues for a driver police say left his passenger behind after a horrifying crash. police say the driver of a 1999 silver election us suv crashed into a tree on moe hogny way.

a 19-year-old man was trapped inside and died later at the hospital. the weekend storms provided a light show in parts of the bay area. we want to take a lack at the bay -- we want to take a look at the bay bridge. here's what it looks like. take a look at the bright light and then that. the shot was taken from our roof camera at the top of the bank of america building in san francisco. a cal tran spokesperson says the lightning didn't cause any problems for the bridge. >> those towers are all steel and stand over 500 feet tall and act like lightning rods and electricity wants to just go to ground. >> the cal tran person says it's not unusual for the bridge to be hit by lightning though he's never seen it hit simultaneously like that. the strikes may have caused

blackening at the top of the towers that may have to be painted. 6:34 very impressive sal. how are things happening at the toll plaza? >> there is a big crowd there. traffic is going to be busy at the toll plaza. it's backed up beyond the 880 crossing and the metering lights are on. there is no major problems but it looks like it will be a pretty typical commute at least for this first hour. we'll see what happens the rest of the week. just moving along and take a lock at 237 some stop and go traffic there. you can see traffic is moving along okay as you drive over to sunnyvale. this mornings commute will been all right. we already have a slow traffic coming in and 680 interchange. traffic is slow in typical part of antioch. let's go to steve.

four people were shot at east 28th and 12th avenue. one of the victims died. three others were driven to or drove themselves to the hospital. this happened around 8:40 last night. one person is in critical condition. police have not made any arrests. just this morning cq released its annual list of the most dangerous cities. they include violent crimes as well as property theft. weakland is oakland is number five richmond is six. the most dangerous city in america is st. louis, missouri. the safest is colony,new york. people we spoke to say they are surprised. reporting live in oakland kraig

debro ktvu channel 2 news. in southern california an 86-year-old woman was found shot to death in her bed at a nursing home yesterday. her husband of almost 70 years was found sitting right next to her with a gun in his pocket. he was arrested on suspicion of murder. the couples daughter said her mothers mind was gone and her shooting death was a mercy killing. volcanic activity has released hundreds of ash into the air. it is the sixth explosion in recent weeks. government officials say they don't expect a stronger eruption but people are being warned to keep their distance from that volcano. experts in new zealand are preparing to send a military robot into the mine where 29 men have been trapped intense friday. the robot will be fitted with a

camera to check conditions. toxic gases have prevent rescuers from going into the mine and there has been no contact with the missing men. two miners were able to able escape. authorities in utah have named a person of interest now in the shooting of a park ranger as they continue to search for the gunman for a third straight day. more than 160 officers searched an area -- searched an area 20 miles southwest of moad. they found a parked car belonging to lance and believe he may be the gunman. the 34-year-old victim remains in critical but stable condition. later today investigators are expected to release new details about a death of a man in concord. they found the body of 33-year- old brian erb at a room in a lodge in idaho. investigators say there is no sign of foul play.

building material. those stories and more coming up on mornings an 2. authorities right now are investigating a small plane crash at orange county where three people were killed. it was a single engine plane that crashed into the waters near new port rt beach. the pilot reported some sort of problem on his way from mexico to the city of thank you. firefighters followed that plane and found it right there upside down in the water. they tried to perform a rescue there but the pilot and two passengers did not s are beginning a new program call alert. two programs are planned and two teachers at three middle schools are being trained to teach students how to resist drugs. a higher rate of marijuana use and drinking at berkeley high than at other schools.
