it's monday november 29th i'm pam cook. >> i'm kraig debro in for dave clark. let's get a lock at weather and -- let's get a look at weather and traffic. we have low 30s. sunshines in the 50. low to mid 50s should cover it. we'll take a look at the five- day coming up in six minutes. here is sal. traffic on the east shore freeway is definitely more crowded. the traffic continues to move well to the bay bridge toll plaza. there is not a big crowd yet. 6:01 let's go back to the desk. we begin our 6:00 hour with overnight news from marin county. the investigation is under way for a fire that injured two people including a firefighter. jade hernandez joins us from san rafael. >> reporter: we are a half mile away from where the fire began.

we can show you the apartment building with the fire started just after midnight. we learned from the fire chief this morning the firefighter hurt was treated and released from the hospital. he suffer a large gash on his face. the resident living inside the apartment which caught fire after midnight suffered first and second degree burns and smoke inhilllation. luckily for a resident the neighbor heard the smoke alarm and called for help. the fire broke out after midnight. there were a dozen or so apartments in this building and no other units were damaged but residents were evacuated. the fire chief told me this doesn't appear suspicious but it appears the woman inside the apartment was alone. she's a smoker and her smoking lead to the sparks. >> damage is limited to the unit of origin and there was no

evidence of foul play or anything. we're still looking at the calls. we need to interview the occupant to determine the cause. >> reporter: the apartment is a complete loss this morning, but again no other apartments were damaged. reporting live in san rafael jade hernandez county ciao channel 2 news. we are learning more about a fatal police shooting. tara moriarty talked to police this morning. she joins us live. >> reporter: we just spoke to napa police moments ago. they are remaining tight lipped about this police. now if you take a look over my shoulder you can see there is a patrol car situated in front of the victims house. the front door is blown wide open. richard a psychiatric nurse

kept a bundle of pistols inside of his house. this is where officers were called yesterday afternoon around 3:00. the victims wife called 911 saying that poncio was suicidal and making threats. they spoke to him by phone. they convinced him to come outside and talk to him that's when things turned ugly. >> there was a confrontation just down the street involving the suspect. >> reporter: neighbors say poncihio has been on disabilitied for months. he is apparently stressed and acting very strangely yesterday. according to the napa valley register one neighbor said he was a character and he wouldn't be surprised if this was suicide by cop. there was really no reason to

shoot him. this wholeness kept took place in 15 minutes. the four officers that responded to the leave are on paided a artive leave. back here out on the corner you can see the investigation ended under midnight when they hosed off this area. black ice has formed on the roadway. if you live in this area you want to make sure you take it slowly. we're here live in pap pa. police in redwood city are investigating a suspected homicide. officers found a mans body lying in an alley. that alley is in a residential neighborhood surrounded by apartments and homes. investigators in evidence have ruled out foul play in the death of a 53-year-old man. his father spotted his sons suv

parked near highway 101 late yesterday and immediately contacted police. officers found the son's body lying in the backseat. authorities are expected to release more information later today. the first monday the first workday after the long thanksgiving weekend is called cyber monday because so many people will be shopping online. the survey by the national retail federation estimates 106 people will shop online today. 90% of all i-tailers will offer deals. >> much of the information we have gathered over the last couple of days black friday and the sat after they will use that. >> and with people owning smart phones and tablet computers it will be easy to target shoppers no matter where they are. they predict 7% of cyber shoppers will use a mobile device.

retailers are happy about the number of shoppers and the amount of sales over the weekend. 212million people bought something in the store or online through last night. that is up 8.7% from last year opinion d they are spending more. the average shopper spent $365. the chp maximum enforcement ended at midnight. as of yesterday, chp officers arrested more than 1400 people for driving under the in years total for the same period was 1300 people. 249 arrest this year were here in the bay area. and so far eight traffic deaths have been reported statewide. traffic on the nations airline was up 4%. you likely wouldn't have known it on any given day. that's because sunday used to be the busiest day.

our washington, d.c. bureau the administration is calling the release dangerous and reckless. >> reporter: good morning to you. that is right the white house is condemning the document leak by the website wikileaks and facing yemenis pressure to contain -- and facing yemenis pressure to contain the indictments. the they are worried that north korea is supplying iran with advance missiles. the documents also show that the u.s. has tried to coerce countries to take prisons from guantanamo bay. and offering another country millions of dollars. some members of congress say the wikileaks website should be declared a foreign terrorist organization and be shut down.

and there are also revelations about corruption in the afghan government. a standoff between the united states and pakistan over nuclear fuel. the state department says these documents paint an incomplete picture of u.s. foreign policy. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. this morning secretary of state hillary clinton will make a statement about wikileaks. clinton is heading off today on a four-nation tour of central asia and the middle east. many of the countries she will visit is featured in the documents. we will have her statement covered on mornings on 2. the u.s. and south korea are conducting their second day of military exercises today. the uss george washington is in the yellow sea along with a

south korean destroyer. they are pretext for war. south korea president says he will respond firmly to any provocations from north korea. all of this follows south korea artillery attack last week that killed two south korean marines and civilians. as congress gets back to work today the senate is about to vote on the food safety law. would expand the authority of the food and drug administration to regulate farm and food processors. it would give the fda authority to recall an order of tainted products. another item at the top of the congressionalda what to do with the bush era tax cuts that is set to expire at the end of the year. most want to keep it in place.

that's 98% of taxpayers. but republicans want to extend the tax cuts including wealthier americans. a leading republican senator is down playing the session that it will repeal the ban of serving openly in the military. >> this is all politics. i don't believe there is anywhere near the votes to repeal don't ask don't tell on the republican side. >> tomorrow the pentagon is set to release a survey of how 400,000 u.s. troops feel about gays serving openingly in the military. and leaked results of that military show 70% don't care about lifting the don't ask don't care policy. young people that came to this country illegal as children to be offered a pass to citizenship if they attend college or join the military.

cold morning gives away to sunshine for everybody today. a little breezy in some of the higher elevations of the east bay hills. at the surface most locations say calm. it will be cold again tuesday morning and mostly fair. wednesday mostly cloudy. especially toward the north bay. looks like rain comes back in on friday. the world ears largest retailer is looking to expand its scope. walmart has offered $28 billion for a 50% share of mass mart stores. walmart wanted to join all of the shares but several shareholders expressed concerns over that deal. mass mart runs 300 big boss and electronic stores. u.s. airlines are optimistic about the number of passengers. they have increased the number of flights or moved to bigger planes. jet blue gained 7.5 seats.

conditions could push water deliveries lower. freenesses push -- san francisco's push for composting could be a big jump. the san francisco chronicle says 70% of apartment buildings in the city have composting bins. that's compared to 20% last year. 600 tons of composted material is collected every day throughout san francisco. last year 300 tons were collected on daily basis. and a multimillion dollar federal grant will help authorities identify carcinogens in the san francisco bay. $5million grant from the u.s. environmental protection agency will allow scientists to install sediment trapping devices in the bot testimony of creeks and rivers with the most

and released. he had a large gash on his face. the resident suffered second degree burns. luckily for the resident the neighbor heard the alarm and called 911. firefighters kept this one to a one alarm fire and put out flames in 15 minutes. there were a dozen or more apartments in this building. residents were evacuated. fire chief jim told me this morning it doesn't appear suspicious. but it appears the woman in the apartment lives alone and he is a smoker. the apartment is 25 complete loss but -- the apartment is a complete loss but no other apartments were damaged. coming up you will hear from san rafael fire chief. we'll have more on that.

street at 12:30 thursday morning when a man attacked her. she was able to fight him off. the suspect is described as 6'1", 175 pounds. anyone with information about that incident is urged to call palo alto police. this morning we are learning more about a the fatal police shooting of a 60-year- old man in napa. it happened yesterday at a home in meek avenue. officers raced to the scene that got into a deadly confrontation with man outside of his home. >> there was a confrontation in the intersection just down the street involving the suspect. and one officer deployed a taser. >> napa police have not yet revealed if the man was armed oar why the officers opened fire. they identify the man killed as

he worked as several day area hospitals including sf general. this morning san francisco police are searching for suspects in a drive-by shooting in the cities pacific heights neighborhood. three men were hurt in that shooting. the three men told police they had been followed for several blocks and then someone opened fire. all three are expected to survive. pg&e crews work through the night to restory power. it happened near the intersection of stevens boulevard an north blainey avenue. work starts today to retro visit cal stadium. today the contractor will fence off the stadium and start

vehicles described as a light dodge ram pickup truck. authorities have released few details. this happened around 3:15 yesterday afternoon on shell and martinez avenue. a pickup truck hit an 18-year- old that suffered moderate injuries. the suspect is described as red 2002 chevy silverado with 17- inch rims. the man accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist in august is scheduled to report this week. he is accused of being drunk when he hit him. link was a 22-year-old german student visiting san francisco. this week a vote in foster city could recommend a limit on

the number of dogs that people can bring to the city's dog park. the parks department says there are complaints that people are bringing too many dogs. the crackdown would impose a fine on anyone breaking a three dog limit. public officials will listen to public comment. the next time there is a major earthquake scientists will have more information on how big the rescue efforts should be. it's a color coded alert system that goes out within 30 minutes of a quake. it includes information about magnitude and structures and lives lost. officials are hoping to avoid the problems at the last contest in february. when a wave went over a break water and hit spectators. the waiting period for the next
