despite cold rainy weather in oregon tonight, hundreds of people of many religions turned

out to show their support of the muslim community. they gathered at an islamic center that was targeted by an arsonist. police say it may have been a hate crime related to a teenager who worshiped there. that teenager has been arrested. the santa cruz police department is reviewing their policies today. as robert handa investigates, both the sheriff deputy and officials are reviewing policies there today. >> reporter: during his run through the neighborhood, he held a woman at a day care center at gun point then hid in two different homes before being captured.

>> construction crews are wasting in time in taking apart cal's memorial stadium just three days after the last game there. today crews began removing the wooden benches, some of which will be sold at an auction to sport cal's athletic program. 2/3 of the stadium will be modified making it more earthquake safe. more than of the benches will be repaired with chairs. there will also be new concession areas and club seating. the project the expected to be complete by the 2012 session.

tomorrow people around the world will be wearing red ribbons remembering friends and love # ones lost to aids. on the eve of world aid day people are gathering at the national aids memorial grove at golden state park to mark the milestone of the fight against the disease. heather holmes is there with this story, heather. >> reporter: julie, for the first time tonight the grove here is ill rule nailed. there are blowing, white, green and purple. it was a celebration of a 20th anniversary of the ryan white care act. landmark legislation that

changed the fight against aids. diagnosed at 13, her son ryan waged a courageous fight against aids during the height of it discrimination. >> wasn't just about ryan, there's so many families that have been through this aids epidemic that they felt the same suffering and pain that i went through. >> reporter: 25 years after her son died at the age of 18, 20 years after the decide started to take aim. much progress has been made. there's been a downward trend in new hiv infections. but there is still no cure. >> one of my sons is -- he's one of my coldest friends he died five years ago. >> from friends to children. the report showed 1.8 million aids related deaths in 2009.
