to stand trial. >> we're now learning that the inmate who broke free during a medical exam on monday, faked his shoulder injury in order to make his escape. sheriff's officials believe maurice ainsworth knew that he would be unshackled during his exam. steal her gun and make his get away. >> police released sketches today of two men accused of sexually assaulting and ronning three west oakland roommates. the attacks happened about a week and a half ago. police are offering a sizable award for information that leads to an arrest in this case. rob roth reports. >> reporter: oakland police released these composite d rawings today and they hope the sketches will help them break an especially brutal case. >> this is a very terrifying event that took place involving three women. they were sexually assaulted,

robbed. we need to get those suspects off the street. >> police say a 26-year-old woman was walking out of the west oakland b.a.r.t. station in the early hours of n ovember 20th. when she got to 11th and market streets about a mile a way, two men held her at gunpoint. police say she was sexually assaulted. her attackers then made her withdraw crash from an atm before forcing her to take her to an apartment where police say they robbed and sexually a ssaulted her two roommates. the sketches come from descriptions provided by the three victims. >> we're hoping that these sketches will help jog s omebody's memory on who the suspects are and help us identify them. >> reporter: the suspects are described as african-american. one is 20 to 30 with a mustache and goatee, the other is 20 to 25 years old with hazel eyes and police are releasing the description of a car the a ttackers were driving, a 1993 or '94 black honda civic. what's unique about the car, it has a square spoiler on the rear of it. so we're hoping somebody will

be able to identify the car. >> police say the three victims have since moved out of oakland. many women we spoke with say they dread walking in west oakland after dark. >> i try to get the early shift. when the nighttime comes, i can already be in the house. >> reporter: the oakland police is offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the sexual attackers. in oakland, rob rocket, ktvu channel 2 news. the lucky chances casino is seeking a court order to force two youtube users to remove security cam true footage from the website. one video shows a fight between two people inside the colma casino's card room. people can be seen punching each other. in the other video, a security guard, yanks a seated customer to the floor. the casino wouldn't talk to us today, but in court filings, they say the video have -- the videos have hurt their reputation and business. concord police made arrests in the recent killings of the

chicken the case. this happened on the el monte campus the day before thanksgiving. today police arrested three teenaged boys who they say took part in the crime. the two 15-year-olds and a 14- year-old did not attend el monte. they were booked for animal cruelty and burglary and have been released release to their parents. the state is looking into technology that would allow people to send text photos and even video to 911 operators. today the state advisory board met in sacramento to discuss bringing the 911 system up to date with how people c ommunicate. they say photos and video of disasters or accidents could provide important information to dispatchers to pass along to first responders. there's no timetable on when the state would adopt this new policy. law enforcement agencies are giving people a second chance. starting today and running through the end of the month, people charged with certain crimes can turn themselves in

and avoid being booked in jail. maureen naylor is live with two specific impacts this program could have. >> reporter: frank, law enforcement in santa clara county hope more than 300 people will walk through their doors to get the apartment want -- to get the warrants cleared. the department says it will save them time and taxpayers money. >> in this system here -- let me see if i can get you a rollup -- i mean this -- so -- come on in. >> reporter: the santa clara county sheriff's office this afternoon took us into the classified records. >> this is where we keep the warrants in this system here. let me see if i can get you a rollup. i mean, this is just thousands of warrants for everybody. >> reporter: it takes about 200 bins to hold the county's u ncleared warrants to help clear some the department today l aunched operation second chance. >> you kind of messed up your

utilities commission is s cheduled to vote tomorrow on whether to halt the installation of pg&e's smart meters. the ems safety network is asking for more studies on the health effects of those meters before additional ones are installed. it could be an uphill battle for it to convince the cpuc because a law judge already suggested dismissing the proposal. they say the meters are safe. a man from san bruno says he has a reason sell -- million reasons to celebrate. he became an instant m illionaire. he said he danced around the store when the ticket was s canned an his $1 million prize was confirm. he has two plans. first pay off his house, second take a trip to las vegas. into a season of n of giving survival for millions of americans. plus -- >> she said i lied. she did it.

the government's u nemployment figures are not due out until friday, but there's suggestions that hiring sup. the dow closed up nearly 250 points. the nasdaq was up a little more than 51 points. this year's cyber monday brought in record-breaking revenue for online retailers for the first time ever, online

we often hear negative stories about pit bulls but tonight something ditch. tonight we meet one who -- w ho -- meet one who is being called a hero. >> reporter: five weeks of separation ended this afternoon when darryl was reunited with his beloved put bull diamond at eden pet hospital. this beloved pet went through a hot -- went through a lot for the single father. >> she said i lied. i lied. she did it. she's a heck of a dog. >> reporter: around 1:30 in the morning on october 24th, his second floor apartment caught on fire while the family was a sleep. he says diamond started barking, something she rarely does. >> it was because of diamond. it was diamond that woke us up. >> reporter: the vet treating diamond says she suffered burn wounds to 30% of her body that will leave permanent scars.

>> 30-degree burns? >> yes. >> diamond has nerve damage to one leg but is expected to make a full recovery. >> she's a very lucky dog. she easily could have been overwhelmed by the smoke. the bill for diamond's medical care is more than $5500. he told us his own injuries, third-degree burns to his back, arm and foot help kept him in the hospital until two weeks a go. it's now preventing him from returning to work as a forklift driver for two months. >> i have to buy everything all over again because i lost everything. >> reporter: he's now looking for a new home to rent, one that will allow him to keep diamond. the hayward animal shelter is accepting donations to help pay off the medical bills. he says there's no way he will be parted from his dog again, diamond, precious and truly amanda -- a man's best friend. >> wow.

well, it's time to get the forecast now. another cold day. we're hound wondering if rain is gonna be heading our way in time for the weekend. let's go to bill in the weather center. cloudy today as we talked about last night. a lot of clouds have moved into the area. showers will remain north. these clouds have actually warred us -- warmed us up. overnight lows out of the f reezing level for many. tonight it will be warmer still. the clouds providing a bit of a blanket. they also allowed temperatures to warm up the mid- to upper 50s. cloud cover can sometimes warmle you up. you just see sort of 24 hours worth of moisture moving t hrough. here's the most current stuff heading our way. the showers lingering in the north. i'm gonna show you the latest computer model. and what you will see is that line from about -- marin county north it's gonna keep the rain up there today. today we had a lot of clouds up there. as we head into thursday and friday. more showers and then showers. there will be showers in the north bay on thursday, light

something up there tomorrow night. >> okay. >> thank you, bill. the annual mavericks surf compel tigs wind -- window officially opened. for start, it's now up to the 24 contestants to decide when the waves are big enough to hold the competition. once the contest is on, the s urfers will have 24 hours to get to half moon bay. as far fans organizers want to keep them off the beach during the contest because of injuries caused by what you are looking at here, that rogue wave last february. the window for the big waves for mavericks runs through f ebruary 28th. california health officials reopened enrollment for a s tate-run breast cancer s creening program for low-income women. registration has been closed since january due to a lock of funding. recently the state decided to r eallocate 20 million from the budget to keep the program up and running. we're just very happy to be able to reopen enrollment to

women that -- to women that need these services. >> department of public health says it expects the funding to help pay for screening and diagnostic services for almost 3 00,000 low income women throughout the state. store some bay area preschoolers with whose families suffer finances, today was a skate in the park. more than 200 low-income families were joined to -- were treated to skating. each kit of the kids received a gift card for target stores. the bay area golfer's sex change.

players and officials of the hbga tour have voted to remove the female at birth requirement from constitutional bylaws for women golfers. it's in response to a lawsuit filed in san francisco by the 57-year-old former police officer who had a sex change five years ago. now he's a transgender woman, she argues this violate the california's city rights laws. mark is here with sports.
