traffic on 80 in berkeley is doing okay. but the north bay and part of the northeast bay wet with the roads and that will effect the morning commute. also the morning drive at the bay bridge toll plaza has been slightly wet come into san francisco. you will be dealing with the wet weather. the wet weather does effect the commute. let's go live to ktvu reporter claudine wong who is in the north bay. you've seen quite a bit of rain up there. >> reporter: we are seeing a steady amount of rain coming down. we are a long highway 101. there are cars driving by. you can see the roads are wet. they have been wet all morning. we've been watching activity in the north bay this is where most of the rain will be falling. we have seen some reports in santa rosa about trees down and a couple of minor spinouts. that is something to keep in mind if you are heading on the road this morning. we are keeping an eye on things. it's a good idea to give

yourself some time. take it a little slower. it will be wait morning for you. reporting live claudine wong. >> thank you. we are following breaking news right now in berkeley. the police have responded to san pablo avenue. there appears to be a takeover robbery a few moments ago. kraig debro is joining us live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. i just confirmed this is a robbery with the berkeley sergeant. this is the 1100 block of san pablo. you take a look right there, there is a couple of cop cars. the man speaking is holing an ice pack to his head. you can tell it was a violent robbery. paramedics arrived on the scene examing one of the employees that was knocked on the head during this takeover robbery or during this robbery. fewer details are vail right now. we have been able to confirm this is a robbery with berkeley police. there is several officers on

the scene. there is an albany officer here. we don't know if the suspect went from albany or came from there. whomever did this made a hasty retreat. i walked around the perimeter of the building when i got here. it's a trail of money behind the restaurant here. apparently the thief or thieves dropped the money on the way out of the store. it's an indication of what happened earlier this morning. some kind of robbery. don't know how much the person got away with. right now the investigation is closed. you can see that guy in the window that i showed you earlier he has that ice pack in his hand. he just made a motion to his face as to indicate what the robber was wearing. again that is just me putting it together from looking at this. i'm going to have to talk to berkeley police and try to confirm this information for our next report. right now you have a robbery here. it looks like one of the

employees was injured during the robbery. reporting live in berkeley ktvu channel 2 news. police are also investigating a series of street robberies. so far no arrests have been made. the most recent one was monday night. the victim left the north berkeley bart station. he was walking to his car when a man came up and robbed him. a similar robbery happened. >> he just sat in his car to make his way home. >> now police say there were six other armed robberies in north beckly last month. several cases police say the victims were talking on cell phones or listening to ipods when they were robbed. a community meeting on the robberies take place later tonight to get the details go to our channel 2 website ktvu.com look for the web

links. palo alto is seeing an increase in thefts own robberies. two people were robbed in downtown palo alto. an iphone was stolen from a teenager on saturday night as he walked near a cal train under crossing. and monday night a woman's purse was stolen. there is very little information in each case. neither was hurt. a pedestrian was seriously hurt in an accident involving a bus. this happened last night in east oakland. the oakland fire department tells us the victim was bleeding badly and was rushed to oaand's high land hospital. there is no word on his condition yet. still not clear what lead up to that accident. there is still no sign of a 15-year-old girl from contra costa county. the parents said they left their home on november 29th. her father says he fears she

was lured away from a man on the internet. they have put stephanies name in a data base of run away minors. a san francisco police lieutenant has filed a wrongful suit against the city. he was forced to retire after being wrongfully accused of misprofessional misconduct. that charge came after he repeatedly tapped his badge against a coffee window. the officer has face several allegations of impropriety. new information on a story we told you about yesterday of the man suspect of impersonating a police officer. redwood city police arrested 18- year-old allen grab of skiff wednesday night. now police say he matched the description of a man that tried to pull over several drivers earlier in the day.

6:06. hundreds of oakland kids are still sitting in cold classrooms. more than a week ago kaiser elementary students went back to school with no heat. the school has little or no heat nit classrooms. about 265 students kindergarten through fifth grade attend kaiser. the district says they are waiting on parts to fix the problem. we received a lot of e-mail and twitters over this story. santa clause is jolly again with a new job. john made international news after he got sacked from his 20 year job at macies. it came after an older couple complained about a joke he had been telling for years. macy's wouldn't contact but he has already landed a new job up to the street.

6:07 let's go to sal. we have a wet commute that will effect all of us. >> it is. if you will be driving to work, i think you should leave the house if you can 10-15 minutes earlier. i realize 15 minutes in the morning it's hard to do. if you can do it, it will save you time. let's start off by the bay bridge toll plaza westbound that traffic will be okay if you are driving across to the city there. no major problem there is. and of course is okay. when you get to san francisco i do want to show you that. northbound 101. san mateo bridge also wet here in the middle of the bay. extra time you might also want to consider public transportation, bart, and muni not listing any major delays right now. let's go to steve.

thank you. rain is draping right over us. the heaviest amounts will be to the north. some of the rain totals -- couple one hundreds to a inch. you can see where most of the energy is just driving right toward about san francisco north. but that doesn't mean everybody down to san jose won't be in line. there is some light rain. cloudy grease asen mild with upper 50s and low 60s. this could add pretty fast. russian river you can see why. it's right there. it just hangs out all day. in fact, there is one system here and a couple more impulses behind that which will keep the band going if you will always into thursday or friday. so you can see how this hangs out. cloudy, cloudy and then rain starting to pick up.

there is no trigger mechanism there to spin the atmosphere. but there will be decent winds. san francisco 51. we will go 56 to walnut creek. oakland 62-57. san jose another balmy day. 66 yesterday we'll go cloudy and 62. that rain will start to sag south here. 50-52 take your pick. everybody is in the same temperature range and that's why highs today due to cloud cover are not going to warm up very much. with a southeast wind you can't get into upper 60s. 55 at eureka. 51 palm springs. 48 lake tahoe. yes 48 because of a south wind out of that. remember november? you remember how cold it was. everything was coming straight down. now it's coming out of the southwest. this is a mild milder pattern.

minor. let me show you another view from our bay bridge camera. you can see that the traffic is very slow on the bridge and what they usually do here is that they slow down the metering lights. you can see there goes a fire truck presumably up to the injury accident. this is bad news for you if you are a bay bridge commuter. unfortunately it means the traffic will be slow for the rest of the morning. that's just how it goes. an accident in the 6:00 hour could have effects until 9:00. hopefully they will get this under way. westbound san mateo traffic looks good. now let's go to steve. thank you. ha lot of cloudy skies. most of the observations say light rain. that includes napa, livermore and even into the north bay.

a hero. private bradley manning is suspected of providing wikileaks with video showing a helicopter tack in baghdad with 11 civilians killed. he faces a 52 year sentence if he convicted. the city council is expected to vote at its meeting next tuesday on whether to declare its support for manning. consumer borrowing increased 1.7% in october. that is the biggest rise in two years. however most of the changes in the category includes student loans. that is after the government became the primary lender to students. analysts say resolving credit which includes credit cards dropped more than 8%. that is the 26 consecutive monthly decline for that category. an unprecedented survey shows californians are close to the u.s. average overall. on the negative side californians are slightly less likely to have a rainy day fund and more likely to spend more

lower a little bit right now. the dow jones but there are still concerns about the economy, debt crisis across europe. no big swings in either direction. we will go ahead and smile and say good morning to you. it's the middle of the week wednesday december 8th. i'm dave clark. >> i'm pam cook. we are following breaking news this morning. police are on the scene of a violent takeover robbery. it happened just about an hour ago at a mcdonnells. ktvu kraig debro joins us from the scene. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, pam. i spoked to a berkeley police surgery she had no new information. she said a lieutenant was on the way down to talk to us. this mcdonalds is a couple blocks north of gillman. we will show you what happened

to one of those employees. this happened at 5:30. we got here a few minutes ago. one of the employees inside is being attended to by a paramedic. apparently the paramedic had been hit on the head during the course of the robbery. paramedics were here and checked him out. he was holding an ice pack on his head. now i would like to walk around places when i first get here. when i did in this case we see the thieves made a hasty exit. a trail of moneyny leading from one of the back doors of the restaurant. $20-30 out there but still an indication of the thief making a get away and in a very, very quick fashion. as far as we've been able to tell there is nobody else that has been hurt in this robbery but there is still a heavy police presence out here. if you come out and take a look at a live picture not only can you see berkeley police cars out here. but on the left there is a few other cars here including one

about the horrifying dragging death of an antioch woman. lucioiverivera -- lucio riviera is charged with her death. >> she exits the vehicle. you can see the dispute happening. >> police say the store surveillance video clearly shows that horrifying scene as it happened. authorities are not releasing the video because of all the concerns it could effect the trial. this dragging death was one of two homicides in two days in antioch a long with a pair of shootings that injured two men. this comes at the end of a very violent year. antioch reported ten homicides this year. there were five in 2009.

later on today antioch's mayor plans to meet with the police and community leaders to talk about this disturbing increase in deadly crime. police in roanoke park say an 18-year-old driver that hit and killed a toddler in a crosswalk may have been using her cell phone at the time of the accident. cally died an her mother were severely injured. investigators filed a petition with the driver cell phone provider to find out if she was talking or texting at the time of the crash. a san jose man is in jail this morning after fighting with police officers during a standoff at his home. police were called to 11th and washington yesterday afternoon by someone who saw the man swinging a bat in front of his neighbors home. officers say when he arrived the he was inside of his home but refused to come out. officers went in the man fought with them but he was eventually

arrested. a cost cutting measure is left oakland school kids in the cold. they are heading to class this morning with no heat. jade hernandez is at kaiser elementary school with details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we don't know how long these schools will go without heat. but at last check 19 schools were effected. you are right we are at kaiser elementary where students here have been without heat for more than a week. kaiser has 265 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. the district says the loss of heat is tied to a problem which needs parts to fix and the parts are not in yet. last week the district admitted the heating problem experienced in the schools including right here at frick middle school. this is the video we are looking at right now had to deal with the districts decision to turn off the heaters at the holiday break.

to make matters worse, the district only has five heating technicians. last year the district downsized technicians by 50%. the district has apologized and some schools have had heat restored. the district has tried to remedy the problem in the other schools right now. we have been monitoring the situation. this morning we are doing that from kaiser elementary. we have left a message for the school but school hasn't started yet. as soon as the principal gets here we will give you an update on his school. reporting live jade hernandez. rehearing now from that hiker that survived six freezing nights in the santa cruz mountain. debra collins was released from the hospital. she ended up in a revine after

losing her footing. they say they should have launched a search earlier. miss collins said she never gave up hope. >> it's that survival instinct. i kept saying i'm going to hear my name. i knew that you know that people were looking for me. >> miss collins was found on saturday. a neighbor and young son there helped. they set out to find her after they found she was missing. she says next time she goes for a hike she will leave a note. 6:38 is the time. back over to sal. we understand the bay bridge very slow. there is that injury crash. how does it look? >> they moved the crash pam and dave to the island but it's still pretty slow on the actual delay hire at the toll plaza. now authorities did a good job. chp got up there. oakland fire and they attended to the injured person to find out there wasn't a very serious

injury. that really is helping out the commute although it is still pretty slow. slower than it normally would be because the right lane was blocked for a time. it was blocked for ten minutes and ten minutes in bay bridge time is like seven years in dog years. it's a long time. let's go out and take a look at the commute now. north and southbound that traffic is moving well at the coliseum here. it's a little bit wet asteve has been telling you. we also have claudine on rain this morning. we are watching for more crashes to occur. unfortunately it happens when there is wet weather. one more thing we want to show you the northbound. southbound 101 from nevada to san rafael and across the way we do have minor accident west 80 for the most part the traffic is not all that bad. 6:30 let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you, sir. steady rain can keep adding up. some of the projections will be

up to three quarters. now that would be toward the north bay mainly. everybody here will get some light rain. this could be the pattern for most of the day. cloudy, light rain. look at how it keeps funneling in. there is nothing too heavy. there will be bursts of moderate to heavy. santa rosa said rain. concord said that. mostly cloudy to light rain. you get that steady light rain especially russian rivers. areas near the coast. rain gauge can click a long. a little enhancement also taking place. the whiter the clouds the colder the clouds right there. a little bit. nothing too heavy. there is plenty of cloud cover out there. so far the rain has not been that much but booneville up in mendocino county .42. no report coming out of santa rosa. somebody up there needs to write to me. you can e-mail me or tweet me.

the latest release from wikileaks show that britain feared libya would take -- killed 270 people over scottland. according to the document they threatened to hold all trades if the bomber was not set free. it was released by scottland last year because he is said to have only three months to live. he is still alive. a private funeral is scheduled for elizabeth ed saturdays. she died yesterday after a six year battle with breast cancer. friends and family remember her as a brave woman that showed tremendous courage through tragedy and betrayal of her husband. bad news about the dropout rate in the oakland school district.

there is a new report estimating four out of every ten students drop out of oakland high schools. that information is based on information collected from 2008 and 2009. now the report says oakland's 40% dropout rate is the highest in alameda county followed by berkeley at 27%, emeryville 25%, and hayward at 21%. well we are dealing with another wet morning commute here in the bay area. claudine wong is on storm watch this morning. claudine, where are you? how does it look? >> reporter: we are in nevada where there has been a pretty steady rain out here. it got a little heavy and lightened up but it has not stopped. we are a long highway 101 traffic is flowing. this is the place to be for getting the heaviest amounts for you. there have been several reports of minor spinouts and things like that a long the roadway

but -- along the roadway but nothing serious. best advice is to always take your time. take your time on the roadways. things are again looking good right now across the bay area. sal is keeping an eye on the roads. what are you seeing? >> i'm seeing more accidents. more crashes. more people getting into fender benders and more people's cars breaking down. let's go outside. i want to show you the east shore freeway. it's busy as you drive to the bay bridge toll plaza. the bridge was the site of an earlier accident. that crash has been removed. the traffic is backed up at the toll plaza for 10-15 minute wait. we are lucky, it could have been much worse. chp and oakland fire got up there. now it looks like a typical backup. nothing worse than that but not bad considering what it could have been. 101 looks good both directions.

the road sensors when you see red you can tell it's slowing down. north 10 slow approaching the 680 interchange. cloudy skies. a steady light rain. that looks to be the forecast today. cloudy light rain with an occasional burst. the line is starting to go south now. santa clara valley will be on the southern edge of this and expect less rain. from santa rosa to around peninsula sfo toward concord and livermore that looks to be a steady rainy day. you can see why. there is plenty of moisture out here. we need that system to slide through. that will not be until thursday until the impulses go through. heaviest in the north bay. 50s 50s 60s.
