2:00 sunday morning on walnut boulevard near oak street for running a red light. both the driver and the passenger ran away. that police officer caught up to the driver in an alley. now, there there was a confrontation and that officer was later found on the ground with a head i njury. he was airlifted to the h ospital. that's where he was treated and then later released. of. after an extended police search, the driver was found and was arrested. police say a homeless man walking around in traffic drunk was hit and killed by a bus -- near the bus. it happened near the east capital expressway. police say the man was in his 40s and earl i 50s -- early 50s. 7:046789 some students are fuming after getting some very expensive cry takes and tickets on the uc berkeley campus.

what may seem like a minor offense is causing cyclists hundreds of dollars. jade hernandez is at the campus with the details. >> reporter: good morning. checking across the council -- trucking around the campus is an economical way to get around. tickets will push that up. we talk to a uc berkeley police officer and he told us that the captain told officers to refrain from handing out any more citations until the department can figure out a problem to the solution over the frustration of these sensitive -- expensive tickets, up to $220. they've caught 40% more bikers this year than the same period last year. students are raising a sink. uc berkeley doesn't see any of the proceeds. the money goes straight to the city, council and state

coffers. students are upset about the ticket and they've started a facebook page called bike b usters. this calls angry students a place to vent. a berkeley city council man plans to meet with the police department and that council is thinking about introducing legislation to better synchronize like lanes with the university. riding through the main c orridor, that can actually get you a ticket if you do that. it's $220. it's bun of the frustrations that students have had but the u.s. berkeley police officer told me the biggest problems -- the biggest problem he sees, they use a handrail. when they do that, it can cause some safety issues and he says he will give a ticket if he

san francisco's mayor wants to crack down on crime in the city parks. newsom plans to introduce legislation before he leaves office, specifically addressing violence at golden gate park. kraig debro is live with more. >> reporter: good morning, tori. last month, a man was stabbed here at 8th and stanian. this is sort of the gateway into the park. because of that and other incidents, two supervisors are going to be calling for more lighting and safety patrols in golden gate park. now, the two supervisors are just two, mayor newsom will be introducing something tomorrow addressing the problem of violence in going park. the report in "the examiner" says one of the solutions is establishing set hours here at golden gate and other parks.

upper midwest is being blamed for at least six. deaths. it's also produced some scary scenes scenes from an nhl dome. >> reporter: the roof, you used to be able to see it. it's down, it's collapsed. it's the most amazing video that people have seen in an awfully long time. fox recorded it yesterday morning right about 5:00. what this is the metrodome. it really is a big air pillow with a concrete base to it. too much snow, too much ice on the top, not enough air pressure on the inside. it's made out of teflon, that tore. three panels are ripped and that's what caused the dome to go down. folks were on top of the b uilding on saturday afternoon. we had 17 inches of snow between friday flight and saturday n ight. so they are up there with hot water trying to steam and brush the snow off.

and trying to make sense of why it all happened. now, the attack happened off of balsam way early yesterday morning. both children were home alone and savagely attacked while they were sleeping. it happened just before 3:00 in the morning. police say someone broke in the house and attacked the girl with a kitchen knife while lying in bed next to her brother. officials say he sexually assaulted her and when the baby woke up crying, he stabbed him ten times and assaulted him as well. a 14-year-old. that's insane. you can't emergency a child b eing stabbed, 20 times. >> now, the girl was stabbed moyer than 30 miles but somehow managed to sneak out while the suspects fell asleep inside of the house. she gabbed the -- grabbed the baby and her cell phone, calmed 911 and went to a neighbor's house.

police surrounded the house for two hours before they busted in around 6:00 and arrested the suspect. that 14-year-old is in juvenile hall facing charges of attempted homicide and sexual asay the. one of the questions that many have had about this story is when were the parents when this attack happened. we're hearing reports that the 14-year-old was left alone to baby-sit. investigators say the mother was working. as far as the suspect, they believe he was an acquaintance. another interesting point, the victim's older brother is 16 years old and used to frequently baby-sit the children here. apparently he was in juvenile hall at the time when this

ready to wage a border war of sorts in response to san francisco's proposed peninsula toll. part of the city's plan calls for a $3 fee during peak commute hours for drivers crossing the city line to the south. but one daly city supervisor says if the city moves forward with tolls. he will retaliate. >> if they approve this, i as the member of the san mateo county congestion board will then ask that board to assess a $12 fee specifically for san francisco residents entering san mateo county. the supervisor says the c ity's toll plan could cost san mateo county residents hundreds of extra dollars a y ear. sanfrancisco supervisors will vote tomorrow on a study of the toll program. if the plan is approved it would take effect in 2015.
