jose at 58 degrees. here's sal. good morning. traffic on 80 westbound looks pretty good getting out to the macarthur maze. no major problems. also this morning's commute is okay in san francisco but there's a crash at 19th avenue. someone is still stuck inside a car believe it or not. we'll tell you more from the scene coming up. now back to the desk. all right. thank you, sal. this morning san jose police have an important warning for people living near the east ridge mall. be on the look out for two dangerous dogs. ktvu's kraig debro joining us now from the san jose neighborhood where this happened. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, pam. you got the support yesterday early evening late afternoon. didn't have an address. we now believe we know where this happened. not confirmed by police but a look on the ground on that driveway across the street on white sand road here in east san jose tells a pretty convincing story of what happened here yesterday. we talked about it. show you a close up of the bloody scene, but we also wanted to tell the story of a woman attacked by two pit bulls until she started to bleed. police say the unidentified woman was getting into her car
6:02 am
in the driveway of one of the homes here when the dogs attacked. police say two dark gray full bred dogs attacked around 6:20. neighbors heard the woman's screams and came to her aid. the dogs eventually ran off but that was after neighbors started to talk back to them. we talked to a couple people who live here who describe themselves as responsible pit bull owners. >> i'm cautious when i'm walking around with her any way. checking out seeing if there's any loose dogs around and stuff like that. just because sometimes she doesn't get along with other dogs like i said. so i'm always watching out. >> i don't think that it's the pit bull, i think it's always the owner that trains it. >> reporter: now police say the dogs ran off in the southbound direction here. the woman had some major injuries but they're described as non-life threatening. right now it's not clear if the two pit bulls who carried out the attack are strays or have an owner. we called san jose police this

morning to check on the investigation. they now tell us that animal control is in charge. we're going to try to reach someone with animal control later this morning. also going to try to reach the victim of the attack and hopefully some of the people who threw rocks at the dog and saved the woman. reporting live in san jose, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:02. also this morning oakland police are still searching for a fourth suspect tied to a deadly officer-involved shooting in oakland. this happened yesterday afternoon in east oakland after a chase on interstate 580. investigators say a car carrying four people crashed into a home on 13th avenue right here. two police officers then shot and killed one of those men during a foot chase. last night ktvu news spoke to miss edwards who said the 19- year-old man killed was her son. miss edwards admits her son had trouble with the law and was on probation. >> for a teenage young man to hang out with his mom, i know,
6:04 am
i know, i know he was trying hard because he was hanging out with me. and any time you get a young man that hangs out with his mom, he's trying to change. >> now police however say the young man who was killed did have a gun. it's still not clear if he pointed the weapon or was -- orthophyred at police officers. police have detained two suspects in this case. another suspect is still on the run this morning. yesterday's incident is the sixth officer-involved shooting in oakland this year. four of those shootings were fatal. oakland police will be holding a news conference about this latest case later today. a man is fighting for his life this morning after being shot in the head and shoved from a car in antioch. police found the victim, a man in his 20s, lying in the street on rock spring way around 5:15 last night. the victim apparently went to the area to meet a group of people. police say he got into the suspect's car, was shot and then pushed out of the car
6:05 am
before the suspect sped away. the victim is now in critical condition. and police are searching for several suspects. now their car is described as a 90s model dark green ford escort with two doors. police are also investigating the victim's relationship with the suspects. if you have any information, please call antioch police. our time now 6:04. an amateur and professional astronomers alike treated to a rare phenomenon up in the skies overnight. but if you missed the total lunar eclipse, we'll take care of you. we have pictures. jade hernandez joining us live in richmond right now with details. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. you're going to have to wait another 80 years to see a total lunar eclipse during the winter solstice but we can show you what you missed overnight. a total lunar eclipse during winter solstice is rare. the earth's shadow completely covers the moon in less than an
6:06 am
hour. the shadow began to fall on the full moon around 9:30 last night and completely covered the moon just before midnight. the earth's shadow remained on the moon like a thick red veil until around 2:00 this morning. this was the first time since 1638 that an eclipse like this occurred on winter solstice. as a result of the solstice, the moon appeared very high in the sky since this is the time when the earth's pack i can't believe tilt is farthest away from the sun. about 200 people gathered at the space and science center last night to catch the magic in the sky. those who gathered last night were lucky since stargazers in europe and asia could only see a partial eclipse. >> just seeing something that doesn't happen every night and especially when it's a full moon, i think it's just going to be pretty amazing. >> we're not really sure actually what like an eclipse is, but we just thought it would be kind of cool to see it. >> reporter: this is an animation provided by nasa of what the eclipse looks like.
6:07 am
now experts say the color of the moon is a result of indirect sunlight still able to pass through the earth's atmosphere which filters out most of the blue colored light leaving the red and orange hues we can see during the eclipse. if you miss the spectacle in the sky during the winter solstice this morning, it won't fall again on a day like this until 2094. and if you want to see next year's lunar eclipse, you will have to travel because it won't be visible from north america. live in richmond, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. i forgot to set my alarm to get up and watch it. >> me too. >> all right. well, it's a good thing, sal, we have our ktvu news photographers out there getting this for us. >> that's true. that's true. good morning everybody. let's go outside and take a look at traffic which we also have cameras for. westbound 92 at 101 there is a crash there in san mateo. it is causing a little bit of a back up although it's a non- injury crash. couple lanes were blocked

westbound 92 at 101. you might see slow traffic that way. san francisco 19th avenue believe it or not they're still getting someone out of a car. it went off the embankment, very busy intersection. muni also goes by there. it's a good area to avoid. already slow traffic there believe it or not on 19th avenue -- actually it's easy to believe since that street's always slow. let's move along to the westbound bay bridge approach. westbound traffic looks good coming up to the toll plaza. 6:08, let's go to steve. thank you, sir. little different pattern here. the tropical clouds which gave us the possibility of a heavy, heavy, heavy rain has moved south. there have been areas that picked up copious amounts of rain. as that moved south we now see more of a normal wintertime pattern which starlets at 3:38 today by the way. that system right there coming in going to spread a lot of clouds and give us some rain. light rain early. more likely to want. it's also going to split. part of it going north. part going south. there's enough there that we'll get some rain by this evening and taking us into tomorrow.

a quick forecast mostly cloudy today, light rain north bay coast, tonight we'll spread rain in. not a whopper of a system. a break thursday and friday. last system maybe in this series could be saturday. then next week there's no consensus. it looks like things will calm down a little bit. the main part of the system's up here. it's still offshore. for us light rain just goes right along san mateo and santa cruz coastline into the north bay. very light showers there. 40s and 50s. san jose at 50. 43 concord and livermore. one system goes south. clear skies last check in tahoe at 22. there's our system. the key on the backside of this is very strong energy coming down from the north. and the jet stream will have a tendency to dig this. you can see how everything drops straight down. that's going to drive this system down, down, down and then split a little bit. there's enough that it's going to swing in and give us clouds today. mostly cloudy. light rain, coast, north bay until tonight. and there's also possibility of some lightning or thunder. there's a little bit of that going on already offshore.
