definitely dangerous. >> definitely don't want to get that specific. >> reporter: at a press conference this afternoon, police explained 19-year-old edwards was shot to death only after he pointed this 380 pistol at the two officers chasing them. >> during the pursuit, mr. edwards stopped, he drew that pistol right there you see on the that paper and the officer fired at him. >> reporter: police say they had received a tip that edwards and three other suspects were planning a gang retaliation shooting. trying to stop it is what led to yesterday's car and foot pursuit. and the discovery of weapons. >> the handgun possessed by the decedent was recovered. >> reporter: edwards was a member of a well known gang. >> they've been involved in

multiple shootings on a weekly basis. >> reporter: the city's assistant chief has promised transparent information. he's also calling for the community for help to find the two suspects that managed to escape. and on the ongoing attempt to find young men arming themselves to shoot other young men. and preliminary hearing to determine which of seven men and boys will be tried in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl. six were charged in the hours long sexual assault of the girl outside the richmond high homecoming dance in october of 2009. the judge determined one of the teenage boys at the scene of the crime won't be charged with sexual assault. the six other defendants face serious charges when they do go

to trial. >> five of those six were still held on forcible in concert sexual assault with life enhancement. >> a sixthman faces eight years in prison, the man will return to court on january 10th. a man from vallejo held on a million dollars bail for child molestation was released today without bail. prosecutors declined to press charges against samuel kalpurt but say their investigation is still going. an 8-year-old girl says kalpurt took nude pictures of her. another girl said he touched her inappropriately. kalpurt lived in the home of his parents that housed a day care. the license has since been cancelled. 23-year-old michael carr was arrested yesterday, police

say carr committed several lewd acts while he was with a girl but did not molestic. craigslist has now removed it's controversial adult section from its website worldwide. the news came after the company the did the same for its u.s. sites. well, we aren't done with the rain just yet. another round of rains is on the way. that has san francisco experts bracing for more delays. ken wayne is at sfo. >> reporter: if you could pick a time to fly out of sfo, this would be the time. this is the tsa ticket line, there's only three people in line. it was much much busier this

morning. 120 people will fly out today and tomorrow. we talked to a passenger, one passenger, as she put it. she timed it right and picked a good afternoon to fly. there were lines at baggage claim and on baggage claim, but for a hollywood week at sfo it's not what karen porter was expecting. >> i thought it was going to be raining, i thought lines were going to be long. i thought flights were going to be delayed, and this is a nice surprise. >> reporter: the only delay, flights to chicago because of rain. international flights to hethrow were cancelled due to blizzard conditions. but in the bay area, the weather gave fliers a break, one that likely ends tomorrow. >> if the weather comes to forecast, low visibility, high winds and rain. >> reporter: fliers can expect

delays tomorrow morning. >> the best thing people can do tomorrow if they are traveling, before they leave their home, check with the air carrier. >> reporter: bad weather meant three hour delays for some travelers, it's not clear what tomorrow will bring. little concern to katherine who's flight was on time. >> tomorrow morning i'll be on a cruise ship. >> reporter: there may be airport weather related delays during this busy travel week. but officials say that blow will be softened by christmas falling on a saturday this year. they say that will help spread out some of these departing travelers during this busy holiday week. spread those travelers out during a weekday period instead of crowding them during a weekday holiday at sfo. and crews are repairing a break. crews began repairs just about an hour ago at low tide and

they have just three hours to move 300 square feet of soil and replace gravel on the levee road before the tide rises. if the levee breaks, no homes or farmland will be threatened. well let's talk more about that rain that is on the way. our chief meteorologist bill martin has more. >> right now on the marin county area, you see the shower activity in this area along the head lands. everything slowly progressing to the east. so most neighborhoods will see shower activity in the next few hours. if we go out a little farther, you can see that we do have the disturbance right in this area moving on shore. it's basically the entire west coast of california getting hit with this thing. big hit tonight, maybe a

transport back up power from elsewhere. the u.s. conference of mayors annual report found the city distributed some 42 million pounds of food from september 2009 to august of this year. that's an increase of 16% over the previous year. the report also found that requests for food assistance increased 41%. at the same time, the city was unable to meet 30% of the over all demand. a south bay charity found its hand outs in short supply today. the nonprofit just hit a new record yesterday for the most distributions it's given out in one day. ktvu's maureen naylor is in san jose with this story. >> reporter: the two day give away hit a little hick up this morning because they ran out of food and because so many people showed up to get food here, they actually had to call the food bank for help. 3,200 people walked through

this line for a food box. including this 7-year-old boy and his sister who came with their mother. >> right now my husband doesn't have a job, and because of the economy, you know that's why i came to pick up food today. >> we're seeing both increase need and a need that's not abating in this economy. but we're also seeing an increasing number of people that say that they want to do something about it and are volunteering. >> reporter: this light hearted volunteer is 91-1/2. she makes sandwiches three days out of week. >> i feel like i'm accomplishing something, i feel like i'm helping. >> reporter: tomorrow the help turns from groceries to gifts. welcome to what the volunteers call santa's workshop. parents will be able to come here, pick up an unwrapped gift and have it under their tree

we have breaking news right now in the east bay where oakland police say they have found a body in in oakland: police are treating the death as a homicide but have released little information. we will continue to cover the story and bring you more news as soon as we get it. animal control officers captured a pit bull suspected in the attack of a woman. officers are talking to neighbors to try to confirm if

the dog wasinvolvedd in the attack. susan zhao says the dog attacked her after she came back from taking her children to the dentist. the headline right now, officers say they have found one of the suspected dogs, they are still searching the area for the second animal. a snauzer is recovering tonight after it was beaten and shot in the head. the pet owner's are worried tonight about the fate of their other pet. rob roth has the story. >> reporter: the question his owner has is who would hurt such a friendly dog. four-year-old kevin was happy hanging out with his owner at the hospital this afternoon.

it's no exaggeration to say kevin has been through hell. he was shot near the eye and in the head with a pellet gun. has a broke elbow and animal control officers say likely he was beaten. >> i don't understand how they can do that to an animal, i can't comprehend it. >> reporter: a contractor left his home open, kevin and quinn, another shnauzer ran out. the officer brought him to the animal shelter. >> i didn't think it was going to make it to be truly honest with you. i didn't know that it could pull through. >> reporter: you can see the cut from one of two pellet gun wound. kevin also has lacerations and numerous bruises and that is an x-ray of his broken elbow. >> when he sees you he likes to jump up and try to give you a

kiss. he's not aggressive. so that's -- i mean i don't know what type of person could do that. >> reporter: authorities say they have no idea who hurt kevin and are asking witnesses to come forward. clint the one-year-old shnauzer is still missing. >> i want to be hopeful but i'm not so much. >> reporter: there is at least a some what happy ending to this story. the vet says he expects kevin will be able to put all this behind him and make a full recovery. rob roth. two minor earthquakes rattle contra costa county today. the first one occurred shortly before 4:00 a.m. less than two minutes later, a second earthquake hit the area. there are no reports of damage or injuries. on the weather and more

rain on the way. >> it'll be after 11:00 we'll see the heaviest rain. most of the activity a little farther north up toward eureka area. but we're going to get to it here. it's a fast mover, once it gets here, it's going to move out rapidly. showers tonight, tomorrow, actually we're looking for late evening showers tonight, then tomorrow thursday through friday we're looking for dry weather. that certainly means we're going to be out of the wet commute. there's the major rain now, this whole area has to go through. then after that, we have a big old gap out there. we do have a weather system that's going to drop down on saturday that will bring us rain. there'll be a significant system like this one. this is not a long-lived one. here we are tuesday at 10:00 p.m., here we go into wednesday at 2:00 a.m. late tonight, early tomorrow morning.

it starts to wind down quickly. around 1:00, 2:00 maybe you see thunder, a flash of lightning. in the mountains they'll get another foot of snow. could easily see a winter storm warning. as you can see by wednesday night, tomorrow night, it's still going on in the mountains. it's going to linger out there. this is really all about the mountains this next system. we'll see everywhere from a half inch to an inch. here comes friday, here's the one keys up for saturday. a wet weather pattern just keeps coming. we're doing well. we're getting plenty of rain. we're not having too many hydroproblems. we're seeing a lot of snow in the mountains. i have a feeling they're going to have to upgrade that a little bit as we go into the evening hours. late overnight, if you're out driving around, be careful. wet roadways. daytime highs tomorrow with partly cloudy skies into the upper 50s. five day forecast then does include saturday showers at this point into sunday. so we'll watch it for you and

streak. meanwhile, i'm sure you're on the edge of your seat as i'm sure the rams are too. who's going to be the starting quarterback for the 49ers this sunday against the st. louis rams? coach singletary says he knows, but he's not going to tell anybody. smith obviously had a rough go of it against the chargers. my guess will be he will go to troy smith. singletary talks about his would be game plan for that quarterback, whoever he is. >> i don't expect him to go into the game and be perfect. so you know there has to be some patience there, otherwise if you have a plan you can't fully work on it this week because you're not sure if you're going to stay with it or not. i just think that whoever it is, we'll work with him. >> let's hope he checks the film out thoroughly and makes his decision at that point.
