and see all the damage to property and people. >> reporter: they sit on this bench here. >> reporter: as chp headquarters, officers walk us through all the trouble drunk drivers will go through. he showed us how they will blow through a breathalyzer. >> this room feels fun. >> it should feel funny. because no rational person should want to sit in this room taking a breathalyzer test because they have been arrested. >> reporter: de la fuente was pulled over for speeding, officers say he was doing 80 in a 50-mile an hour zone. and a body washed ashore in richmond. the body was found behind the tide line this morning at the

point isabel shoreline. richland police was notified. officials say the body was too decomposed to identify, but they say it was a man's body. ktvu news attained video that shows the pilot walking around the airport. >> how effective is security when everybody on board is screened, and everybody on the ground isn't? >> the tsa would only says the confident in security procedures at sfo, the pilot remains on the job. travelers today may notice the tsa taking a closer look at empty insulated beverage

containers. the possible tactics terrorists might use is concealed explosives in beverage containers. passengers may notice additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers. even with security issue, there are still a lot of people taking to the skies to head to their holiday destination just in time for christmas. it was smooth going for passengers heading out of oakland international airport today. 100million people are traveling by plane or train this week. >> i actually left early morning from sacramento and it was clear all the way here: so far it hasn't been bad. travel has been pretty good. >> reporter: airlines are warning passengers to expect delays on their way home. snowy weather on the east coast and more rain could cause problems on sunday and monday. a north bay man woke up today to smoke and flames in his home and had to run for his

life. it happened about 8:00 this morning on lombardi avenue in east petaluma. by the time firefighters arrived, smoke had filled the house. there is no word yet on what started the fire. police are asking for the public's help to catch whoever stole a fedex truck and it's contents. the truck was stolen yesterday at 3:00 in the afternoon on cap street, about an hour later oakland police received a tip that someone was unloading packages out of a fedex truck on east 26th street. the thieves left packages behind on the street and the truck in a driveway. anyone with any information is asked to contact authorities. there's been a strange string of attempted robberies and carjackings in the south bay all done by the same guy. tonight police in san jose and

santa clara are searching for that men. robert handa has the story. >> reporter: we're here at one of the many places the armed robbers traveled during his crime spree, but police say he left a trail of evidence and witnesses. >> large crowds were out today at san jose's valley mall in santa clara. some shoppers had heard about the man who attempted several carjackings in the area last night. >> you don't usually hear about this stuff, especially at valley fair. >> he had the rifle concealed inside his trench coat. not a lot of people were able to see what was going on until he approached a victim. >> reporter: the strange pattern continued outside. at the parking garage he attempted to carjack a woman but didn't go through with it. then tried to carjack someone near a wells fargo bank but again fled without the vehicle.

police aren't sure why he didn't complete the crimes. >> i just don't get why somebody would go through all that trouble and gain nothing out of it. >> reporter: things took a turn when the man successfully robbed a suit store and got away with cash and a vehicle. police say that vehicle is a white nissan. police also warn shoppers to pay attention to their surroundings and not be distracted by holiday frenzy. >> the next thing you think, well i wasn't even looking over my shoulder or looking you know, i was just doing what i was thinking about. >> reporter: police say no one was injured they describe the suspect as a white male in his 30s and sources say police have already received very useful leads about his identity from the public. live in santa clara, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. officials in marin county say last week's sewage creek was bigger than they first

thought. it could be as much as 3 million-gallons. those leaks aren't the only problems in the county. these above, we're going to show you aboveground bypass pipes that are helping with the break. so far sanitary district officials say there is little health danger from the spills. don't light that yule log just yet. air officials are asking residents to spare from burning wood. officials say they want to cut down on the number of people who will light a fire because wood burning pollutes the air. bill martin has been talking all this week about a christmas storm that's expected to arrive. he joins us now to tell us when it's supposed to get here. >> it's going to get out of here week, but there'll be some wind. a winter storm watch in the

a security scare for the secret service guarding the president during his hawaii vacation. a high speed chase came close to the president's beach front vacation home earlier today. a secret service agent drew her gun at a man in a pickup truck. the man was trying toget away from police. the driver was arrested and we're not even sure the first family knew what was going on. the president and his family are spending the holiday playing in the sun. some people are spending their holiday helping others. the annual last minute toy

driver is now in full swing at san francisco's lefty o'doules. >> people have been coming by since i've been here and that was 5:00 this morning. we expect them as the day goes on, we have good weather, we have santa claus, good food, we have everything you want right here. >> and they will be accepted donated toys until last call about 1:00 tomorrow. the toys are all headed to san francisco firefighters toy drive program. and the prime location for prime rib today. the house of prime rib donated 2,000 pounds of meat for the occasion. people who came by were greeted by clyde's reverent cecil williams. reverent williams is preparing

for tomorrow's free christmas dinner at clyde. but getting enough food has been a struggle. >> here in the large kitchen at clyde church this afternoon, volunteers were getting ready. getting ready for what may be the largest turn out for christmas dinner in clyde history. clyde will have 300 turkeys and hams to serve. reverent cecil says that they are ready for 600 meals but will run out if more people show up. >> maybe, maybe we will make it maybe we won't. >> reporter: among those 5,000 will be this 58-year-old man who lives in a shelter. >> it's nice to have some where to come for christmas. they give us nice food and it's sweet. >> reporter: this woman has a 5 -week-old baby, they too live at a shelter. >> we don't have tons of family to go to. so this is the place we're coming to. >> reporter: donations are down 15% this year while a number of

people needing help rose by 30%. a few blocks away, st. anthony's was nner to 5,000 people. people such as mary mockley from marin county. >> it's a struggle every day. because i came from a nice house, nice family, and now here i am in shelters. >> reporter: no one can say for sure what next christmas will be like. but folks at clyde say the last people that benefit are usually the people that will be coming through these doors on christmas day. a san jose tamale restaurant was also packed today as south bay families stocked up for christmas

dinner. the line outside lucy's tamale factory went around the building. >> we used to spend it with my grandparents out back in mexico, and part of the tradition ever since. >> reporter: that customer said he bought three dozen tamales for his family and he placed his order a week ago. you now have less than six hours before christmas day. and if you haven't finished your shopping, don't worry. there's still stores open now to help the ultimate procrastinator. the last minute push is on. >> less than four shopping hours until these stores close at least. that will be toys r' us, k mart and sears. look at the parking lot, it is amazing. it is a sea of cars and remains that way. only four shopping hours left. others are closed now and counting up their sale, others

continue to worry. this was the late afternoon scene at the san leandrok mart expected to last until it's 10:00 p.m. closing. mall, big box and discount retailers are jammed. but pity the poor artisan. this man crafts every piece he sells. carin makes colorful jewelry out of sea glass, for all it's been a tough recession. >> like maybe half of what it was last year. not just for me but for probably the majority of artisans that i know out here. >> reporter: even in an improving economy, they have yet to benefit. >> in arts, that's one of the first places people start cutting back in their budget and it's one of the last places to come back into their budget. >> and they are taking advantage of the big department stores. you know they go, and they buy 50% discount, and we can't. >> since we make our own

to the bay. we could see valley fog. not a lot. but it could show up in the north bay. here's the system i'm tracking. nice looking weather system. i think i said earlier, i called it an eight, 7.5. it's not what we expressed last week -- experienced last week. this one is going to be an eight and it's out of here. temperatures are on the mild side when you wake up. christmas day. today was nice. today the clouds thicken up all night and showers get going. here's the model underneath. it's because it's a tight front there's a tight pressure grain, or it's just a big difference between the high and the low on either side of this front so you're going to get big winds. you're not going to often get big winds. we're looking for wind gusts, 35 to 40 miles per hour. we head out to the pacific

because it's cool. the thing you will notice that's missing is tropical tap. it's not making up around the gate line. they got tropical gap and 10- inches of rain. the forecast as we go into tomorrow, it's raining. starts raining about 8:00 a.m., it's coming in parallel to the coast. you will start at the north bay first and it's going to be hitting us at the same time. you see how vertical the system is. now the mountains are going off. snow, snow, snow. foot -f snow, foot and a half of snow and big wind. tomorrow is not the day to travel to the mountains, sunday afternoon will be the day. there's a break behind this system. it kind of goes away. we're going to get a break on sunday afternoon into monday. it amounts to a winter storm watch in effect. you can count on that turning

>> you know they are getting back to where they belong. up there in the upper eshelon of the nhl. the sharks are home for the holidays. just maybe san jose is back in championship form. santa was at the tank last night. and where is he at? south america. okay, good, good for him. get to work santa. sharks win for the fourth straight win. but it's been a roller coaster season for the sharks so far. partly because they've been on the load so much, and partly because the line has not been scoring. patrick miles scored twice last night and patty knows the team's success in recent years creates high expectations. >> we work hard to get that reputation that pressure and we expect to live up to it. >> i believe we're competing a little bit harder. i think the guys are understanding a little bit more on a consistent basis how hard it is to win.

you can't cut corners, you can't take shortcut, we've had that the three or four days. >> reporter: the sharks, raiders are all home for christmas. but the 49ers will spend christmas in st. louis. and we don't know who will go but we know that the team will stay at candle stick park at least through the 2014 season. that's because the organization and san francisco's mayor gavin newsom have reached an agreement. the niners will drop the team claim against the city. so warriors they will host portland on christmas night. and raiders face payton manning sunday at the coliseum. julie and ken. >> payton manning back in the bay area >> he's a tough guy, but they're having their troubling too. the raiders must win sunday to keep their play off hopes alive. >> tough game.
