ow. well, good morning to you. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it is monday, december 27th. thousands of airline passengers nationwide are getting nowhere fast due to a monster storm that's closed several busy airports last week. the closures and related cancellations are already c ausing a ripple effect for passengers here in the bay area. kraig debro is live at sfo to let us know what's going on now. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i guess you could say the jury is still out as to whether or not people are gonna be able to leave sfo area withny frequency. behind me at terminal 3:the line is reasonable. but it's also fluctuating. just a couple of minutes ago, it was long and close to the door. the number of outbound flights was at 25.

the number in was 8. we may be looking at a second consecutive delay of c ancellations -- day of delayses and cancellations. the airlines cancelled 33 f lights in and out of sfo. the reason? heavy snow in the eastern seaboard. four east coast airports are closed. teterboro and las vegas and j.f.k. in fact, newark and jfk are gonna be closed until 4:00 eastern time. we found a couple that were supposed to land at j.f.k. >> there was already an hour and a half delay. i've been checking online. and i think we're supposed to depart now at 8:30. >> the key now is not necessarily when we can depart is when they can accept a irlines, then we can start

city just hours ago. police say he saw a driver swerving on highway 580 about 3 :30 this morning, near lakeshore and park. the driver was pulled over, but police say he wouldn't -- wouldn't roll down his window. >> a pursuit happened. the vehicle became disabled here at this location. >> police say the man jumped out of the car and ran off but he was arrested shortly after. 7:04. south san francisco police continue to this morning for the gunmen responsible for last w eek's drive-by shooting that killed three men. the third man was identified over the weekend as 20-year-old hector flores. police say he was shot wednesday night along with five other people at 8th lane and lyndon. omar quart es and one other nan

died at the seen -- man died at the scene. three men drove away from the scene in a dark-colored chevy impala. investigators believe this is due to an escalating war between two street gangs. we could get more answers today regarding the woman's naked body found in the oakland hills. police say it appears the v ictim, a white woman in her 40s, died somewhere else and her body was left at that site. investigators have been trying to identify the woman and say her cause of death could be determined today. police are also trying to determine whether there is a link to the brutal stabbing of a fresno woman whose body was found last tuesday at martin luther king regional shoreline park in oakland. that victim has been identified as 21-year-old jasmine jordan.

a $10,000 reward is being o ffered in that case. the chp is saying traffic dates over the holiday weekend were down. between 6:00 p.m. friday and 6:00 a.m. yesterday, 85 drivers were arrested here in the bay area. no deadly crashes were reported. now around the state 507 drivers were arrested in that same period, about the same as last year. but there were only three traffic deaths across the state of california down from 12 last year. well, the 49ers will introduce their interim head coach this afternoon. the team fired coach mike singletary with just one game left in the season. tara moriarty is joining us live at the 49er headquarters in santa clara with all of the details. good morning tear ray. >> reporter: here's one -- t ara. >> reporter: here's one of the headlines -- over and out, mike single tari is gone -- singletary is gone. fired yesterday after the loss

to the st. louis rams. and now it's the hot topic across the country. >> mike singletary in his -- after the st. louis rams, c alling to 5-10 and getting eliminated. >> reporter: at knbr's morning show, sports analysts say they are surprised that this didn't happen sooner. after the 9ers lost to the r ams, apparently jed york was in the locker room and would not comment on whether sideline -- singletary would be on the s idelines. and if you watched yesterday's game, you know the 9ers were officially eliminated for the playoffs. it was a very frustrating season because many ficked -- picked san francisco to win nfc

west. >> we're kind of surprised. if you don't deliver wins and loses, you are out. the billboard campaign was neat and fun but once the losses started piling up, the ent tartan -- entertaining press conferences stopped in a hurry. after the firing singletary did, one of the greatest experiences was having the opportunity to coach the 49ers. what made it so special were the players. now, many said that they knew singletary's firing was coming. he had only won 18 times in 40 games. the hall of hall of fame linebacker had never within a -- never been a coach before. in any case, he still has two years and $5 million left on his contract. but new york has said that money is no object this time around. they will work on hiring a general manager. there is a press conference set for noon at team headquarters.

time of the year. this is a look at 880 north and southbound. that traffic looks pretty good. you can see that the fog is not an issue although it is o vercast. there is a problem in santa r osa. southbound 101 at bolford avenue there is a large pothole causing a flat tire. they decided to close it. fortunately, today is not a heavy commute day. but right now, traffic is going to be affected by slowing in the area after you get to pengrove and could to thety, it should -- co taughtty it should be ticking up again. picking up again. here's steve. in between systems. the system that's coming in tomorrow will drop more down out of the northwest. so it will have colder air with it by the time we get to answer

onday's flights have already been cancelled. it's something that air travelers aren't used to this time of year. >> there's nobody here. >> reporter: a major northeast storm that created blizzard conditions along parts of the east coast has grounded hundreds of flights. in new york, where 15 to 20 inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 55 miles an hour are expected, all air traffic at three major airports was halted. it could be days before the b acking it log clears and travelers can fly home. >> when your ready to go home, you're ready to go home. there's nothing you can do about it. just be patient. >> reporter: from virginia to new england it's the same song. amtrack was forced to stop some of its service on monday. and the eagles/vikings matchup

remain in custody until their next court hearing. they are charged with planning a series of bombings in what authorities call an extensive terror plot. the nine men were among 12 arrested. there were three men not c harged. details about the terror plot were not released but details say they were planning substantial attacks upon british cities and landmarks. don't expect the government to loosen up on the tough new security screenings any time soon. janet napolitano says the new procedures are here to to say and have made the public significantlyshsh significantly better. 7:19. an arizona state lawmaker is recovering from a christmas day assault. republican state representative frank pratt was attacked, beaten unconscious and tied up when he went to check on his

pool business by someone who was already inside. he was found hours later by his wife who went looking for him when he didn't come home. police are searching for the suspect who also stole pratt's suv. pratt suffered a cut lip several bruises and one fracture. there is a new report out that pinpoints the blame and it reveals the number of pg&e natural gaslines in california that are older than 30 years o ld. plus, a bay area church is forced to close its doors and why some members may have a hard time finding a new place to worship.

a recent federal report says the failures leading up to the deadly san bruno explosion are tied to pg&e and state regulators. investigators were looking into the quality of the wells across the pipe. they say two-thirds of the natural gasline were built before 1970 and experts say the wells used on the san bruno pipe were most likely older models that the federal government issued a warning about back in 1988. time now, 7:23. well a group of hearing impaired parishioners in the east bay have to find another place to worship. they held their last service yesterday. the church has to close because it needs major repairs and it is too expensive for the diocese. this is one of the churchs that offerses an interpreter for the

for travelers. in new york, the heavy snowfall has made driving -- look how hard this is -- it's difficult. residents are being urged to take extra, extra precautions on the roads. the snow combined with really strong winds have stranded bus, train and airline passengers on the east coast. hundreds of flights already have been cancelled there today. and the snowy roads boy, look at this. this is raleigh, north carolina this morning. take a look at what this car is dealing with, handing down a highway during this morning's commute. it lost control, slides for about 10 seconds before coming to a stop. if you have ever been through that, you know how nervous that makes you feel. now he's okay -- places like bridges are still slick and you have to be careful everywhere. >> you really do. all of the snow back east is having a ripple effect on

travel across the country including here in the bay area as we mentioned, all three major airports in the new york area are cancelled or closed, in f act, until midafternoon. we've just gotten word that two more flights have just been cancelled from san francisco international to j.f.k. passengers trying to get into boston are seeing -- are seeing their flights cancelled and are hoping for a flight out some time today. >> it would have been a bigger glitch if we hadn't been able to get a flight and things have become complicated but it turned out okay. >> it's still unclear when travel is expected to get back to normal. we expect to hear from the new jersey port authority in about half an hour to give some more information on the situation at some of the major airports in the new york area. passengers are being urged to allow extra time especially if your plans include flying

blind. the experts say the sea lion will not be released back into the wild. a former dog walker accused of stealing his client's jewelry is due to appear in court today. prosecutors say he was given the keys to various homes in san mateo so he could walk the dogs and stole jewelry worth more than $5500 on different occasions. the d.a.'s office says he gave the jewelry to his girlfriend. he's being held on $500,000 b ail. the antioch city county and the police union are expected to continue negotiations this week in hopes of avoiding budget c uts. six police officers will be laid off if contract concessions cannot be reached by friday. the city council says thief been forced to impose the layoffs because of the union's u nwillingness to make

arrested during the same time period, about the same at last year, but there were only three traffic deaths across all of california. down from 12 last year. 8:05. well, the 49ers will be h olding a news conference today announcing their interim head c o. jim tomsula will take place for mike singletary. he was fired yesterday after the 49ers lost to the sams. now, yesterday's loss eliminated the 49ers from playoff contention for the 7th straight year. mike singing tari is a hall of fame linebacker but he never was a head coach at any level until he took over for the job for the 49ers in the middle of the 2008 season. the 49er won just 18 times under singletary.

foggy weather here in the bay area is causing more problems, in addition to the weather back east. kraig debro has been at sfo all morning. knows all about it. he's back live with the latest. what do you know now, kraig? >> reporter: well, we're being told here because of the fog at sfo, arriving flights are being diverted to oakland, san jose and monterey because of the fog. officials thought the fog would return off with the rising sun. that has not happened. i'm learning that at newark and new york airports, they are making progress clearing the runways but another problem is they can't clear the roadways so people can't get to the a irports. as a result of that, both united and american have cancelled at least a combined six flights into newark and new york a irports. it's not just these two a irlines.
