this fire. as heard from the battalion chief, the cause of the fire and the cause of death are still under investigation. live in walnut creek, ken wayne, ktvu channel 2 news. a deep freeze that blanketed much of the east coast and, from virginia to massachusetts, to boston, to philadelphia, people have been digging out of that blizzard all day. but the big impact really has been on airline passengers that were left stranded by the storm. several major airports shut down causing a ripple effect causing the -- as could the country and delaying flights here. bill martin is in the weather center with the latest from the east coast. but first, rob roth, live at san francisco international airport to tell us how that storm is hurting bay area travelers. rob? >> reporter: gasia, the lines for security at the american airlines terminal have begun to taper off, storms have wreaked havoc on thousands of p

assengers. at least 20 cancelled coming from the east coast and 34 flights going out. this flight was heading to newark. not today. >> i was in my hotel on the fisher'sman's wharf. they said everything was fine. i came out here and boom! i got burned. >> the next flight that they think they will be able too get out is on friday which is kind of a while. mean, it looks like we won't be able to go. >> reporter: the snow is having a snowball effect on the a irlines' schedule. most flights are booked solid this time of year. >> if you have flights running at capacity but you have flights that are cancelled, those passengers are trying to get in the limited seats,

the airport. >> reporter: good evening. that's not the only place there's chaos. it's out here as well. we can tell you there's good news for travelers heading through this area across the northeast. the three major airports i ncluding here at newark they've started resuming flights that happened earlier this evening, not too long ago. here at newark, la guardia and j.f.k. take a look at the scene out here. this is going on all across the northeast. people digging out, trying to get to where they need to go, a lot of people waited 27 hours, 30 hours and they finally d ecided to go along and it looks like that fellow back there may be stuck for a little while, may not be going far any time soon. it looks like this mess will last for days to come. a power winter storm still p ounding parts of the northeast. heavy snow and strong winds cut power to nearly 40,,000 homes and businesses. and officials at boston's logan airport say some stranded passengers may not be able to r

prices at the gas pump are on the way up, reaching their highest point in two years now. according to triple-a, the garage price of a gallon of gas is now up 76% from two years ago. in oakland, it's about 3.31, in san francisco it comes in at 3.37. anna siss say the -- analysts say the increase is probably due too the price of oil. the company that estimates the value of companies, facebook is work about $41 billion. that's about double the value of yahoo!. the report says facebook's value is up by 52% by the middle of the year. apple is shipping more of its iphones overseas. it plans to ship more than 21
