were no flames visible but there was so much smoke in the house they had to cut a hole in the roof to get that smoke out. but by then it was already too late to save 85-year-old keith brooks who may have died from smoke inhalation. >> when we opened up the front door, smoke down to the floor. thick black smoke all the way down. they initiated a quick search, located the victim upstairs in the room of origin. we put the fire out relatively quickly. it wasn't a large fire. at this point the cause of the fire and the death are under investigation. he was the webmaster for this website dedicated to the blackhawks and served in germany during the battle of the bulge. >> he was in that mud field

a santa clara police officer is facing new charges for providing confidential information for a leader of the hell's angels. his name is clay ro rojas. state charges are filed back in october. batencort and an association of him has also been charged. the coroner identified a woman found dead on christmas eve morning at abbott from oakland. abbott's body was found in a walking trail. the coroner has not determined the cause of death but police are investigating it as a homicide. police say at this point they do not believe abbott's death is connected to the stabbing death of 21-year-old jasmine

it takes about 20 minutes for this asphalt mix to cool. once it's been compacted but it looks like any time now this stretch of 101 will go back to two lanes and thankfully traffic will be able to resume it's normal flow. caltrans really did not plan to take on such a major maintenance project today but they had the weather and resources cooperating so they went for it. reporting live in rhoner park, debra villalon. tonight the chp is crediting an alert driver. the man there in the orange short hit a vehicle in salsalito at 3:30 p.m. a witness followed the man all the way to hroner park that's where the chp caught up to him and made the arrest. they say it appears he was drinking. a new tally shows officers arrested 115 people in the bay area over the weekend on drinking and driving

and gone. for second harvest food bank in san jose, that means shelves need to be restocked for the next wave of hungry individuals and families. to do that they need the help of people such as jonathan comisky who came in to make his annual donation of $150. >> thins are difficult, but there's always someone out there that's having a tougher time than you are. >> people are hungry. and so don't slack off folks. >> reporter: last year second harvest was giving food to about 231,000 people a month. this year that number jumped to almost 280,000. second harvest provides foods for many bay area charities including sacred hard community services and city team ministries. so far donations can't keep pace. >> this week is the best week to donate for us because first of all it's going to help us meet our $11 million goal. we're only at about 4 million right now as our last tally.

airport, all three were shut down since yesterday because of a severe snowstorm. that of course had a domino effect and resulted in cancellations and delays across the country. >> i'm trying to get home. i was here for christmas vacation. and i was supposed to fly out yesterday and it got cancelled. so now they're rerouting me to washington dc and i have to get on a wait plane and head back home. >> reporter: it is not the best time of the year for travel. >> we went to new york, new jersey, and now i've been trying to shop around, get a flight to any where. so now i'm stuck going to chicago and now i'm going to be over there until tomorrow morning. >> reporter: all told, 36 flight departures were cancelled today because of the blizzard conditions in the northeast. even international passengers were complaining.
