only minor injuries were reported. a chp officer suffered minor injuries today after a big rig container fell on his patrol car. it happened when the big rig swerved to avoid a latter on west texas street. the officer shut down four lanes of 880 until 10:00 this morning. and livermore man was hurt when his pickup truck rolled over into a canal. it happened a half mile from the san mateo bridge toll plaza this morning. the far right lane of westbound traffic was closed for an hour and a half while fish and game officials checked to make sure any hazardous materials didn't leak into the water. at this hour the coast guard and clean up crews are removing thousands of gallons of diesel fuel from a large boat that capsized. rob roth is live now with the -- robert handa is live now

with the latest on the situation. >> reporter: we're going to show you some video, took place in the turbulent waters. the philly jay ran aground with its crew. >> it could have been worse. but thank god all three are safe. they were able to get off before it capsized. >> right now we're worried about the component, the diesel fuel. >> reporter: heavy machinery was used to remove sand, then a large tow rope was attached. after several tries, workers worked on trying to stabilize the boat. >> reporter: the most dangerous thing you hear is when we start moving the vessel, we don't want it to be fatigued from all it's banging on the water and

maybe break in half. so we're going slowly and safely. >> reporter: after about half an hour, the boat was up righted with no apparent leaks in sight. >> if they can't get it out there, they have to destroy the boat in the water. that wouldn't be good at all. having it up right, they'll be able to get it out. >> reporter: everybody is happy as can be expected. >> it was a good ending, yes. >> reporter: the fuel removal operation began shortly after ward. about an hour and a half ago under the supervision of the coast guard and fish and game. in a few minutes, san francisco police chief george gascon is expected to answer questions about today's officer involved shooting of a man who may have been in a wheelchair at the time. this video shows officers attending to that man after he was shot. the wheelchair is next to them. the department says officers were called to a health services building on howard street at 10:15 this morning to a report of a man slashing

tires. police say the man stabbed one officer forcing them to fire a bean bag gun. police have not released any details about the officer condition. we will bring you the very latest on the police chief's press conference, and of course on bay area news at 7:00 on tv 36. and a man is going into trial for killing his parents. his attorney claims prosecutors are trying to shoe horn the evidence into fitting their version of the killings and that his sister could have carried out that crime. there's an outpouring of support that is committed to helping pets and their owners. it comes after someone broke into the facility over the weekend stealing hundreds of

pounds -- hundreds of pounds of pet food. maureen naylor is live now with the story. >> reporter: the santa cruz spca keeps their food in this outdoor shed. over the weekend someone tried to break in but couldn't because it was locked. they came over the side in here and busted in instead. the no kill animal shelter which is housing 40 dogs and cats had a rough start to the new year. >> there was food scattered about. the door had been pried open. >> it was a total surprise. because it's something we give away for free any way, so for someone to break in and try to take that was just kind of, not sure why, you know. it's kind of a dick -- -- -- it's kind of a kick in the face. >> a lot of people really depend on it. they show up every week at 9:00. they line up on the road. >> reporter: the response since

has amazed shelter worker. an outpouring of support from strangers who came up to clean up the mess. including this man who came in from out of state. >> that's the way i was brought up. we believe in lending a hand. >> reporter: the agency received more than 30 phone calls today with officers to help. this man showed up wanting to buy the nonprofit a new shed. >> i can't believe that they stole dog food, i hope they're eating it. >> reporter: it's received several thousand dollars in just the last two days. the director just came out and told me that an organization of pet food business has offered 700 pounds of free dog and cat food. now a report has been filed with the sheriff's office which is promising to do more patrols in this area. reporting live in santa cruz county, maureen naylor, ktvu channel 2 news. one of only two medical marijuana dispensaries and unincorporated sonoma county

could soon be forced to close because they never applied for a medical marijuana license. under law it could not be allowed to operate in that location because it's near a teenage center. investigators say captain owen honors showed poor judgment when he showed the videos in 2006 and 2007 while serving as the executive officer for that aircraft carrier. in one of the tapes, owens used a jab at gays who were complaining. >> a new tax break, why you're going to have three extra extra days to file your tax

traffic on northbound 880 near the oakland coliseum is back to normal tonight. just after 8:00 this morning, caltrans had to shut down two lanes of the freeway at the high street beltway. caltrans says the potholes are caused by wear and tear and also by the recent rain. san francisco is hoping to prevent new cuts to nummi

service by handing out more parking tickets. the municipal organization faces a 20 million red ticket. officials the agency also plans to speed up the sales of taxing medallions and reduce over time pay. caltrans is planning to reorganize a project at doyle drive. alameda county superior court judge lifted the order. marin county of supervisor

rolling in tonight for the latest on the forecast, let's check in now with our chief meteorologist bill martin. >> it's rolling in from the central valley. and as it fills up in the central valley, the northeast winds are going to push it over into our area, so i'll pull out a little bit and you can see what i'm talking about here. you get fog out in stockton, the northeast wind which blows this way filters to the low lying ground. there'll be more of it tonight than we saw this morning. it was a doze of it, it burned off. we got a lot of sunshine but because of the start with the fog and the cool start to the day: temperatures barely got into the mid-50s in most places. even upper 40s in the forecast. when you get fog, that's a sign that it's stable. right in the summer months when we have the coastal fog when it's real tight. that's a stable environment. the valley fog is no different.

it means an invision which is high pressure. 32 in santa rosa, 34 in san rafael. then 34 in concord, 34 in fairfield. it's about the dewpoint temperature as well. so i mentioned to you in the earlier forecast, once the dewpoint temperature is reached you get fog. once fog forms the atmosphere starts to form. so it's not going to get much cooler than your dewpoint temperature, farmers use that all the time to look for freezing conditions for crops. the warm up continues through friday easily. it's a warming trend, if you get this week off it would be a good week to go to the coastal areas of san mateo because the weather is in sonoma and marin, the weather is outstanding coast side. the least visibility being the inland bay valleys will have poor visibility. north and west of mission peak,

you're going to go 42 degrees in fremont. 56degrees at lunch, 57 degrees for a daytime high. they'll be patchy fog in fremont. not as bad as out toward livermore. once you get right, that's the fog coming from the central valley with the north wind. 55 in fairfield, nice day. you know we have a five day forecast that's dry, we haven't had that in a while so enjoy. because it is winter and things will light up again. you know they will. right now the five day forecast is dry. fog is the headline in the weather center. tonight at 10:00, we will certainly update the forecast and look for any fog that maybe impacting your wednesday. >> and we haven't seen a lot of rain that while. >> i -- rain for a while. >> yeah, i saw a lot of people out washing their cars today. >> me included.

macy's is going to be hiring especially here in san francisco. 725 new positions will help beef up macy's.com and bloomingdale's.com. the internal revenue service is granting a three day extension because april 15th fell on a holiday. the number of people filing for bankruptcy appears to be leveling off. last year more than 1.5 million americans filed for bankruptcy. that's an 8% increase from 2009. the previous years has increased of 42 and 43%. but california saw 19% increase in bankruptcy filings. only hawaii and utah had higher

filings. on wall street, stocks ended the day mixed. tradered shrugged off unemployment numbers. in a little over an hour and a half from now, the numbers from one of the largest lottery jackpot in u.s. history will be chosen. tonight's mega millions dollars is worth $250 million. the lottery is played in california and 40 other states including the district of columbia. the odds of winning is one in 176 million. the largest mega millions jackpot is $395 million back in march of 2007. coming up, the stanford cardinal makes a triumphant return. and the giants championship trophy is back in the area tonight. where you can get an up close
