good afternoon. topping our news this noontime, residents of an apartment s everely damaged by an overnight fire are returning to the scene to see what can be salvaged. we're also learning about a mazing stories of herism including who helped the pregnant safely escape. right now, investigators are looking for the cause of the fire at the apartment complex on claremont drive. tara moriarty has more. she's live. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. firefighters tell us the man living inside the apartment where the fire started right behind me where you can see this balcony -- balcony -- balcony that he actually walked through fire to es kay. he came outside and told his wife he was nearly six months pregnant to jump into his arms. she miraculously walked away from only -- with only scrapes and bruises. around 3:00 in the morning,

will save the state $20 million a year. he wants to reduce cell phone use by those with phones and is asking every department and agency to examine and justify all cell phone use. brown is also working on a plan to reduce the number of s tate- issued vehicles as well. it is now official the word came from verizon that they will carry the iphone. while the excitement has been building for quite some time. there's still many questions and concerns for customers. ktvu jade hernandez joins us with more. >> the manager of this verizon store will allow him to tell family and friends, yes, you can finally get an iphone with verizon service. >> early next month, iphone iv will be part of the portfolio of product the. >> reporter: beginning f ebruary 10th verizon customers will be able to p reorder

online for an iphone iv. the iphone prices are $ 199- point for a 16-gig, and $ 299 with the bigger the big -- bigger-gig. one of the complaints from at&t was dropped calls. but keep in mind, this iphone cannot run voice and data simultaneously as it does on the at&t and verizon is pushing the 4-g network. we spoke to residents all over the bay area this morning. >> i always complain dropped so many calls. i would love to do that. >> i'm happy that at&t has some competition, i suppose. my experience is over the past two years that an iphone has not been all that great. i think it's an opportunity to

pg&e crews spent the night fixing a gas leak in san francisco that forced the evacuation of four homes. the leak was reported around 11:00 last night in the sunset district. firefighters say they were u nable to shut the valves off because it was rusty. it took about four hours for pg&e to stop the flow of gas. people in three of the homes were allowed back home after that. repairs in the fourth home had to wait until repairs were finished and that was not until

4:00 a.m. this this morning. the utility perform a test about ten months before the san bruno blast and fire. experts say it could have exacerbated any weakness in the line. jackie speier said she's o utraged raged that a high- pressure test was performed on a pipe that old. tonight, the city council will discuss how to distribute money to the blast victims of the san bruno incident. city officials will decide the details, such as who is eligible and whether some people should get more than others. security experts are warning facebook users to keep personal information out of the hands of scammers. they say a sacramento area senior was likely robbed by someone who used personal information from her facebook

page. the woman received the call from another woman who claimed to be a granddaughter and needed $4600 for bail money. after the call answered a couple of questions direct -- c orrectly, she found out later, it was a scam. >> my granddaughter is on facebook. i'm on facebook. >> personal and private information on the internet that you don't want to share with the entire world should not be put on there. >> expert say you should be p icky about who you select as a friend on facebook. there are things you can do now to protect your safety. do not post your birth place or date of birth. don't post your child's name in a caption. don't mention you will be able way from home and don't let search engines find you by adjusting privacy controls for friends only. more tests are being done on a

silent night is looking healthier but because of his injuries, he won't ever be able to return to his home. >> silent night resisted getting into the cage. doctors say it won't change silent night's condition. what it will do is help doctors diagnose other wounded animals. most vets say they didn't go to school expecting to treat animals for gunshot wounds. >> that's the other reason we're doing for this. the more we learn about the subtle details of the injuries and how the animals respond, the better off we are. >> reporter: that's know-how that will be useful. silent night is one of 28 sea lions treated for gunshot wounds over -- of the center over the past two years. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 n ews. >> we've heard about this h appening in other places around the country. now sonoma county has its own dead bird mystery. her than a hundred birds were

found saturday on highway 101 south of geyserville, the california department of give and -- fish and game conducted tests to determine what killed them. much larger cases occurred. on new year's eve birds fell from the sky in arkansas. about 500 dead birds were found in louisiana the. the winter storm that's been sitting the -- hitting the south is traveling up the east coast. that's causing a lot of problem. hundreds of flights have been cancelled or delayed. we just checked with sfo. they say there are two-hour delays for flights heading to chicago and boston. atlanta is a little better than yesterday with just about every flight out of hartsfield- jackson airport cancelled. three of the six flights are now cleared to fly to atlanta. let's take a look at the bay area. is there any rainfall yet, s
