people be. >> reporter: santa clara woman cindy mccloud went to graduate school with congresswoman giffords and just returned from standing vigil. >> yesterday giffords opened her eyes, thank god. and that's what we should do. >> reporter: in that spirit the interfaith council which held tonight's conference are planning other gathering to find a way to resolve their differences. the doctors treating congresswoman giffords says she is now making remarkable progress. she is responding to family and friends and doctors say that's a milestone. >> she's starting to become

aware of her surroundings and all the context, the important context, the family friends, a very important step on her next move forward. >> also today doctors began aggressive physical therapy. nurses helped prop her up so giffords could sit up and dangle her legs. doctors hope to remove her breathing tube in a couple of days to determine whether she can talk. ron barber was wounded in the shootings. today she was taken from the hospital in a wheelchair to he could see the flowers and messages out front. he was visibly moved. family and friends say goodbye to the tiniest victim of those shootings last saturday. it was a very emotional funeral service for 9-year-old

politician. and kelly has been by his wife's side, however she may still command nasa's next mission. investigators in tucson today recovered a bag containing ammunition that may have belonged to gunman loughner. authorities said it contained nine millimeter am hue ammunition which is what was used at the shooting. loughner's father reported that his son had a black bag the morning of the shooting. we have news to tell you about concerning a security breech at san jose international airport.

a woman got off terminal b, and for some reason she turned around and went back in. that triggered an airport security alert as tsa shut down normal operations. an airport official told us tsa did locate the woman and is questioning her. they say is incident is not considered a threat and they say no flights have been delayed. in oakland, police announced the arrest of three suspects that has put an end to home invasions. between madge and november police say they carried out 25 home invasion robberies at gunpoint. stealing cash, jewelry, and electronics. >> i don't think there's anything more terrorizing than being at your home in the sanctity of your residence and having someone kick in your door and shove guns in their faces.

police say the suspects targeted neighborhoods where asian and latino immigrants lived. the three are facing 132 separate charges that could result in collective sentences exceeding 300 years. two teenagers were arranged on murder charges today in the killing of another teenager police say 16-year-old franklin shot and killed 16-year-old gene grisbi outside grisbi's grandmother's home. another teen drove the get away car. witnesses came forward to describe the car and identify the suspects. violence prevention is the focus of a new mentoring program which organizers launched in richmond tonight. one idea is to get people acquainted with one another. richmond residents of all ages were encouraged to shake hands

and meet each other. the program is called mentoring for martin. referring to martin luther king jr. the temple nightclub in san francisco has agreed to pursue stricter measures. this comes after a medical student was killed during a brawl on 19th street. the club is voluntarily stepping up securities with twice as many cameras, new i.d. scanners and pat downs. temple club has also agreed to stop selling glass bottles because a bottle was used in that brawl. and san francisco is celebrating -- community leaders gathered for tonight's

there are no plans to cut any factory positions. in san francisco tonight, a beloved fixture on fisherman's ward faces an uncertain future. the olioto fish market is closing. >> reporter: behind me is the olioto fish company. the owner told me that over here, the claim that is called the exxonmobil clean up project has been causing problems since day one. expect for the distant sound of a fog horn, it is a picture of tranquility here on this fog shrouded night behind the olioto fishermen company. according to owner angela sincoti, the noise coming from

the clean up project is unbearable. >> i was in the back of an ambulance having trouble breathing. >> reporter: sincoti says she was suffering an asthma attack. after putting up with the commotion for 10 days, sincoti says her family decided to close the business temporarily starting today. >> we have many other tenants out there. we have not had complaints from anyone else. >> reporter: the clean up project is a result of the lawsuit filed by the stay against exxonmobil. where it once maintained fuel storage tanks. >> what do you want to have? >> it would be nice to be able to operate. you know there's going to be some way to do the clean up and still be able to operate.

>> reporter: sincoti says her family won't reopen the business until the clean up is completed. the port says that will likely be next month. we should make clear that olioto lasios is separate from olioto fishermen's market. the restaurant is not closing. david hill was convicted in 2007 of second degree murder. then district attorney camela harris came under fire for not seeking murder in his case. police say 55-year-old randall duncan stabbed an officer who was trying to subdue him. officers say they tried pepper

spray and a bean bag before shooting duncan. he is being held on a half million dollars bail. the officers are on administrative leave while the case is investigated. highway patrol officers arrested de la fuente two days before christmas. the chp told ktvu tonight they did their investigation. lawmakers in the assembly and the state senate got a closer look tonight at governor jerry brown's proposed budget. the first hearings were held in sacramento. governor brown's goal is to have the project completed on march march 4th.

rain. here's the big story. there's two story, one the fog and two it's not going to rain here for a while. the dewpoint is high. that's because of all the moisture left over by the rain. dewpoints are running about 50 degrees. that's a dewpoint temperature. when the temperature hits 50 degrees fog will form. i got fog in napa, fog in oakland, fog in petaluma and san rafael. dense fog advisory has just gone into effect. when i come back i'm going to show you the latest fog model and we take a look at your bay area weekend. it took a vote, but soon bus riders will have a restroom to use. that new facility doesn't have east restrooms at the moment. riders will have to show proof of payment to a security officer to use those new

some san francisco officials are offering tax breaks to twitter to keep it in the city. they are pushing for payroll tax incentives for twitter and other business in the central market street area. a church group has signed a deal to use the santa clara convention center which is expected to bring millions of the dollars in the days ahead. the christian congregation of jehova witnesses is expected to use the convention for several weekend a year. the conference is expected to draw 6,000 people. some neighbors concerned with possible health effects

and police have arrested a man in connection with two restaurant robberies. angel macias faces charges in two robberies. macias is in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail. two other robbers are still at large. the future of toll takers at the golden gate bridge remains undecided tonight. the bridge district's finance committee met this morning. the district is facing a projected $89 million deficit. the economy plans to take the issue again on it's next meeting on january 27th. california's planned high speed rail is getting a high

grade. linking north california and south california should bring an increase in travelers. sanford university is predicting an increase of applications for the fall semester. they are up 7% compared to last year. that works out to 34,200 high school students. it's estimated one out of 24 of those candidates will be accepted. students have to reply by may 1st. sanford also named a new head football coach today. david shaw will take over for jim harbaugh who was hired to coach the 49 effort. you will hear from coach shaw coming up in sports. the san francisco medical examiner says -- he was a native of mississippi and played the role of andrew the

and out toward the cardenas straight i have fog. that we talked about, that was going to happen when you have that much moisture hanging around. we're in the low 50s, temperatures right now are in the low 50s. when the temperatures and the due point meet you get fog and it forms quickly. tomorrow morning when you wake up, dense fog. patchy dense fog throughout the area. it's not going to get that cold tonight. the coldest spots will be in the mid-40s. some of us will be in the mid- 50s. friday morning's commute, you know the areas. there could be a little more than average. do be prepared for slow going. by late in the day, mid-morning early afternoon it's mostly sunny. morgan hill and down toward santa cruz maybe in the mid- 60s. warper than it has been. low pressure, out of here as it leaves there's moisture at the

surface. high pressure and we get the valley fog. fog out toward us, i wouldn't be surprised if we see a dense fog advisory going into effect for vallejo or fairfield or out toward antioch. and they'll certainly update you to get you going on your roadways. this is a model that attempts to show you fog. this is how it lays it out. friday at 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, it's mostly high clouds and this is mostly high clouds. the but that will be fog. the north bay, sure, more out here toward benecia you bet and out here in the central valley. valley fog is the story, not just tomorrow morning but the next couple of hours as we enter a very fair weather pattern. that's going to take us right through into the bay area weekend. a dry one with lots of fogs nights and morning. it'll burn off pretty quickly tomorrow. i think it'll be a little
