. a man is shot and killed inside a pete's coffee shop. we will tell you how this shooting is connected to a 10 year old homicide case. >> and dense fog expected to return to the bay area. the warning for drivers tonight. >> complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu channel 2news at five. >> good evening. i'm maureen naylor. >> i'm ken wayne. we are learning more about a double shooting in the south bay. we first reported it last night. the man who shot and killed

another man and then apparently took his own life was the brother of a homicide victim. the man he shot may have been connected to her death. we are in san jose with new details and the live report. >> reporter: we are here at the pete's coffee. customers have been surprised that it's closed today and that's because this is where the shooting happened last night. when police responded to gun shots fired they found a 52- year-old wayne sanchez dead with what appeared to be aself inflicted gun shot wound. he is the brother of a woman who went missing in 2001 and is presumed dead. earlier he was inside the restaurant and ran into the man arrested for his sister's murder but released because of lack of evidence. >> during the course of that conversation the suspect accused the victim of playing a

part in the murder and she was murdered in 2001. >> reporter: police say sanchez left the restaurant for a short time and returned. that's what the other man left and went to pete's coffee. sanchez followed. >> they had another conversation inside at which time the suspect produced a weapon and shot and killed the victim inside of the shop. >> reporter: investigators say sanchez left and shot himself out received police are looking in to revenge as a motive. they are investigate figure sanchez was armed inside the restaurant or if he left, got a weapon and came back. > fairly obvious link, further investigation will hopefully reveal more detail of if this was planned or just a chance encounter. >> reporter: we contacted sanchez's parents but his father was to shaken to talk. police have told the loss gatos

department because they working on the original case. ktvu channel 2news. >> union city police aren't sure if a man shot following a bank robbery killed himself or was shot by officers. the robbery at bank of the west yesterday turned violent during the get away. police say the robber was a passenger in a lincoln town car and say he got out and fired at a pursuing officer who fired back. the suspect ran away but was later found dead with a gun shot wound to the head outside a home. police arrested the alleged driver of the get away car, and booked him on rob year i and conspiracy charges. police aren't releasing the name of the deceased suspect. >> dna evidence led police to a man suspected of smashing car windows. it happened in december of 2009 and involved dozens of county vehicles. santa rosa police say they got

blood evidence from broken glass and gave it to the state for testing. the tests identitied a 59-year- old allen snowden. prosecutors haven't said what charges he will face. >> pg and e reports to spiking pressure on ten gas lines in california besides the san bruno line that exploded last year. an investigation said the utility considers temporary spikes of pressure to the legal limits to be a safe practice. however the utility won't say where the ten other lines are in the state. one official said it amounts to russian roulette. >> the city council in san jose about to take on pensions for city workers. the largest city is anticipating a two billion dollar short fall in its fund.

higher it was clear but every time we came down it was really foggy. >> big burst that come through here. >> reporter: a sergeant said this is the time for drivers to be agency. >> obviously want to keep -- be aware of tail lights, hazards in the roadway, maintain with in your lane, you can use the lines to guide yourself if the fog is super thick. you want to focus on what ask in front of you and travel safe speeds. >> reporter: we saw a lot of car that didn't have lights on and lights on is something the police are focusing on. joe said he was caution driving up from san jose to see the city. >> i turned on the fog lights and drive slower and leave more space. >> reporter: is everybody else? >> i think so. i don't think that a lot of people are to conscious of it but in general i think people

slow down. >> reporter: at last report the chp said if there hadn't been any big accidents that were fog related but they warn more caution is needed as long as the heavy fog persists. live in richmond. >> and that fog will persist, in fact it'll get worse. mark is in the weather center with more. >> we have had the rainfall, high pressure overhead, squashes the marine air close to the surface. we have the dense fog across a good portion of the bay area. the clouds have been increasing already. this has been the persistent pattern out toward the delta. we have a fairly weak northerly flow and that's importing some of the fog and on the other side of the bay near the shoreline we have the fog developing here. that's moving into the bay and that will increase in coverage. pretty much approaching the

entire bay area. as far as the fog this starts at midnight until 11:00 monday for the north bay, san francisco, the bayshore line and for the santa clara valley. this could be expanded to include other areas especially toward the delta, visibilities will be less than a quarter mile, could be approaching near zero in a few spots first thing tomorrow. here is the forecast. the short term. 6:00 -- hazy skies, patchy fog will continue to develop into the evening at 8:00 and by ten we should have more coverage this evening with the readings mainly in the 40s, overnight lows with the fog highlighting the forecast, mainly in the low to mid40s. you can see santa rosa at 43. i will show you what happens to the fog and if we have any rain clouds in the five-day forecast. >> the bay area will have to spare the air tomorrow. local air quality officials have issued a spare the area alert for monday, the 4ths one

francisco's drumming communities are gathering to remember the passing of one of their own. they said that a senseless act of violence took his life but his legacy of music will live on. the drum circle started early this afternoon, with one of the members missing. 60-year-old donald better known as zambu. a 23-year-old hit him in the head with a skateboard at this intersection early christmas morning. police arrested him later that day. zambu died four days later. today his sister said she still can't make sense of the attack. >> it didn't need to happen. my heart goes out to the person as well that struck my brother with the skateboard. we still don't know what or why it happened but it did. >> reporter: today's drum circle speaks to his legacy. she said the attack left his children without a father and

cut short her brother's gift for sharing. >> he taught me so much of my history they passed onto my children. >> reporter: >> reporter: he said while zambu may have been killed his legacy will live on for future generations. >> the music that is coming out of us is -- is for him. >> reporter: witnesses to the attack that killed him still don't know the motive. the man accused of killing him has been charged with homicide and will be back in court to face the charges later this month. we are live in san francisco, ktvu channel 2news. >> hundreds of other local musicians preformed in san francisco this afternoon to raise money for homeless youth. the bay of hope concert featured six youth orchestras

from around the bay area. at the end an all-star team played the encore. they say it's a great chance to meet each other while giving back to the community. the first concert in 2009 raised more than $15,000 for several charities that help young people on the streets. >> tomorrow the nation will honor the legacy of martin luther king junior. here in the bay area the city of richmond is asking the community to celebrate by helping make the community beautiful. local nonfrom fit groups asking volunteers to join them at 9:00 monday morning at three locations. richmond greenway, carlton and ohio avenue and at friendship park at end of marina bay parkway. they will plant and weed and pick up trash. they are all invited to participate. bart will be on a saturday schedule for the holiday on monday. that means service will start at 6:00 a.m. and end around midnight. parking free and permits won't

you could see it moving in. >> i like that shot so much in fact we will show it to you again. the fog right now kind of expanding over the bay area and it'll be a factor, significant factor as we head into monday morning. right now the maps as you can see on the live storm tracker two the fog bank pretty much all weekend long out toward concord, fairfield, visibilities in that quarter mile to half mile range. then also in the pacific that fog bank, this picture was snapped about two hours ago but that fog bank has been on the increase. look outside once again. there you can barely pick out the tower there, drive agriculture long the -- along the span, that will be the big concern for tonight and also into tomorrow. here is a look at the overall weather story. fog will continue to develop and then for tomorrow morning watch out for the low cloud deck, temperatures as we head into the afternoon, a few neighborhoods in the mild side. the extended forecast still a dry weather pattern with no

rain clouds, if you are looking for the rain its heading up to the north toward the pacific northwest. even a few showers around crescent city. high pressure remaining in place. that central valley fog. that coupled a fairly week northerly flow, it's pushing the fog back and we just showed you that fog bank. once again the storm track heading up to the north with the dry forecast in place and no rain, beyond the next five to seven days. into next week a slight chance of a few light showers but no significant storm showing up just yet. here we go with the fog forecast model tomorrow morning at 7:00. you can see the coverage focused coast side. into the bay so remember we have a dense fog advisory for most of the bay area tomorrow morning up until 11. visibilities could be less than a quarter mile. we pull back on the coverage with skies becoming partly sunny.

that is all reflected in the -- beginning at 7:00. temperature in the upper 40 ha to around 50 degrees. then into the afternoon patchy fog, we could still have a few lingering patches and then by 3:00 partly cloudy. there is the temperature range across the area and talking upper 50s to the mid60s. santa rosa 66 degrees. in toll afternoon we warm it up nicely for san jose and morgan hill and here is a look ahead. the five-day forecast and will not to much happening this week. once again watching at least the development of the fog during the night and morning hours. the driving especially for the early morning hours, be careful, that will be the real trouble spot in the central valley. temperatures cooling off a little for wednesday, thursday and also into friday. the partly cloudy skies. if you can see two big headlines, talking about the fog and the rain free forecast. we could use rain. the rainy time of the year and we could add it to the totals.
