the man now says that he saw that car go into the canal 45 minutes after cardenas was abducted. so now they've found another object. they have strung a cable between those two trucks snagged on to that object. it is unclear at that point whether whether or not they have enough daylight to send divers in there tonight. we're still waiting to see what they will do on that fourth object. and video you see now is that third car that was pulled out of the water this afternoon. as you can see it is a red mustang. it does not match the suspect car in the child abduction. so the search goes on.

today the sheriff's department used a remote submersible to search the murky water at the delta medndota canal. despite a third car not connected with the case, police have not found the suspect. 4-year-old cardenas was abducted from his home just four miles from the canal tuesday. the suspect is the astranged boyfriend of juliani's mother. and a witness now says that he saw a car matching the suspect's drive into this canal. >> our goal is to definitively say there's nothing there. we've searched it, we haven't missed it. >> reporter: but that search now does go on in this canal. the sheriff says there has not been any activities on the

suspect's credit card and cell phone, he considers it only realistic to consider this canal for now a crime scene. in stanislaus county, ken pretty pritchett. thanks to an amber alert system near perfect track record, here are some of the numbers since it debuted in 2002. the alert system has been activated 175 times. 35 which involved stranger abductions. 218 children have been abducted some of them siblings taken by the same person. one child was killed. 213 were returned safe to their families. three are believed to be living with family in mexico. if anything comes back from ken pritchett's report we will send you back to ken. the factual reports do not contain any analysis. the first one focuses on the

being held here at the tri cities shelter. the father says that his boy is lucky to be alive, but actually the boy is lucky to have a father brave enough to rescue him. the boy is recovering from his injuries. miguel's father etin caranovin showed us how the attack took place. using a planter, his son climbed a fence to recover a ball. >> i could hear the way he was screaming. daddy, daddy. i said where are you add. he said daddy, dogs are eating me. and i could see one had his head in his mouth. the two are shaking him. >> reporter: he kept hitting the dogs with his fist.

then he picked up a wooden plank. >> after i hit him with that, the dog was standing there shaking his head for a few seconds. so i was like, finally something that works. so i started just going nuts with the piece of wood until i got him free. >> reporter: the dog's owners points out that the dogs were in his backyard and points out that he wants to get the dogs back. and etin says that he will try his best for that not to happen. >> they smell him again, i don't know what's going to happen. i can't have those dogs living here again. >> reporter: for now the dogs are still here quarantines for 10 days to check for rabies while the police investigation continues. robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. a young vallejo man is supposed to be heading for work right. police say 23-year-old enrique jimenez was sitting in his white ford bronco just after 5:00 this morning when someone shot five rounds into his body.

for the last five months, the carpenter's apprentice has been meeting with his boss to car pool to work. >> driving five days a week, you get to know somebody. he was a really good kid. really hard working. yeah i considering him my friend. >> reporter: police are still searching for leads in the case. family members say jimenez had run ins with police in the past but his pastor said that he had turned his life around and jimenez' life was a story of redemption. biggest job losses happened in the government. as for the national unemployment rate it was down in december 4/10 of a percent to 9.4%. the job market in silican valley improved slightly as well despite the statewide downturn. the jobless rate in the san

press released a new study that shows 34% of americans believe the economy has improved since president obama took office. president obama welcomed some of america's mayors into the white house. quan and lee were among those in town to attend the u.s. conference of mayors. the local leaders came to washington hoping to get federal funding for their cities. mr.obama told them stimulus money that flowed to cities over the past year is running out. on wall street today the bulls took charge as the markets had their eighth straight week of gains. >> general electric reported strong profits gaining more than 7% and pushing industrial stocks higher. one weak spot was bank of america which reported a $1.6 billion loss in the fourth quarter. the closing numbers were mixed today. the dow jones industrial average up 85 points closing at

contains about a dozen courtrooms, a jail and a police department central station. small wonder that dozens of cars each day are illegally parked on sidewalks, in red zone and at expired meters. >> parking is a huge problem now in this area, it's congested. >> reporter: police vehicles exempted from parking penalties, others are civilian cars that seem to escape ticketing each day. >> yeah, i am worried about getting a ticket. because it's so hard to get parking out here without paying an arm and a leg. >> reporter: with a drop in ticketing rev are revenue, the san francisco municipal -- the sfmta says the police are responsible for enforcing code in a one block radio around the hall. >> my understanding is that the police department is responsible for that area and you know because there's a lot of undercover cars that could

be mistaken for for private cars. >> reporter: but the police department says its shares that with the mta. left in the middle are motorists who say parking violators make it more difficult for those who have priority parking right out in front. >> very difficult, a lot of police cars parked here. some cars that are not handicapped are parked in there as well too because some of the people work here. >> reporter: now the smta says there is one exception that they do target loading zone violators right out here in the hall and they say they are making a bigger effort to go after yellow zone violators all around the city as well. david stevenson, ktvu. and police are looking for a man who they say held three women against their will. the women all in their 70s came in to find a man burglarizing their home at about 8:00 last night. the man told the women he had a gun although they said they never saw a weapon.

one of the women was able to escape. the two others barricaded themselves in a room. they are all okay as for the suspect, though he did get away. one person was killed in an accident in the east bay this morning. the highway patrol says 59-year- old larry cooper pulled his car in front of another car on san pablo road. the second car was traveling at about 35-miles-an-hour and broadsided cooper's car. police say cooper was not wearing a seat belt. two people are in the hospital tonight after a multi car pile up on a foggy central valley highway. the accident happened in south western fresno county. this afternoon, the pile up was cleared. the highway patrol warning the crash on heavy fog which

brought visibility down. two adults were briefly held at the scene. and the coldest locations backed down into the 40s. at least for the inland valleys first thing tomorrow morning. right now in the maps on live storm tracker two. i can tell you this, we do have mostly cloudy skies. you can see over 100 miles offshore, as we head into the overnight hours, the apache fog will development that will impact your visibility first thing saturday morning. here is the forecast in the short term. 6:00, clear sky, temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s. right around 57 to 60 degrees. as we head into the 8:00 hour, still mostly clear then a bit of a chill in the air

especially at 10:00 with those temperatures into the 40s. patchy valley fog targeting san rafael, napa even out toward livermore. those areas will be the coolest in the upper 30s. santa rosa pretty chilly as well. 38degrees and that will be our spot forecast first thing tomorrow morning. so patchy morning fog. hazy sunshine as we head into the afternoon hour. at 7:00 there's a 38 degrees by 12:00 right around 60. then by 4:00 an afternoon high in the upper 60s around 66 to 67 degrees. now here's a look at the satellite, you can see all the active weather up to our north. basically the jet stream way up here. the jet stream produced by a difference in air temperatures with the cold air to the north and the warm air to the south. that produces the strong upper level winds and that's why all the active weather is up here. we had quite a bit of development out there in the pacific. that's churning up the seas, as a result we have this up in

it follows the death of 300 people after a month of demonstrations. flags flew from light poles and government buildings. at the same time protesters demonstrated against the interim government saying it contains too many officials tied to the former president. governor jerry brown's police security are investigating potential domestic terrorist threats to his life. officials are trying to find whoever wrote these messages which first appeared yesterday on walls in the city of santa ana in orange county. one includes a count down that has been repeatedly changed threatening to kill the governor on valentine's day. the graffiti is part of a series of racial slurs that were found on walls there in orange county. in the filing, 62-year-old julie davis says the student at

vaca pena middle school intentionally tripped her and she broke her arm and shoulder. the school tried to have the student expelled but were unsuccessful because of special education laws. davis is afraid for her safety. and barry bonds returned to the san francisco court building today where his legal troubles began more than four years ago. and an update on giffords' recovery. where she was moved today and what doctors are saying about

it was a story ktvu broke yesterday, tonight the investigation into a sex scandal at an oakland elementary school has sparked new allegations. ktvu's john sasaki is live now in oakland. john-- >> reporter: since we broke this story a second graders engaging in sex acts here at markum elementary school we have received numerous reports of shocking sexual and even violent behavior at other schools. now this paper work came from numerous different sources and illustrates several different occasions of groping and violent attacks even attacks on teachers. now we are investigating all of those allegations right now here at markum officials say two individuals engaged in oral

sex. and another occasion, two students took off their clothes in the same class. district officials add that the teacher remains on administrative leave. >> if the report is true, how could such a break in supervision happen. >> reporter: and officials will be here instructing parents and students on the difference of good touching and bad touching. and back to the developing news, tonight police say they have found a third object in the canal there about a mile downstream from where the original search was. it's not clear yet whether they'll be able to pull it out now that it's dark. they may end up waiting until tomorrow. also tonight. police are telling us a witness

we want to bring you an update to some development news out of patterson. we want to take a live picture from where search crews are currently lurking in a canal. we're just getting more word that they found an object, a new object. as you know they've been searching here for the last three days and have found three cars here. we're hearing that they were going to be going in to try to figure out what the new object is. they want to try to secure this, drag it out but it's a very difficult process that they've been going through and we're not sure if they are going to be able to do it

because of the sun setting. we do know they brought sonar equipment in today from the central valley. bringing that in and that's what's helping them in some of these discoveries. they believe the suspect's car is there. the search is for 4-year-old juliani cardenas. he was taken tuesday from his grandmother's arms. we will continue to update this to figure out what exactly they've found and if they're going to be able to go in now. we'll have an update coming up in our 6:00 newscast. the berkeley east bay humane society is rising from the ashes if you will and reopening in stores after a terrible fire. ktvu's christien kafton visited the center this afternoon, and even after eight months of repair, there's still a lot of work to do. >> reporter: morgana is ready for a new home. for the first time since the fire ripped through the center,

the adoption center is ready for visitors. >> this is the first kick off where we want to welcome people to come back in and see all the beautiful cats and in the future we have to have more and more dogs. >> reporter: investigators still have not figured out what sparked the fire. 15 cats died in that fire and there was severe damage. >> all of this has been extensively cleaned and fixed up, repainted, deodderrized and we're back able to dispense all of our medicine. >> reporter: a lot of the work has already been done like getting this operating room ready. but you can see this operating room is still dark. if you look over here you can see that it's still boarded up. what they need is more money to get this place running back at 100%. >> we're still in our plans

jobless sales were up 45% compared to the same period the year before. auto maker saab planning to recall 80,000 cars to repair fuel pumps. some of the fuel pumps may have components with mislabeled specifications. dealers will replace the fuel pumps for free. and the fda says they want better regulation of heart defibrillators. the fda says it's received 23,000 malfunction reports in the past five years. some of which led to a patient's death. the government will convene a panel of experts next week to come up with new quality control standards for the devices. i'm carol han on capitol hill, republicans this week

older models cars and trucks. the old standards only allowed the e15 blend in use for vehicles build after 2007. some car manufacturers have fought the new rules saying that the high ethanol blend can damage catalytic converters with those high ethanol blends. >> mark you are saying not much changing. >> it has been over a week since we've had a rain drop across the bacare and it could be another couple of week -- the bay area and it could be another couple of weeks since we get any. the over all forecast is this across the bay area. overnight we have mostly clear skies, patchy fog will be spreading. same deal for your sunday morning and the extended forecast still we are holdin on to that dry weather pattern.

now tomorrow morning, patchy valley fog heads up especially up in the north bay valleys up toward santa rosa, petaluma, sonoma and nevado. an instant drop off in visibility. so we will be watching out for that first thing saturday morning. the biggest perspective in the pacific high pressure still in command of our weather, the storm track heading way up to our north. a few high clouds will drift over the bay area as we do head over saturday morning. but still, no rain drops expected from those clouds . here is our forecast model, a line of thin clouds. we could have some liering haze especially when the fog forms tomorrow morning. here's your forecast, upper 30s to lower 40s. patchy fog out there. we'll take this into the afternoon hours by lunchtime 65 to 70 degrees. a few high clouds occasionally
