holmes. police, gun fire dear the daily city san francisco border. it was one of two cases in which bay area officers fired their weapons. paul chambers spoke with people living near the scene about what happened. >> reporter: we are live at the scene. let us show you these orange markings. this is where the car was. according to a witness the car was trapped in by police. let me show you what happened next. the driver slammed on the gas and ran into this home. >> as he back up into the character, four shots. i was like wow,. >> reporter: san francisco police say around 7:10 last night a police officer pulled a vehicle over. the driver backed up in the direction of the officer who shot and struck the female. >> he was at the passenger side when the car backed out he kind of just stepped back and shot four times. >> reporter: the driver was

taken to the hospital where police say she has life threatening injuries. the witness believes the officers used excessive force, especially since the car was blocked had no place to go. >> the worst thing he was going to do was hurt the car. there were no officers in the way. the only place he had to go was in the garage. they could have shot the tires. . >> reporter: across the bay a man was shot and killed by police. investigators say that just after 11 school police officers were patrolling the area near a high school dance when they came on two people in a stolen vehicle. an incident broke out when of the officers was stabbed but not hurt because he had a vest. >> the person who attacked the officer was shot, taken to the hospital and then eventually died from the injuries. >> reporter: police won't release the name of the suspect or the victims. we know that there was a gun found in the car in the area

where the victim was seated. the victim has a long police record. we will stay on top of that. live in san francisco, paul chambers. >> the mayor joined oakland residents to try to help improve a troubled city street block by block. they marched cleaned up parts of high street. its part of the ground plan to take back the streets one neighborhood at a time. they also visited for the first home homicide of the year took place. >> authorities say the light from cell phones helped them rescue a pair of lost hikers. the two women called police about six last night saying they were lost in the state park. a helicopter was able to locate them when the women shined

their cell phones up tord it. deputies say they have nighttime vision goggles that let thermoset light. the women were cold but okay. >> searchers still on delta waters looking for a missing san francisco man. his boat was found floating unattended yesterday near bethel island. patty lee is in oakley. >> reporter: deputies say this is the type of boat similar to the one harry lee was driving it. . eight divers unload gear after spending four hours looking for harry lee. >> we just completed a search with the divers. we were unable to locate the victim. >> reporter: for his family who has been pacing the lot along the dock it gives them hope. >> we are holding out. we will stay positive and hope for the best. >> they will try to i guess go

back to the location where they found the boat. >> 100 prayers last night. . >> reporter: the deputy sheriff said the search started yesterday after lee's boat, now docked in an impound lot was reportedda drift by another fisherman. >> he had been fishing with the motor down and it maybe hit an object, maybe knocked himn. >> he loves to fish. >> reporter: family said he has 15 years of experience fishing the delta and is a strong swimmer. rescue workers say he had a flotation device but it was manually operated. a helicopter is flying overhead right now. it went up about 20 minutes ago and has been circling low. right now that search is continuing for harry lee. his family is standing by if

hoping for the best. reporting live. patty lee, ktvu channel 2news. u. a man under arrest accused of firing at a crowd of people outside a pizza parlor. the first shots rang out just after five outside mountain mike's pizza on clayton road. justice price had been in a fight earlier, then got a gun and started shooting. he drove away and a woman followed him and he allegedly started shooting at her while driving on clayton road. nobody was hit by the gun fire. police later tracked him down but didn't find a gun. vallejo police released the identity of a woman shot and killed yesterday. the body of the 27-year-old was found inside a car. witnesses spotted two suspects leaving the scene. a detectives are looking for the second suspect. a motive hasn't been determined.

>> police in haywood say alcohol likely played role in a deadly crash. it happened around 7:45. police say the suspect rear- ended a truck. the 38-year-old passenger in the truck was killed. the driver had minor injuries. the suspect may have been involved in two hit and run accidents just before the fatal crash. he was also hurt but his injuries are considered nonlife threatening. the calendar says january but it feels more like spring with 70-degree temperatures around the bay area. mark is standing by with the numbers. >> we should just be talking about 50s this time of year but these are the current numbers. san jose right now, 66 degrees, last hour san jose at 70. san francisco 63, napa in the upper 50s at 57. the forecast for tonight, at least in the short term is this, at 6:00, 57, clear and

year-old and his alleged kidnapper. today neighbors and friends continued to search the boy's hometown of patterson hoping for clues. authorities say he was snatched from his grandmother's arms on tuesday by his mother's ex- boyfriend. the grandmother said this afternoon she believes based on prayer that this ordeal is nearly over. >> today is the day that my son is going to come home, my grandson, he is going to be here because when i pray i bring all the saints. >> praying forgiveness for jose. >> reporter: the suspect jose rodriguez has family connections in san jose. police are now focusing their search there and along highway 99. you can follow the search for the boy by logging onto channel 2's website and clicking on the right now section. >> the san francisco board of

supervisors is scheduled to consider a four million dollar settlement tuesday for a teen boy whose sister died in foster care. prosecutors say the 15-year-old jasmine davis and her brother were abused by their guardian as well as their birth aunt. san francisco child welfare workers placed them with davis when they were babies. jasmine died in 2008. an autopsy report described scars and injuries and noted she weighed just 78 pounds. davis is charged with murder and torture for her death. a mountain lion seen near homes on the penninsula is still around. the office of emergency services said it was spotted just after nine in wood side near interstate 280. this is the second one cited this month in wood side. emergency officials advice

senate political back and forth continues this weekend ahead of the state of the union address. health care was a hot topic today as republicans move forward with plans to repeal last year's historic overhall of the health care system. >> the message we campaigned in november -- in the last november elections that we would repeal and replace and we have to have a vote on repeal so that everybody is on record if they want it and i think piece by piece we go through replacing. >> critics of the efforts are calling the move political theater because it has nearly no chance of passing the democratic senate. >> the president getting ready for his second state of the union speech this week. we take a look at politics of the president's language. >> reporter: republicans are already bracing for what they expect in the state of the

endorse the president during the 2012 campaign. >> clarence thomas is being accused of breaking the rules when it comes to reporting his wife's earnings. according to a group he failed to report her income in his financial disclosure forms for at least five-years. between 2003 and 2007 virginia thomas earned more than $686,000 from a think tank . the failure to disclose could result in a civil penalty. >> a woman accused of stealing a baby from a new york hospital 23 years ago and raising the child is in custody tonight after giving up to authorities. she turned herself into the fbi in connecticut on a warrant out of north carolina. she was on probation and wasn't supposed to leave. authority its have been looking for her to question her about the kidnapping of carlina

white. here is a picture of white. she was just 19 days old when she was taken from the harlem hospital. >> last year's oil spill in the gulf may be affecting those who collect or eat crab from that coast. a group tested a dozen gulf coast residents and found four have extremely high levels of benzinn their blood. they were all crabbers from a coastal town. the youngest a 10-year-old has breathing problems blamed on chemical exposure. it's a toxic chemical found in oil and is linked to disorders and cancer. >> its been two weeks since the tucson shooting. how people are helping the dozens of victims of that. >> and it sparked outrage when it happened. today there was a key ruling on the deadly israeli raid on an aid flotilla to gaza.

senate man accused of shooting and wounding gabreille giffords set to make his second court appearance tomorrow. >> reporter: the 22-year-old suspect will be arraigned on three counts of assassination and three counts of attempted murder. he is expected to be back in court tomorrow afternoon. he is a accused of shooting and killing six people in front of

a tucson market on january 8th. he could face the death penalty if convicted. a judge, a 9-year-old girl and a staffer were among the victims of the shooting. authorities say gabreille giffords was the target. she survived a gun shot to the head and started a new chapter in her recovery, she is in the icu at a houston hospital that specializes in head trauma and doctors say she is making progress. >> she didn't need as much help as they thought. there were still people holding her as was described but she is using her mussls. >> reporter: meanwhile in her home district more than a thousand mile away the community is finding ways to heal. in tucson hundreds of people hit the pavement for a 5k run. >> the tucson community wanted to support this as well and wanted to help us as well. so people just started registering for it and it turned in to an event.

>> reporter: 9 money raised will go to help the victims of the shooting. ktvu channel 2news. >> the doctors say she will likely start intensive care until the end of the week because of the slight build up of spinal fluid in her brain after she was transferred by air. >> today a staff member shot twice during the shooting said the shock has not worn off. >> can't help but continue to see the shooter, rush past me and shoot her and then he started spraying all of us with bullets. >> reporter: ron barber said he has no desire to talk to the suspect in the shooting but he said he sends the family love and prayers for their recovery as he feels they are victims as well. >> turkey and hamaas disputing

a report clearing israel of wrongdoing. it clears the military and soldiers says they didn't violate international law during the incident. nine people were killed when soldiers stormed the ship as peace keepers on board attempted to bring supplies into gaza. >> the interception was legal in the way or forces acted was also in accordance. that can't be said for those hard core activists on the boat. >> turkey did it's own investigation and said they turned the result over to an international panel. >> in iraq a series of explosions claimed the lives of ten people and injured at least 34 more in baghdad. the attacks happened over a three hour responsible. place say the bomb attacks were to try to undermine security before a meeting of arab heads of states in two months. they say the explosion was immixes of roadside attacks, suicide bombings and car bombs

and the officials say they believe those behind them want to make iraq look dangerous since the yearly summit will be held in baghdad. in the philippines five americans reported missing at sea are safe and back on dry land tonight after their boat was found. the coast guard saw them off the coast yesterday but poor visibility prevented spotter planes from identitying it until today. the coast guard said it it appears the boat ran into engine trouble after leaving. the embassy hasn't released the names of the sailors. in australia rural towns are bracing for another week of floods. massive widespread flooding started a month ago and killed 30 people and damaged thousands of homes. . they are warning a cyclone could develop. it is expected to bring strong winds and rain. australia's deputy prime minister said the floods will rank as one of the most costly

. a crack has killed a motorcyclist and his passenger. the motorcyclist was speeding in excess of the 25-mile an hour limit on christine drive when he crashed in to a parked suv. officers were already in the

neighborhood responding to complaints of a dangerously fast motorcycle. police haven't released the victim's names yet but the man and the woman were both from vacaville in their 40s. >> oakland police investigating a shooting which left a woman injured during what appears to have been an attempted kidnapping or carjacking. she was in her driveway when she was shot twice around 1:00 in the morning on 69th avenue. she had just pulled up to the house when she was attacked by two armed suspects possibly teens. it's not known how seriously she was hurt and so far no arrests have been made. >> a crippled cruise ship is docked in san francisco bay waiting for much needed repairs. that massive ship recently left thousands of passengers stranded. >> reporter: as the sun rose our cameras watched as the carnival splendider made it's "into the bay. >> it's strange to see a ship just sitting there. >> reporter: some thought it

want to be on the first one but maybe the second or third. i'm sure they will rebuild the engine. >> reporter: repairs set to start tomorrow. we don't know how long those repairs are going to take but we know the line wants the ship ready for its next cruise set for february 20th. in san francisco,. >> federal regulators reportedly miss at least two chances for stricter oversight of pg&e's pipeline. the chronicle reports the administration considered tougher reporting rules in 2003 and 2005 but never did them. accurate records are at issue in the september explosion after the blast the agency passed stricter rules requiring companies to report the techniques they use to check pipelines. >> police, gang prevention

. an arctic blast is causing the temperatures to drop below zero across the midwest and northeast. most are making the best of it but for some the freezing air is proving to be dangerous. >> staying outside, exposed to temperatures as much as 12 below zero is not advised. . >> our special needs -- that have grown with frost bite wounds. we have -- feet is a big thing. a lot of that and so that -- that's been a big concern. >> reporter: arctic air, in the big apple. >> i don't like the cold. >> i dread coming outside. >> reporter: bundling up is the name of the game. wind chill temperatures expected to dip from 30 to 50 below zero in parts of new

mark is in the weather center. >> yeah. nothing but good news in the weather department. day ten of the dry weather streak. we could use the rain and we are looking for that change in february but today temperatures went up. we have changes just to the east of the bay area. right now on the maps i can show you on live storm tracker mainly patchy fog. it's not to impressive right now but what happens for the overnight that patchy fog will expand in size and that will be approaching the delta. it was the case earlier this morning. that will impact temperatures and visibility into monday morning. we have that off shore flow, that helps us with some of the fog closer to the bay area. we will be watching out for that at least in the short term. look at the highs today. most areas a good eight to 13 degrees warmer than normal and you can see santa rosa topping at 70, san jose 71, oakland tying that record with 72 and livermore in the upper 60s at

68 degrees. weather story, fair skies, patchy fog develops overnight mainly for the inland valleys. tomorrow patchy fog and a few high clouds overhead into midmorning and beyond. the extended forecast still that dry weather pattern in place. you can see the high clouds at least the main stormy weather up to the pacific northwest and a few high clouds that will loop this again moving across the bay area earlier today and we could have another batch for monday. here is the fog developing and expanding in size at least in the short term over the next few hours. those off shore winds. dense morning fog for the inland, especially closer to concord and fairfield, possibly a few patches in the north bay as well for santa rosa and napa. that will impact your visibility. once again the storm track way up to the north another dry week and temperatures in fact could be warming up more as we do head into tuesday. you will see the chances showing up on the five-day forecast. here we go with the cloud cover forecast at ten.

doing a nice job this is 10:00 tomorrow. i'm picking up the high clouds for tomorrow and still pretty much the same story at three, four and five but not one drop of rain expected from those clouds, here is the forecast beginning at 7:00. upper 30s to the upper 40s with patchy inland fog, by 12:00, 53 to 58 with partly sunny skies, highs on the increase and by 3:00 57 to 67 degrees. the upper 50s mainly in the inland valley was the fog, will impact the temperatures as you can see right around brentwood, antioch and concord. away from that san francisco and oakland, once again back up into the lower 60s. san jose 6a and santa cruz perfect weather if you like the mild temperatures. those readings around 70. here is the look ahead. the five-day forecast a weak system that will move in monday nightt. won't produce rain but will

increase the wind speeds, temperatures in fact warming back up on tuesday in the upper 60's to the lower 70s. a little bitl bit of cooling for wednesday and thursday and then partly sunny skies on friday and just looking at the long range models not a drop of rain for the rest of the month. by the way we are talking about 70's in the bay area. it's nine degrees in minneapolis. >> wow. >> this is kind of crazy. pushing 70 degrees in january. >> it normally -- for this length of time. that is also strange as well. you know growing up i remember nice januaries and februaries but to have temperatures spike up this much in two days of record heat, it is unusual. >> then while we like the nice weather without any rain there are consequences. >> definitely. we had the rain bucket filled in december but we will have to watch that for february. >> okay. thank you mark. 25 feet of snow in tahoe. >> still there. >> thank you. >> a manhunt underway in

sonoma after a brazen home invasion. at least nine people, some of them armed burst into a home and terrorized five residents. they tied them up. it happened last night. several item its were taken including mariner from that residence. nobody was hurt. we will have more on the story tonight. we have reporter on the scene. it looks like the bay area ham competition for hosting a battleship. two groups one in san francisco the other in los angeles are hoping to bring the iowa to their city as a tourist attraction. the ship's memorial wants them at mayor island while another group wants them in the community of san pedro near the port of loss angeles. the navy expects to decide in the next few months. >> waste management arming trash truck was a new way to help stop crime. they aree equipping them with
