the search is over for a missing woman. where the authorities found her body. a as family -- as a family waits for answers, a major search in the 4-year-old julianne has concluded. police still investigating the officer-involved shooting from this morning. the police say the suspect was wielding a gun, but the gun was fake.

good evening i'm ken wayne. heather holmes is off tonight. we begin with developing news out merine county whether the bodies of a missing ross woman was found. the body of debora schmit was found in a creek bed near her home in ross. she was last seen a week ago wednesday and failed to show up to class on the following thursday at high school where she was an english teacher. searchers launched a search including golden gate park in san francisco. she leaves behind a son in the 8 8th grade. the cause of her death is under investigation. for the latest on the search of 4-year-old juliane cardenez. dive teams wrapped up their search today without locating him. the first reaction from his

family since the kidnapping suspect's car was found in the canal. >> reporter: ken, we are at the family home, and you can see the candles are burning as they always do in the driveway of the home. the family says they believe he is still alive, and he is in the hands of his captor, despite according to the sheriff, evidence of the contrary. >> reporter: 4-year-old juliane was abducted january 18th, and it's said jose snatched him from his grandmother's arms. despite finding the car at the bottom of the canal and a witness saying the man and the child were in the car when it sank, the family has a message. >> bring him soon and have a heart. >> reporter: his grandmother says they believe the car was empty all along, and that's why no bodies were not found. >> the car was in the canal,

and he had plans already, believe me. >> reporter: but the sheriff's department says two windows were down and they believe the bodies are in the canal. the car was trapped in an underwater tunnel. today the dive teams were called in to search no bodies were found. >> as of right now the dive teams are done going into the water. >> reporter: with the tunnels checked, tactics will change, and a visual search will be conducted by law enforcement for erfle counties along the 90- mile canal for signs of bodies. >> it will be patrols on the road and in the air with the california highway patrol. >> reporter: for now the family waits, a wait made easier thanks to help from their community. in patterson, den pritched. >> we have been covering this story since he disappeared almost two weeks ago. stay with us for continuing

continue. today in cairo, thousands of demonstrators crowded on to a bridge over the nyle river. military troops and tanks were on the streets. the government imposed a curfew for several towns. so far 100 people have died in the five days of demonstrations. supporters of the egyptian protesters rallied in new york city today. the crowd was loud and emotional, but it was peaceful. they called for the international community to support the uprising, and similar protests were held today in washington, dc, los angeles, chicago, and seattle. oakland police today shot and killed a man who was brandishing what was a fake gun. kristen captain is live where witnesses first said that the man was in plain dressed clothing.

>> reporter: investigators are just winding down the search in oakland. they have been trying to piece together what happened in the shooting. ktvu was on scene by 10:00 this morning, half an hour after the shooting, and we got this video of the aftermath, and neighbors called for help after seeing the suspect patrolling the neighborhood. police say he was "prancing around holding a knife and what looked like an automatic weapon." shortly before the officers arrived the witnesses say he broke into what was his girlfriend's home and one of the residents of the house came running out saying the suspect was in the home with the exgirlfriend. the suspect came out on his own moments later, and officers told him to put down his weapon, and officers say he didn't so they fired several times, killing the man, and then came the inspection of his weapon. >> we determined later on that the weapon was a replica assault weapon, however it looked very real. >> reporter: the officers

involved are now on paid administrative leave while the district attorney's office, the internal affairs, and the homicide department investigate the shooting, and police are telling us that no one aside from the man with the replica gun was injured in this morning's incident. back to the live shot, you can see that the crime scene investigators are in the neighborhood, and we can tell you a lot of neighbors have been milling around in disbelief about the shooting, trying to process what happened here today, and they say this is usually a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. we are live in oakland, chris tan capman, ktvu news. -- christian capman, ktvu news. a man and a woman were not hurt when they jumped out of their first floor window after a fire. several people reported the fire around 8:00 this morning. one was a man who had to be treated for smoke inhalation after kicking in the front door. fire crews contained the flames in an hour, and the cause of

the fire is not known. a marijuana growing operation is being blamed for a fire inside of this home on 104 104th avenue in oakland. firefighters saw smoke from the roof when they arrived at 9:30 this morning. >> it was complicated by the fact if there's a grow operation here, and the electrical was not up to code. >> reporter: the firefighters put out the flames in 10 minutes but they found another problem, a pit bull in the back of the house with a litter of new puppies. animal control was called to help with the animals. they dried and warmed the puppies. they were taken to a shelter until the owners are found. no word if drug charges will be filed against the people who live in the house. a daly city woman was arrested after she drove her vehicle into a bar.

there's the truck right through the window. two patrons were taken to the hospital with their conditions not released. the driver of the truck charla andres was taken to the hospital and later arrested. investigators on the scene say andres was cut off by the bartender earlier in the evening. the chinese new year's festivities are getting underway in san francisco and scott ed lee got a warm welcome at the chinese new year flower fair. >> brother and mayor ed lee! come on! >> it features traditional dancing, and fresh flowers flowers are for sale. flowers are symbolic of wealth, and in the home of a plant that blooms on new year's day signifies prosperity. it's not all about the books. a new library is being touted for a window on the world for

nannies in san francisco could soon get their own parking permits. a group of parents said it's a hazard for the nannies to leave their children to move their car every two hours. on tuesday the metropolitan safety committee will consider a parking pass exclusively for members of child care providers. pooches on parade in daly city today. the bonegate kennel club has the all breed dog show today including the fly ball demonstration today and an all breed fashion show. best in show dog will be named in an hour and tomorrow the best puppy will be named it will open tomorrow morning at 8:30 at the cow palace. it may be winter, but baseball is just around the corner. how long some a's fans waited outside for the wet cold rain for the 2011 season.
