your sunday will be a complete watch, coming up. the egyptian community here in the bay area continues to try to get information from out of that country. ktvu's allie rasmus is at the islamer center where services started just about an hour ago. good morning allie. >> reporter: good morning, prayer service wrapped up about 15 minutes ago. you can see the lights are still on and the áf there's still cars in the parking lot. 25 to 30 members of this mosque are either from egypt or have family in egypt and that the protest is going on, they are very much in the minds of the minds of this mosque. today marks the sixth day of widespread protest in egypt. hundreds of thousands of people have taken taken to the

streets calling for the resignation of the president. some of the people greeted military tanks, they were happy to have the tanks come in and the military coming in. because we hear that the people of egypt greatly respect the military there. here in oakland, people at a morning prayer service say they are following the events there closely. >> we have to have a sympathy for their demands. because you have one party in power for many years and many people are enpoverished.

and hillary clinton did speak on this topic, we'll hear what she had to say. allie rasmus, ktvu news. supporters of the protesters in egypt took to the streets to show their solidarity. bay area egyptians and other supporters called on the white house to condemn the egyptian president who they call a dictator. >> either you stand for democracy or not. president obama said when he was in cairo, that he was for democracy. this is the right time to be

the áf together with history. similar demonstrations were held across the country, including this one in washington, d.c. the people beared the cold weather to ask for the president the step down. police are investigating more than a dozen residential burglaries. the crimes had been recorded in the tierra linda neighborhood. mostly cash, jewelry and electronics have been stolen but in one case they stole a car. investigators say sonar has confirmed there are no bodies

page for a popular bay area teacher continue s to be filled. the terra linda high school teacher was reported missing november 30th. investigators say there are no signs of foul play. family members have said shmitz was going through a divorce but it is not known if that played a role in her disappearance. a double shooting left one man dead and has police searching for victims. the shooting happened in front of a bar called my office. but when police got there they found a group of people, bullet casings and blood on the pavement but no victims. it was moments later that they found two victims of the shooting. eric lynne, another shooting victim also found at the hospital is in stable condition. no arrests have been made. the monterey county state department has issued a recall

for cilantro. that recall blamed on possible salmonella contamination. health officials say the cilantro is sold in bunches and has the code you see on the careen. s c reen, so far no illnesses have been reported. and a quake was felt this morning just after 6:15. the shaking was strong enough to wake up residents in danville and walnut creek. the quakes though were centered in alamo. the weather system that was with us this morning is headed to vallejo. you can see the roadway is covered with snow and that's expected to get a little more by the time the day is done. good morning to you, and a

many republicans and democrats say it faces too big of a burden on business and it appears there will be enough votes in the house and the senate to repeal that provision. later today, secretary of state hillary clinton heads to haiti to mediate a crisis there. clinton will speak to the president and the man expected to succeed him. the organization of american state says he says the -- the predecessor had the least support and they want him to vow out. more than 80 artists donated their work last night. the money is going to help for

this afternoon the film about his story will be played at wheeler auditorium. >> governor brown now wants authorities to take custody of -- the state's juvenile justice agency has been the target of critics for high cost and poor treatment. brown wants the office closed down in three years. governor brown says he will not try to scare people into going along with his budget proposals in his state of the state address set for tomorrow nigh. many democrats wanted the governor to outline what ppen. but brown says he prefers reasoning with californians instead. a recent poll found a majority of voters agree with his call to withdraw income car if the money will be used to spare

in long beach are searching for a gang member who opened gunfire. two officers were riding in their patrol car when one of the officers was hit in the chest with a bullet. the officer was hospitalized and it doesn't appear the wound is life threatening. police in north dakota have made no arrests in the shooting death of four people. the unidentified victims were found in two separate homes. a 19-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment. moments later her mother, and boyfriend and another man were found in their home. jered loughner pled not guilty. a california judge will hear

the case because arizona judges have recused themselves. the prosecutors will ask for life in prison. and twice attached to an atm at the tierra linda branch took password information from customers, including marin council susan myers. these are images of the so called geizer robber during the most recent heist on friday near santa barbara. he is suspected of robbing 11 banks in san diego and one in bakersfield since 2009. the man appears to be in his 70s but there's also speculation that he could be wearing a mask with elderly

features. this morning in germany, the death toll could rise from a head on accident between two trains about 140 miles southwet of berlin. the impact was so strong the train was catapulted off the track. they were calling it one of the country's worse train wrecks. they fear that some of the 2,300 passengers were so severely hurt they may not survive. rescue workers are searching for survivors in the rubble of a collapse. the building was under construction and it's believed the three workers are trapped. emergency workers are right now trying to find the missing workers. six other people were also rescued. i thought it was a bit refreshing. finally some precipitation here in the area. rosemary is it going to stay? >> it's going to stick around at least for the first of sunday. if you had enough, it's going

around oakland as well. the rain will continue to fall. we'll see the brunt of the moisture moving through this morning. by this afternoon, we'll begin clearing out. it's easier to see without the radar how the center circulation is pretty much rolling right over the bay area this morning. and that's bringing even the possibility of a little bit of thunder and lightning. the winds have picked up in and around san rafael. if i bring you through the next couple of hours notice how they sort of die down. then calm as we head in toward the evening. cloudy skies out there and we are very soggy. but not too cool, 53 in oakland so i don't know, a mild start but because it's damp it will feel pretty chilly. upper 40s for napa as well as santa rosa. your afternoon highs will be similar to yesterday but will have sunny sky, at least partly cloudy in most cases. mid- and upper 50s for the north bay. san mateo looking at 55 and 58 degrees expected in santa cruz.

airport have been cancelled. the state department is recommending americans in egypt leave the country for their own safety. today marks the sixth day of widespread protests in egypt. protesters want their long time president out. he has been the president there for nearly three decades. and protesters are calling for reforms and an end to some corruption in the egyptian government. the government has cut off internet access in the recent days to stall some of the coverage. a lack of economic opportunities is what's behind the frustration with the government says a local man. now some of the protests have turned violent and while this political unheavel upholds, people call themselves in a tough spot. hillary clinton seemed to

as they marched to the plaza calling if for new democracy in egypt. a small earthquake shook this morning. although minor it was enough to wake up people. the quakes were centered in alamo. law enforcement agencies from several counties will now begin a visual search of the 90- mile mendota canal for any sign of 4-year-old juliano cardenas and his abductor. sonar radar confirmed there are no bodies in the area where the car was found. but they still believe it's some where in the canal. juliani's grandmother thinks

that they are hiding out some where. >> if they are looking for me, and they can't find me because my car is in the canal. he had plans already, believe me. >> we've been covering this story since juliani cardenas disappeared more than a week ago. we are updating our information on our website 24/7. questions remain this morning about the death of a missing teacher who's body was found in marin county following an extensive search. the body of debra shmitz was discovered yesterday. the tierra linda teacher went missing. family members had said shmitz, was going through a divorce but police have not determined if

that's a -- the cause of her disappearance. police responded to a group fighting at kaiser permanente. officers discovered smith had died at the hospital. another shooting victim was also found at that hospital. he is listed in stable condition. we're hearing this morning that customers of a marin county bank were victims of an atm skimming device. chase bank confirmed that a device at the tierra linda bank took pass code information from customers including susan adams. it happened just before the martin luther king jr. weekend. caltrain faces an uncertain future despite cut backs, they are still dealing with a $30 million budget deficit. the friends of caltrain held a summit in san carlos yesterday

this morning thousands continue to take to the streets of cairo egypt in anti government protest. and the u.s. is warning it's citizens to leave that country as soon as they can. welcome back to mornings on two, i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm mike mibach. in egypt, thousands of demonstrators are once again going to the streets. ktvu's allie rasmus is live. >> reporter: the director of this mosque here in oakland says 25 to 30 of the people who regularly pray here are either from egypt or have family in egypt and obviously they are following the events going on in that country very closely. many flights right now are cancelled out of cairo's airport. the state department is recommending all americans in egypt should leave the country.

today marks the fifth day of protest in egypt. he has been the president there for nearly three decades. and protesters believe he is a corrupt dictator and are calling for reform to the egyptian government. we spoke to an egyptian man this morning. he says he thinks a lack of economic opportunity in his native country is what's behind the frustration. >> i am in a position with egypt. i came to america because there is no future back there. so that's the issue of all this. unemployment is incredible. >> now secretary of state hillary clinton is calling for a quote orderly transition to a quote real democracy. she spoke on several morning television shows this morning. the president is a long time ally of the u.s., but the state secretary's comments seem to suggest that despite that long

term alliance, the american government is sympathetic of the residents. >> those who have advocated a peaceful transition. where the egyptian people themselves get to express their views. >> reporter: now in the last several hours, egyptian military jets have flown over several cairo neighbors in an apparent attempt to restore order and make their presence known. but the civil and political unrest continues today for six days in a row. nearly a week of protest there. and supporters of the protesters in egypt took to the streets to show their own solidarity. bay area egyptians and other supporters called on the white house to condemn egyptian president who they called a dictator. the al-jazeera network is vowing to provide coverage of

fear being on the street because there's a large support of the white jackets. supervisor david campos wants to give those kids free rides for the last three years of the school year and he wants to see if nummi can give all san francisco school kids free rides next year. a big day set for tomorrow. monday marks the university imposed deadline weather to reinstate baseball and three other sports. athletic supporters will sit down with campos administrators to submit final proposals for the reinstatement of the program. the university says it cut the teams to save the campus nearly $4 million annually. a ski train may be just the ticket to get more people up to squall valley. if that deal moves forward, bay area residents would be able to take a ski train to lake tahoe.

just a little bit. uc police have arrested a tree sitter on attempted murder charge. they say matthew dodd invited the victim into the street and then attempted to slash his neck when the two argued. but dodd told the californians that he was protecting himself after someone tried to cut down the tree. the man was occupying the tree to protest changes at the park. five members of a drug ring have now been -- mitchell was shot when he grabbed an officers wrist. officers only found a small amount of marijuana and a handgun, his family filed a wrongful death lawsuit. but the judge ruled that officers responded with a

at the time, but no one was hurt. one detective was hit in the upper body but fortunately his injuries are not to be life threatening. 60 to 70 officers have been searching the mcarthur area. a passenger train slam into a freight train about 125 miles southwest of berlin. german officials say the impact was so strong the passenger train was catapulted off the tracks. there are calling it one of the country's worse train wrecks and they fear that some of the 23 injured passengers were so severely hurt they may not survive. an in brazil, rescue workers are searching for survivors in the rubble of a collapsed skyscraper. it is believed that three workers are currently trapped. energy workers are trying to breakthrough the walls to find the missing workers. at least six other people were also injured.
