good morning everybody. i'm kraig debro in for dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. two people are dead after a shooting at a popular san francisco tourist attraction. ktvu channel 2 reporter jade hernandez is live with what people in the area are saying. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. about a half hour we spoke to a resident running here. she says she takes any precaution she can but expects anything because she lives here in san francisco. >> i usually don't come out here at night just because that's my schedule. there's a shooting up on bay street. that's another area i'm up near. every area is just dangerous and you have to watch what you are doing. >> reporter: police say two employees inside, a a man man and a woman, were shot sometime

before 8:30. we don't know if the store was open when the shots rang out. but many of the shops around fisherman's wharf closed early. the store has a garage door storefront. police arrested one man in connection with the shooting. we're told they are not looking for any one particular suspect. >> my understanding, it was detained quickly and there were no other individuals in danger. >> reporter: i want to show you that this is the factory that's right next door to this storefront which actually has no permanent store name on the front. it just says that it sells discounted perfume. right here where the shooting happened is joe's crab shack. we are trying to give you an idea of where the shooting

tropical cyclone anthony made landfall in queens. right now, a second cyclone is building up strength in the south pacific. that is expected to hit wednesday or thursday with winds at 160 miles per hour. hundreds of cars along japan's west coast are stranded on roadways because of heavy snow. people spent the night in their cars and the snowplow and they get sot -- the snowplows are used. officials in marin county are ruling out ecotrim for a sewage spill. they had previously reported that sabotage led to the spill

san francisco police are trying to determine a motive for a double homicide that happened last night in a souvenir shop in fisherman's wharf. >> it's a regular retail type

shop that sells items and it appears the victims worked at the store. >> both victims were pronounced dead. jade hernandez is on the scene and will a live update from about a half an hour. some uc berkeley athletes will find out if their programs will be saved. >> reporter: now that the sun is up we can give you a better view of the cal baseball filed. let's shot you what the view looks like. the cal baseball team begun their season practice on this field just this weekend but this may be the last year the team plays at uc berkeley. ktvu caught up with the team yesterday during their afternoon practice on the field. they are expecting to find out today whether their support will be reinstated. the university decided in

september to cut baseball, men's and women's gymnastics to save about $4 million. the same time the school announced they were also doe the -- demoting rugry. but by october, a group of alumni and supporters called save cal sports came together to launch a funding campaign. according to the website they've raised about $16 million toward the goal. but a spokesperson says they need $25 million in commitments. >> and along with that, they need to present a feasible, viable plan to raise additional funds that would create an endowment to support these team's operating costs. >> i gotta keep playing baseball. so i might have to transfer out. >> reporter: the uncertainty of

missing for 18 years. the suspect in a gruesome crime is due in court to face murder and arson charges. the 29-year-old is accused of strangling the mother of his baby and then torching her car in the hate neighborhood one week ago -- in the hyde neighborhood one week ago. san jose prosecutors are seeking a third strike against the man accused of pointing a laser beam at a helicopter pilot. they say the 57-year-old man flashed the laser beam at the helicopter 25 times in february of last year. police say during his questioning, the suspect said he didn't care if the helicopter crashes or if people died. he has six prior convictions. the state court of appeals has dismissed all of them but one because of mental illness. if convicted on this charge, he

good morning, fred. >> reporter: hi, good morning, tori. politically, it really is in turmoil in egypt here. we saw tens of thousands of people calming into central cairo to protest against president mubarak. but the people say they will stay on streets until he's gone. the military is bridging in more and more -- bringing in more and more tanks. they are setting um checkpoints. they are sort of trying to control the situation which is working in downtown cairo. but it's not working in outlying areas where police have -- where police officers have fled their stations and those stations have been turned and -- burned and looted. right now, there a really not much of a law enforcement presence. what's going on, people aralling themselves with whatever they can find and

forming sort of local militias against what they say are armed criminal gangs. right now, it's still a very volatile situation in egypt. >> can you talk about the situation in the airport? i imagine people are trying to leave but it's very chaotic there. >> reporter: they chaotic. i tried to make it to the airport yesterday actually and you couldn't even get into the perimeter because there was such a backlog of traffic and people trying to get through checkpoints. there's two embassy chart he -- embassy charter flights. that was earlier. right now you cannot get out. i spoke to one gentleman

earlier today who said he brought his family to the airport trying to get his fall on any flight they could -- get him on a flight they could. they couldn't. they had to come back here to central cairo. if you are an american here -- it's advisable to contact the embassy. some american tourists are gonna stay here because at this point in time they feel the situation hadn't deteriorated to a point where they need to leave. however, it is advisable for people to watch out where they are going. >> certainly very volatile situation. lightning -- okay. thank you. we're getting reports that there was another attempt to lewd some of the archaeological treasures. the egyptian military is blocking access to but of the

one man was arrested. >> it was determined by the investigators that the suspect in this case is in custody and that he is a merchant in the area. >> now, the dispute between the two, can you give us the relationship of the employees and the person who was arrested and hue that man -- and how that man was arrested. >> the relationship of the victims in the store, were both employees of the store. the suspect was a merchant from -- from some other establishment. >> we don't know whether or not the store was open when this happened. >> we don't know when the store was open. it's not some random act. it is an isolated incident.
