so far the demonstration has been peaceful. protesters have set up their own checkpoints to keep out weapons and the military has promised not to fire on demonstrators. this morning we're hearing from an american student in cairo. >> i've been hit with tear gas, been thrown around a little bit. but they are telling us to stay away, not to go down certain streets. >> she says american university offered to send her home but she wanted to stay on the frontlines. coming up in 15 minutes we'll have more on the government's response to the demonstration. u.s. intelligence officials have reportedly warned executives at banks they may be targeted by al qaeda. a new york television station the fbi has briefed large

institutional banks. one government official said there was no independentcation of a -- no indication of a specific target. a major winter storm is intensifying in the midwest and the national weather service is warning people to stay inside. been the -- within the past 30 minutes, dallas/fort worth airport reopened this morning. it was closed. the storm is bricking freezing rain and snow and -- bringing freezing rain and snow and creating blizzard-like conditions. there is a picture there, if we can keep it, it looks like pretty icy roads. roughly 2,000 flights are cancelled across the country. the storm is expected to stretch from the rockies to young and several flights out

your fingers do the walking. in fact, he has a plan to get rid of this big, yellow book, unless you want it. we're gonna speak with david chu about this. some are opposed to chu's proposal? what is that proposal? well, the yellow pages is popping up on your smartknown and your computer. today, chu is proposing legislation which would allow the legislation to contact you to determine whether or not you want a directly. if you don't and it's delivery, unsolicited delivery could result in fines up to $500. but the yellow pages generate $13 million in ad revenue.

here to -- they are reminding people living here to use common sense. they say it's a bad idea to leave anything of value in your car. now, the rash of burglaries started up about six months ago. in that time there's been about 175 reported da -- reported burglaries. they reported that 41 cars have been stolen. most of those car burglaries -- burglaries happened overnight. now, we are waiting to speak with a sergeant from the morgan hill police department. that interview should hopefully take place any minute now. we heard he would be in at around 7:00. one of the questions we'll ask if there is a pattern to these burglaries. we're live in morgan hill, christen kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. the san jose city council is scheduled to meet behind

that's been lighter than unusual. today it looks like it's backed up for maybe a five-minute delay. no problem on the bridge. this morning we had the crash at north livermore avenue. that's off to the side but look at all of that traffic on 580. the crash has been removed from the lanes. finally we're getting slowing at 580 and some slow traffic on 680 heading down from pleasanton to from -- from from mont. here's steve. cold and foggy. today's forecast does take into account that the fog will burn off. 46 to 58 by noon. most of that fog should be gone. sunny and mild. sometimes that fog can hold on a while.

of the service. lalanne died at the age of 96. he was a bay area native who opened his gym in 1936. a mother in the north bay says she suffered her son's death all over again when she went to put flowers on his grave and instead found cemetery workers moving his coffin. here's a picture. this is martina alvarez and another son at the shilo cemetery. that's where her son was buried back on december 2nd. alvarez said the cemetery told her they mistakenly buried her son in the wrong plot. the cemetery says they have the legal right to move that coffin. a disturbing act of bullying caught on cell phone.

six people in san francisco have been banned from high school sports games after a brawl broke out in the stands at a basketball game last month. the fight happened during a game between thurgood marshall and lincoln high. as many as 30 people were involved. it's not clear what started the fight. two of the people suspended are varsity basketball players. the others were spectators. they are banned from high school sporting events for the next two and a half years. in pennsylvania this

morning, six teenagers face numerous charges after attacking a 13-year-old boy. it was all recorded on the cell phone by one alleged attackers. police say the victim was punched and dragged around by his feet. it happened early last month, just outside of philadelphia. at one point the treen was -- between was stuck in the tree. one of former president bush's twin daughters is showing her support for gay marriage in a new 20-second veto. >> i'm barbara bush. >> she's the latest in a line of younger republicans in favor of marriage equality. senator john mccain's daughter, megan, and dick cheney's daughter, mary, are all outspoken supporters for marriage equality. okay.

we want to check in with sal. he's gonna tell us about a new crash in oakland. i just mentioned it a few minutes ago. northbound 880, it's a flipped over motorcycle in the two left lanes. in fact if you look at the left side of the screen you can see that one emergency vehicle has arrived. oakland fire was dispatched with paramedics. this was northbound 880 at fifth. two left lanes blocked. a van is also involved and several people have stopped to help out. one of our producers has said the accident is relatively new. it just happened a few mets ago. let's take a look at 580. it's a mess. we had a couple of earlier crashes on the altamont pass. and you can see is busy in

being discussed. >> reporter: the fastrack lanes have not stop. still, some san mateo county transportation officials say they want to do something about congestion on this bridge and they think a new pricing plan may help. it's called congestion toll pricing. in july, drivers on the bay bridge started to pay 6 $to drive across -- $6 $to drive across -- $6 to drive across the bridge. yesterday san mateo county authorities revealed a new countywide transportation plan, the first in ten years. in that plan, congestion toll pricing is recommended for the dumbarton and san mateo bridge. one driver we spoke to said he's not excited about the idea because not everyone has the flexibility to change their work schedule. >> i have to be at work.

a prank call came from inside the elementary school. newschopper2 was over the scene as the drama unfolded over the school yesterday. police received a phone call that a man with a rifle was on the campus. more than 200 students were immediately evacuated. you can see s.w.a.t. officers going inside. dozens of police officers moved in along with an armored vehicle and a robot. police searched the school grounds for several hours before determining that that call was a hoax. oakland epolice chief is glad to -- oakland's police chief is glad about mayor jean quan bringing back ten of the eight officers laid back. she says the city is working to upgrade police cars an the
