good morning, thank you for waking up with us it's wednesday february 2nd i'm partly pam cooke. let's check in with steve. >> hi pam. there is no fog. >> we will end up with 60 near 70 degrees. traffic is stopped on 880 northbound. they are getting rid of road work on northbound 880. there was also a report of debris up the road. but traffic is temporarily stopped here. looks like they are just about to let it go through as they get that -- as they pick up that road work. moving along taking a look at highway 24 that traffic is moving well.

topping our news. news concerns about the pg&e pipelines. kraig debro joins us from south san francisco with new information that came from inspections after that huge pipeline explosion in san bruno. good morning, krai. >> reporter: good morning, pam. pg&e found two dozen gas leaks that they have already prepared on that same tran mission line. three here in south san francisco. they were found near highway 101 and grand avenue which is a heavily populated area. both 101 and grand avenue are. the cause of the september 9th explosion that killed eight endestroyed 30 homes. ptcuc ordered pg&e to exexpect 6500 miles of pipeline following the explosion.

pg&e has found and repaired a total of 59 pipeline gas leaks. 21 of those were found in hazardous to population areas or buildings. utilities has a big job to finish. federal investigators said pg&e falsely believed the san bruno tran mission line was a seamless pipe. it was not. raising the possibility that the amount of gas pressure in the pipe might have been higher than a seamed pipe could have handled. they have always known the same pipe goes to the town. the same pipe that exploded in san bruno. we are trying to get reaction to the discovery that leaks were discovered there. reporting in south san francisco kraig debro. >> this morning the chp is trying to determine what lead up to a fatal overnight crash in oakland. it happened late last night on eastbound 580. investigators say the driver of

a volvo sedan was moving at top speeds when he raced off the freeway and on to the freeway off ramp. he veered off the roadway, smashed into a tree and tided. the coroner has identified the victim as 57-year-old ray harrington of oakland. delta is taking close watch of the water. they believe the suspect -- but as a formality they issued an arrest warrant after yesterday's discovery. that sad discovery came in at 7:30 in the morning when a canal worker spotted a childs body. the area is 31 miles south of patterson where they called rodriguez car to the water. >> our teams have worked tirelessly to bring little juliani home alive. as we have previously shared with you, everything lead us to

that canal and we knew that it would be a tragic result. >> investigators believe rodriguez drove his car into the canal on january 18th shortly after kidnapping juliani. hundreds of people gathered in patterson to remember the life of four-year-old juliani cardenas. the crowd sang and prayed for the family last night on the steps of city hall. despite learning the grim news just hours earlier, juliani's mother was there his grandmother spoke to a crowd and thanked everyone for their support. >> my grandson he is looking at all of you wherever he is. >> there are also prayers for tabitha cardenas and her unborn baby. she is due to give birth next month. in egypt today thousands of

demonstrators showing support for president move bar rack -- mubarak are crashing with protestors on the streets of cairo. within the last half hour reports came in there have been injuries after the two sides began hitting each other with sticks. also today in a television announcement an egyptian military spokesman asked protestors to go home and return to normal life in egypt. the protestors have been an inspiration. >> the people of egypt particularly the young people of egypt i want to be clear. we hear your voices. i have an unyielding belief that you will determine your own destiny. >> in a televised statement yesterday president mubarak announced he would not seek reelection in september but that did not appease the antigovernment protestors that assist they want him to step

down now. in yemen that countries long-time president announced he would not seek another term in office or hand over power to his son. that is an apparent reaction to protests in yemen. president of yemen has been in power for nearly 32 years his current term in office expires in 2013. well more flight delays are expected in the bay area today as that huge storm is due to deliver more snow to the eastern part of the country. the blizzard caused 40 flight cancellations at sfo yesterday. across the country 6700 flights were grounded. now that storm has been bringing winds up to 50 miles an hour to the midwest. in chicago the gusts were strong enough to tear pieces off the roof of wrigley field. roads have been shut down. the blizzard closed schools for the first time in the city in 12 years. time now 4:37.

trust, trust we need to be functional as a police department. >> a huge obstacle facing the police department is a $30 million short fall. he is hopeful that number can be reduced. the oakland city council could have a new pot farm policy in a few weeks. that hot topic dominated last nights city council meeting and could have a big impact on the cannabis industry for the entire street. oakland city serious legal questions have them considering a scaled back version. council woman leslie brooks is considering limiting the size of pot farms. >> hopefully it will be within the guidelines and won't put the city or cultivators at risk. >> the city's public safety committee will review it before

under the current system there are only 4 billion. over the last 20 years they have all been used. >> this week the last chunk of ip addresses was allocated to the registries that assigns them to internet service providers. >> there is a new solution. there is an ip version six. new addresses will be created but internet service providers will have to make adjustments to make sure that transition is smooth. in june google, facebook, and yahoo will test ip version six. a mixup over an important exam. what this will mean for college dreams. why drivers in san francisco may not fully enjoy the benefits of broken meters anymore.

welcome back to the morning news. in australia, tens of thousands of people are fleeing parts of queensland ahead of a cyclone that is moving into the area. there are dire warnings of a potential devastation as the cyclone is expected to be life threatening. winds up to 100 miles an hour are expected. those who cannot escape the store in time are encouraged to go to evacuation centers or take shelter in their bathrooms at home. a volcanic eruption in japan is interrupting nights. so far only four people have been injured though by the flying glass. the volcano is part of a remote mountain range of a southern island. this is the first major

eruption in 50 year. oakland high school students are worried they will miss important college deadlines all because of a mistake beyond their control. the act college exams for lost or damaged after they were sent to iowa to be scored. one of the people that took the test in december felt she had done well on that test. >> i thought that the act would really pump me up and help me with the chances to get into a really good university. >> tests do get lost on rare occasions. the company also says colleges have been understanding and flexible in these circumstances. in just a few hours supreme courts justice sonya sod mayor will be in the bay area. she will be on a panel hearing the final round of arguments by law school students participating in the competition. ninth u.s. skirt court of

appeals judge william flipper will also be on that panel. the 17th ship from the moth ball fleet is set to be toed in a few hours. loose paint paint will be scraped from the ship before it's recycled. decisions have been reached in three parking related issues in san francisco. first effecting the most drivers transit officials set a two-hour maximum time it will for parking. next they unanimously approved a $55 penalty for muni workers that park at transit lots. those penalties are expected to generate more than $1 million a year. a research for a pilot program to give nannies residential parking permits was also approved. let's go back over to sal. how is the commute?

>> pam, it's actually pretty good right now. we are starting off nice commute. i don't think that was correct. we are starting off well. that is bert. westbound 24 traffic looks pretty good getting up to the willow pass grade. no major problems. as a matter of fact, traffic continues to look good all the way through oakland. also this morning commute is moving along well on westbound bay bridge. toll plaza coming into san francisco. this mornings commute on 880 oakland the road work has been cleared and traffic is clear. let's go to steve. all right, sal, thank you. the fog is gone. the wind picked up yesterday afternoon. really cranked up last night. mount diablo is the strongest gust i could find. 36-50 on the lows. clear and breezy this morning. by noon it will be sunny and breezy. the wind should tail down a little bit. 60 to 70 on the temps. this is a little cooler air mass coming in even though we

get rid of the fog. we are in the 40s and 50s. today no fog. clear skies. gusts of 25 to 55 miles an hour especially in the hill. not so bad at the surface. there is still gusts 25 to 30. 40s and 50s it's already 52 in san francisco. 52 santa rosa. at this time there were 34. this is a big difference. in the satellite there is nothing coming toward us. everyone will go up and over. high pressure for awhile. maybe through the 15th of february. unless there is something in the old pipeline. it's a very stable pattern. sunny and breezy. the higher gusts are in the higher elevations. cool to mild morning lows. i think afternoon highs i'm going higher than the forecasted projections. they are already sitting in the 50s. i'm going mild to low 60s. sunshine sunny side up and after today and tomorrow it will be warm with 70s, pam. >> that sounds great.

thank you. a laboratory and a sheep are safe inside this morning. the rescue effort took place yesterday afternoon on a cliff that lies between nevada avenue and canal boulevard. firefighters say the dog named sparkle chased the sheep up the cliff. at one point the dogs owner tried to climb up the cliff to coax the dog down. it took firefighters 3.5 hours to bring sparkle and peter pan to safety. the latest wikileaks has disturbing details to pull a nuclear 9/11. we will also continue to follow this huge storm that is raging across the country. the impact it's having on our airports this morning. and heartbreak in patterson this morning for the loss of
