minister of canada, president obama hinted at the resignation of egyptian president hosni mubarak. >> going back to the old ways is not going to work. >> reporter: again today, tens of thousands of anti government demonstrators flooded tyrere square callings for the ousting of president mubarak. his supporters are also there making their word heard. president mubarka has already said he will not run for reelection in the fall. the big question is who will take over when he leaves. an islamic opposition group stemmed in egypt could turn egypt into another iran if they took control. ubarka said mubarak should step down immediately. >> it's a question of trust, and the trust is gone.

that large crowd turned on the outnumbered officers. >> kitty's, that's the name of the bar. it appears to be a rather tame place. but at 1:25 this morning it was anything but. >> it was a very, very large bar fight. >> reporter: emeryville police says an officer was driving by kitty's when a security guard waived him down where 180 people fists and bottles flying. >> when they went into the bar they found almost everyone in the bar seemed to be involved in the fight. >> reporter: the fight moved outside. five emeryville officers tried to stop the beating of a man on the ground. >> as they tried to rescue that individual, the crowd turned on the officers. >> an officer was punched in the face. another assaulted. >> i wasn't sure so i just came down here to make sure he was okay. >> no one was taken to the

hospital. the melee lasted 10 minutes and the chaos, only two people were arrested. >> we have had other fights at the bar but this was by far one of the worse that i've heard of. >> reporter: we tried to contact the bar owners, we were not successful. emeryville police were hoping to get help from the public such as cell phone video which will help identify the person who assaulted their officer. his injuries were minor. a man accused of shooting a school principal pleaded not guilty to murder charges today. the custodian john lubers had an argument with the principal before fatally shooting him in his office. students came home today for the first time since the shooting. counselors were in every classroom to help students and faculty. the national unemployment rate did fall slightly. employers added 36,000 new jobs

last month far fewer than economists had expected. but despite that low number, the national unemployment rate unexpectedly dropped to 9% from 9.4%. that is the lowest since april of 2009. economists say however that the drop in jobless numbers may be linked to people who had been looking for work and have now simply given up. one bay area employer who plans to add jobs has been flooded with applications. google said last week it plans to hire 6,000 workers, since then # 5,000 people have submitted their resumes. a company executive wrote on a blog that google needs quote smart, creative people to tackle tough challenge, everything from build ago new web base operating system to developing a self-driving car. in a one on one interview, the nation's labor secretary said there's no plan to extend unemployment insurance for those who have been out of work for more than 99 weeks.

four homes. it's placing nerves on edge. sandra bulton has lived in this home for year, just before 4:00 a.m. today, someone set fire to a plastic screen on her porch. it's the latest of four suspicious fires in just 24 hours in this san francisco neighborhood. >> people are just really concerned and fearful that this is just -- seems very random and happening in the middle of night. >> reporter: two victorians have been seriously damaged. no one has been injured but at least 10 people are homeless and nerved are frayed. >> so many fires around here. it just got to the outdoor. >> we have a couple of smoke detectors that need new batteries and i think we might buy a fire extinguisher. >> reporter: the castros merchants association says its members are now on high alert.

due to a mechanical malfunction. a woman from auburn drowned this morning while trying to rescue her dog in the surf. 51-year-old cynthia walker went into the surf this morning. 10-foot waves quickly pushed her into the water. she ended up dying at the scene. her dog unfortunately also drowned. well the weather you might think of in central texas, but 5-inches of snow fell in dallas the last few nights. the weather is creating treacherous driving conditions and putting some flights in jeopardy. one person has been seriously injured and five others have been hurt by falling ice.

after more than 70 years in business, larry blake restaurant and bar has shut its doors. blakes as it was known was once a big hang out for cal students and the larger berkeley community. there is no official word yet on what caused the owner to close for good. but a property management firm says blakes had not been paying its bills and defaulted on its lease. identical twin cities today fulfilled a promise they made

deployment, they will be american citizens. from 11.7% in december and 10% the month before, the group iraq and afghanistan veterans of america says there are not enough transition programs to help the increasing number of vets to get jobs. >> they should be a shock to everyone. and should shock them into action. 300,000 veterans that served in iraq and afghanistan are unemployed right now. veterans groups are calling for tax breaks for businesses that hire vets and for improvenned job training programs. ronald reagan's son ron says sarah palin has nothing in common with his father. unlike his father, the younger reagan is known for his left of center politics. he made those comments after organizers booked palin to speak tonight at a banquet at the reagan ranch.

taking on one of the biggest credit cards in america. while he may have a case, experts say it's likely he has a very tough battle ahead. mike mibach has tonight's special report. >> reporter: this is michael carnacki on the road and on a crusade. >> i'm a boot maker that's 150 in the united states left. >> reporter: the thing about michael carnacki he's probably one of the busiest individuals here because he's in a big time fight against one of the biggest banks in america. >> these are all civil case, california. >> reporter: his case, usery. >> also termed illegal interest. >> reporter: he was looking to expand his business into italy when this 2008 the u.s. economy took a hit. so too did his sales. he was tens of thousands of dollars deep in credit card debt. his minimum payments doubled.

news story concerning the discovery of a boy's body we told you about in the canal. dna now confirm that the body is indeed that of juliani cardenas. the 4-year-old was kidnapped from his grandmother's arms. crews pulled the vehicle the boy was last seen in from the mendota canal. the vehicle was empty. the body was found just this tuesday. the dna confirmation shows that the boy's body was indeed juliani cardenas. the alleged kidnapper has not been found. workers at a guacamole plant are up to their elbows in avocados as they gear up for their biggest night of the year. that's the sound of bay area city's produce employees mashing up 4,000 pounds of avocados for this week end. the company plans to make
