we got this video shortly after the child's mother took hick to oakland children's hospital. police will return to the club to question staff members and review surveillance tape. kraig debro joins us with more. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: want to speak with the president of the boys and girls club. mr. cal stanley is the person we spoke to. he said for the first time he spoke to us. he did speak to his managers at the boys and girls club. he said there was no commotion and no one had any idea what happened. cal stanley said he has been associated with the boys and girls club since 1970. he, in fact, attended that club and nothing like this ever happened. we'll show you some of the video

oo. cal short for calves ter stanley. i'm the president of the boys and girls club of oakland. our hearts go out to the young person at the center of this and to his family. of course the club has been around for 70 years and providing for the moral, mental and physical well-being of all of our kids. so the young person who is at the center of this and the 2100 others that frequent all three of our clubs, usually, it's a positive place for kids. >> reporter: that was cal stanley, the president of the boys and girls club of oakland. we also learned from police they first got the report at 7:00 last night. again, the boy did not tell anybody at the club. he went home, told his mother.

his mother took him from oakland. we learned within the past 20 minutes or so, they're calling this a sexual assault. technically, the definition, it's not possible in terms of legalese to rape a boy so they're calling it a sexual assault. we're not sure of many details beyond that. police will be back at the club to talk to managers. we'll hear more from that interview. reporting live, kraig debro, channel 2 news. >> we have an update about a story we've been telling you about in san francisco. geary street closed down. the fatal accident happened just after 2:00 this morning. police want to know if alcohol or drugs were involved in this horrible crash. now some muni buses are being rerouted. sal will give us the latest

update on how the traffic is being affected. sheriff's deputies in richmond are searching for the gunman who opened fire on a passing transit bus. five passengers were onboard this bus when the bullets crashed through the windows. at least one passenger was hit in the face with shattered glass. we still don't know if someone on the bus was targeted or if this was a random shooting. jade hernandez will bring us a live report. minutes ago verizon and apple stores opened their doors for customers, looking to get their hands on iphone 4. a lot of people have been waiting a long time for this. >> reporter: some of these

pennsylvania. a leaking gas line is being blamed for a deadly explosion that leveled one home and set fire to others. it happened at 10:45 last night. one person has died. at least five people are still missing. today rescue crews are searching the rubble for more victims. a new investigation into pg&e safety practices shows the utility did not follow its own safety guidelines. regulators have focused on them since the fire in san bruno. it found out that pg&e put off inspections for more than two years. records showed two years ago the facility did not have proper procedures in place. santa rosa schools are about to make their first round of cuts. the school board voted to cut

$1.4 million out of the budget. that means ninth grade class sizes will get bigger and a counseling program will be eliminated. a group of parents from westwood elementary school in concord will be holding an emergency meeting tonight. they're angry after finding out that the mt. diablo school district is looking into closing westwood or silverwood. earlier this week they voted to close holbrook and glenbrook. the meeting will be held in the calf tear tonight at 7:00 p.m. he's california's highest made transit boss. the however -- now how much he's making. it's slow in the valley if you're driving in from san jose or morgan hill. the come mouth has become slow.

the san francisco chronicle is reporting that a witness saw steve jobs at the headquarters. it was visiting on january 21st when he saw jobs walk out of the building. this is the first reported sighting since early january when jobs said he was taking a medical leave. people on both sides of a water issue will pack a meeting. they will argue the pros and cons of jet skis at mavericks. many sur fers argue jet skis save lives and point to many rescues, including one last month. critics say jet skis are noisy. they pollute the water and scare off wildlife. the u.s. postal service lost

shooting. the shooting was targeted. you can see the damage. it happened near the intersection of third and grove. the bus driver had stopped at the bus stop where eight mean wearing hoodies approached the bus. one man got on and off quickly president the group outside moved to the back of the bus and the driver heard gunshots. there were eight passengers on the bus. one man was hurt by flying glass. no one else was seriously injured. the bus rolled to 7th and pennsylvania where it stopped it. happened about 9:30. it happened in west contra costa near richmond. let's lessen to the spokesman describe the condition. >> about eight people walked up to the bus from the outside. one of the eight got on the bus, looked toward the back of the bus and got off. then the eight people who were off the bus walked towards the rear of the bus and some shots

were fired. >> reporter: no arrests have been made. we've called a spokesman for contra costa county. as soon as we hear from him we'll let you know. we are at the transit yard. we're told the bus that was damaged is out of service this morning. jade hernandez, reporting. a napa county jail inmate is in critical condition right now after setting fire to his clothing in his cell. correction officials say the man wrapped himself in toilet paper last night and used a spark from a tv cord to set off the fire. we don't know the man's name but we do know he used to be a patient mat napa state hospital. he was sent to the jail in september on suspicious of -- suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. oakland firefighters say a man whose burned body was found

at a homeless encampment may have been asleep. someone spotted smoke and flames at the off-ramp. when authorityings got -- authorities got there they found a badly burned body. there was a dog tied to a leash. that dog was not hurt. police say the fire does not seem to be suspicious. we don't have any word yet on who that man was. a concord woman may face criminal charges for allegedly hiding a teenage runaway. stephanie cut ran away in november. she contacted her family a couple weeks ago to see say -- to say she was safe. investigators learned she was hiding at the home of eva nickels, the mother of the girl's boyfriend. investigators spent ours looking for -- hours looking for the

teen. the tracy teen who was shackled and tortured has filed a claim against secretary -- sacramento's child protection services. video recorded in 2008 at a tracy gym captured the moment when the teen escaped after nearly a year in captivity. the four people convicted in the case are all serving prison sentences. in just about two hours from right now a san francisco man who's accused of beating a catholic priest will be back in court to find out what charges he will be facing. yesterday the judge ruled that the priest, father jerrold lindner will not have to testify. 43-year-old william lynch claims that the priest sexual assaulted he and his brother when they were young boys f convicted, william lynch could face up to

taking a look at the beg board -- big board. 383,000 people applied for unemployment benefits last week, the lowest level in nearly three years. however, there were some dismay pointing earnings coming out. cisco, that stock is down 11% in early trading with smaller than expected earnings and pepsi cut its earning forecast. the dow is currently down 32 at

12,207. new numbers released today show a huge uptick in foreclosures in the bay area. pam cook joins us in the newsroom to explain the reason behind the increase and how homeowners can find some help. good morning. >> this morning figures are staggering. more than 15,000 homes were seized by banks in california last month. here in the bay area. 2600 people received default notices in january. according to realty track. that's almost a 40% track from this time last year. analysts say the reason for the increase may be because banks are pushing through delinquent properties that have been on hold either because of a loan modification or the banks were too overwhelmed with the problem loans, but there is help. today in sacramento details will be unveiled about a new program to help people on the verge of

foreclosure. among the main points of the $2 billion keep your home california program, up to six months of monthly help to cover mortgage payments and costs, help for people trying to get caught up on delinquent payments. out of the big banks only allied financial has signed on to that mart of the plan the california housing financing is still waiting to hear from wells fargo, b of a and jpmorgan chase. it comes from federal funds reserved in 2008. california representatives say the program could help 95,000 homeowners keep their home. however, the biggest driving factor for foreclosures is still the economic conditions, particularly, the number of people. who are out of work. reporting live in the newsroom,

i'm pam cook. let's go back to dave. there's a new poll out. it's from san jose. they asked residents how they would deal with the budget deficit. 45% say cutting the pay of city workerses is their top choice. when they were told the city would still have a budget deficit, 40% say they favor cutting city services compared to 34% who prefer raising taxes. several east bay mayors got together to oppose one of governor brown's opposes. the mayors of oakland, concord, union city are calling on local lawmakers to vote against scrapping the state's redevelopment agencies. the mayor said the redevelopment money helps revitalize blighted areas. san francisco police are holding a public meeting tonight to get inpit for the selection of the city's next chief. the examiner reports that 20 to

25 people have applied for the job. they include a mix of internal and external candidates. mayor ed lee is expected to avoint fer point -- appoint the next police chief. san francisco police, now plan to use a more humane approach when dealing with the mentally ill. it's a story we first told you about yesterday. police approved the plan last flight calling for 40 hours of specialized crisis training for about a quarter of the officers. the goal is to cut down on the use of force. it comes in the wake of three shootings by police over the past year. santa clara-based mcafee is reporting computer hackers from china have conducted a cyber spying campaign on western oil companies for years. those attacks dubbed night dragon are targeting five multinational oil companies but didn't name them because some of them are clients.

according to mcafeerks the hackers took gigabytes of highly sensitive information. the company has briefed the fbi, which is investigating. president obama is heading to michigan right now. he's promoting a plan for wireless internet access all over the country. the president's wireless initiative would expand high speed wireless to 90% of the population over the next five years. it involves doubling the space for wireless traffic. that would raise billions of dollars, but the plan would also cost billions of dollars and republicans in congress may not be willing to spend that money. the "american idol" auditions are over but not before the show made its final stop right here in the bay area. >> ♪ don't know why there's no

an 80-year-old international jewel thief is headed back to prison. a judge sentenced doris pane five years for steeling a diamond ring from macies. she also stole from neiman marcus. show has admitted to stealing jewelry from around the world. there's a new medical report that just came out this morning. strokes are happening more and more among the middle aged and even young people. the report was announced at the

american stroke conference. it shows a sharp increase of 51% among men between the ages of 15 and 34. for women in that age group strokes went up 17%. for men between the ages of 35 and 44, the increase was 47%. for women it was 336% -- 36%. doctors blame obesity as well as high blood pressure and clogged arteries. an apparent contributor to strokes, diet sodas. it led to a 61% increase in streek or heart attacks. researchers have not been able to definitively link any particular ingredient in the diet drink to the study. >> a lot of times you feel like you're being healthier by drinking it. we want to check in with sal.
