verse. the press release says that verse was accused of sexually harassing another person during a therapy session. verse was the center of controversy several years ago when the department of corrections had difficult locating him because of objections from neighbors. tonight homicide investigators are reaching out to the public's help as they investigate the fatal stabbing of a woman in san jose. police were called out where they found 27-year-old melanie ashley dunn stabbed to death. she was taken to the hospital but unfortunately she died at the hospital. the victim and the suspect knew each other. >> the investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim had a dating relationship. the first call that we got was a 911 call, it was an open

line, a verbal argument could be heard in the background. >> reporter: investigators said dunn and shackelburg had been dating. a memorial service is set to get under way in patterson for 4-year-old juliani car he cardenas. the service is open to the public. authorities say juliani's mother's ex-boyfriend killed the boy after kidnapping him. and the man accused of killing shaundra leavy was convicted. guandique was sentenced to 60 years many prison.

derailment. the train has been moved from the tracks. once they inspect the track, they will allow trains to use it again. a toyota camry collided with a train. nummi has not released any details on what led to the crash. but it appears one person was under the car. witnesses say he was conscious and talking on the phone. the capital corridor train broke a record last month. the train transported 130,000 passengers in january. that is an 11% increase compared to a year ago. amtrak says it's ridership has been steadily increasing nationwide probably due to rising gas prices and better on time performance. they say it demonstrates a need for a national intercity passenger rail system. it's a secret recording on audio tape that could be crucial in the upcoming trial

of barry bonds. and today bonds defense team argued before a judge that tape should not be admitted as evidence. rita williams is at that hearing, she is hear now to explain what happened. >> gasia, barry bonds was not in court today but his attorneys were. the day after prosecutors in this new indictment cut the number of charges against him in half. >> there used to be 11 unfounded counts and now there are five unfounded counts. >> reporter: that's the way bonds' attorney described the charges bonds still faces. they stem from his testimony behind a grand jury way back in 2003 when he testified he never knowingly used performance enhancing drugs. it's expected that bonds' friends and personal training will refuse to testify again and will be sent back to jail again until the trial is over.

as well as other clues. ktvu's robert handa is live in san jose tonight with what he's learned about the investigation and also how the victim is doing, robert. >> reporter: frank we're at regional medical center in san jose where the young woman's family tells us the hit and run victim underwent hours of treatment and surgery this afternoon. family members tell us she returned to intensive care after a few hours. this after police released a sketch of the possible suspect and a description of the vehicle. maurine nelson lives at the intersection where erica luna was hit and dragged 2,000 feet last sunday morning. shortly after police released this sketch, from a description given by luna's boyfriend we sent it around the fontane neighborhood. >> it's great that they have a sketch so people can keep an

some newly released figures shows solano county is bucking the home friends. according to realty track, solano foreclosures dropped by 15% in january compared to the year before. the rest of the bay area didn't fair as well. first stage foreclosure noticed spiked 20%. statewide, notices remained relatively flat. timothy geithner today called for the private-sector to take a bigger role in finance. banks need to hold more capital against risks and people must have more equity in their homes. he also said the government must move away from financing and move toward more oversight. >> there's a very important

role for the government not just in providing access to housing but in getting incentives better, oversight better. >> geithner called for mortgage reform and says the government needs to wind down freddie mac and fannie mae. general motors paid some of its workers a bonus today. they will get performance bonuses of as much as 15% of their pay. chrysler says they will also give bonuses to their white collar staff. both companies took government bail outs during the recession. almost 2 million baby monitors are being recalled after they were linked to the deaths of two infants. the summer infant monitors can present a strangulation hazard

weather system we'll have an opportunity to come in, drop some rain, drop some snow then keep going. there'll be one behind that and one behind that. next week is your wet week. plan accordingly. some cool air gets in here as well. that means we'll see snow in area peaks. tuesday showers, but cooler. and then we get into wednesday we're looking at snow on some bay area peaks and certainly winter storm warnings in the mountains. it's still way out. think about the weekend because that's what's coming. just as you know, things are still on track for a pretty unsettled wet week next week. the computer model bears this out. you see the flow on saturday. watch what happened saturday into sunday. this is coastal fog being pushed ahead of that frontal system out there. the computer model sees that and says, yeah, the high clouds will start to increase. rain up to the north. then boom there you go. there's your monday afternoon commute. that's the first of what will be a wet series of weather systems coming our way. sunday looks good too by the

san jose today bringing mobile mammogram services to the community. the medical professionals there say it was a matter of finding a need then filling it. >> we have women that are 40 years and older that can't afford to get a mammogram done any where. >> reporter: outside the gardener health center today, women filled out forms and climbed up the steps into a specially equipped truck. this new mobile mammogram unit provides breast cancer screenings for those who other wise wouldn't have access to one. >> they don't have insurance, they don't have money to get it done. what happens in that situation is they end up getting breast cancer that goes undetected. >> this mobile mammogram unit is a service of st. joseph's medical center. and more help is on the way, the fda today approved the first mammagraphy device that

an officer involved shooting in vallejo may have claimed at least one life. and celebration in the streets. san francisco is joining in solidarity with egypt. good evening everyone i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. we start with developing news from vallejo. we brought you this story first about a half hour ago. an officer involved shooting in vallejo. here's a live picture from chopper 2. we are told it started with a police chase then ended with a shooting. it all is happening near the solano middle school. vallejo police are not commenting yet give us any
