francisco. san mateo county officials and peninsula construction officials hammered away at san francisco higher law. >> today i introduce legislation that would prevent san francisco local hire projects to be taken any where else. >> times are tough and construction workers are struggling all over the bay area, not just in san francisco. >> we need jobs in our community, we're the last ones hired and the first ones fired. >> reporter: san francisco labor activists showed up angry at what they see. >> they come from everywhere out of our communities. everywhere. name it, reno, vegas, arizona. >> reporter: san francisco's

local hire law only involves jobs using county funds. ordnance sponsor, avalos says the proposal will likely fail to get support. >> it'll probably halt lots of projects up and down california. >> reporter: supervisor avalos says -- san francisco's local hire law is set to take effect on march 5th. david stevenson, ktvu news. state senator lelang yee introduced a bill that aims at making pipelines safer. he wants pg & e and other gas companies to install automatically or remotely controlled shut off valves. the location will depend on whether a pipeline runs through a fault. >> i think that pg & e and

hair, a medium to dark complex and a mustache. erica luna was walking early sunday morning, they say that she was hit and dragged almost 2,000 feet. the equivalent of nearly seven football fields. her family tells us she underwent hours of surgery today and remains in critical condition. police are offering a reward for the capture of a man from oakland. sean sullivan is accused of shooting and kill ago -- killing a man and seriously injuring another. he is considered to be armed and dangerous. a memorial service will be getting under way within the next hour for juliani cardenas who was kidnapped and drowned last month near patterson. a large crowd is expected at

the patterson's football stadium. the body of the 4-year-old boy was recovered from the delta mendota canal february 4th. investigators believe the body of his alleged kidnapper is still in the canal. barry bonds was not in court today, bonds is due to go on trial on four counts of lying and one count of obstructing justice. the recording is between bonds former business manager and his trainer discussing alleged steroid use. cal announced women's lacrosse, women's gymnastics and men's rugby will remain. but baseball and men's gymnastics will be cut.

pledges for men's gymnastic and baseball fell short. >> everyone is just blown away from it. we've been hearing so many good things in the past couple of weeks like the team is going to come back. we were hoping everything would work out. >> reporter: some cal baseball alumni say they will continue trying to raise money and hopefully save that baseball program. it could be weeks before we find out if a runner's death at a marathon could have been prevented. city officials are looking into a emergency guidelines for races. rob roth is live where other race organizers are taking it very serious. >> reporter: hundreds of runners are expected at sacramento and grant for sunday's 5k and 10k run. organizers say they have been reviewing and reviewing safety procedures.

the race is a fundraiser. in san francisco, raise organizers are required to follow guidelines for health services. the number of health aid stations and ambulances are required. >> the policy is written broad ranging. and the idea is to work with the organizers that one they can afford and meet our needs. so there's a lot of discussions that go back and forth. >> reporter: peter mass collapsed during a run sponsored by kaiser. the city's investigating whether the race organizer rodico had the proper staffing in place to tend to the runner in time. bay area runners have started an online petition to boycott all events sponsored by rodico, more than 200 people have signed so far. we asked runners if they were concerned, including this doctor. >> we have to accept as human beings that systems will always

the number of bay area homeowners entering foreclosure

last month spiked by almost 40% compared to a year ago. according to real estate tracking firm realty track more than 2,600 bay area homeowners received a notice of foreclosure. and a nearly 38 jump -- 38% jump from a year ago. the current cal palace has a board. -- at a time when jobs are hard to come by, some of the bay area's biggest high tech companies spent today recruiting new employees. ktvu's janine de la vega takes us now to a unique job fair where war veterans are finding

new opportunities. >> reporter: the job fair just ended about an hour ago it was held here at yahoo which currently has 1,000 positions open. management says veterans may just have the skill sets they are looking for. jeremiah gasious is anxious sitting inside this job fair. gasious suffers from anxiety. >> construction is real slow. so i've got two daughters to feed and i'm looking to get into in addition. >> reporter: huffman got the opportunity to mingle with recruiters from high tech companies. they participated in the

wounded warrior career fair. >> many of our veterans are returning with disabilities, they can't go back to the jobs they used to have. while they were over there the economy went flat. now the jobs they had are gone. >> reporter: the companies hiring don't just have technical openings. there's openings in different departments. >> we've learned that the skills in the military. sometimes being driven, that those are things that naturally transfer into our company. >> reporter: the opportunity gave these vet veterans hope for the future. >> it's nice to know that some people out here that who care and would like to give us a chance. >> reporter: as part of today's conference, company executives learned more about post- traumatic postdisorder and how to support veterans who they end up employing. reporting live from sunny vale, janine de la vega. a new survey out today

finds californians generally feel positive about their health though there are disparities when the poll looked at income level. the poll was taken by the nonprofit public policy institute of california. it found that nearly half of californians surveyed said their health was excellent or very good. >> people who earn $80,000 or more in california, chances are they are very happy, they feel their health is very good to excellent. people who earn under $40,000 a year, different story. >> those less likely to consider themselves healthy were latinos and african americans. and those making less than $40,000 a year and those without health insurance. just a little warmer, for the weekend weather forecast we go to chief meteorologist bill martin. >> we've gone to the upper 60,

day in the weekend to do stuff. i would if i had time on my hands. i would go right out to the coast on your saturday. but as we get into monday, this is what shows up, clouds move in sunday, rain on monday afternoon. that commute is going to be wet. computer models in these early hours, saturday shows the flow going offshore going this way. then you see fog along the coast. sunday more clouds. cloudy on sunday. then here comes monday. and then behind monday there's a tuesday and wednesday and thursday and a friday. in terms of weather systems. they're going to keep coming. there'll be low snow levels. i wish there wasn't going to be a cold storm. higher latitude storms, which still means rain and snow it's just not copious amounts of rain. we could get five to 6-inches of rain next week which will be great and we can handle it. it's going to be wet, it will

introduced tonight at a museum event. it allows iphone users to view the museum's collections. the app is available for free until 9:00 tonight through the i tunes app store after that it will cost $1.99. and mark joins us with the update on pebble beach. it was beautiful out there. >> nothing like last years when the rain took over the main store. great weather, great golf. and this tour is trying to lure some of golf's biggest names. seems to be hard a hard time but bill murray tends to be there every day. parker and points both make the cuts. so he's not just out there for show he's playing some golf. they are four back the leader that would be this man, marino.

seven birdies. on to dubai we go. why is tiger woods not at pebble? because he's over there for 3 million bucks and he's playing some pretty good golf himself. a birdie at number four. he is 6-under par in that tournament. four back but this is your shot of the day. owen brown at the eighth hole after the tee. and i'm sure you will agree, you can't do it much better than that. the ace, he is however 10 back of the leader. and just one-under par even with that great round of golf. well during his playing days he was quite a character you would say. but dennis rodman must be doing something right. the bulk of his career spent back in detroit and he's going to have his number retired there. this is some footage of some of his antics when he was a player with several different teams. but they love him in detroit. he led them to a world championship and his number two-
