good morning and welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday, february 12th. >> weather is moving our way in the next 48 hours. let's check your forecast with ktvu meteorologist rosemary. good morning, rosemary. >> good morning. it will be another gorgeous day. i say make sure you get out today, change as early as tomorrow. although the rain is expected to hold off until monday. we are mainly clear out there for today, it's going to be sunny and nice and just as warm, even warmer than yesterday. our afternoon highs low 60s to low 70s in most areas. we'll pinpoint some areas for you this morning, talk about what we're dealing with, just a little fog this hour, and more on the rain coming up. it is now early evening in egypt and today is the first full day for the country without former president hosni mubarak in charge. we have been watching several new developments within the last couple hours.

overnight, the egyptian military promised to hand over power to an elected civilian administration. i want to give you a live look here at cairo's tahrir square, the site of many protests that led mubarak to hand over authority to the military. the large crowd scene seemed to be back again this morning. look at the flags waving. there are reports some protestors are divided about whether to stay or go. some demonstrators there say they're going to stay in the streets until they hear more from the country's military on how it plans to rule egypt. despite that uncertainty, the country erupted into cheers of joy yesterday. thousands of demonstrators chanted "egypt is free" after hearing the news of mubarak's resignation. he ruled egypt close to 30 years. the vice president delivered the news to the country. >> president hosni mubarak has decided to leave his position

as president of the republic. >> the resignation sparked hopes the sense every normalcy will return to the country overnight egyptian state television announced the nighttime curfew is now being relaxed. here in the bay area a celebration over the uprising in egypt will continue today. and amnesty international is planning a rationalee at 1:00 in afternoon at the united nations plaza in san francisco. rally organizers are calling on the public to come out and show solidarity with the egyptian people. today's rally comes after a celebration last night in san francisco. a large crowd gathered in the early evening to celebrate mubarak's relationships nation. the crowd chanted and also saying egypt's anthem. people we talked to said they're excited for the future. >> it's fascinating to me that

this young population can overthrow a whole government. it makes me feel so proud to be an egyptian. >> look at the -- not worry about [audio not understandable] i think everything will go very smooth and very happy. >> the crowd that turned out last night said this is a moment in history they hope will unify all egyptians. similar rallies are expected to continue across the country today. last night supporters of egypt in washington, d.c. also gathered to celebrate mubarak's resignation. they plan on being back out there today along with supporters in new york city, houston, and chicago. stay with ktvu and ktvu.com. we are keeping the website up to date with the latest information coming out of cairo. this morning, the search is underway for a man who police believe could provide some critical answers as the investigation into a fatal police shooting continues. police shot and killed a 45- year-old man last night after a police chase through the city.

good morning, ali. >> reporter: good morning. the man's name is reginald jackson, he was a passenger in a car involved in a police pursuit with vallejo police yesterday. this is where the pursuit ended. you can see some of the police markings on the pavement as part of the investigation yesterday. newschopper 2 a overhead when the pursuit ended around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. and it ended when vallejo police fatally shot the driver of the black car involved in the pursuit. police have not released the identity of the man but say he is a 45-year-old man and according to police when they asked the driver to stop and pull over for a vehicle code violation, he responded by pointing a revolver at officers. at that point, police opened fire on the driver, shooting and killing him residents at a community center heard it all happened. >> we heard a lot of gunshots. maybe 10, just constantly. it sounded like firecrackers but we know it wasn't.

>> police say the man they are still looking for this morning, again reginald jackson, was a passenger in the car involved in that pursuit. but got out of the vehicle before the confrontation with police and the shooting happened. police say they like to talk to jackson as part of their investigation into this officer involved shooting. not only are viejo police investigating but so is the district attorney's office. reporting live, ali rasmus, ktvu news. police investigating the killing of a man whose body was found inside a nob hill apartment. a welfare check led to the discovery last night. the body showed obvious signs of trauma and that he is believed to be about 65 years old. san francisco police are also looking for a man in southern california after his wife's body was found inside a motel room. thursday afternoon a worker found the body of 47-year-old colleen waterman in a room at

the ramada hotel on lombard street. police say they classified her death as suspicious. the couple's suv was found abandoned at devil slide on the san mateo coast, where law enforcement officials had been focusing their search for the woman's husband, 51-year-old billy waterman. >> we searched the entire cliff area about 50 yards north and south of where the vehicle was found yesterday, and about 150 feet down the cliff. there was no sign of anybody on the cliff. >> the couple was from bermuda dunes near palm springs. family members said they've not been seen since january but no one was worried until this week. sheriff's department does not know when the searched for waterman will be resume. anyone with information about this case is asked to call the sheriff's office or the san francisco police department. it's game over for some uc berkeley athletes as budget problems spilled over. yesterday the university announced enough money has been raised to save the men's rugby

team, women's gymnastics, and women's lacrosse. but, there was not enough money to save mention gymnastics and baseball teams. officials say $25 million was needed to save all five sports, but fund-raising efforts only brought in about half that amount. the university says cal baseball alums donated a smaller portion than other teams, result nag the program beg cut. newspaper to the team is preparing for what will be the last season for cal baseball. >> everyone just blown away. hearing so many good things like teams would come back and hoping everything was going to work out. >> when the news broke, some baseball alumni hit the phones, hoping to drum up support. fund-raising efforts will continue with the hope that the university will reverse its decision. good morning. giving you a live view this morning, san rafael, you can see the sun rising. some coolest temps during the

sunrise hour. and as we move through this morning we're quite chili in some sports. look at what is going on. santa rosa dealing with a little fog this morning. mid-30s, santa rosa, fairfield, into livermore. the rest of us dealing with 40s out there. 44 in oakland. 48 san francisco. 40 in the redwood city with generally light winds out there. we will be mainly clear today. a look at the storm-tracker so the storm is still to the north of us, ridge of high pressure still in place. but this ridge is going to shift east. and by tuesday into wednesday, maybe even monday, we're looking at again that storm beginning to impact us. the systems will be dropping out of the gulf of alaska so they're going to be chili and with the chance for rain on monday. rain likely tuesday and wednesday, and look at by wednesday the low snow indicating the colder air. let's enjoy today, right? starting in the mid-30s to mid- 40s. by noontime we'll be looking at 50s, even approaching 60s in many cases and for the afternoon we're going to be just as warm as yesterday,

and continuing through most of the week. our future-cast will show you when we expect the rain to hit the area. more coming up in just a bit. >> looks good. thank you. let's check in on traffic right now. want to give you a live look at highway 101 in san francisco, things like smoothly there. but the situation much different just a few hours ago. several lanes on highway 101 in san francisco were blocked overnight after a car hit a pedestrian. it happened just before 2 a.m. near the caesar cesar chavez exit. and around the same time just across the bay, berkeley police responded to the scene of an accident involving one of their own. it happened at sacramento street in fairview. police say a female officer was driving northbound on sacramento when another vehicle hit her patrol car. the officer and the two people inside the other car had to be taken to the hospital. the officer is expected to be okay. no word though on the condition of the other two people.

this morning, president obama is reaching out to egypt's military. what the president says needs to be done by military leaders there now that they are in charge of that country. and politics are getting more hands-on in venezuela. what is causing the rise in tension there?

happy saturday. mostly clear skies as we start the morning. little cool started, just a light breeze al am immediata for you. this morning, senior u.s. military officials are headed to the middle east to reassure two key u.s. allies. recent demonstrations in egypt have sparked some fear that similar unrest could spread through the region. as a result, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff will hold meetings in amman tomorrow with the jordan king.

jordan is a close u.s. partner on the war on terror and a key player in the mideast peace process. after a visit to jordan, amman will lead to israel where leaders are worried mubarak's resignation could jeopardize the peace treaty with egypt. and as the admiral heads to the middle east, president obama is hopeful for the future of the egyptian people. >> people of egypt have spoken. their voices have been heard, and egypt will never be the same. egyptians have made it clear that nothing less than genuine democracy will carry the day. >> the president made the comments from the white house yesterday. he went on to braise the egyptian military, saying it has served responsibly during the unrest. but he did call for military leaders to end the current state of emergency declared by former president mubarak.

come monday, the white house is going to have a new press secretary. the man formerly on the job, robert gibbs, left his post yesterday. president obama presented gibbs with a gift. there's the tie and the frame he borrowed in 2004. mr. obama wore that tie at the democratic convention that put him in the national spotlight. gibbs thanked the president will reflected on his last two years on the job. >> i want to thank the president and all of his team for, again, the privilege to serve. >> gibbs plans to make money by giving speeches before joining the president's re-election team. this morning an anti- terrorism court in pakistan has

issued a warrant for pervez musharraf. bhutto was the chair of the party, killed in an attack during a rally for new elections. her supporters say musharraf didn't do enough to protect her and try to cover up government mistakes in the investigation. musharraf has lived in exile since 2008, splitting time between dubai and england. 60 years in prison, that's the steps in handed down to chandra levy's killer. ingmar guandique learned his fate yesterday. her mother called him a hideous creature. he said he was sorry but said he had nothing to do with her death. chandra levy disappeared in 2001, her remains were found at a park in washington, d.c. she worked there as a government intern. a british judge postponed his decision on whether to extradite the founder every wikileaks on sex crime allegations. the judge said yesterday he

needed nor time to consider the request. julian assange is wanted for questioning in sweden. he is fighting extradition, saying he will not get a fair trial there. >> i have never been able to present my side of the story. we have been confined to procedural arguments about some abuses of process, the validity of the warrant on its face, but not what props it up. >> his lawyers argue transferring him to sweden could be a stepping-stone to extradition to the u.s., where they believe he could end up face execution for leaking military secrets. the judge is expected to rule on february 24th. iran and north korea are the two countries least favored by americans. that according to a new gallop poll that found only 11% of americans favored those two countries. 92% of those polled at a positive view of canada,

a any proposal by cal-fire is aimed at saving bubba residents fear they could pay with their safety. cal-fire would take over fire service in redwood city, san carlos, belmont, foster city and san mateo. cal-fire says this will save taxpayers money but would close one station and that has some residents worried. >> that i don't like. i like the fact that we have dedicated fire department to our area. >> right now taxpayers pay about $40 million a year to run 18 city and cal-fire stations. cal-fire says its proposal would result in a yearly savings of $13 million. and that's because statewide organization tend to have lower salaries, pension costs and health insurance than city programs. next week california is expected to release a list every state parks that will be closed due to the budget. this year $22 million of budget cuts will mean the permanent

closure of many state parks. supporters say the state needs to start rethinking how the parks are managed, including how to draw on more visitors and improving old campgrounds. park supporters are suggesting that they have more bathrooms and playgrounds for children, but along with those improvements advocates say more public funding, charitable donations, if non-profit support is needed. a new bill will give more local control over events held at the cal palace. this bill is sponsored by senator yee and comes after drug-related deaths and arrest is the at raids last year. yee's bill would allow the mayors of daly city and san francisco to appoint two members to the cow palace board. route now only the governor has the power to appoint people to that nine-member board. a plan to redevelop san francisco's park apartments is moving forward but not everyone is happy about it. that project would add 7200

near units. but during the construction all 1500 people currently living there would have to move out. the owners will likely allow residents to move whack into the new units for rent control prices but residents sayer that not good enough. the final plan needs approval from the city council. we are getting a new look at the vandalism of a controversial pizza shop in san rafael. ktvu has obtained video from the night of february 3rd. someone spray-painted graffiti, a person dressed in black, less than two minutes later the camera captures a second person spray painting. a manager and former employee of a nearby pizza parlor were arrested in connection with the vandalism. we have posted this surveillance video at ktvu.com. just look for the video on demand section. just over 30 minutes the third round of the pebble beach

afternoon, and then our afternoon highs as we get into wednesday and thursday, barely into the 50s. that's a whole 20-degree difference from what we'll be feeling today and we're going to feel it. back to you. one thing you may not want to see while driving under a freeway overpass, how about an icicle? on thursday authorities in oklahoma city had to shut down a busy freeway to remove giant icicles from an overpass. interstate 235 was shut down for 30 minutes while crews cut down those huge icicles. the ice formed after a broken pipe on the bridge began gushing water. lessons learned from the death of a runner. the steps being taken to prevent another tragic accident at a big race this weekend. >> police looking for a man who may provide them with answers after a fatal officer-involved shooting yesterday.

the country. here again is a live look at tahrir square in cairo. it's a new day there after an historic change in power. television announced overnight the country's nighttime curfew is being relaxed. it now starts at midnight and ends at 6 a.m. before the curfew started at 8 p.m. today's curfew announcement comes one day after egypt's vice president made the major announcement mr. hosni mubarak stepped down. >> president hosni mubarak has decided to step down as president of egypt. and has assigned the higher council of the armed forces to run the affairs of the country. >> that announcement led to huge celebrations on the streets of cairo yesterday. one man described what mubarak's resignation means to him. >> end of corruption, freedom.

this is where the officer- involved shooting happened yesterday, in the area of cobb and corcoran avenues in vallejo. there's still police tape left over from the investigation yesterday along with police markings on the pavement here in front of us. it all started with a low-speed police pursuit. newschopper 2 was overhead when the pursuit ended at 4:30 yesterday. police say they were trying to pull over the driver of that black car, for what they described only as a vehicle code violation. police say the driver ignored their orders, to stop and get out of the car, and stopped and pointed a revolver at officers. at that point, police opened fire on the driver shooting and killing him. police have not released the identity of the man they shot but say he's a 45-year-old man. he was wounded by multiple gunshots and pronounced dead at the scene. residents nearby heard it all happen. >> we heard a lot of gunshots, maybe 10, just constantly. it sounded like firecrackers, but we know it wasn't.

-- to drag her, so far. there's no way that you can't know. >> police also released new information about damage to the car. it's described as a silver or gray suv with a black roof rack. police say it may have damage to the left front bumper and tire. luna suffered a crushed hip and serious injuries to her left leg in the accident. her family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. convicted sexes offender carey verse was arrested in concord yesterday for unwanted sexual advances. the contra costa sheriff's department says verse harassed another man during a therapy session six years ago he was the second violent sex offender in california to be released under a conditional program. he was keptically castrated. in a few hours the oscar grant foundation will kick off their day of empower. he was shot on january 1, 2009.

the mission of the oscar grant foundation is to improve communications between the police and the communities they serve. today the event is designed to help at-risk with employment training and drug treatment programs. that event will be held to the at 10 a.m. at east oakland youth development center. it is geared towards men between ages 16 and 34. public memorial service will be held this afternoon for a marin county teacher. deborah schmidt's body was found near a creek behind her home last month. the 53-year-old had been missing for 10 days. police say she wrote a noted on the blackboard of her classroom saying thank you, everyone. her cause of death is still unknown and today's memorial is at 2:00 this afternoon at st. john's church in ross. last night hundreds of people gathered to remember four-year-old juliani cardenas. investigators say juliani was abducted by jose rodriguez.

his mother's ex-boyfriend. a few weeks later the boy's body was found in the delta canal near patterson. sheriff's deputies presumed rodriguez's body will also be found in the canal. >> i've made my peace with god and with jose. whatever -- i believe he's dead. >> last night the crowd filled the community stadium to hear stories and share their memories of juliani. t-shirts were sold and donations were taken to pay for burial and funeral costs. tabitha will give birth to a baby girl in a few weeks. she says her baby will mrs. be named juliani. we have her eulogy with stories about her son in its entirety. you can find that on our website at ktvu.com. police on a medical marijuana dispensary are suspended at least for now.

last year there were a series of rats and our cameras were there. they have criticized the raids while neighbors of the operations applaud it. county prosecutors want to review medical marijuana laws before any more raids are conducted. the death of a half marathon runner in san francisco is under investigation as the city prepares for another race tomorrow. last sunday a 36-year-old man collapsed at the finish line of a run in golden gate park. now the city is investigating whether the race organizers had enough staffers in place to get to the runner in time. but one sports medicine doctor says sometimes preparation isn't enough. >> there's inherit risk that we need to accept as human beings and that the systems will always be felt to be imperfect. >> tomorrow's race is being organized by the chinatown ymca. race organizers say they're double-check, everything to make sure they follow city guidelines for emergency services. according to the guidelines, the size of the race dictates the number of first aid

stations, medical personnel, and ambulances required. a warning for residents in one community after a coyote is spotted roaming the streets. the coyote was seen by residents in marinwood. the marin humane society says the coyote has killed two house cats. people are boeing warned to keep smaller animals inside and walk nature dogs on a leash. chilly was again shaking after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the country. the earthquake hit yesterday sending people into a panic. as you can see, many chileans were visibly up accept the quake comes almost one year after a magnitude 8.8 quake set off a tsunami that left 500 people dead. so far no reports of injuries or death have from yesterday's quake but more than a dozen aftershocks have hit the country in hours since the first shaking began.

expect engine many areas for today. we've got the future-cast. that's coming up in just a few moments. more than 500 volunteers are going to be out in san francisco's chinatown this morning. it's part of the community clean team event. welcoming the year of the rabbit. volunteers will pull weeds, paint over graffiti and pick up trash. the clean-up is from 9 until noon at the housing development at pacific at stockton. san francisco mayor lee will be there to help. he founded the community clean team back in 2002 when he was the director of public works. oakland also celebrates the year of the rabbit today. the asian cultural center hosts their lunar new year's celebration this afternoon. mayor kwan will be there from noon until 4. the celebration is free and open to the public. and the chinese new year parade is a week from today. you can see it at 6 p.m. on february 19th right here on ktvu. this morning oakland police are looking for the people who

crashed a stolen car into a wall. it happened last night. the car hit a power pole then slammed into a wall on 47th avenue. the vehicle had been reported stolen. the people in the car did flee the scene. a man was taken to the hospital after a crash involved in a san francisco cable car. police say a toyota camry hit a pedestrian moments later the camry was then hit by a cable car. it happened yesterday afternoon at powell and stockton streets. witnesses say the pedestrian was conscious and talking on his cell phone before he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. a surprising note of thanks. the google executive is crediting for egyptian protestors' success. >> you're looking live there along interstate 80 in kingvale. the roads look clear but as rosemary was telling you, weather is on the way. if you don't have four-wheel drive and planning to head to tahoe, time to pull out the chains.

describable. emotions were running very high. people were jumping up and down and cheering. and they were hugging each other. cars honking, flags waving. it was -- i was speechless. i couldn't describe it. it was just like -- a sea of people jumping up and down together. >> now that the celebration is under way and may wind down just a bit, how closely are they watching the country's military? the military leaders have already said they're not going to break the peace deal with israel, but there's a lot of emotion out there. what do you think the military needs to do next? >> the military needs next to push for a transition period, where they can hold free, fair and transparent elections and they have to total committee or a council, a presidential council, so to speak, with some civilians in there. and some are calling for a --

government, not political one, where they can organize elections. and the eu also promised to help the egyptian government and people to hold their elections, fair elections. >> what you're watching live unfold in egypt, your thoughts on the impact on the entire arab region. >> it's really scary. i think who will be next? lot of countries are watching and monitoring this closely. lot of leaders were betting on mubarak to stand defiant and stay in power and to wither the storm. but egypt is a -- with 80 million people, actually it's the model for arab countries some if the model collapsed, you can see what will happen next. >> and how long do you think the streets of cairo will be filled with protestors and people celebrating? we heard some people weren't going to come out but the live pictures are that they're still

a big crowd. >> i think they're going to have their days of celebrations. but most of them, they said they're going to go back to, two, go try to build a country. the united states television actually for the first time they have the parties, and interview people, and most people were saying okay, now it's time to build, it's now time to go back to work, and do the -- what egypt needs them to do. >> we appreciate your insight this morning. thank you for joining us this morning. >> sure, no problem. thank you. the google executive who became the face of the uprising in egypt is thanking a tech rival for hosni mubarak's resignation. wael ghonim says facebook is largely responsible for the demonstrations that led to mubarak's downfall. ghonim says the website's

ability to mobilize large masses of people around a single idea is what may change possible in egypt. the google executive said he hopes to meet facebook founder and ceo mark zuckerberg and thank him. despite the credit facebook is getting from ghonim, business experts say the publicity surrounding the google executive is only good news for google itself. a professor at harvard business school says the mountainview based company is getting positive publicity for ghonim's actions in egypt. but the professor adds some governments may see google as a threat because of its association with ghonim. looks like former governor arnold schwarzenegger is returning to acting. we found this message on his twitter account. cas is the former governor's hollywood talent agency.

schwarzenegger quit acting while governor, exempt for a brief cameo role last year in the movie expandables. and former republican candidate for governor meg whitman is heading back to work at her former job. yesterday she was named to the board of directors at procter & gamble. she had resigned from that board while she ran her campaign for governor. procter & gamble said it welcomes back her business knowledge, vision and passion for winning. barry bonds will be back in court next month to be arraigned on new charges related to allegations of steroid use. yesterday a judge ordered bonds to enter the new plea because prosecutors cut down the number of charges he will face. bonds now faces four charges of lying and a fifth charge of obstruction of justice. >> there used to be 11 unfounded counts. and now there are 5 unfounded counts. >> the charges are related to bonds' testimony before a grand jury that he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs. bonds will be arraigned on

march 1. jury selection in his trial is scheduled to begin a few weeks later on march 21st. roger clemens is turning the table on a congressional committee that grilled him in 2008 about using performance- enhancing drugs. yesterday the former major leaguer pitcher subpoenaed a house oversight and government reform committee for copies of all their communications with former players. he's accused of lying to the committee when he testified that he never used steroids or human growth hormone during his career. we'll have the latest news headlines when we come back and a look at the weekend weather.

actress elizabeth taylor remains in the hospital for treatment of congestive heart failure. she was admitted to the medical center a few days ago. the 78-year-old has suffered from congestive heart failure several years and is not known how long she will remain in the hospital. music biggest stars heading

boats more than one hundred years old. they're 90-foot long schooners that transported cargo around the bay. >> we will only preserve segments of the vessel. >> the equipment remains on- site but it's now being used to help the excavation. crews are going through the site by hand to save smaller relics like shoes and pottery. an alaska airlines plane is out of service after a rat turned up onboard. someone spotted that rodent before the plane was about to take off from seattle thursday. so the plane had to return to the gate and the passengers were able to board another plane. now the airline says that plane isn't going to return to service until maintenance crews are sure the rat didn't do any damage to equipment or chew through any wires. if you're flying out of the area, you should center no

okay. there's no word on the condition of the other people involved. this morning police in vallejo are searching for a man who could provide critical answers into a fatal police shooting. last night police shot and killed a 45-year-old man. now they're locking for the passenger of a car chase. ali rasmus has more on the search and for the man. >> reporter: the officer- involved shooting happened around corcoran and cobb avenues in vallejo. it's quiet here this morning. there's a mobile home park over there, and across the street from where this shooting happened you can see there's still some crime scene tape up at a public park in the area. now, this all started yesterday evening. since last night, police have been trying to find a man named reginald jackson. he was a passenger in the car at the center of the officer- involved shooting. police have not released the identity of the man. they say he's a 45-year-old man

from vallejo. yesterday afternoon police tried to pull over the car that that man had been driving for a vehicle code violation. police say the man continued to drive leading them on halo speed pursuit and when the driver finally stopped, he pointed a revolver at officers instead of getting out of the car. at that point police opened fire on the driver, shooting him multiple times. he was pronounced dead at the scene. residents in a community center heard it all happen. >> i heard about 10 shots, real fast, rapid. like boom, boom, boom. >> before that officer-involved shooting happened, there was a passenger in that black car. and police say a man named reginald jackson gout out of the car before the police pursuit and before the shooting and that is the man police are looking for this morning. they want jackson to answer some questions in connection with this case. officials are investigating the officer-involved shooting. so is the district attorney's office. reporting live, ali rasmus,

ktvu channel 2 news. it's now early evening in egypt, and the country's military has made its first move since being handed power. let's look outside in the streets of cairo live this morning. the military announced hours ago it is relaxing the curfew in that country. putting in place -- the start of the mass protests on january 25th. now you're looking live at the streets of cairo. also today the military announced it plans to honor all foreign agreements made by the former president and finally the military said it will eventually hand off power to a civilian government. but it gave no timetable when that would take place. thousands of demonstrators chanted "egypt is free" yesterday after hearing the news of mubarak's resignation. he ruled egypt for close to 30 years. but yesterday after weeks of

protests, he gave up that power and transferred authority to the country's military. vice president omar suleiman delivered the news to the country. demonstrators largely mobilized using social media websites like facebook and twitter. several thousand people in algeria are defying a ban on protests to march demanding democrat you can reforms like egypt. human rights groups say 400 people were arrested today. tensions high in the north african nation since january over high food prices. some observers have predicted algeria could be the next arab country hit by a wave of protests that have ousted two longtime leaders. here in the bay area celebrations over the up rising in egypt will continue today. amnesty international is planning a rally at 1:00 this afternoon at the u.n. plaza in san francisco. rally organizers are also calling on the public to come out and show solidarity with

southern california man after his wife's body was found in a motel room. a worker fun to the body of 47- year-old colleen waterman in a room thursday in san francisco. later the couple's suv was found abandoned at devil's slide along the coast. and that is where police are focusing their search for the woman's husband, 51-year-old billy waterman. >> we searched the entire cliff area, about 50 yards north and south of where the vehicle was found yesterday, and about 150 feet down the cliff. there was no sign of anybody on the cliff. >> the couple is from bermuda dunes near palm springs. family members say they haven't been seen since january but no one was worried until this week. officials aren't sure when they can resume the search. anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office or san francisco police. it's game over for some uc berkeley athletes now that budget cuts have axed some of

the programs there. yesterday the university announced enough money has been raised to save the men's rugby team, women's gymnastics, and women's lacrosse. but there was not enough to save the men's gymnastics and baseball teams. university officials say $25 million was needed to save all five sports, but fund-raising efforts only brought in about half that amount. the university says cal baseball alums donated a smaller portion than other teams, resulting in the program being cut. now the team is preparing for what will likely be the last season for cal baseball. >> everyone just blown away by it. we were hearing so many good things in the past couple weeks, like teams will come back and kind of hoping everything would work out. >> when the news broke, some baseball alumni hit the phones hoping to drum up more support. fund-raising efforts will continue with the hope the university will reverse its decision. good morning to you.

good morning, san francisco! we've got blue skies overmedicine, close to 50 degrees in many places. we do have a warning this morning for residents of one community after numerous coyote sightings. the 40 to 50-pound coyote has been spotted by residents in marinwood, an area of marin county. the humane society says it's already killed two house cats. so people in the area are being warned to keep smaller animals inside and walk your dogs on a leash. experts say if you see a coyote, mauck a lot of noise and try to appear as large as possible juppe a new bill ages to bring more local control to events at the cow palace. the legislation sponsored by senator yee comes after drug- related deaths and injuries last year. the bill will allow the mayors to appoint two members to the cow palace board. right now only the governor has the power to appoint people to

the board. raids on santa clara medical marijuana dispensaries are being is spended for now. last year our cameras were there during a series of raids. but there have been mixed reaction. advocates criticized them while neighbors applaud it. county prosecutors say they want to review medical marijuana laws before conducting any more raids. a plan to redevelop san francisco's apartments is moving forward. the project would add 7200 new units near san francisco's state university. we spoke with a park spokesperson in the past hour. he told us the new homes would be built before the old ones are destroyed so none of the people living there would be displaced. some longtime residents say they were worried about apartment unique character being ruined by the development. the final plan needs approval from the city council. cal-fire is looking to consolidate fire service but city residents fear they could pay with their safety. the proposal says cal-fire would take over fire service in

welcome back. this morning senior u.s. military officials are headed to the middle east to reassure two key u.s. allies. the recent demonstrations in egypt have sparked some fear that similar unrest could spread through the region. as a result, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff mullen will hold meetings in amman

a fatal officer involved shooting in vallejo, police are looking for a man who but with the dead suspect right before gunfire erupted. welcome back too mornings on 2 this saturday. as we said, police are searching for that man who was in the same car as a 45-year- old resident. this is short time before the man was shot and killed by police. police did detain. man for questioning prior to the shooting in the country club crest neighborhood yesterday afternoon. but then they let him go. ali rasmus is there this morning with the latest on the search. good morning, ali. >> reporter: good morning.

vallejo police say the man is reginald jackson. they detained and questioned him briefly, then released him before the shooting happened. but now that the shooting and police pursuit occurred they would like to talk him to again. this is where the fatal officer- involved shooting happened, on cobb and corcoran avenues. if we take a look at the neighborhood, you can see it's pretty quiet this morning. off to the right there's a mobile home park, and then across the street from where the shooting occurred there's a open field with some police crime tape left up from the investigation last night. newschopper 2 was overhead whet the pursuit ended around 4:30 yesterday, when police fatally shot the driver of the black car you're looking at in the video. police have not released the identity of the man they shot, but they say he's a 45-year-old man from vallejo. and police say when they asked the driver to stop and pull over, he pointed a revolver at officers. and at that point police old fire on the driver, shooting and killing him. residents at a nearby community center heard it all happen.

>> we heard a lot of gunshots. maybe 10, just constantly. sound like fire crackers but we know it wasn't. >> once again, police say the man they're looking for this morning is reginald jackson. they say he was a passenger in the car involved in the pursuit. the but he got out of the vehicle before the confrontation with police and before the officer-involved shooting occurred. police say they'd like to talk to jackson as part of their investigation into the officer- involved shooting. officials are looking into the officer-involved shooting and so is the district attorney's office. reporting live, ali rasmus, ktvu handle 2 news. this morning in san francisco, police are treating the death of a 65-year-old man as a homicide. police found his body inside a nob hill apartment last night. they were called to the apartment on bush street for a welfare check just after 6 p.m. police say they found obvious signs of troubla on the man's body and they do suspect foul

play. a berkeley police officer is recovering this morning after being involved in a car crash. it happened just after 2:00 on sacramento street in fairview. berkeley police say a female officer was driving northbound on sacramento when another car hit her patrol car. the officer and two people from the other car had to be taken to the hospital. the officer is expected to be okay. there is no word on the condition of the other people involved. new developments from egypt. we just learned in the last 20 minutes that official protests in that country are about to end. the main opposition groups just announced they're going to end the gathering in tahrir square, this one day after hosni mubarak re sound and put the military in charge. despite the end of the gathering, the group has listed several demands to the country's military and they include the end of emergency laws, the end every egypt's parliament, and a new committee to amend the constitution.

the opposition groups say they're going to hold weekly protests until their demands are met. these new developments in the last several minutes comes hours after a top military official went on egyptian television this morning to speak to the country. the move is seen as a big step in reassuring the public that order remains in the country as the first steps towards greater democracy are made. among the announcements made in morning, the military said it is relaxing the curfew in the country. also the military says it does plan on handing off power to a civilian government at some point. but no timetable was given on when that will take place. finally, it does plan to honor all foreign agreements made by former president mubarak. here in the bay area, celebrations over the uprising in egypt will continue today. yesterday a large crowd gathered in the early evening at the united nations plaza to celebrate the resignation. that same group will be back at 1:00 today. organizers are amnesty international are calling on public to come out and show

old, with black hair, a medium to dark complection and mustache. the victim remains in critical condition following another surgery. her brother is convincened the driver knows exactly what he did. >> there's no state of mind that you wouldn't be able to know that you hit somebody and to drag her so far, there's no way that you can't know. >> we also have some new information about damage to the car. it's being described as a silver or gray suv with a black roof wrack rack. it maybe damaged on the left front bumper and tire. luna suffered a crushed hip and serious injuries to her left leg in the accident last sunday. her family is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. just over one hour the oscar grant foundation kicks off their day of empowerment. grant was shot and killed by bart police officer johannes mehserle on january 1, 2009. the mission of the foundation is to improve communications

between the police and the communities they serve. today's event is designed to help at-risk youth with things like employment training and drug treatment programs. the event will be held today at 10 a.m. at the east oakland youth development center on international boulevard. it's geared towards men between ages 16 and 34. it was a sad night in patterson as hundreds of people gathered to remember four-year- old juliani cardenas. investigators say juliani was abducted by jose rodriguez, his mother's ex-boyfriend, on january 18th. a few weeks later the boy's body was found in the canal near patterson. sheriff's deputies expect rodriguez's body will also be found in the cancel at some point. >> i've made my peace with god. and with jose. whatever -- because i believe he's dead. >> last knight the crowd filled

welcome back. morning to you, giving us a live look from our ktvu towercam at the estuary there. looks like we have some folks already in the water in the mid- 40s if oakland. that was the sound of a shaking after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the country in chile. it sent people into a panic. as you can see, many of the chileans were visibly upset. yesterday's quake comes already and almost one year after a magnitude 8.8 quake set off a tsunami that left 500 people dead. so far, there are no reports of any injuries or deaths from yesterday's quake but more than a dozen aftershocks have hit the country in the hours since

the first shaking began. this morning a pakistani court in pakistan has issued an arrest warrant for former military leader pervez musharraf. the warrant is in connection to the 2007 assassination of bhutto who was the chair of the people's party and she was killed during an attack during a rally for the new election. her supporters say musharraf did not do enough to protect her and tried to cover up the government mistakes in the investigation. musharraf has lived in exile since 2008, spending time between dubai and england. egypt's military now in charge after the ousting of president hosni mubarak. we just learned opposition groups will end their protests in central cairo. for more on the developments we have dr. mohammad a professor of arab studies on phone this morning. good morning. >> good morning. >> let's talk about what this means for that entire region. people are concerned on what could happen in other countries. they know the chairman of the

joint chiefs of staff will go to jordan tomorrow, then israel. what do you think what happens next with that region? >> well, egypt is a very central country in the middle east. and i'm not going to be surprised there will be what you might call -- effect which already started in tunisia. so it's asking that within the next few months, possibly before the end of the year, that we will see other uprisings in similar countries trying to out dictators. >> we're seeing images of celebrations over the lasts 12, 24 hours in egypt. and in a sense it's almost time to get to work fairly soon. we keep hearing word of elections in september. what are the next crucial steps in egypt to make sure that election process goes smoothly? >> well, first i'm really happy and. lan egypt has finally gotten rid of mubarak, after 30 years. i wish i were there to dance in the square with everybody. as to what is next, i think

steps done at various levels. on the first one, of course, i want to just let people know that egypt army is not that kind of army, right now that will be become a -- or anything like that or take over the country. egyptian army does not have the knowledge to even run any type after fairs and we don't expect it to do so. it's basically a question of overseeing the transition. now, as to what will happen on the grounds, here's what i expect. i expect the egyptian confusion gets radically more defined, in order not to allow for any -- that somebody who takes over and just do what mubarak did, at the same time there will be fair elections on even marches within society and also maybe leading figures, the arab league chairman, i can also think of -- very important and hopefully pop already people in egypt who might take over and might be elected in the free election process that hopefully

will take place in september and this is what i see it going. >> in the meantime, i know that the opposition groups just told us within the last half hour they'll end these daily protests we see on the streets of cairo. big crowd out there top. but weekly demonstrations. how likely if things don't go the way the people want will we see more continued protests? >> well, i do not think that anyone in egypt now thinks that the army takeover will be a return to the type of government so i really think that this is a trawlingful account egyptian revolting now for 19 days, it's time for people to get bag to their life and time for them to -- the job has been done. mubarak is gone. and this is the -- what we all kneeled and time to look forward and hopefully get salvage whatever is left of our country and just look ahead at this moment, which is a great

moment for egyptians to choose to be on the right part of democracy. >> san francisco state professor of arab studies, dr. mohammed, we appreciate your time on this saturday morning. a british judge has postponed himself decision on whether to extradite the founder ever wikileaks on sex crime allegations. he said yesterday he need more time to consider the request. julian assange is wanted for questioning in sweden. he is fighting extradition, saying he will not get a fair trial there. >> i have never been able to present my side of the story. we have been confined to procedural arguments about some abuses of process, the validity of a warrant on its face, but not what props it up. >> his lawyers argue transferring him to sweden could be a stepping-stone to extradition to the united

states, where he could end up facing execution for leaking military secrets. the judge is expected to rule on february 24th. former giants slugger barry bonds will be back in court next month to be arraigned on new charges related to alleges of steroid abuse. prosecutors have cut the number of charges he faces from 11 to 5. the former giants player now faces four charges of lying and a fifth charge every obstruction of justice. an alaska airlines plane is now out of service after a rat turn up onboard. someone spotted the road on just before the plane was about to take off from seattle on thursday. the plane had to return to the gate and passengers were able to board another plane. the airline says the plane won't return to service until maintenance crews can be sure the rat did not damage any equipment or chew through any of the wires in the plane. the blame game continues for a super bowl slipup.

a man in georgia is accusing wal-mart of selling him a fake ipad. he says when he opened his ipad he noticed the glass picture on the screen and the case were all fake. a tech expert says it looks like someone bought a real u pad and returned the fake for cash. but he suggested he was the one line the switch. >> they should give me my money back. but he decided i was the one that put it in the box, it was not their fault. >> he does want the money back and now figures a lawsuit is the only way to get it. a wal-mart spokesman says the company will continue to investigate the claim and will respond through a legal process of their own. new details on a super bowl slipup that prevented 400 fans from seeing the game in person. e-mails released by the city of arlington show city officials had several concerns with the progress of temporary bleachers that were supposed to be ready
