dugard case tab. in san mateo is mother is speaking out a police shooting of her son. it happened on oak street. ktvu's jeanine has new information now on what was happening just before that gunfire. janine. >> reporter: frank, the man's family says he is dead, but police have not confirmed that. what police are saying is that this was an officer involved shooting and just in the next 30 minutes, a press conference will get underway here at police headquarters, where they are expected to release more details. police surrounded this house on oak street shortly after 10:30 thismorning. they were called here after reports of gunfire. >> someone saying very bad words, you know. f words and all that. then bang, bang, bang. three shots i heard. >> sandra karen said it was her son, robert, who was shot. he was upset after going to the nearby cvs pharmacy to pick up medicine. >> he was frantic.

everybody knows, the police know. they have to pay. to pay what? i never pay. okay. he got very upset, came home, and they send the police here. >> at this point, police have not said what karen did to prompt them to call them. karen shot at them. robert's mother said she was home during all the commotion and police had to hold her back. >> look what they did. the police -- >> neighbors say karen is in his 30s and lives with his mother and father at the home. his mother, visibly upset didn't want to address how police handled the situation. ingly don't have anything to say to the cops. >> police spent the entire day combing the house and the neighborhood, collecting evidence. police will talk to us in the next half hour to tell us exactly what happened at that shooting coming up at 6:00. reporting live from san mateo,

ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police need more information in a mission district shooting that left a 27-year-old man with life threatening wounds. the injured man was found sitting in a car on alabama street near cesar chavez street around 10:30 last night. the shooting suspects escaped in another vehicle. when we called police, they have no new information about the suspects or the vehicle description. investigators say they believe the shooting is gang related. the coroner identified the man shot and killed saturday night. he is aldo hernandez. police officers found him dead sitting in the driver's seat of a parked car near dakota and 23rd street. police have not arrested anyone in connection with this case. investigators are urging anyone with information to give them a call. in oakland, community members are organizing a week of action to protest a controversial gang injunction. the injunction would prohibit 40 suspected gang members from gathering in the fruitvail neighborhood. critics argue it could lead to

racial profiling and unfairly target young people. >> this year alone, we have seen a lot of young people being victims of this type of harassment and they know this every day, that when they are in front of a police officer, that you know, they are vulnerable. >> the week of action includes bike rides through the north and east oakland areas tomorrow. also, a youth concert in more than 30 oakland classrooms on wednesday. a vigil on thursday, and a statewide rally at city hall on friday. a head on accident in samona county sent two people to the hospital. it happened near adobe road. the road was shut down for about an hour. the chp says the driver of a ford crown victoria made an unsafe turn and crashed into a tractor trailer that was going the other direction. the driver of the ford and a passenger were taken to santa rosa memorial hospital in serious condition.

this week. the national transportation safety board opens three days of hearings tomorrow on last september's pipeline blast that killed 8 people and destroyed 38 homes. ten pg&e employees are expected to testify during the hearings that will focus on the pipeline's operation and regulations. the ntsb hearings will be open to the public. >> iran's top diplomat said he hopes the case involving two uc berkeley graduates will soon come to an end. ali salahi said he would like to see iran's judiciary expedite the case. they are accused of spying and are currently on trial. the two were arrested near iran's border with iraq. he was granted a humanitarian release for health reasons and has chosen not to return to iran to face trial. in a similar case, iran released two german journalists last week. secretary of state, hillary clinton sent libya's moammar

gadhafi a strong message today. his time as libya's leader is up. the united nations human rights leader in geneva. opened fire on peaceful protesters and used weapons on unarmed citizens. >> through their actions, they have lost the legitimatey to govern. the people of libya made themselves clear. it is time for gadhafi to go now without further violence or delay. >> secretary clinton says the international community will hold libya's leaders responsible for any violations of universal rights. in libya today, security forces in tripoli quickly dispursed several hundred protesters today. st demonstration began following the funeral for a person killed by gunfire last week. gadhafi forces held the capital and much of the eastern part of libya while rebels control much of the west. in wisconsin, the governor

is asking all of those missing state senators to come home. in a speech today, scott walker once again warned of quote, dire consequences if the absent democrats did not return within 24 hours to vote on a measure to reduce the power of the public sector unions. meanwhile, demonstrators inside the capital continue to hold their ground. some have ignored instructions to remain on the ground floor with one man climbing on one of the buildings balconies. outside, the crowd is growing. there's a permanent memorial to more than 900 that killed in the massacre coming up next. don't put those umbrellas away yet. i have rain back in the forecast. i have the latest computer model that shows the areas that will get the wettest.

massacre be remembered at an oakland cemetery and should the name of their leader be included? ktvu's jim vargas is in oakland tonight with the battle over dualing jones town memorials. jim. >> reporter: frank, we are just outside the gates of the evergreen cemetery. just a short distance away is a grave for 405 of the 900 people temple members who died in jonestown way back in 1978. there is a single standard size headstone where the bodies are buried. they and the others died by drinking poisoned kool aid. >> the center piece will be of red granite with a 5-foot by 6 heart. >> in the decades, she raised less than a third needed for the monument. the monument maker has gone broke. the cemetery management said the grave cannot physically support the granite slabs. norwood said there is conspiracy between the cemetery

and the competing group. >> they have a right to put a memorial up, but not here. >> adding to the fight, she says the alternative group idea is outrageous. >> it's like going to the jewish community and telling them to put adolf hitler's name on the memorial. >> jim jr. is with the group who wants to install the monument, one that fits the site. >> dr. norwood has been involved with the project, but there are other survivors that want the project done now. >> jones says it's right to put his name on the monument. >> by leaving his name off, you are recognizing his authority. if you include his name as another person who passed away, it minimizes its effect. >> norwood says this whole thing could end up in court. live in oakland, ktvu channel 2 news. the antioch man accused of threatening to blow up the bay bridge last november could be

headed to jail for a year. he pleaded guilty friday to several charges including felony child endangerment because his teenage daughter was in the car with him during that incident. carlos valentino is also looking at four years of probation and will have to pay for the costs incurred during that incident. sentencing is scheduled for march 25. once again, surhon is up for parole. he was convicted in the 1968 shooting death of senator robert kennedy. senator kennedy just declared victory for president of the united states. he claims he cannot remember if he shot kennedy nay june night in the kitchen of the ambassador hotel. the parole board will take up his case this week. the search goes on for a missing san francisco man who was last seen in the city's outer richmond neighborhood. 73-year-old kenneth chin lives at an assisted living home. the search of golden gate park took place on saturday, but crews found no sign of him.

police asked businesses over the weekend to check their surveillance footage for any sign of him. a man from tracy was sentenced to three concurrent life sentences for participating in the imprisonment and torture of a teenage boy. a judge handed down the sentence today to 31-year-old anthony waiters. the victim was beaten, burned, and shackled at a home in tracy for a year before he escaped in 2008. three other departments, including the boy's legal guardian reached plea deals and are serving more than 30 years in prison. there could be a delay in the trial of the doctor charged in the death of singer, michael jackson. the judge in the case says he is considering a delay because attorneys for dr. conrad murray have not turned over witness statements to prosecutors. murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. the judge says he may fine defense attorneys for failing to give the prosecution potential evidence 30 days before the start of the trial. march 24 is the scheduled start

date. historic coca-cola sign will have to go under wraps until it fate is decided. it was painted back in world war ii. the owner of the home restored the sign, but the planning department sited him because he didn't have an advertising permit. some neighbors oppose the sign because it's right across the street from a school. property owner plans to cover the sign with siding while he waits for the city to determine if the sign is a historic landmark. what a beautiful day, but you are saying changes in the works, huh? >> we had a south wind all day. it's bringing clouds in and we had record cold temperatures over the weekend. some arctic air in here. these south winds are blowing out that cold air. overnight lows are gradually warming up. this is what a south wind looks like. thatst what we are seeing. so instead of having freeze warnings or frost advisories tonight, we are going to be cold. we aren't seeing any advisory

two nasa astronauts are celebrating. they spent more than 6 hours outside the international space station. there was one glitch with the robotic arm while they did preparations for a final storage module. also, one astronaut captured a vacuum of space, kind of like putting a message in a bottle. a nonprofit research organization paid $400,000 for two tickets on board a private spacecraft. it has been testing its spaceship for the past seven years while the craft is aimed at wealthy space tours, the southwest research institute reserved two seats to conduct experiments in space. at least 370 other customers have signed up. there's no word on when virgin galactic will begin its flight. that sent stocks way

higher. the other encouraging news for investors came from the commerce department, which reported consumer income rose by the largest amount in nearly two years. the dow finished the day up 95 points at 12,226. the nasdaq added just over 1 point closing at 2,782. the u.s. government revised its estimate on how much china owns in u.s. treasury securities. the revised estimate puts the figure another $1.16 trillion. that is 30% higher than the first estimate the government made two weeks ago. the government said it changed the estimate because they received accurate figures. a move that could have led to interest rate hikes here in the united states. fewer americans signed contracts to buy homes in january. the national association of realtors says its index sales agreement fell 2.8% last month

to a reading of 88.9. the second straight monthly decline. june saw the lowest reading since the housing bust at 75.9. a reading of 100 is considered healthy. california of the arts is growing its san francisco campus. the school bought the 2.5-acre yard on mission bay, that's what you see here. the lot, which went for $8.4 million is next to the main building on 8th street. the school's president said there will be extensive research, community involvement, and fund raising before development plans are finalized. stay with us, more news straight ahead.

san jose and many club owners say a tax being collected by the city is excessive and provides no legal protection. robert. >> that's right, gasia. a potential new revenue source, medical marijuana. starting tomorrow, the city expects to start collecting tax money from pot clubs, but the owner of this cannabis collective says he does plan to open his new business tomorrow, but not promising to pay the tax. there are about 100 cannabis clubs in san jose right now, but the city has yet to fully develop a medical marijuana poll schism on the same day the city plans to start taxing. san jose's first collective will reopen. all american cannabis club. >> the new collective gives us a fresh start and a chance to take the collective to another level as far as legal protection. >> san jose's new policy through measure you provides a monthly tax receipt.

ktvu channel 2 news. beginning tomorrow, the sale of five chemicals used in fake marijuana will be banned. the drug enforcement agency ordered the chemicals to be banned for at least a year. drug paraphernalia shops sell the leaves. it comes after growing reports of bad reactions to the chemicals, including seizures, hallucinations, and addiction. use a laser pointer and go to a federal prison. that's the intent of a bill that would make aiming a laser beam at an aircraft a federal offense. the bill will make it a crime punishable up to five years in prison. a growing number of incidents which pilots are being distracted by laser pointers. about a month ago, the senate approved the same measure as part of an faa funding bill. solicitors could be banned from san francisco international airport. the airport commission plans to take up the proposed ban at its

meeting tomorrow. they receive 125 formal complaints from passengers who say they have been harassed by solicitors inside and outside terminals. an airport spokesman said, free speech activities would still be allowed in designated areas, but groups wouldn't be able to ask for money or touch passengers. the new rules would take effect in april. wintery weather up north didn't just make a mess of the roads, we have a snow covered runway. yesterday up in grass valley. the pilot of the cessna 150 says the plane touched down at nevada county airport, but its wheels got caught about a foot and a half of snow and the plane flipped over nose first. the airport had been closed since friday. the pilot got no warning, he was able to walk away unharmed. jane russell who's shot to fame is the star of the outlaw has died. she made a handful of films.

a bay area company is celebrating a big win today. pixar is behind toy story 3 which picked up an oscar. pam cook sat down with the oscar winning producer, darla anderson last month, who said just getting nominated was overwelming. now we're talking with darla and her team right now about last night's victory. you're going to hear from them coming up all new at 6:00. toy story 3 was nominated for best picture, but the big win ended up going to the king speech. in the wake of the triumph comes controversy to date over a new pg13 version that is set

he was 110 years old. a newly released file contains a memo that claims kennedy once rented a brothel in chile. the watch obtained the file under a freedom of information act. the memo came from the state department that tracked the 1961 fact finding trip to south merck. in the memo, a state department official described kennedy, then 29 years old as pompous and a spoiled brat. kennedy was elected to senate the next year and served until his death in 2009. the kennedy family had no comment. for what might be the first time somalia pirates have taken children hostage. the danish government said pirates seized a yacht belonging to a family from denmark including three children. this is the second private vessel taken in one month. earlier this month, pirates killed four americans aboard their sailboat. it could change the way you

there is something other than real fruit inside the box, food die listed in the ingredients. blueberries are already blue. certainly if you really want to make sure you're getting the real thing, add those blueberries yourself. taco bell is launching an ad campaign to answer the question, where's the beef? the fast food chain is defending itself against a lawsuit that alleges the taco filling isn't beefy enough. in one of the ads, an employee says taco bell uses 88% premium ground beef and 12% signature recipe. filed the lawsuit back in january on behalf of a california woman that said taco filling is mostly nonbeef. president obama is telling governors who oppose his healthcare overhaul plan to design their own plan. the law allows states to do that beginning in 2017, but the president is backing a senate plan that would allow states to submit their plans. today, at a meeting of u.s. governors, the president said their plans would need to be as

they recently complete construction. google says it fixed an e- mail problem that plagued some of its users over the weekend. google said it restored service to some of the users to find all of their old messages deleted. the company is working on restoring the lost messages. not all google users saw the problem. the company says it was only a small percent. parts of the midwest are cleaning up after severe storms rolled through. tornadoes responsible for this damage. it's in henry county, kentucky, east of louisville. it's one of two tornadoes confirmed to hit the state. kentucky state police say that one family tried to escape the storm by running to a car, but that car was picked up and thrown against a tree. the family, however, escaped unharmed. the st. louis area also reported tornadoes. here in the bay area are umbrellas are an arm's reach away. according to bill martin. they should stay there. >> keep them handy, not just

attorneys in the barry bonds perjury case argued over pretrial motions as they get ready to go to trial in three weeks. bonds is accused of lying to a federal grand jury whether he knowingly received and used performance enhancing drugs. the judge has to rule on a total of 20 remaining motions from both sides. most of them dealing with limiting who can testify and what they can say. an exclusive oakland country club invited you to hit the links. sequoia opened its club to raise funds for an organization that helps under served kids through golf. it needs to raise $13,000 to
