good afternoon. topping our news, a large raid in the bay area, including police action at a card club aimed at cracking down on observed crime. kraig debro has been on the story all morning and joins us now with more information. good afternoon, kraig. >> reporter: good afternoon,er tory. within the past hour i've learned from federal agents that there's another card club raided this morning, as part of the same action. this one is artichoke joe's. you can see this is the oak's card club. state and federal law enforcement agents poring over card club documents just after they rushed the place heavily armed. >> yeah, fbi. >> several, several fbi agents came in with machine guns,

machine -- machine guns drawn, told us to show our arms up. >> reporter: federal authorities stormed the card club. an irs agent would not tell us the reason for the aid. agents questioned employees and patron. >> do i know, you know, wrongdoing going on in the casino? i actually don't. >> they asked did i seek any cleating or loan sharking or did anybody -- or did anybody ask if i needed a loan? i told them know. >> reporter: authorities said an outside group may be involved. a dealer of the drub club -- of the club that hosts asian games, such as pai gwot is being sought.

>> my gut feeling is loan moneying. >> reporter: the irs agent said the documents are sealed until tomorrow, then we should get a deeper look at the raid here and in san bruno. reporting live in emeryville, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. this is another day of action at school campuses all over the state. teachers, students and parents are trying to, once again, send the message that budget cuts are devastating for education. claudine wong will join us live shortly -- shortly with an update at one of the rallies. and san francisco state is also one of the locations for a day of action protests today. [chanting] >> what do we do! >> fight back! >> this is video within the past hour. students and faculty marched to protest reductions in moneys for schools. they say the classes are overcrowded and it's hurting

the quality of education. one reck chur -- one lecturer called it dismantling of public education in california. in washington, d.c., it's the second day of hearings on the san bruno pipeline explosion. today's focus is about how much san francisco knew about the dangerous pipeline running under their city. earlier, the fire chief testified he did not know of the existence of the transmission line untilty -- line until it blew up. >> they had no idea. they were on -- they had no idea they were under a pipeline. there's something that has to be done to make that right. >> reporter: the chief acknowledged that his department has not made use of a federal website that provides first responders with maps of gas lines in their communities. the blast killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes last september. today, the u.s. senate

approved an emergency short- term spending plan that mr. prevent a government -- that will prevent a government shutdown -- government shutdown. it passed yesterday. it will give the white house and congress two more weeks, and that will fund the government through the 30th. president obama has called on congressional leaders to begin discussions on a longer-term plan. wind and rain made a mess of the commute in some parts of the bay area this morning. here's what it looks like right now in walnut creek. hard to really see too much at all. the winds are tapering off earlier squalls and gusts up to 30 miles an hour swept through, slowing traffic and triggering a number of accidents. the chp says it was the seat belt, though, that saved the driver and passenger in this accident near anderson drive and sir francis drake boulevard

on the back side of san quentin boulevard. it was the case of a driver going too fast on a curve during the rain. >> her rear-end tires spun out. she lost control, headed to the hill, hit the hool and up and over on the roof. >> the officer said it was one of many calls all related to the weather. her driver and passenger both had minor injuries. and here's what it looked like at down near larkspur. this is before the traffic started to build up on the rain- slicked roadways this morning. well, heaviest rainfall has moved out of the bay area -- bay area for some parts of the region. it wasn't muff of a sentence. up in santa rosa, 1.39. but the rainfall totals quakily

-- 20 20 -- to grow. sonoma state is kicking off an action and at st. james park a rally is getting underway. events are continuing today and they began early in the morning. >> no teacher layoffs! >> reporter: that was scene at oakland high this morning. before school started, teachers and students held signs to passing cars trying to raise awareness. >> the message is we've been cut to bone already. last year our music program was shut down at oakland high. this year they are threatening counseling. they are threatening, not replace our lie bay area bay areaian -- librarian. we're looking at higher class sizes. we can't run this. >> reporter: just about an hour

newscasts. thank you, claudine. oakland firefighters say they found at least 300 marijuana plants while responding to an electrical fire at a warehouse this morning. it started during the 7:00 hour on chestnut street. firefighters say the flames caused considerable damage. >> right now, we have multiple fire code violations, multiple building code violations and numerous electrical code violations. >> no one was hurt. battalion chieftainer said this is the second tire at -- fire at this building this month and it's believed it's a pot- growing operation not sanged by the city. oakland police are now investigating. two firefighters are recovering after being hurt while fighting a fire in alamo. this is video from this morning from the fire department. the fire started around 8:340 last night in a fireplace -- 8:30 last night in a fireplace. everyone got out safely. but two firefighters were taken to the hospital.

upright the trailer and get it out of the roadway, where it blocked lanes for about an hour and a half. chp said weather did not play a role in the accident but it did add to the commute headache. the-- headache that the rain was causing. in libya, government forces failed to take an oil installation along the coast with militias in the east. opponents of gadhafi managed to fight off members of the regime who had originally captured the oil facility. they battled until a wave of rebels were out of the area. six people were killed in the fighting. in the meantime, gadhafi is stepping up force against those who intervene in what is quickly becoming a libyan civil war. he said thousands of thousands of people will die and outcome will be worst in what happened in iraq and afghanistan. german authorities say they have a 21-year-old man from kosovo in custody for a deadly

attack on a u.s. military bus near the frankfurt airport. they say the suspect briefly entered the bus, started shooting and was caught when he tried to escape. the driver and a passenger were killed. two others were wounded. they were all u.s. air force airmen on their way to deployment and were about to fly on a commercial plane from that airport. a member of the homeland security department says it looks like a terrorist attack. today, the supreme court ruled that fundamentalist church members who hold anti- gay protests outside military funerals are protected by the first amendment. the high court voted 8-1 in favor of the westborough baptist church of toe pea topeka, kansas. that throws out the $5 million judgment against the church. the father of a dead marine sued the church.

church members say the deaths in afghanistan and iraq are punishment for homosexuality. a man's body was found inside of a jewelry store last night on mason street. the grim discovery came while police were checking on the welfare of the unidentified man. homicide detectives have joined this investigation but police are not saying how the man had died. residents in vallejo are blaming a limited police presence for an increase in prostitution. the police department says the number of officers on the street has gone from 155 to 90 since the city filed for bankruptcy. and since the cut, more prostitutes have been seen along sonoma boulevard. so residents have performed a patrol and their mission is to push out prostitutes. >> we establish a preps. we take back our neighborhood -- a presence. we take back our neighborhood. >> the patrol takes pictures of prostitutes and notes where

they spend time and they turn that over to police who say it makes it easier to track the prostitutes. a woman survived a terrifying ride, clicked to the hood of a mini gun 100 miles an hour -- mini van going 100 miles an hour. the incident happened early in manteca but ended here in the bay area. the woman said she boot in front of the van -- she got in front of the van of her exhusband to get him to stop. >> i was holding on literally by my -- the tip of my fingers and my ankles. i know it was the stupidest thing i've ever done. >> police say the man drove up to speeds of 100 miles an hour. he finally slowed down in pleasanton allowing his wife to roll off the van. witnesses who have seen the bizarre scene helped take her

to the hospital where she was treated for scrapes and hypo thermo yaw -- hypothermia. quite a few clouds in place across the bay area. at least the rainband moved through this morning. right now, you can see the coverage with bulk of the activity up along the north coast closer to eureka, fort bragg and ukiah. not a lot of coverage to show you but even if you are not covered, you can still see mist and drizzle in the south bay and the north bay. i still suspect some misty drizzle. in fact, some a live look outside, still plenty of clouds in place. currently 54 degrees. up to the north, santa rosa, the airport reporting partly sunny skies. current numbers are in the 50s. hayward's checking in at 60 degrees. sanjose, 59. fairfield, 54. for the weather we'll hold onto

the clouds and the possibility of a few showers. tomorrow more clouds and also occasional showers. it won't be a rainout. there's still plenty of breaks in the activity. and then for the weekend we're tracking our next significant system and this could produce heavy rain especially for saturday night into early sunday morning. rain returns. that will be a factor as we return to saturday. we had the bulk of the rainfall earlier this morning, also gusty winds. the wind advisories have expired. we're still holding onto sunny skies. not a lot of rainfall coverage here i suspect but still possibility of a few light showers and drizzle. wee take this -- we'll take -- we'll take this into thursday's commute. we could have a few popup showers basically anywhere across the area. the same deal at 3:00. friday will be dry but then as we head into the weekend we'll watch the system approaching

our coastline. 57 to 62. a few show the chance of a shower at 6:00 and then into the evening hours by 9:00. mostly cloudy skies. 48 to 53 degrees. that's for the evening. but temperatures this afternoon still relatively mild in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. remember, just last week we're talking about the readings only in the 40s. here is a look ahead to your five-day forecast -- occasional showers into your thursday. not a wash out -- washout. the chance of rain by saturday afternoon but by saturday night and sunday morning, the rain could be heavy and the winds could be gusty. >> thank you, mark. drivers in dublin are staying a way from one gas station because of the price listed on the electronic sign. it says regular gas is selling for $9.83 a gallon. we called the chevron station and an employee told us the numbers are transposed. the real nice is $3.89.

there are signs that this year's salmon run will be strong enough for a full season of commercial fishing. the salmon population may even triple, according to some predictionses, by biologists. state fish and game announced preliminary projections of about 250 million of salmon in the waters. the season usually starts in mid-april. actor charlie sheen says she's ready to fight to get his two young sons back. his 2-year-old twins were removed from his house last night after a court order was granted to his estranged wife, brooke mueller. she got a restraining order after she said sheen threatened her life. tonight at 5:00 we're following the day of action across the bay area. student rallies j rust -- are
