nortenos are one of the most violent gangs. the nortenos were gang in half of the shootings in the fruitvale areas are and responsible for high level crimes. that's why the city attorney says he needs to have these gang injunctions placed to make these gang members are not hanging out together. and the group critical resistance founder is expected to be out here today to discuss this. as of right now it's pretty peaceful. no problems whatsoever. these people out here basically say they want a stop of a gang injunction. they say that gang injunctions are racially backed. but police say they need to have these in place so that gang members do not commit any

more crimes. paul chambers, ktvu news? governor came to the bay area on a sales call of sorts, helping to gardener support. ktvu caught up with the governor this afternoon. the governor was shot sugar coating things here. >> the governor was in the financial district today. he was meeting with influential business leaders trying to sell his office plans, which includes putting taxes or tax proposals before voters. a plan that is not yet sealed. san francisco at the bank of america building to seek what he surely knew he already had. that was the endorsement of the bay area council. the significance of that endorsement is his plans supporting not only cuts but his plan also supporting tax extensions on a june special election ballot. brown also indicate had the he

is getting close to enough republican support to put those tax extensions on the ballot. the deadline is next thursday. and brown says failure to approve the tax question will lead to staggering cuts. >> i didn't come here to try to put sugar and syrup on the problem. i'm telling you the way it is and the way it is, it's either 12.5 billion in cuts or 25 billion. that's the way, i am not trying to make it as painless as possible. >> reporter: governor brown was in san francisco today, the work on his budget continues in sacramento. we'll talk about that at 6:00. the budget plan he has is closer to a vote next week. but it is getting very close to that important deadline if he wants those tax exemptions on a ballot. and the most up to date information we have on governor

longer defend its constitutionality. the law is currently being challenged in the courts, speaker boehner can have the house counsel take legal action on behalf of congress. the nationwide unemployment rate went down slightly to 8.9% in january. in california unemployment fell from 12.9% in december to 12.4% in january. january unemployment in the bay area range from 12.5% to 8.2% in marin. we asked our consumer editor tom vacar to find out which profections are the hardest hit from this economic slump. what did you find out today. >> reporter: we're going to show you a will the of things, new jobs 50,000 here at lowe's. 60,000 at rival home depot. >> into the next quarter. >> reporter: debra monroe's temporary agency has been in

the nasdaq was off just more than 14 points closing at 2,784. newly released documents show that pg & e replaced 5 miles of aging pipes in the area around san bruno17 years ago but stopped just short of the segment that ruptured and exploded last september. the seismic upgrade work ended 300 yards from the epicenter of deadly explosion and fire. pg & e is still trying to figure out why crews didn't replace all of the pipes in the area. so far, they've determined it was a faulty welt that set off that explosion. federal prosecutors have added multiple murder and attempted murder charges against the 22-year-old loughner. witnesses say that loughner opened fire on a dozen people gathered at a public meeting with the congresswoman. she was injured, one of her

a traffic jam and a money mess on the san mateo bridge this morning. a brinks truck overturned. we watched this play out this morning as traffic backed up during the morning commute. another brink's vehicle was dispatched to the scene to pick up that money while the tow truck pulled in and overturned the truck up right.

the area was cleared right after 9:00. and take a look at what happened this morning. this is what happened there it was tractor trailer that had a near miss at the tulley road interchange. robert handa has been reporting on the problems of this highway interchange and is here now to explain how a construction problem designed to solve problems instead caused one, robert. >> that's right frank, when we first reported back in november the construction work was about to begin at this interstate. officials blame officials for all the damage that occurred. no one had anticipated this situation. the huge over sized big rig in san jose had to stop suddenly and then sit there for several hours this morning. it had no choice, the big rig load was 16 feet tall, the tulley road overcross, 15 feet high. >> this could have been very tragic. because we have a full foot

here that would have hit. >> reporter: the big rig was wider than a regular road lane. so if the driver would have not stopped in time, the vehicle would have wiped out the cement guard reals. here's what happened from ground level. the driver was heading north when he took the turn off that was supposed to avoid the overpass. instead the tulley road construction now forcing drivers under that overpass. caltrans is up to speed. >> they now know, for the future. that this is a problem. so they know the height restrictions and the width

restrictions. >> the good news is thank god it's getting done. the bad news is it's going to take a while. >> reporter: there were no citations issued because the transport permit was valid and the driver did the right thing by stopping. live in san jose, robert handa, ktvu news. just a few hours ago, florida turned down federal matching funding for high speed rail and some of that money could come to california. republican governor rick scott had called the link from miami to orlando a bad investment. several florida legislators and mayors took the battle to florida supreme court which ruled today. >> as you know the supreme court made the right decision. they know that i had the power to make those decisions. >> the transportation department is expected to reallocate the $2.4 billion in high speed rail funding. a significant portion of which could fund our state, san diego to san francisco high speed rail project. if you are in oakland, you might smell natural gas for the

you this with the batch of cloud cover. not over the bay area but over a good portion of the state. we'll take a look at the current numbers. right now we're up to the upper 50s and 60s. here is the the forecast in the short term. at 6:00 we will still call it mild. temperatures in the low to mid- 50s. 50 to 55. by 8:00, 50 to 60 still scattered high clouds out there. by 10:00 partly cloudy skies will continue to cool off. nothing too extreme by 10:00 back down to the mid-40s. you can see most of the region in the 40s. coolest locations in the upper 40s for santa rosa and napa, livermore at 40 degrees and you can count on the clouds with at least partly cloudy skies if not to mostly cloudy observations as we head into the saturday. you can see what's happening over the past 12 hours this cold front mainly approaching the north western tips of the state. not a lot to show you right now

a napa state hospital patient accuse of the attempted rape of a hospital nurse wednesday made his first court appearance today. prosecutors say 30-year-old jesus hernandez tovar attacked a female nurse wednesday night beating her and tearing off her clothes. it is the third alleged attack by a patient in three months at napa state hospital. tovar is being held on a $.25 million bail. he is due back in court on march 9. team owners and players

higher. in fact, nationwide they are up 5-cents a gallon in just the past 24 hours and 19-cents since last friday. here in the bay area, prices are starting to top $4 a gallon for regular. they've been over $4 a gallon already for mid-grade and premium for some time now. aaa says the average price for a gallon of regular is up three cents yesterday and it's up 4- cents in both san jose and oakland. almost 15% of people in san francisco, oakland say they have not had enough money for food for their family. that figure comes from the food research and action center. am some point they suffered from what's called food hardship which basically means they didn't have enough money to buy food. game war in the mission, one man is dead, five injured and many residents say they

neighborhood is affected. >> reporter: we're on 24th and harrison street in the mission. this is where the most recent shooting occurred on wednesday. in what police say is an escalating war between two latino gangs. many say they feel caught in the middle. through their office window, employees of this mission street insurance company can see the sidewalk memorial to trancoso shot to death early saturday morning. the shrine has brought out crowds. >> when they were out here, they used to shoot the place up. and we would be here. >> reporter: authorities blame it on a long simmering rivalry between the nortenos and the surenos. the memorial was desecrated

francisco, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. and we have more on developing news across the bay. also related to a gang injunction. right now i want to show you live pictures from outside city hall in downtown oakland. you see a crowd of 100 or 200 or so people. what they are upset about is a proposed gang injunction that would be implemented in oakland that would keep 40 or so alleged gang members from associating in a two mile area of the city. protesters here say it will not cut back on crime and in their eyes it's racist. police say someone broke into more than 40 vehicles early thursday morning. one car left overnight was still being cleaned up. police say your car may be less of a target if you keep everything available out of sight. police say that even means

spare change. the fbi is looking for a man they say has been taking over the bang accounts of unsuspecting customers by impersonating them and then stealing their money. the fbi released photos of this man in hopes that someone will know who he is and give them a call. he says he's carried out his crimes in the bay area as well as sacramento and reno. the man started stealing money from accounts in 2009. they say he might be driving a white or grey sports utility vehicle. >> they've been working around the clock and this morning they finished ahead of schedule. i want to show you pictures of the new signature tower of the bay bridge. this morning, crews hoisted up the fourth and final leg of the tower and bolted it into place. and as ktvu claudine wong reports, now there is just one more thing to put on top of the shower. >> this is new video given to us today by cal trance of this latest milestone in this historic project -- caltrans of

they warmed up to # 0 degrees by afternoon. we do have this, high clouds lows will be in the 40s for this weekend rainfall. especially for late saturday. we're going to hold on to showers on sunday. the extended forecast still partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. so far on the satellite you can see the clouds approaching the north coast and just a limited rainfall up here. this will be changing as we head into tomorrow. but for your saturday, partly to mostly cloudy skies. rainfall developing in general from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. although we could have a few light showers develop in the north bay tomorrow afternoon. this front swings through saturday night. that will be at least the late saturday night into early sunday morning. as a result rainfall totals will be on the increase. for sunday, we're going to have to hold on to on and off showers especially for sunday morning. then by monday, a cooler air moves in and temperatures could actually drop down into the 50s. so there's still a possibility of a few showers. here we go with the rainfall shower. the bulk of the activity already moving out of town to

the santa clara valley transportation has approved a plan to help keep caltrain on track. the board approved five strategies aimed at making up an anticipated $30 million shortfall. part of the plan calls for the use of funds. and using money earmarked for the dunbarton rail. and nafta could soon go into effect ending a long running conflict about the safety of mexican trucks. big riggs are allowed on 880 not on some other freeways. president oe what and mexican president felipe caledron yesterday reached a deal to let
